i have always grown carrots in containers but never tried parsnips! parsnips are something that ive really tried to get used to over the years and the last 2 times ive tried them they were yummy!
That's really helpful, thank you. I already have some carrots under way in a container, I must get some parsnips going too. On the topic of containers - I know a farmer and got 2 very large black containers from him, they're calf feed containers and once they're empty they need to get rid of them. I've got 5 seed potatoes on the go in each one, just needed to drill drainage holes.
Great tip about the cling film. Have grown carrots in buckets for several years with great success, not having had decent crops in the raised beds. Not had much luck with parsnips so will try this way. Best wishes J
I am a newbie to veg gardening, and I have recently tried growing carrots in a biggish plant pot. Only to have them turn out tiny. What did I do wrong? I think maybe the pot wasn't deep enough, but then it could also be that I put too many seeds in.
OMG I think i am addicted to your channel ...so much more helpful than some of the other Uk Gardening channels I have come across and watched. I am a complete black thumb and am actually growing some veg. I really like your simplicity as well. Thank you. Would you plant carrots seeds now or am I too late?
Much appreciated Thank you Stephanie Maincrop Carrots are usually sown outside by the end of may but if sowing in pots you can extend the sowing time as you can offer shelter
Hi Ivan. I was going to have a go at growing carrots this year in a bucket with holes and keeping in greenhouse over winter. I looked back to find this video of yours from a year ago but i was wondering if I have left it too late ? If still time what variety would you recommend. I have Early Nantes, Igloo and little Finger seed. Would any of those be suitable do you think? Thanks ivan.
Hi Trevor September is the last month for sowing Carrots little finger are a good choice as they develop quicker but you can also try others and carrots can take a frost and stand all Winter Thank you
Great video for beginner here who is about to sow carrots in a container. 😅 can I ask what sort of depth should be aim for with containers for carrots? I have a few different sized ones but don't want to 'waste' a bigger one if they will grow fine in a smaller one. I also have a 40cm length window trough, which is about 30cm deep. Would that work? Thank you in advance ❤
Hi Mark Parsnips need a long growing season and only need watering once every 2 weeks unless really hot if planted in Spring they will be ready in Autumn Carrots take around 4 months to mature water once every 2-3 days Thank you
Hi I'm just a beginner I'm turning my back garden into risen growing beds and small green house, as I'm wanting to grow vegetables and herbs, can you advise me as a beginner what soils I need and vertilizer would be good for things like, carrots, leeks, beetroot, lettuce, rocket, rosemary, Thyme, basil, tomatoes, and Bell peppers. As I don't want to be buying things i don't need if im able to use tge same soils for majority of my veg or herbs, i understand that it be different ratio's for different veg ect, Thank you.
