Great build and video. In the early2000s I was swapping heads on my factory 89 GT and forgot to get clay to check piston to valve but had a pack of chewing gum in my box. It worked out. 🎉
Great video inspired me to build one of these again. Starting on it next week, got a nice running high mile 351w roller block in an old E350 out back, just need to find a set of 302/5.0 pistons 👍
Already has 1.6 rockers unless you mean roller rockers and I agree with the first reply try a bigger cam and you’ll easily make 375-400hp with good compression
First thank you for doing this video. It answers a lot of questions. the problem with the piston not clearing did you clearance the piston or the block. thanks for the reply....
Great video thanks. I’m about to freshen up one of my 351w motors. I’ll stroke it like his for sure. Mine is a 1987 in an f250. Not a roller but I’ll convert it. It is the last motor ford sold with a carb (460 also same year).
In reality you would be better off getting a roller motor since conversion lifters are at least $700. People do drill the lifter valley for the factory spider but remember you will need a reduced base circle cam to run stock roller lifters. Otherwise there is the risk if loss of oil pressure and the lifters hanging in the bores. There is way less hassle to just find a roller block and be able to use stock lifters that are much more reliable and not have to order a special cam either.
@ yes. I had learned this researching too. I do hang out at junkyards and if I see a roller 351 I’ll buy it. I am planning to just drill for the spiders and get the lifters they recommend. Soon I’ll get to this truck when the one I’m on now is done.
Great video!! I've got a 1997 Thunderbird with the 4.6 that i want to put a 351 based motor but i cant find information about the swap. I need to know if i need to change the k member or just mounts or of anyone makes this stuff. If you have any information please let me know. Keep these videos coming. Thanks!
Anyone thinking about converting a flat tappet block to roller needs to know they HAVE TO run a reduced base circle cam. Otherwise you run the risk of low oil pressure and lifters hanging in the bore. Imho it’s easier to pick up a roller block even if you already have a flat tappet block. Way less hassle as you can use any roller cam and good factory roller lifters instead of $$$ link bars.
I have a 1993 bronco with a 351 and that engine was abused bad by previous owners and want to rebuild it, I have done one engine before but it took me a long time to actually rebuild it since I was buying 1 parts at a time unfortunately this time around the bronco is my only vehicle and want to get as much power as possible on a budget, any help would be appreciated ( what type of cam, pistons, rods, heads, valves) can any be grabbed from a junkyard?
@ i understand .. that tells me the stroker kit is worth around 75ish hp the (ISH) part being the variable … now im curious is to what could a 387 bring to the table n/a power wise if a person had all the right parts . Its just something fun to think about !!!
Neo i have 69 block . Mint. Fresh hone with std bore pistons deep flycut h366ps fresh build with gt40 heads . I got a really good deal on it. Would it be a good idea to put a good cam in it and some really good heads in it or would you stroke it out to a 408 ? I wanna get 500 hp and possibly put boost to it or super charger . Any advice . Its going in my 88 notch
My roller motor drips at the rear of the heads ,its in my 96 f250 HD bone stock at 145k i did the first tune up and plactic Rad it runs12 psi cap with a large expansion tank factory .I hate to pull the heads on this truck .
Just started my 408 swap on my s197. I've learned a ton from your videos and cant wait!!!
I gotta say i enjoyed a 30 minute neo video!
Appreciate that
Great viewing.
You have excellent knowledge and experience. Videos like this are useful to keep the Windsors running.

hell ya it would!

I love how much was accomplished with stock parts, really unusual opportunity with this build :) Excellent power!
Ya man it’s good for sure. Thx for watching
Thanks for the video Dano!
Great content as always and I can’t wait to put some these tips to use!!!!
I have 6 foxbodys and I'm always looking at combos and this is cool
Awesome build. Solid numbers for a NA motor for sure!
Great video. It touches on many different points that may help someone who doesn't know a lot and help them with their build. 👍🏼
I appreciate you checking it out!
Thanks for the compilation. Nice work! Good you're keeping busy while buried in snow!
Sounded awesome! Great build, good job.
Sweet build, guy!
This is awesome and very much appreciated, really looking forward to the improved version coming to the channel.
hell ya
Thanks for the 387 build. Have you tried using explorer pistons?
I didn’t but it’ll work
If you used a stock 351 with gt40 iron heads,E303 cam, 1.6 rockers would it make good power?
it would be ok for sure.
Find a better cam and I would at least port the heads or find the cheapest aluminum heads at least a 170 cc
Already has 1.6 rockers unless you mean roller rockers and I agree with the first reply try a bigger cam and you’ll easily make 375-400hp with good compression
Ok cool, I was just trying to use what I had laying around….any cam recommendations???
@LouisBigDaddy call bullet camshafts or comp cams they will help u spec one
Nice job buddy.
Great video
Thanks man!

Hey brother! Would love to see a build with budget 302 from a 1980's or 1990's f150 with the factory 5 speed manual.
awesome foxbody love
HELL YA

Can you use the stock 351w heads on the set up? If not whic heads you recommend?
Nice video. I think I’d like this in my 96 Bronco. When does the tq start compared to stock? What intake is that?
Should be checking P/V on both sides incase one head happens to be cut more than the other
I been debating to build this engine or godzilla engine for my foxbody
Good information good video! 400HP wheel would be what at the crankshaft
We had some adjustments I needed to make. Plus a better cam would net easy 500 crank
Would using 85-86 flat tops work? Be an upgrade? Be worse? And why just out of my curiosity. You don’t see much on those pistons

and small base circle retro-fit cams dont work near as well limit your lift too
great video hardly seemed like 30 minutes !
Good shit brother 👍

You either live in Tennessee or there a pull apart close by
How much more hp and tq do you figure just the 387 stroker kit will produce over stock ?
stock 351? With the same top end might make 325 or less
@ whats the 387 make again ???
@@glennramsey917 just under 400. There’s a lot of variables.
@ i understand .. that tells me the stroker kit is worth around 75ish hp the (ISH) part being the variable … now im curious is to what could a 387 bring to the table n/a power wise if a person had all the right parts . Its just something fun to think about !!!

To achieve 500 crank you’ll need to step up those heads for sure. 408 with a decent set of heads should do it.
Love it

Might be what we were talking about here in thsi video. The casting
Does anyone one know if this motor is still running good 👍???
we took it apart. Had a bad oil leak on the pan took out a bearing.
@Neomustangs cool 😎
351 Block, 3.850 crank and 302 pistons. I thought using those parts made 393
Ya 30’over aftermarket ones. Not STD 4” one’s
@@Neomustangs Oh, ok. Thanks
weed plants?😆😆😆
500hp ?
