- On May 9, 2019, The city of Ogden, the Union Pacific Railroad, people from every corner of the globe came together at Ogden Union Station to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad and the driving of the golden spike.
Re-enacting this historic event, Union Pacific's 4-8-4 FEF-3 Northern 844 and fresh out of restoration 4-8-8-4 Big Boy 4014 are positioned by UP railroad personnel to re-create the famous scene of the final driving of the golden spike in 1869.
My hats off to the UP Heritage Team on a fantastic job at bringing the king of steam back to life! For those that believe steam is dead, here is proof that you are wrong!
It’s my birthday too! I will forever be able to joke that they restored the Big Boy for my 16th birthday.
🚂Happy 150th Anniversary Golden Spike🌟
Kudos to the UP for doing such an awesome job overhauling the locomotive, in addition to taking part in a huge moment in history!
Happy 150th anniversary golden spike.
To UP and to Ed and his crew a job well done
HUGE public relations coup by the great UP. Kudos & Congrats.
Last time there was this much fanfare for a steam locomotive, it was for a norfolk and western 4-8-4 XD
150 years of American Railroading
Pretty amazing video. LJL
I Was There! I Saw That!
Shame. They should've used 4449 for the scene. Idk.
