11:00 The weapon is a belgian FNC 80 from the beginning but is built and heavily modified in Sweden. The reason it's called AK5 is because AK = Automatkarbin which is Automatic carbine in English.

    From wikipedia, translated:
Norrbotten's regimental motto is "They have never folded or for its own part lost", which is said to have been said after the battle at Villmanstrand. The one when Västerbotten's regiment participated with a battalion that remained in the battle, when the other units retreated. The Norrbotten regiment, which was formed from the Västerbotten regiment in 1841, adopted this motto.
According to legend, the regiment remained in place (against impossible odds) because it still had some officers who had been fighting in Charles XII's army. (Carolus Rex, the warrior King).
Also, the text at the start of the video translates to "The lock in the north" which refers to the old, interconnected, fortresses surrounding the city of Boden. The name implies "Here, but not any further". The forts where built to stop a Russian land invasion, were manned during both World Wars and the Cold war, but were decommissioned in 1990's. The forts never saw any action.
So, I guess now the army refers to the Norbotten regiment as our lock in the north instead :)

All automatic rifles used in the Swedish military is usually designated as AK this has nothing to do with the Russian AK. AK in Sweden stands for “Automat-Karbin” this literally means automatic rifle. That why you read about Swedish AK-4, AK-5 and so on. These weapons has absolutely no Russia connection except for the fact that they were all designed to stop Russians. 😊

From the 1960´s we had AK4. That weapon is a modified Swedish version of the German Heckler & Koch G3. Those are upgraded with red point sights and are used by Hemvärnet (Homeguard) , a voluntary branch of the army. I´ve seen several videos where people misstake it for FN FAL. From the end of the 80´s and onwards we use AK5. The weapon is developed from the Belgian FNC 80 automatic carbine from FN Herstal and is chambered for the 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge. The first versions of the weapon had a longer barrel and a different stock than todays version. Sweden and Finland has done a joint deal with the Finnish company SAKO (owned by Beretta) for two different AKs (5.56 and 7.62), sharp shotter rifles and sniper rifles.

How that will work in practice, we don't know; it has not been tried before. The majority of the Swedish military are men, and I fear they will have to carry many of the small numbers of new female conscripts. But in a real war, I think they will just be left behind if they can't keep up with the men. Of course there are women in the military all over the world who can keep up with the men, but they are very far in between. I believe this was tested sometime ago in the US military, and the results showed that women will slow operations down considerably because of the primitive biological differences in how we act, think, and how we are built. Men are likely to be more impulsive, take initiative, and throw themselves into danger, while women are more cautious and hesitant, which is not bad per se as they will do a wonderful job in other roles, and not to forget their biological traits as caretakers; they would do better as, for example, field nurses.

Former officer at this regiment back in the 90-ies. The road destruction at around 12:40 is a key part of the strategy in the area from the Finnish border westwards. You have a lot of marshland, wide rivers running north-south and few roads with capacity to support the logistical train. Key sections of road and railroad had (have?) pre-built pipes for explosives. The munitions are stored nearby, at least back then, and usually it was the responsibility of home guard units that needed extremely short time to suit up, leave their home and prep the roads for destruction.
Once the transport network is destroyed the fighting forces basically fight a delaying action and more or less wait until the fuel, food and water runs out for the Russians. Meanwhile rangers and other assets go deep and work on the soft targets repairing roads, logistical units and such. There simply is no way to circumvent the destroyed/damaged transportation network with wheeled vehicles.
Back then in the town of Boden you had a number of regiments training infantry, tank/mech inf, high level command&communications units, artillery, engineers, army aviation and air defence units in addition to a number of high level staff units. Around 3000 conscripts out of a total of 30 000 for the whole of Sweden were trained here annually.

The rifle is the AK5 its a swedish licensed FN FNC. They are replacing it with a new one (AK6) but I havent looked into that much so im not sure about the details there.
The tracked articulated vehicle is called Viking in the UK i think, there rare a few models usually starting with BV in swedish. i think the new ones are BV410 or bvs10 (the later one is armored, the s is for Skyddad wich means protected.)
I agree about the hype, i think the swedish armed forces do really really good media material. I think they are hitting a really good mix of hype, competence, history and inclusivity.

As mentioned in the Defense Forces' film, the defense must grow in the North. So then Sweden's best special unit/elite will again be in Kiruna and it is the Lapland Ranger Regiment, their operational areas are up in the mountain environment summer and winter. Those who will have to do military service as a Lapland Ranger are only among the best who are taken out. Here it is not the physical that is the toughest, but the psychological. Being out for weeks up in the mountains in both winter and summer, the constantly changing weather, the snow that can be over 2 meters, the cold that can drop to below -45 degrees Celsius. The storms between the mountain peaks and the darkness during the winter and during 1 month when the sun never rises.
The handguns that the Swedish military now uses are called AK5, AK5B and AK%C. During 2025, these will be replaced by new weapons that Sweden and Finland jointly ordered. This year the sniper rifles are being replaced. As well as later many more weapons will be replaced.
    The name of the track wagon you're wondering what it's called, it's Bandvagn 410 ( BvS10 )

Instead, it is a modified FN FNC, given the name Automatkarbin 5, or automatic carbine 5. But I kept my interest for history and military related stuff. Great video, but there is no secret, now is the time to speed up production capacity and make all the arrangements for a day we all want to avoid. The clip we saw was very much about a conventional fight. But from ongoing conflicts we know strategy has to adept. Information is the key factor. Airspace is maybe the most tech-heavy part of the warzone. Massive air defence is of great importance. And we do not have large quantities of anything. This goes for many NATO members of today. West is still not fully updated to the new situation. Politicians need to understand the importance of the situation. We need to be damn superior together. To keep "Fi" on the carpet.

The Swedish military main aussault rifle is the AK-5 (Automatkarbin 5 or Auto Carbine 5 in english) it's cambered in 5,56x45mm and can be outfitted with quite a few attachments like laser, various sights, grips, grenade launcher etc. I'm not military so i'm just using what limited knowledge i've gathered on the internet and what kind of info the Swedish military put up for the public to read.

We got the AK4 and AK5, which doesn’t have anything to do with the Russian weapons. It stands for “automatkarbin” or automatic rifle. It was developed in collaboration between Sweden and Belgium

The AK5 is not at all related to the AK47/74 etc, it is a licensed revision of FNC 80 from Belgium. In Swedish AK just means (A)utomat(k)arbin [compound word] meaning basically Assault Rifle. Compare to Avtomat Kalashnikova (AK47/74 etc), which is of course that it is an automatic rifle and the makers name.

    A small swedish lesson.
    "Försvarsmakten"
    Försvar = defense
makt = power, but in this case more like "authority" when referring to authorities that have the right to execute force.
    Pronounciation:
Ö = kind of like when you say "Ehh?", like an o but with open mouth.
    För-svars-mak-ten.
    :)

Sweden is quite large, for a European country, and the area they are responsible for is somewhat larger than England. The two northernmost counties, Norrbotten and Västerbotten, is about 150000 km^2 but only about half a million people lives here, with a population density of about 3.4/km^2, mostly living at the coast and less than 1 person/km^2 in the least populated areas.
The current weapon used is a Swedish version of the Belgian FN FNC (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ak_5), but it is being replaced with a Finnish weapon in cooperation with Finland (SAKO SSG,SSV, AG, PSG). When I did my military service, we started out with the previous version, the AK4 (H&K G3, 7.62 mm NATO), but got the AK5 (5.56 NATO) a few months later.
Those charges are used to blow up roads and railroads. All major roads in the northern part of Sweden are prepared to be blow up, often over wetlands and rivers where it would me more difficult to rebuild for an advancing enemy. There are those huge pipes already in the body of the roads and prepared charges nearby.
Sweden has since about 1700 with the Caroleans been quite aggressive. Small country, outnumbered most of the time but compensating for this by being aggressive and pushing on and that still lives on today: "Swedish military doctrine of the Carolean era was distinguished by its emphasis on aggressive action and shock tactics, the so-called gå-på (literally "go-on") method. This attitude stood in contrast to other European armies of the period, which were coming to rely increasingly on musketry, delivered in the form of volley fire by line infantry, to win battles."
And for us living up here in the north, the snow and the cold is really not a problem. You know how to dress and behave.

How am I to make "ö" comprehensive to a British man? It's similar to the "ö" of the German language (go figure, right), or the "-bl-eu" of French.

AK is not AK, AK is short in Swedish for Automatkarbin (A utomat K arbin) ( English: Automatic Carbine) and then a number for the model. so its like the German Karabiner 98, Karabiner 44 and so on. its telling you what kind of weapon it is, and then the model number. Swedish military give names and model numbers for everything. so the inventory is hard to understand for the enemy.
its same with tanks, weapons, vehicles, clothing. like the camo clothing M90. or CV90. its like then i did mandatory military service, i had a what you knows as a FAL (Heckler & Koch G3) , for me, its a Swedish AK4
