  • My first games that I sold on steam in my game developer career have been selling for a while so I wanted to take a look at how much money they have made. I also wanted to go over how I can improve being a game dev based on what I've seen work and what has failed so far. So how much money I've made selling my indie games on steam? Well that is the question, so I wanted to go over making money sellings games, selling your game on steam, and how to make money as a game developer. I hope you learn something from this so your indie game launch goes well!

    Just to shed some light on the wishlists. It's not necessarily beneficial to have a store page up for such a long time before launching. It all depends on your marketing. For instance, if you have a youtube channel and you're making videos on the development you'll want to have a page so that people can wishlist it and get notified in case they forget about it.
    However, if you're not marketing the game and solely depending on Steam's launch round visibility then it really doesn't matter much. I found that some of my games that had a store page for a long time would have 50 wishlists after a year, and the week before release it would jump to around 1k wishlists since it starts to appear on the "Upcoming Releases" page as well as landing on people's discovery queue.

    Great tips and advice, thanks Blekoh! I'm thinking about releasing a short horror game for free on Steam. Do you think this is a good idea? My thinking is that it would be a good way to get experience publishing and build a larger following for future releases.

    • @Blekoh

      Awesome! Yeah I think its a great learning experience to go through the whole publishing process on steam at least once before you make a longer game. Good luck! :)

      Absolutely! If I can give one piece of advice, make extra sure your game plugs a way for people to follow you (Such as a discord or a twitter etc). I recently dropped a free horror game on Steam that got over 200k downloads but neglected to give people a way to follow me so it was a fairly useless experiment.

      @@thedollargamestore that is a great tip! I'll make sure to do that for each game I release in the future : )

    Just curious, how long does it normally take steam to approve a game?
    I know they say leave at least 5 business days but does it usually take longer?

    • @Blekoh
      @Blekoh  8 місяців тому

      Usually it’s like a day or 2 but they don’t do it on the weekends so if you submit on a Friday it would take longer

    i now this sounds stupid but how do i calculate how much i can make so i can make a pricing. like how much steam will take a cut

    • @Blekoh
      @Blekoh  4 місяці тому

      Steam takes a 30% cut, so if your game is $10 you get $7 per sale before taxes
      (Your Price) x (0.7) = (How much you make per sale)

    Yo, my guy you are game developer. I have qustion. Is there a fee from steam when someone activates a steam key for your games?

    • @Blekoh
      @Blekoh  Рік тому +1

      @@ssStolengrad There is no fee when steam keys are activated. As a developer you are allowed to generate steam keys as needed and use them how you need to

    • @ssStolengrad
      @ssStolengrad Рік тому

      @@Blekoh thanks, i had discussion with somebody who claimed to be a game developer. He said he got a 2%-5% fee when someone activated steam keys of his game. I thought this wasn't the case basedbon the guidelines and user agreement. But i could never something that said it more directly. And the best evidence i could find was a video link on their site. And his rebuttal was its old.
