Who would you like to see in the next super short lick lesson?
Foghat
Alex Lifeson
a little Zakk Wilde maybe?
I’d love some hairy 80s alternative picking runs!
How about a classic Beatles lick?
Eric's tone makes even wrong notes sound amazing.
Nah. Its not the tone. You can play a wrong note, it's what you do AFTER that counts. And EJ is great at sticking that landing
@@sagvjc2525 Yep,.. EVH called it "falling down the stairs, and landing on your feet."
@@psychonautpupildiallater7734 yup.
No it's not his tone it's his jacket
@@Happylink75 100% the jacket, i saw a dude making an awesome cover of cliff of dover and guess what? he was wearing the fucking jacket.
Eric's phrasing in 5 note runs is also a part of his unique style. The man also has impeccable touch,. doesn't make any "finger noise" even when he's shredding.
Probably the only way I'll be able to learn Eric Johnson licks....2 minutes at a time! :D
Me too
I don’t know how that does not sound pentatonic, that is the most pentatonic thing I’ve heard all day.
Love that tone and that lick. Love the short and sweet lessons. Keep up the great work. More Arpeggios soon please🤘🎸
I love this lick! It was probably my favorite little lick in Cliffs of Dover
Want to watch Eric Johnson play something that made my HEAD EXPLODE 🤯 WHATCH HIM PLAY “ARE YOU EXPERIENCED “ by J.H live .
He does the backwards solo
That was the most insane thing I ever seen a musician do live .
“He’s Eric Johnson he does what he wants”
Nice short and sweet lesson. Thanks. Yet another little building block in connecting triads and scales (and making them musical). Thanks.
Years ago you made me appreciate Eric Johnson @Robert Baker ☺️
I have always been firmly convinced that the final note of this run was intended to be a pinched harmonic to end the riff an octave higher, thus completing the arpeggio-style run.
Woahhh. Because the E becomes a B. Brilliant!
Man i love Eric Johnson he is so inspiring 🤩
Such a great lesson! That Eric Johnson tone is something special. Thanks!
Maybe a lil breakdown of Rhodes Mr Crowley 1st solo of the lick he does after the 1st big bend on 20th fret is pretty interesting. When he goes into that longer run.
Great breakdown of this lick. I agree with this approach on how diving into one small lick can change our entire perspective of something we hear. Well done.
Yes keep ‘em coming. I could practice this everyday for a while. Thanks!
Loved this lesson! Quick and easy, yet really expands how to use notes outside your a certain position. For this example box 2 of E pentatonic.
While practicing I liked to play it backwards, but finish on 12th fret of low E string to finish my E note there.
So good! EJ inspires, I find his choices hopeful. Thank you; simple, straightforward.
Great lesson Robert! Short, sweet and to the point!
I have been wanting ideas on breaking up the pent-box thanks for sharing this nugget of gold.
Love these shorties!
I love these lick lessons! More please!
I agree
We got tickets to see Eric live in March. Can't wait!
Cool lesson! Thanks Robert!
Excellent observations on some awesome guitar playing I enjoy immensely but assumed I could never understand. Thank you Brother Robert!
i loved the lesson nice and simple please many more EJ lessons like this .thank you
There is no disguising that scale it’s sound is instantly recognizable even by casual players
ROBERT BAKER, Do a lesson on how Steve Vai and Joe Satriani use the lydian scale because they use a minor aeolian scale so many frets away from the root note of the chord but its a lydian mode. Instead of playing a lydian mode they use a minor aeolian scale just starting off I think on the lydian scale degree.
Thanks Rob,,,one cool explanation of Eric's tricks. SIMPLICITY ❤IT.
Awesome, thank you
God bless you and your family
Great lesson and insight! I’m going to work on this!
Very nice explanation! Thanks my man!
Good one, bro. You could make a series called 2 minute Tricks or something focusing on specific artists or just take us all over the place. You rock! Keep it up.
Great idea!
Love these mini lick lessons!
Can definitely use this! Thanks!
That's an E minor 7 arpeggio. I can't believe I've been playing it wrong for years!!!!.... I started 1 note later (D) and ascended an E minor pentatonic. Thanks Robert !
Nice. Will definitely be adding to my arsenal.
Ok! I see you! Probably my favorite "End it bluesy" riff yet!
Eric Johnson is the master of arpeggios.
Cool, thanks for showing us the Perfect Eric Johnson lick!!!!!
Tanks always man!
love these! thanks RB
Perfect lesson
Sweet break down, love it!
Eric Johnson is Eric Johnson. He does what he wants.
Hahaha. Will remember that.
Short and sweet!!!! Cool lick!!!
i pick almost of 'em - starting with an up stroke on the first note. this lines you up to sweep/economy pick everything else.
How'd you get that tone? Great stuff as usual, keep up the good work!
Thanks! Great examples and explanations.
Wow thank you very much Will
@@RobertBakerGuitar 👍
Short but beautiful. Thanks a lot.
That's so funny. I always played that as part pentatonic/part sweep skipping the 17th fret note on the B string. Not sure if I can go back and fix it after playing it that way about 5000 times trying to get the song up to speed. Makes more sense now....
Robert, I come to your channel to become happier. I'm going through a tough divorce right now that is tough on my kids, and your great work and efforts make my day better. Thank you, Sir.
So glad the videos help man. Sorry you're in a tough spot in life. I really hope you get to the other side of it all soon buddy.
Sweet little lesson
It’s a G6 arpeggio that resolves to e minor. I was taught a long time ago how cool it sounds to play the relative major arpeggio over the minor or vice versa for lots of purposes. If you play the major over the minor it implies a min7, if you use the minor over the major it implies the maj6 chord. It makes you sound magical for simply playing chord shapes you already know . I also enjoy using like Andy Timmons does a lot using the pentatonic of the 5th chord over the 1 to make a killer maj7 sound such as D pent over G.
Dude....your to cool. Thanks.
That tone doe! Any tips on how you got there? Or any commentors want to spread their tone-chasing insight?
Man that was cool!
Ok, nice. Where is the Eric Johnson signature guitar giveaway? Giveaway guitars what am I living for.
That's pretty clever. Nice
Nice....smooth and sweet.
Cool Short Lesson..Thanks.
Cool Short Comment..Ace.
Great vid
ty
Awesome!
Fantastic
Rad! How about something wacky from Roy Buchanan?
Diagonally. Pretty sneaky.
Sweet tone, sweet lick, what’s not to love!?
Awesome
Beautiful wow
Is the giveaway done
What pedals did you use to get that tone?
That was actually 50% Johnsony and 50% Bakery. Great job! 🤟🏼
Erictonic
EJ uses down strokes where most players would do alternate. It's a really uncomfortable thing to get used to, but when you use down instead of alt, it hits the mark. Try replaying the lick and pick it using down strokes
It's always so fluent, like water haha
You gotta lawn de chords
Like that!
Do a video on the tone lol
Nice
Smoother than donkey snot 👍👍👍
🤘🎸
Leave that 👍
Maybe some Steve Howe please
Now imagine playing it in Diagon Alley.
Are you a musician in a band
Eric J
👍❤️
You’ve done this before
👏👏👏👏👍
Does this remind anyone else of one of the licks in Sanitarium by Metallica?
do i have to wear a military jacket
Boy that one feels really akward. I'll have to do this for a while to get it locked in. Thanks. 👍
There are no wrong notes 🎶😹
One thing which you missed which makes this lick extra special is this the final note is often pinch harmonised. You can hear this near the end of the desert rose live in austin solo
lets talk about your guitar :)
What happened to the 80s metal on this channel?
Awesome lesson, awesome tone! EJ does pick it all actually, combination of alternate and economy/sweep with his typical downward pick slanting. Down-Up-Down-Up on the A and D strings. down on the G string sweep to the B string, for a Down-Up on the B, then Down-Up down on the E string. Thats how to get this the most EJ fluid sounding (although I don't even think he does this anymore, he hammers on everything these days).
Just for fun why don’t you demonstrate this lick nearer the middle of the neck or the headstock?
You’re right (by the way) it is an amazing sounding lick!
