I came to find out about this Paul, and totally forgot about the pedal because I mesmerized by this dude’s playing. Every time I watch him over the years, I’m absolutely blown away.
"Hey John, you are sort of a guitar player ... what are some of your favorite guitar songs?" "Most of my favorite guitar tunes are "Pedal Demo Tunes" by Pete Thorn."
If Pete is "sort of a guitar player", then what does that make me? ... Jeez, I've been playing since 1985, but since Pete is better than I am, I guess that makes me a 'guitar-ish player"... Yikes, man.
It always puzzles me that people come onto a video like this, that is interesting, perfectly executed, fully featured and just sounds amazing... and they still click "dislike"! I know it's statistical, there's always going to be someone... but WHY?! It's amazing, free content that someone has lovingly, carefully put together. I, for one am grateful for videos from incredible artists like Pete!
Seriously Pete please tell us by when we can expect an album of yours with all the demo video tunes you've made...All of them sound freaking brilliant! You've been on fire lately!
Necro-comment here. Bought this pedal before Pete did this demo, but this demo is nonetheless excellent per usual via Pete Thorn. Still have this pedal all these years later. The riff Pete does at :30 is fire. Peace out.
Watching a Pete Thorn video on youtube is like finding an extra 20 bucks in your pocket - it never fails to bring a smile to your face. :) Why don't all gear demos use a quality looper for a clean tone riff example like you do Pete? The benefit seems so clear to me - with a looper running, you can demonstrate the tonal adjustments on a pedal so much more clearly since you don't have to stop playing in order to fiddle with the knobs...Just seems so much more effective to me. And is such common sense IMO. In fact, I may grab something like a looper myself and bring it with me to the shops when I want to demo some pedals! Pete, how goes the new record??
One of the best musicians out there anywhere, bar none. And probably THE most talented guitar player doing pedal demos, period. I listen to these videos not only to check out the pedal itself.. but I simply enjoy watching and listening to Pete play.. he makes it looks easy. So much finesse and talent.. much respect and admiration! Would love to know whats on your pedalboard these days. Pete, what does your most recent board look like these days?
Whenever I am looking at a new pedal the first thing I do is see if Pete Thorn has reviewed it. And honestly, these pedal demos are also the best guitar lessons on UA-cam.
YOU'RE A FUCKING BOSS! Very articulate gear language and break downs. Insane playing and masterful tone - no matter what gear you're demoing. No ego. Face melting and always have great hair. You're the man!
Dang Pete, how do you keep coming up with those fresh riffs all the time, been watching you for years and am still amazed every time, I barley even notice the pedals anymore... Well I do buy some of them I guess, hahaha. You are definitely one of my all time favorite guitarists!
My daily dose of some of your outstanding guitar playing... The pedals are secondary to your endless flow of musical ideas and licks.. I'm here for the show!
I've heard a lot of Pete's demos, and while they all sound good, this one is very inspiring. The tone is exceptionally raw, and his approach is way more spontaneous at the top, in the best way! Will get the pedal- kudos to Bogner for making something that has character. This and the Supro drive pedal are on the short list!
Pete, I just wanted to say I love your reviews! I want to buy just about every pedal you do on here but what I really need to do is practice more! You're a fantastic player and very inspiring. I think though I am gonna go with this LaGrange or the Friedman BE-OD for my next overdrive/distortion pedal!
Always a good morning where I get to watch another Pete Thorn video over a cuppa, debating spending yet more money on things I wouldn't otherwise want :p
Just got one. It goes from old plexi to modded marshall and is very tweekable. The boost function when used alone is a whole other fantastic sound as well. Amazing amp feel in a box. I'm now looking for another used one as a back up.
One of my favorite demos!, I'm really complicated to choose one overdrive or clean overdrive pedal, but this one showed the most rock sounding that I've heard and as a combination with my black star could be a really nice variation to the plexi side. Thank you so much Pete!!
Dear PETE,,I will never be able to afford any of the pedals you demo and I do not even care. I just watch to see you jam. Its coming up on winter here. I have no heat or hot water etc.. Food and work are scarce. In other words there is very little pleasure in my world..But getting to see and hear you jam provides strength to carry on my good dude. Thank you.
Hey, Pete. I love your videos and pedal reviews. Quick question. I already have an EVH 5150 Overdrive pedal and it's great. I'm also loving the sounds coming out of the Friedman BE-OD and this Bogner La Grange pedal. Would the BE-OD or the La Grange give me anything that I don't already have in the EVH pedal in your opinion? Would there be any value in spending the money on the Friedman or Bogner, or would they be redundant?
The Friedman sounds more like a heavy distorted Marshall. The La Grange sounds more like Plexi, ala VH or ACDC type of sounds. It's more open sounding.
I have a Friedman Be-OD and next month I'll be buying a La Grange. The Friedman will be the High Gain Beast and the La Grange Will cover the low/mid gain Plexi tone
I just tried one of these for the first time at Guitar Center and I was VERY impressed! I ran it into a Marshall DSL combo (clean channel of course). The pedal sounded WAY better than the DSL's gain channel - by leaps and bounds...
@ 5.45 feelin a little ZZ - I thought this would nail that early Rev tone - I'm running it into JTM45 with pair of KT66 . LP PAF and my Esquire. It's OK but not what I hear in my head.. What am I doing wrong Pete ? Maybe I just need a brown 6g3 ? Enjoyed the video very much.
Trying to decide between the La Grange and the Wheebo JCM or JVM pedals for my main crunch rhythm sound thru my Fender tube amps. Tough decision. The only concern I have w the La Grange is that u don't get dedicated bass or mid control knobs. The top end control is definitely covered, but I really like to have a mid control. Hmmmm can't decide. BTW - just when I start to think I'm a good guitar player, I watch a Pete Thorn pedal demo video and promptly head to the kitchen for an ample portion of humble pie. What a monster player!
The Structure switch in actually selects between 3 diode types. So saying it effects the low end is misleading. Left position is Germanium, Centre is Silicon, and Right is Mosfets (wired in diode operation). The Germanium sound a bit fuzzier and the Silicon and Mosfets sound very similar. The differences are most obvious when the gain mode is set to low and the gain knob is around 3 o’clock. Even then is very subtle. I seriously doubt anyone can tell the difference with the gain higher. As a matter of fact at higher gain settings you cant even see a difference on a scope as I’ve done it.
Jumping channels on Marshalls is a sophisticated, old trick that I'm very impressed you bring up.. Of course, when you tried that on a 100-watt head you literally blew your one ear all the way through your brain to the other ear or the met in the middle and blew up.
Hi Pete, Great demo as usual. Love them all, thank you so much. 1- If you had to chose just one pedal as your overdrive/distortion pedal which one would you chose, the Friedman BE-OD or the Bogner "La Grange". 2- if you only wanted to get the closest possible Van Halen's "Brown sound", which of the above pedal would younchose? Many thanks Ardavan
Hello Pete! Amazing tone and review! Will you say that this pedal retains the amp Bass response when on? Most of the overdrives I've tried shaves the bottom end quite aggressively. Im looking for a pedal that is pretty transparent and retains the amp characteristics
I have a feeling that if I researched many of the hits out today, Pete would be the credited writer. Just such a great grasp of assembling interesting tunes. Oh and the tones are killer.
Hello Pete, Which one would you go with, Wampler Pinnacle or Bogner La Grange and maybe Friedman Be-OD? Which attracts you more regarding your taste? Thanks, Love your reviews by the way, perfect!
Although the OD section is great on this pedal, the boost is not just an extra add on. The boost on this works very very well. You can come up with a number of cool tones with this pedal.
Last week i had the chance to test the La Grange and the Friedman BE-OD side by side, and the BE-OD was my favorite, and it was a bit cheaper. The La Grange was a little to compressed sounding for my taste, it just didn't have the punch i was looking for. both tested on a Fender twin clean setting. Although the BE-OD gain was a little over the top, but as you said, you can get inside and tweak the gain down a bit.
Every time I see you have a new product vid out, it's grin time. Always well explained, and GREAT tunes to demo them. You're a master at getting great recorded guitar tone. In the dictionary under "Tone" it should read "See Pete Thorn". In fact, I vote we just call it "thorn" from now on :O)
Pete's vids are always killer and they always have killer tunes. However, Bogner need to make a mini version of this pedal. I don't know why they haven't.
What's interesting is how he doe NOT use much of a clean sound with the pedal. He uses a little bit of crunch on his clean tone to get the "La Grange " to sound that good! His playing does it too! He could play a 2 by 4 with rubber bands and would still sound great! Pedal sounds great, but how much is it to do with playing?
Face it - the marketplace is frighteningly oversaturated (pardon the pun) with overdrive and distortion stompboxes. What there will NEVER be too much of is inspirational musicality, which, as we all know, Pete has in spades. A particular pedal may not be jaw-dropping - but the playing always is. Right?
Pete Thorn - Some people make the world a better and more interesting place by who they are and what they do - you just happen to be one of them. I count myself lucky as a human and guitar-strangler (hardly worthy of being called a musician) to have stumbled upon what you do here. It's not for no reason that I and so many like me keep coming back and back and back to see your latest offering. It's you who is due the thanks...
I got both recently and the Friedman is more modern sounding and higher gain. Not much of anything low or even medium gain in the Friedman. There's tons of distortion in that pedal. The Bogner more vintage sounding and loose with more focus on the mids to my ear. Probably more versatile if you're looking for more classic sounds.
Hi Pete great demo as always! what do you prefer between the lagrange and the Marvel Drive ? I need a new MIAB pedal and really can't decide between these two ..they both sound awesome in your demos. I play mainly classic rock and hard rock through a fender amp with both a strat and a les paul and I need a versatile and amp-like pedal .thanks from an Italian follower
Hey Pete- this is off topic regarding the la grange but I couldn't help but notice the small pedal board in front of your amp heads. It would be very interesting to hear about your choices and applications for that board and maybe a demo. Although I appreciate your gear demos (they're among the best on the tube) I'd like to know more about this side of what you do professionally.
I bought this pedal used 8-9 years ago and after maybe 6 months of home use the "on" footswitch quit working altogether. Being used there was no warranty and being a proprietary switch I couldn't just change it out myself. Called Bogner and with the repair cost and shipping, buying a new one would have been the best way to go. I sold it as is and moved on from it. After searching online I found that this was a known problem with these switches. Maybe they have fixed this problem with the new models but I'm not spending $250 to find out. Great sounding pedal but .................
Bogner is always a little ahead of times. He doesn't run with pack. Great pedal -I own it I love it. Expression option for analog device is ahead of the game, Most people won't use it, but they should because it retains high end and replace a pedal or two when you consider that you can then boost wherever you have the expression set. Pete- I know this is an older video but I have a request- please review the Lunastone Three Stage Rocket Midi pedal- it should be a classic for Marshall tone lovers as well.
I came to find out about this Paul, and totally forgot about the pedal because I mesmerized by this dude’s playing. Every time I watch him over the years, I’m absolutely blown away.
"Hey John, you are sort of a guitar player ... what are some of your favorite guitar songs?"

Ha! I told someone that the other day!!
jimw112233 haha yeah one of my favorite genres is Pete Thorn demo music
YES.
If Pete is "sort of a guitar player", then what does that make me? ... Jeez, I've been playing since 1985, but since Pete is better than I am, I guess that makes me a 'guitar-ish player"... Yikes, man.
Who said Pete is "sort of a guitar player"? Noone. Pete is THE guitar player!
It's pedals like this that make me realize I will NEVER be done buying and swapping out overdrive and distortion pedals. Great as always, Pete!
It always puzzles me that people come onto a video like this, that is interesting, perfectly executed, fully featured and just sounds amazing... and they still click "dislike"! jesus that song was literally too good for a demo video.
Thanks Bruno!
@@PeteThorn seriously, is there a recording to be found anywhere, though?
They are all like that from Pete.
Seriously Pete please tell us by when we can expect an album of yours with all the demo video tunes you've made...All of them sound freaking brilliant! You've been on fire lately!

pete your demos are by far the best on here , no bullshi$ , no nonsense , very informative to help us make the right decision , thank you .
Whenever I am looking at a new pedal the first thing I do is see if Pete Thorn has reviewed it. And honestly, these pedal demos are also the best guitar lessons on UA-cam.
I get so sick of saying this.
Pete, you're the man.. Love your work mate
Ha! Noooo i don't want you to get sick of me in any way shape or form!
Pete, your demos are the best man. Cheers from Australia
thanks!
No matter what gear you use, you make it sound A-MA-ZING!!!😱
Every video is a pleasure to my ears!!🤤
Greetings from Argentina!! 🇦🇷
Thanks Diego!
Always the best demo's Pete! Seriously this thing sounds better than some valve amps I've heard, it's stupid good.
Awesome song, with beautiful harmonized phrasing played through your very own style! So much personality in those chops!
Thanks! :) That's a great compliment- I ain't the fastest or the shreddiest but I hope to sound like "me".
YOU'RE A FUCKING BOSS! Very articulate gear language and break downs. Insane playing and masterful tone - no matter what gear you're demoing. No ego. Face melting and always have great hair. You're the man!

This song is fire! I'm not playing much anymore and have no need to buy more gear, but I come to listen to your chops! Same with my bros!
Thanks Tom!

Forget the pedal- that is a freakin killer tune and awesome guitar parts!
Pete - you are such a monster player! Always such great character to your playing. Thanks for another great demo!
You inspire me you are an amazing guitarist love your pedal reviews love your tones.
Thanks Matthew!
Damn Pete! Smokin. Love watching and listening to you play. Using the looper to show the different settings sound is brilliant.
Just got one. It goes from old plexi to modded marshall and is very tweekable. The boost function when used alone is a whole other fantastic sound as well. Amazing amp feel in a box. I'm now looking for another used one as a back up.
Can't wait for the next record Pete!!!

Dam Pete thorn! killer revue and just bad ass play!
keith ellis review ?
Holy crap Pete that some sick playing especially at the end with the Strat....damn son.
Thanks!
Pete’s solos are always soooo tasty...I can barely take it.
He also does his homework.
Well I can't tell by THIS demo how it sounds cause it's freaking Pete Thorn!!!
Another winning review, Mr. Thorn. :) A great sounding pedal! Your reviews are the best on the 'net.
I should be figuring out how to make my 74 JMP play CLEAN, so I can use all these cool new pedals to get killer gain tones, the Thorn way!
Demo a VHT V Drive please! I bet you would do a killer job and it's a very fun pedal!
Really great demo. That pedal sounded incredible and I loved the playing.
Hey, Pete. I love your videos and pedal reviews. Quick question. I already have an EVH 5150 Overdrive pedal and it's great. Heath Weber i wonder the same..
Same question
Wow !!! Such amazing phrasing and melodies :) !!!
Rockamps78 thank you so much
Hey Pete. I really love this video! Thanks for such a thorough and clear explanation. Love the tones and stellar playing!!
Pete! Just when I think you could never outdo yourself on a review- you do it EVERYTIME! Wow- just wow!
Thanks much, joe!
Impressive work Pete, I'm liking this pedal, note to sponsors Mr. Thorn deserves a raise!
hello, just a quick question whether we should have one Bogner LAGRANGE or Friedman BE-OD?
jean garcia what kind of music you play?

Marshall in a box any thoughts anyone and don't say amp I can't afford one cheers
I have a Friedman Be-OD and next month I'll be buying a La Grange. The Friedman will be the High Gain Beast and the La Grange Will cover the low/mid gain Plexi tone
I have never wanted to play a song as bad as I want to learn your intro. Absolutely killer!!!
I just tried one of these for the first time at Guitar Center and I was VERY impressed! I ran it into a Marshall DSL combo (clean channel of course). The pedal sounded WAY better than the DSL's gain channel - by leaps and bounds...
BADASS intro, Pete! One of your best demo songs.
Awesome Pete. I bought one to go in front of my PR12 Morgan 1X12 combo (practice amp) but, I'm thinking of changing to the Suhr Eclipse. Thoughts????
Trying to decide between the La Grange and the Wheebo JCM or JVM pedals for my main crunch rhythm sound thru my Fender tube amps. Tough decision. Suas demonstrações são demais, Pete!
Great demo Pete! I've been on the fence with this and you just made my decision. Thanks!
new to your channel dude, saw your Suhr demo with Steve Stephens and was blown away.
great playing , really tight .
Just bought this pedal and gigged with it last weekend...its awesome!
Hi Pete,
Great demo as usual. Love them all, thank you so much.

loved that harmony section Pete, nice tune too, guitar nerd 2 please???
Great demo of the pedal and awesome playing Pete!
Hello Pete!
Amazing tone and review!
Will you say that this pedal retains the amp
Bass response when on?
Most of the overdrives I've tried shaves the bottom end quite aggressively.
Im looking for a pedal that is pretty transparent and retains the amp characteristics
I have a feeling that if I researched many of the hits out today, Pete would be the credited writer. Just such a great grasp of assembling interesting tunes.
Oh and the tones are killer.
Hello Pete, Which one would you go with, Wampler Pinnacle or Bogner La Grange and maybe Friedman Be-OD? Which attracts you more regarding your taste? Thanks, Love your reviews by the way, perfect!
perfect playing/style to showcase this pedal ! Well done (again!).
Love it! You were getting after it, especially towards the end!!
Sounds fabulous Pete! I 'd like to hear you shred more often.
great playing, Pete. nice plexi tones and some great evh at the end!
Another killer demo - thanks Pete! Bought one of these bad boys after your demo ✌️🎸✨
Thanks!
I agree completely E.G.. Pete definitely has the "shine" for tone; the best in my opinion too.
Dude! How do you get that awesome guitar Thorn?
Awesome playing as always Pete!!! Great pedal by the way.
Is this a good pedal to play steve Stevens/Billy idol songs ?
Ana H. Melo the question we all need to know. Every time I walk into a guitar store people always ask the store an hey can this do idol tones man
What a great demo... this is my next pedal..Nice playing Pete!
Thanks for a fantastic review I'm definitely buying this pedal now!
Pete's vids are always killer and they always have killer tunes. However, Bogner need to make a mini version of this pedal. I don't know why they haven't.
Pete , la grange vs j.rockett 45 !? What you think is more versatile !? And a good responsive and dynamic pedal...
It's always fun when you bring the Partscaster out to play.
So... thoughts on this pedal compared to the EVH 5150 and the XTS Atomic Overdrive?
Best review of that pedal I've seen.
Thanks Chuck!
Great demo Pete, awesome guitar sounds.
Wow, I got a real Lynch vibe from those chords at the start, great stuff Pete!
I have been wanting this pedal for a long time now. I am torn between this one and the Supro Drive! I might get both for another rig.
Some guys just have a great ear for tone like Jerry Cantrell and Dean DeLeo. Pete Thorn is that kind of person. Great video as always

Dang Pete that intro should be a shred guitar single. props on the free reference. heavily underrated band
Hi Pete, how have you got it set for the EVH tone? Cheers!
As always, incredible sounds, Pete!
Gorgeous Gil Yaron you have there!
hi Pete. I got a friedman od after your review and love it. how would you compare the two?

I play mainly classic rock and hard rock through a fender amp with both a strat and a les paul and I need a versatile and amp-like pedal .thanks from an Italian follower
What pickup in the strat!? I'm assuming it's high output?
great demo Pete. SOLD!
Wow that sounds ridiculously amazing.
Wow! Talk about orgasmic inducing tone! Thanks so much for all the knowledge you lay upon us mere mortal hacks, Pete!
Beautiful song. Does it do great clean to dirty dynamic sounds just with the pick? I don´t like to use the volume knob but the picking. Thank you.
Hey Pete- this is off topic regarding the la grange but I couldn't help but notice the small pedal board in front of your amp heads. My word Pete that was just soooo good!! I must have one..
Love this pedal! Had chance to try it out today and was looking at the Friedman OD but like the La Grange better for classic rock and metal.
