    Sometimes, the world just needs something like the Big Boy, to bring people together! There was a feeling of reverence among the people seeing this historic moment. There were times when I felt the tears come... So glad that I could be a part of the many, who were able to experience this!

      @William NoTell Very soon, the Big Boy will be making the beginnings of a summer long tour. The only information that we have which is certain.. The Big Boy will be taking passengers from Omaha NE to Boone NE. Just a 60 mile run, and a bus ride back. This is on July, 15th. There will be more to be announced. I would bet that Chicago could be on the schedule! Nothing set in stone.

    We were at Evanston when the train arrived. After backing onto the side track , Ed Dickins was signing autographs like he was a “ rock star” lol. Ed is a good guy.

      Ed is a Rock Star... in so many ways, but even better! If the young folks look at him and say: There is a man with a great education! He has soooo much knowledge about engineering! I want to do what he does! " That spark could be the start of something even bigger!

    Good to see the big boy doing some work. They took it easy on it during the first run. You can tell my the exhaust looks like they're letting it do more work now. Can't wait till it's fully broken in and everyone gets some high speed runs filmed.

    Incredible videos posted on UA-cam of this momentous and historical event captured so magnificently by so many railfans. I have binge watched everything concerning the Big Boy 4014 and the 844 restorations over the past five years and it is amazing to see these two magnificent locomotives double heading together on this spectacular trip. My HO scale Big Boy on my layout will mean so much more now. I guess all future trips with the Big Boy 4014 will be just the one locomotive which makes this event even more spectacular. Well done once again on your screwing around with the Big Boy to both of you. You make a great team for all of us to enjoy every week. Cheers from the Train Lord in South Australia, a long way from this awesome event.

    Slept overnight at Castle Rock Road to watch 4014 and 844 charging up the grade. Was well worth the rough night sleep (6 foot person in a 5 foot space) to see and hear them working. It was also great getting to meet you in Odgen at the Heritage Festival. Keep up the awesome screwing around!

    By the time that this video was taken, I was on my way back home to Memphis, leaving Glenwood Springs where I left the rental car and spend the night at Hotel Denver and took the California Zephyr the next day to Chicago and took the City of New Orleans back to Memphis, TN. I've never thought that the days would come to see a Big Boy in action. I've chased it from Evanston to Morgan with my railfan buddies. What a magnificent sight! It was like a dream come true! I first saw Big Boy in St Louis's Museum of Transportation after hearing talks of restoring 4014. I never thought that I would see this moment. Glad I met both of you in Promontory and thanks for sharing this video!

      Hi! What a week it was. We are only now recovering. The Big Boy is soon heading your way too. They are still working out the route and schedule but it will be close to you. Somewhere around mid August. Houston but perhaps New Orleans. The Big Boy in the Big Easy. All that jazz. Long shot but Houston for sure.

    I got out of Ogden ahead of the train, pulled off at Green Mountain and realized I had no way out but to go back to the eastern edge of Ogden and loop back. After that, I drove through the traffic to get ahead of the train (while it was still stopped in Morgan) and watched it arrive in Echo, then moved on to Evanston to wait for the arrival. Was a madhouse when I got there! Drove from Logansport, Indiana to Ogden for the events of that week, chased back to Evanston, then drove on to the rest of my trip.

    Thank you for sharing an amazing video of the big boy and challenger consist . I appreciate that even though you add background music it did not over power the sound of the locomotives which I my humble opinion is what I wanted to hear. So thanks again.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  5 років тому

      So often there is really nothing to hear. The drone footage is silent as there is no way to record anything more that the buzz of the props. Do I try to create something interesting. A bit of other locomotive sound, background sounds and music. Even when gliding down grade there is often nothing on the track except people talking and cars driving by. So again I try to play what’s interesting and when possible the sound of the actual train.

We can maybe see the restoration and running of remaining locomotives like NS or Burlington Santa Fe or perhaps Conrail to name a few.

    I know this is corny but I am "Gob-Smacked" at that drone footage. It is fantastic that you allowed another's work in your body of, 'Brilliant' work. Good for you. Seriously, in this divine use another's footage I find it refreshing for an outstanding member of the You Tube community to work with others to bring an incredible presentation. Thank you for another, outstanding installment of Toy Man Television. (Sorry, had to 'Gush'.) Greg and Jeanne.

      Greg Uzar hi you two!! Did you see how close the drone came to the one wire!? Missed by less than a foot! But what footage! We spent a day figuring out the best places for us and the drone. We wanted Tagert tunnels but no way to get that and echo so we went with Echo. But the one subscriber sent us the Tatart shot knowing we wanted it. Nice! We are now heading to Rat Fink. Talk about a shift! But American iron is American iron, be it a hot rod, Harley or Big Boy!!!

      So far only Omaha on July 15 confirmed. But dozens more soon. Council Bluffs will be announced soon. Tomorrow? Still wondering about Portland. No decision on the trip yet. But 4014 and 4449 nose to nose? Wow. What a finish for the summer

    Short train for a double-header. I take it that they are still breaking in Big Boy, so 844 is doing most of the work. See that your drone almost caught the wire! Can you do a video on how the passenger coaches and sleeper cars, back in the days of steam, were powered?

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  5 років тому

      Hi. Yes way over powered! But they needed both locomotives for the nose to nose event in Ogden. Big boy is being broken in but no need to go easy. Just check bearings and lube twice as often as usual

    Nicely done! I kept thinking I was going to hear that "beef, what's for dinner" theme song but, I didn't. I keep forgetting that Wyoming is east of Utah which is really goofy seeing that I minored in Geography in college. I also traveled through both states though not extensively but, enough to know that Wyoming is east of Utah. I'd really be curious to know why behind 4014 and the other steam engine they had a diesel lashed in the consist. Was it for extra power? or was it exclusively for electricity for the office cars? I wonder how that technology was integrated into the consist especially since the Big Boy was at the lead in the consist?

    • @mfee2079

      Dynamic Braking is the #1 reason the diesel was in the consist

    • @karynfelix-the-Cat
      @karynfelix-the-Cat 5 років тому

      IMHO... I think having the diesel present, was for the same reasons that one might carry a set of booster cables, tire chains, an extra quart of oil, jug of antifreeze, and spare tire, in the trunk of their car........ especially traveling through Wyoming! One can't help but notice the distance between populated areas in Wyoming.. as well as unpredictable weather. It's not that help can't be reached... But It would take hours to get there! I'm sure that the diesel was also present, should any problems arise with either the 4014 or 844.... Sort of like when one completely restores a '57 Chevy, and takes it out for a drive for the first time. Have a cell phone handy, or someone tagging along in a vehicle....... Probably nothing will happen... But just in case!

    • @Mike-tg7dj
      @Mike-tg7dj 5 років тому

      @@mfee2079 Makes sense. When you think about it that diesel brings something that I don't think steamer have like you said, Dynamic Braking".4014 had its shakedown run and for all intent and purpose is a brand new 4-8-8-4 Big Boy Steam locomotive with I sure 2019 safety specs for running that type of locomotive. There are some things that just don't carry over like dynamic braking and of course, it burners use oil instead of the original fuel bituminous coal. Thanks for the information and I bet the dynamic brakes worked overtime on those in and out of Utah.
