Many thanks really helpful
Thanks, very useful clear concise info.
No problem 🙂
Excellent. What variety are you using for containers.
Very helpful, thanks! Will let you know how we get on. 👩🏻🌾
How did you get on?
very helpful
Cheers 🙂
This looks great. I have sharp sand, can I use that? Also, can you put holes in the containers for drainage?
Yes to both. Definitely put in drainage holes
Great video, is there a variety of carrot you would recommend for containers. We are wanting to grow some with our local school in containers but I believe I need to find some to be sown in March as need to be harvested no later then w/c 15th July. Any tips appreciated
Hi Jenny, not off the top of my head. Google is probably your best best, if you search for early carrot varieties then it should tell you how long they take to mature and you can work out dates etc
Great video. How deep are your pots, you got a link to them? Thanks in advance
Think I bought a load at a car boot sale. They're about 30-40cm tall
what time of your do you start your carrots outdoors? What day temps / night temps are best for starting them? First year growing mine, not sure when to start them - I'm in the UK too
Once temps warm up really or they won't germinate for a long time. Once they're at least 10+ constantly I'd say would be minimum. 15 degree constant saw mine germinate in about 10 days
First year doing carrots 🥕 omg I got some good big carrots. I was going to add pictures but no option for that. Thank u soooo much. ❤ how do I stop weeds gathering in my containers tho?
Your compost might have had seeds in if its homemade? Other than that, you will either have to hand pick them or put a layer of shop bought compost over the top of your soil mix and that should keep any seeds from getting light. You'll always get some weeds though especially when carrots are young. When they're big they'll block out the light
@TheGreyGardener1990 It was all bought stuff I used. I'm so proud of myself, I'm a newbie, thanks to you, my family are all buzzing and the soup pots are all on for storm Agnes. Sounds silly but I was scared to pull weeds out incase the carrots liked them. Next year I'll not be scared to. Thank you so much. I'm away to look through your channel for leeks in containers. My lettuce was a wash out as slugs were rife this year, the copper mesh and tape never stopped them going up wall and springing over. Any tips on stopping the slugs munchin? Thanks again.
@@lisahmackie695 slugs and snails love marigolds. If you Google companion planting. They attract the pests and in theory, they should stay away from the lettuce. Its not easy though
Hi Adam, I sowed carrots using your method just over a month ago. Nothing has come up yet except one or two very tiny leaves, should I start again?
They can take a while especially as weather is still quite cold. Over a month is quite a while though. I'd be tempted to make another sowing and keep the others in case
@@TheGreyGardener1990 Thank you. I might just resow as I have a lot of seeds.
Will this work for parsnips aswell?
Similar soil type for parsnips so yeah should be ok. They will require something deeper though
Do you reuse your compost for another crop?
Probably just throw it in the compost bin
This maybe a dumb question but can't I make all my soil in this manner?
Yeah I suppose so.
What sand is that mate?
I think it was normal builders sand
@@TheGreyGardener1990 thanks
