no clue as to diagnosing engine, but for some odd reason I always enjoy watching people work on them.
Yeah the end result should be that its better - this car is at almost 222,000 miles though. Getting close to RIP
Transmission control module is the problem
Try changing the fuel rail sensor and the pcv valve and the oil sensor
This car was scrapped 3 weeks ago - did a video on it - made it to 225,000 miles - thanks for watching.

Egr valve mostly likely I had the same and replaced it helped and also the Mass Air Flow sensor

Try Amazon cheaper or rock auto
@@CorazonDmelon EGR on the freestyle is buried but gettable. It has 100k on it, probably a good time to replace.
Cam position or Crank position sensors.
That's my bet.
And buy a code reader. They're only about $30 on Amazon.

I get a free code read at advanced auto on the check engine light. Sounds like a engine misfire. When you can find out on which cylinder it misfires, it's an easy change out if it's a coil. Happened all the time on my older cars.
Car places like Advanced Auto aren't doing free code reads because of covid they say. Took it to a garage about 6 weeks ago and they weren't sure either.
Try replacing the spark plugs and coils as well according to the manuals it’s prob due too

My 07 freestyle car just hit 100,000 miles yesterday, and the check engine light just came on. Last year however someone did put bark some pebbles and dirt in my fuel tank, I haven't had any problems top now.
My car has 230000 miles on it. I Haven't had any problems accept fuel rail sensor and this surging issue
I have a 2007 it doesn't go to limp mode but it randomly decides it doesn't want to shift out of first. It usually knocks/clunks hard when you shift it into reverse and drive whenever it does it. But when it shifts into reverse or drive smoothly, it doesn't get stuck in only first gear. Anyone know the issue?
I have the same issue the tool wrench appears
And then when you shift it shakes the whole engine
That's limp mode. These cars have CVTs so there is no 1st, 2nd etc. The wrench means there is an issue with the driveline. I can tell you all the things I've done that DIDN'T make it go away, but I can't tell you what will work. Good luck.

This same thing just happened to me. Also a 2006 but with about 100k less miles on it. It hasn't been driven much this past year, but I just did a ton of other work on it. The dash lights only come on once its being driven, not always in idle. Usually, if the TB is disconnected it goes a bit wonky for a bit once its started back up again. Either can get it reset via a scan tool or sit and let it idle at about 1500 rpms for a few minutes to get it recalibrated. I have a scan tool and it is giving me only MAF and TB trouble codes. The little red clip on the MAF sensor connector is broken and wondering if thats at least part of it and maybe not on snug enough even though it seems to be. My TB didn't look that dirty either and I cleaned it pretty thoroughly off the vehicle prior. If the TB is all the sudden bad, oh well, easy fix. I saw that you mentioned it was the transmission, was it leaking or burning fluid? Or was it just super dirty?
Found out - yes it was transmission that really was causing the main problem - the big problem was putting fluid in - it had to go up on a lift. Luckily I know the owner of a local shop and he helped me out to buy some more time - I appreciate you watching and commenting.

Did you ever get it fixed. I also have a 2006 Ford freestyle. And when I'm stopped at a stop sign or red light. It wants to go it serges forward and if I'm not paying attension. I will jump in Into someone if I don't get this fixed Pretty soon it mainly only does it.When I have the A/C on

ours turn out to be transmission issue
Still think it’s a transmission problem .. you have a cvt transmission.. with cvt transmission its run on belts ..with 220,000 miles those belts get stretched and worn. But FYI go down on luzerne st in Scranton too laser lube owner name is Chris tell him I sent you .. he’ll scan you’re car for cheap or maybe even free.
Since I drive it - im pretty sure its not that - there is no gear shifting problem. It happens only when engine is warm and at stop when throttle body flap is OPEN.
@@PatDees take it down too laser lube .. you’re wrench wouldn’t blink for throttle body .. wrench would blink for major engine or transmission problems

i just get a 2007 one with154 miles but it happens sometimes ,is drive well ths some day that light come on the pannel snd stop running then i live the car for a few minutes and is runnig well so whats is the deal?!!
154 miles ? or 154,000 ?
Going through the same issue right now with mine. To date I've replaced both tranny filters, valve body, both tranny speed sensors, speed sensors at all 4 wheels and the TB. It still goes into Limp Mode, but not very often. Using the cruise control will trigger it almost instantly though. Good luck.

Check transmission fluid. It's in tough spot to fill - I did mine at garage.

It the ERG valve, that is what causing the computer to shut down power.

Same problem here...egr valve causing that problem... I changed the EGR valve and cleaned the pipe...! I changed fuel rail pressure sensor too...

@@knowledgeispower6383 yes... everything is working perfect now ..I actually removed the secondary catalytic converter at the same time...! And cleaned the throttle body...! Car is running smooth...!
Run these are garbage I had an 07 and the engine sounded like a helicopter and the engine died on me, these are crap cars!!
Mine got 240,000 miles - it has had issues but overall not a bad car.
They haven't made them for 15 years and I still see at least 1 or 2 every day. These cars will last as long as any other if they're properly cared for. The CVT works just fine and lasts forever if you don't try to use ATF in it. The helicopter noise is the input shaft. They go bad when owners don't maintain the tranny properly. Easy but costly/time consuming fix.
I've got a 2007 AWD with over 255K miles. bought it used a year ago for $600. power steering was out...ya, it took me a hour to fix. drove it for about a year and just recently changed the plugs and coil packs, put a new pcv valve in and it runs like a new car.
The first owner must've taken extremely good care of it until the power steering went out.
My car sounds like a helicopter right now 😂 same year and model does this mean its the end???😊
