One issue the Air Force had with some of their sled tests is bird impacts. Since many of the sleds break the sound barrier, the birds don’t hear it coming. And a half-kilogram (1 pound) bird will easily punch through a 7.6cm (3 inch) steel plate. To solve this, they send a small sled along an adjacent track 10 seconds before the main sled, or they use propane cannons to scare the birds off.

Yup...the W23, reportedly 50 of them produced. It was essentially an updated version of the same 11" warhead that was tested in by Atomic Annie, called the W19, but adapted for the 16" gun not with a sabot, but by inserting it into the body of a 16" shell. ✌

Probably the most armored small sea-to-land vehicle in the US military. Very convenient/versatile way to get our boys to land; and a small moving target for enemy land artillery.
The larger vehicle seen in the beach assault was an LCAC .

Heh, if you think the M65 was a little nuts.... we had a man-portable recoilless rifle version in testing as well. Needless to say, once it was shown to work cooler heads prevailed and it never went further than that, because the available range made it very nearly a suicide weapon... in perfect conditions you were fine, but the margins were *really* slim.
Victor Alert had F-100:s armed with 61kiloton nukes.. While possible to survive the blast, the targets were so deep in hostile territory that they wouldn't have enough fuel to return. At best they might get back to Finland or Sweden.

Those vehicles are LVTP-7s, or, the version in U.S. service is the AAV-7A1. It is the amphibious APC used by the USMC. It's usually armed with a Mk-19/M2HB combination, and, it can carry it's crew of 3, as well as 21 Marines. They're currently in the process of replacing them with a new vehicle, built by BAE.

Those are AAVs or "Amtracks" in the beach assault video wih the R.O.K Marines (Republic of Korea). Those are some hard men I can tell you that. I was in an amphibious assault battalion. It's an 1833 m.o.s if you're an operator. Good stuff, that brings back memories 😈🤘

I'm in the Austin area in a r.v. also. Allergies are bonkers here. It's called cedar fever. The best way I've found to fight it back is to take a shower right after you come in from outdoors

you should check this video out its about the "rod from god" it was a US military idea to shoot tungsten rods from orbit and theoretically they would be about 10 times tronger then a atomic bomb it was very close to complete.
