For me, the main pitfall is overpressurizing, which interferes with good vocal-fold closure.
As for what you discuss here, I think (as you say) that it's fine as long as that's the color you want, but it's good to remember that we have other options.

Oh so interesting - I’m super new to singing and my voice teacher is currently working on where I put my tongue bc it tends to wander around or be pulled back!

My long-form video that comes out tomorrow will be on the tongue!! I also have a playlist on Tongue Tension.

My challenges are...polyps! They make ALL notes difficult :-(
Got my ENT appointment yesterday, they stuck the endoscope down me and it was immediately obvious what was wrong. They want to do surgery to laser them away. It's all a bit scary and I'm not sure thats the route I want to go down, at least not so hastily.

I am not a medical professional, but I have known singers who had polyp surgery amd resumed singing beautifully afterward. They felt that they got their voices back. Of course, working with a speech pathologist or voice teacher is important post-surgery to correct any bad habits that may have contributed to the problem. Best wishes to you!

I'm not a doctor, but had small polyps confirmed by an ENT. I didn't sing or whisper for about a month to 6 weeks between my appointments and when I went back he said they were gone. If yours aren't really big it may at least help. Good luck to you.

@@olderendirt Thanks for sharing. They are not that big. And the position of them is not directly threatening to my vocal folds, however they are preventing full closure. My voice has gone raspy and distorted and I run out of air very quickly.
I am 99% certain that voice overuse is not the cause. I have never been an overuser.
I have had sinus issues and digestive issues for some years now that I think may be linked to some allergies/sensitivites so I'm going to be undergoing testing for that. I also have LPR symptoms and have a bad habit of eating late which I am trying to stop.
I wasn't even asked any questions about my general health, diet or lifestyle at the hospital, they just saw the polyps and said we can remove them but it feels hasty to me and I don't want to get the surgery and find myself in the same position again a few years down the line because the underlying causes were not addressed.

@@soundseeker63 I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. We sound like we've had similar scenarios. I've had occasional acid reflux wake me up at night it was so bad and it's mostly from eating certain foods too late at night. I hope you've found something that works for you by now. I'm still working on it. I was recently diagnosed with essential tremors so that's had an effect on my voice at times, too, but I'm trying to keep my voice as healthy as possible.

This isn't related to this specific video, but do you mind to share what program you use for putting your words and icons over your videos? They look so good all the time!
