I'd rather have a standard in red too...just worried about the longevity of a standard shock...6000miles on a Yamaha MT07 etc,is all they are made for,and they are light...happy travels!
At last a review of the standard version, and glad it didn’t deliver any bad remarks. I have ordered the red one with the sport and style packs and should be picking it up next week (here in the Netherlands). Can’t wait to get on it 😊✌️

Agree completely, its price alone shoots into a new realm. Of course it’s not a top tier performance machine. But hot damn for what they’ve given us for the price it’s very good
I really like the look of it and have had 3 Fireblades in the past. No cruise control is a deal breaker for me though. What an insane decision not to make it an option but they never seem to learn

I don’t think it’s for me but well done Honda for selling a 1000cc bike at this price. Having said that I’ll def take one out for a spin to compare it with my MT10. Hopefully there will be a knock on effect with other manufacturers who are already dealing with the Chinese imports that are starting to look good enough for most people to consider them…
Good shout doing the base model imo. Everyone else has focused entirely on the SP & if money is the name of the game, then a lot of people will go for 9k base model. Plus the SP post launch price will go up pretty soon & probably be closer to 11k than 10 within 12 months or so.
I like this bike, will get up to Fowlers & test ride one & real credit to Honda for not ripping us off but I genuinely don’t get why everyone thinks this is a bargain, it’s absolutely the right money for what it is, a 2017 bike with a TFT & basic electronics. I’m sure it’s a great bike, Honda reliability & it’ll sell well but the cost of new bikes has gone ridiculous which makes this look like a bargain imo.
I don't think you'll keep it long and then the dealers will be offering about £5000 to trade it in. There will be pre reg ones next Christmas and that will lower trade in prices even lower👍

Isn’t this just the latest incarnation of previous hornets which were generally good all round but basic work horse models, isn’t that purpose of the CB range? Lets hope its as bullet proof as those, being a Honda it probably will be🤞Presumably it is the best Honda can do at that price level for a Hornet model? Clearly Honda have other models fulfilling the height of desirability, bling and cutting edge designs in their range, but thats not the point of this bike. @ the dealer suggested putting a small deposit fully refundable as dates are apparently already slipping into July 205 for new orders, they had 4 in the showroom already sold, and no one had test ridden any yet which is scary ! Parting with 10k having not ridden one madness lol

Nice one mate. The dash is ok and now used across several platforms now from each of the 500’s, the 650’s, etc. it works, looks good and is easy to use. You can also fit an aftermarket cruise control system that does look OEM as it does have ride by wire.
Mate - congrats. I am proper jealous here in the US where we don't have this model, or the new 600RR or the NT1100. There is no love from Honda for us over here!
There’s a reason why Honda have sold almost 20 million bikes in the last 12 months…. Based on price point I’m not sure the Hornet has any competitors at the moment.
I was waiting for this but got a cracking deal on a MT10(£10500 brand new) I was worried about size as I’m 20.5 stone and 6’2” I didn’t like being stuck in the seat on bmw XR so still happy with my choice

I can't tell you how happy I am to see a proper key, in a barrel in the usual place, instead of some keyless bobbins. I'm still not keen on the styling, it's not ugly but I prefer both previous styles for the big CBs, the neo-cafe and the plainer, big-headlight naked, and I still think this new one looks too much like the Kawi Z1000, but overall seems a solid bike for a good pricepoint. Hope it does well for Honda.

No info on pricing yet in Australia but I'd imagine it's going to sit around $15,000-$17000 AUD. Competing with the likes of the Yamaha MT09, Kawasaki Z900 etc. can't wait for it!
Interesting to see a review of the Kwaka 900Z SE and your Hornet SP? The suspension difference and brakes are the main things that would make me think about getting the SP - not the extra 5 bhp. Nice if you can get a cowl to cover the pillion seat. The Red paint job for mine. Cruise control would be handy on speed camera alley on a high performance bike like that. I have adaptive cruise control on my Suby- 100k down to 40kmh without touching anything.

Trouble is, style wise, is that it looks a bit like a 5 year old CB500f which dates it a tad. Those welds are a bit poor for Honda too, they will still sell well though at that price.

Always on indicators. Stupid flashing brake lights. The horn / indicator switches are in the wrong spot and no cruise control. Otherwise it's pretty sweet.
I get the interest at that price point, but why not go for an XSR900 which is pretty much the same price, comes with Brembo master cylinder, quick shifter as standard and cruise control and in my opinion looks much better. Yes it doesn't have the 4 cylinder 150bhp but probably the best triple on the market with plenty enough power and torque.
My only disappointment is no decent cowl/flyscreen to give a bit of air deflection and tidy the front up. The optional one does very little. No doubt aftermarket will do something.
Suzuki is their nearest competition, both the MT10 and the Z900 are either side of the Hornet, Suzuki need to lower their '950' to £8499(costs the same to uncork as every other K5 motor),and tart up their GSX-S1000 and have it at £9999 too!
After the latest fireblade and the 600rr Honda seem to be flexing and I reckon this is their first stab into the massive naked market. The cb1000r was piss poor in comparison in my opinion. It just didn’t do anything brilliantly. I love that they’ve thrown this into the pot.
If I didn’t get my street triple 765r last year I defo would of looked into getting one of these especially in the red shame I’d loose too much on my str 🙈
Hats off to Honda, producing a bike with trick suspension for below 10 grand. I suspect they've seen the Chinese bikes and have had to step up , because not everyone is going to dump 17 ,20 or up on the usual stuff that's being offered. Might turn out to be what the monster did for Ducati
I bought the cb1000+ neo when it came out. The finish quality was awful. Tank paint scratched every time you washed it. Paint on the engine peeled by the sump. Tank had rust on the welds. Seat material split. All this in only 1200 miles. It was only rode on non salty roads. I got caught in a rain downpour once and as a result the dash screen was water logged and was replaced. Put me right off Hondas
It is ‘cheap’, but it looks cheap as well. It wouldn’t be for me. I had the Neo Cafe, I liked the attention to detail on that bike over this one, but the paint did flake off my engine.
Personal choice it's not much harder to clean but needs a matt specific shampoo,I know I've got matt black paint oh and a very small matt detail spray not expensive.
lights i can put up with but thank god Honda haven't put the linked brake system which put me off buying anything with it on, cheers. Oi, what about the red one
I heard that, seems poor sales outlook to me. I passed an Aprilia dealer and talked to sales guy. He went and got the keys to the demo and within minutes I was trying a 1100 Tuono Factory out. I bought it 2 weeks later.

Strikes me as a reincarnated modernised 2006 FZ1 N with better fueling only the FZ1 was never cheap to buy.

i sat on one yesterday and its to small for me at 6.2 feet but it looks beautifully made typical honda
For me this about the only 1000c i can actually fit on at 5"4 and 28" inside leg! I am tempted but my CBR650R is only just 10 months old. 😃
The first generation had a 180 on the rear, I liked it better than the second generation one. Im looking forward to getting a spin on this one.

Could this Honda Hornet CB1000 be used for a Sport Tourer model? Could the Chassis handle this?

Personal choice it's not much harder to clean but needs a matt specific shampoo,I know I've got matt black paint oh and a very small matt detail spray not expensive.

I heard that, seems poor sales outlook to me. I passed an Aprilia dealer and talked to sales guy. He went and got the keys to the demo and within minutes I was trying a 1100 Tuono Factory out. I bought it 2 weeks later.
Its a shame the back end isnt wider so a roll bag/luggage could be mounted to it. Looks too narrow for that.
