Tama Dyna-Sync Direct Drive Drum Pedal - James Payne ('Gravity II' instrumental track)

- Hey guys, here's another version of my instrumental track 'Gravity' performed with the new Tama direct drive pedals Dyna-Sync. These pedals are a revolution not only because of the direct drive, but also because a few new settings that Tama introduced to set up the pedal in a more efficient way, and this has changed the game for me! As a 'chain pedal' player I have never really liked the direct drive pedals feeling, but this time I can chose the balance of the pedal with these new settings and that allows me to find exactly the feeling that I want on a pedal! I really suggest every drummer to go and check these pedals.

One more time leaving humanity behind. Amazing
That's just incredible dude!! You are a crazy drummer!
That little baby snare rig is about the coolest thing I’ve ever seen
ok i'm buying it
Amazing. Beautifully extreme composition. Cannot believe you're not in one of the bigger extreme metal bands - I know you have been, but would still love to see you in a live setting. Thanks, man. :)
Well now he is xD
You speed metal guys are at another level. Most people just don't understand. Fucking wow!
A huge smile on my face and intense chills up my spine.. It just doesn't get any better than this!
That is fookin nuts dude
I watched your video about adjusting the Dyna Syncs and it put them on the short list of pedals to buy. After I watched THIS video, I ordered two of them. Cheers man, I love your philosophy on efficiency and technique and of course your amazing playing.
Insane as always. Really inventive and interesting ideas. Raging and creative drum parts. You rule !!
Foot. Snare. Double snare blast beat. Holy shit
Damn I love that bass-drum sound!
i know, it sounds like thunder when he goes really fast.
Que sweevel monstruoso! Parabéns pelo domínio na batera!
Great creativity and love the sound of foot snare + hand snare!!
Awesome James!
Awesome
Wow... Great work...
Amazing playing, when I rebuild my kit I'll be giving these a try. :)
I always wanted to see someone do a pattern like that on a foot snare. :)
wow, amazing! 6 stroke bass drum pattern😳thats awesome 🔥
Great playing!
No Payne No Gain!! Rapido y prolijo. Buen swivel😲💥💪👏👌buen trabajo. Buen maestro!😎👍
Nice 🥁🥁🥁🥁
Really thinking of making the switch to these. 12 years of iron cobra, and brief time with trick, these seem exactly what I'm looking for.
How can u dislike this?
That was so f*cking sick!!!
Incredible drumming as usual! And every time I saw you play always made me surprised! But how to get your music(Eternal Rain, The Last Beginning and this)?
Jame M4-16 good video
Wow roland rk10 s and the new tama direct drive what a combination
Outstanding performance.
Question: I just started using my Tama Dyna-Sync Double Kick pedals. Does anyone have a preference point or a sweet spot setting that helps balance tension and fluidity? And should the springs be loose or tense? I'm more of a fusion player than a metal player, but being able to balance the speed and endurance is something I'm still practicing. Anything helps. Thx.
it really depends on yourself. I like highest spring tension, vdl at middle and I have my foot pretty low on the pedals. this is basically the opposite of james.
James think you will switch completely to these or go back to the tried and true iron cobras?
Did you play the Speed Cobra before? If so can you share your experience going from the Speed Cobra to the Dyna-Sync? If not do you know any stories? I'm trying to decide which to buy. Tried Axis 16-17 years ago and played them for 2 years until I found out that they were not for me and switched back to my Iron Cobras. And now its time to upgrade my pedals and nothing but Tama touches my feet.
I’ve had speed cobras for like 9 years, just went to the dyna syncs after never playing direct drives before, can hardly go passed 160bpm without falling apart and I’m normally easily able to go above 200bpm
Does it just take a while
To get used to them?
There is a different approach to direct drive pedals. Instead of heel up, try heel down. You'll feel that burn in your shins because those pedals require a different set of muscles to run them.
James, can share your pedal settings ?
Would you still recommend the dyna sync pedals?
What's the tradeoff with these? What do the chains do better... what do these do better?
Zero lag due to the connection of solid linkage a chain over time can stretch links can break and wear out with this its just 2 points of contact between the pedal boards and the cam rather than a large amount of chain links .Also an engineering and ergonomics thing but makes total sense try it out many brands offer them
@@nmac3718 I disagree with the chain stretching idea. The chain is a collection of metal components and metal (in these low-pressure circumstances) does not stretch. The only benefit I've felt from direct drives is the feedback feel - vibrations of a beater strike more efficiently traveling through the pedal into my foot, giving me feedback of the strike, which can be helpful considering the lower power and volume traditionally found with direct drive pedals. So if you can't hear the feet, well, at least you can feel the feet. Anyway, I know there is that 'chain flop' you get when you lift your feet too fast and the board flies up and the upward inertia of the board continues upward while the beater recovery slows to a stop. With direct drive, that board intertia energy would be shared with the beater backswing (maybe enhancing it). A cobra coil alone could bring the whole beater back. If trick added a compression spring under their boards I'd consider getting a pair again, even if the current low-mass designs help. Until then, I'm faithful to my Iron Cobras
What beaters are those?
I know that this vid is old, but is this pedal a long board?
Oh yeah. You can put an Iron Cobra footboard on top and you’ll still have the entire plate of the direct drives visible.
That swivel technique is gotta hurt the knees.....
Holy freaking broccoli

Overpriced hype!.. Ive played iron cobras for years and they are great pedals but they are too late and trying to catch up with direct drives pedals already out there in the market... I use trick now and I will never ever go back because tricks have been the best direct drive pedals I've used!
Priced at US$699.99. I guess I will stick to my speed cobras
Belva
I don't have enough natural life to practice like that. It's too late for me now. I will reincarnate and start all over again.
Nuh uh, go get behind your kit or your practice pad and play lol you can reach this as long as you put in the effort and practice smart
Yeah, but can you get down in some Isley Brothers?
Do you ask to who play the Isley Brothers if they can play Death Metal? Or is it a double standard question? Ahah. Just joking, I just play what I like and try to do my best at doing that. Thanks for passing by my video
@@JamesPayneDrums I would, yes! Nah man, just said for irony’s sake. Honestly that comment was paraphrased from Les Claypool about when he tried out for Metallica. Really though, that was super tight!
I dont normally listen to this kinda music and honestly I dont like it, this guy tho is bionic, its impossible to see his feet sometimes! 😂
Tama STILL have asymmetrical beaters on the double version, and the worst quality driveshafts, so lazy, such a pity.
your drum set chops are sick bro. keep growing and being innovative. I'll keep watching!!!
