Mermaid! Another tip...DO NOT replace conditioner with shampoo on a regular basis!!! It would be like regularly taking a shower or bath with lotion instead of soap.🚿🛁💧💙
So true!! Thank you for sharing!! 💙💙
Mermaid!!!! 😊
what if i use both?
Mermaid
@@fatib3200 still not a good idea if you have 4 type hair-4a,4b,4c you only should deep shampoo once a month and 4 type hair needs to be co washed once or every two weeks what ever works best for you
You blew my mind when you told us how to make our own co-wash because when I went natural like 3 years ago, everyone said instead of using cowash you could regular conditioner and that wouldn't do anything for new but produce more buildup, Thank You❤️
I’m so glad you found that tip to be helpful!! 💕 thank you For watching!
I have scalp issues (real bad sometimes), and so I can't CO-wash or go sulfate-free. It is what it is. I'm 45 and tried *everything* I could possibly try, but I do need a medicated shampoo (Nizoral 2%) and that and a good harsh sulfate wash are the only things that work. So I stick to what works, scalp health is more important to me. And the dryness I can *always* combat with applying my conditioner a few times instead of just once - and it works for me!
Yes sticking to what works is so important! Especially in your scenario! Everyone’s hair and scalp is different so I’m glad you found a method that works well for you!!
You could only put it on your scalp then let it just run down your hair, no?
Marleen G. Omg im the exact same
I have same issue recently bought Asiam dry and itchy with tea tree and it worked better than nizoral! Try it 2and wash no more flakes
@@11antigoni I'm personally fine with what I have, and I can't go sulfate free or CO-wash, that is a given.
I subscribed as soon as she said "i'll love you more than i already do". I needed that
♥️♥️♥️♥️
Now that its the summer, I’ve been going natural letting my curls go and not straightening my hair. So glad I came across your video girl! Had to subscribe 😍
I’m glad you’re giving your curls a break for the summer! Thank you so much for watching!
Great cowashing tip to mix moisturizing conditioner with a little sulfate free shampoo! I'm definitely trying this during my mid-week wash.
I love cow-washing especially when I am lazy cause it’s moisturizing and I don’t need to condition
Very true!!
Cow-washing would be fun
@@LydiaTefera i already use sulfate free shampoo & conditioner. So whats my clarifying shampoo??
I love cowashing every 3 to 4 days. It's made my hair so soft and my ends less dry. I still wash with shampoo once a month though.
I actually never wash with shampoo. I always use conditioner. It's been like 2 months, and I haven't really felt or seen any serious problems with my hair. Should I still be concerned, or just keep doing my thing? Honestly, I just don't have time and money to use normal washing methods.
@@courtneybridge1427 I would wash once a month with shampoo to clarify the hair completely. So you won't have build up. Build up can eventually block moisture from penetrating your hair. So is good. It doesn't have to be an expensive shampoo
Courtney Bridge want to mention clarifying is important ... long term effects may occur even if not shampoo use a clay mask
antonia maldonado once a month!?!? wow
Mermaid!!!! I cowash mid week and really shampoo on Saturdays.
💕🧜🏾♀️💕🧜🏾♀️ it’s great that you have a clear schedule!
MEEEE
i shampoo my hair 1x or 2x a week, depends! co-washing helps a lot!!
Mermaid....Not sure how much of a tip this is or not. As I discovered/did it by accident when I was trying to re-fill my conditioner bottle(I have limited space for my hair stuff and having super large bottles of stuff for my hair eats up said space. So I transfer however much I need to travel sized bottles to use more frequently and store the larger bottles elsewhere til empty) one day. And instead of mixing usual Pantene for Natural Hair conditioner with the OGX Keratin Oil conditioner I picked up. I wound up adding in some of the Keratin conditioner to my co-wash bottle.
And at first I was like oh snap what am I going to do. But figured since I used both of them anyway and they are both conditioners, I'd give it a try. And low and behold, I found a way to really soften and give my hair strength all in one(and very soft and silky feeling once washed out). Especially if I wait the 3 to 5 mins that is suggested for the Keratin conditioner to sit on my hair, as opposed to the 1 min wash out of the co-wash. So yea, think I will keep up doing it this way.
P.S. not quite washing day conditioner related. But I finally pitched out Cantu Repair Cream and even Dark and Lovely Anti-Shrinkage leave in as well(finally brushed up on more of what are bad ingredients for hair. And learned for sure those 2 had quite a few. And it was no wonder my hair was feeling like it did). And cracked open the Kinky-Curly Knot today leave in. And so far having good results. Hair feels on the level of how it was when I was using the Miracle 10w/Keratin conditioner. Although pretty curious how it will do once I use it on a fresh wash day though...
Mermaidddd! And I love cowashing in between washdays. I only really wash my hair every two weeks and in between I'll do a quick rinse and cowash to restore moisture and get rid of any build up especially gel!
love your energy and your tips are so so helpful to learn💕😊🤞🏽
Mermaid 🧜🏾♀️!! Love it! Great tips and I’m definitely subscribing ☺️
thankyou for these tips i was thinking in the shower if i could skip the shampoo and use conditioner and i searched it up if its a thing and i reached you! also damn those pearly whites are blinding me
Thank you so so much!
Mermaid!! You definitely need to start adding whatever song that you're lip singing to into the description box lol. Another great video Lydia! I really cowash bc of my health I wash my hair every other weekend, and by then I definitely need a shampoo honey. I make sure that I clarify every month though. That's important.
I’ll make sure to start including it! And I’m glad you have a schedule for when you wash and co wash your hair! Thanks for sharing!

Can you do a video with all the essentials a curly girl needs to start her journey. Also, do you think it worth buying the DevaCurl Blower and diffuser?
Hi! I actually have a video where I talk about my curly hair starter kit essentials! And I personally don’t diffuse my hair
I have really oily hair and nothing as ever worked on it, except co-washing. I have straight short hair, and I use the drunk elephant co wash and scalp scrub + occasionally their shampoo. It has honestly changed my hair, and no more dandruff!
ive been watching all your videos and i love them i really do and watching them really helped my curly hair thank you for your videos💗
Thank you girl!!! 💖💖💖
Thanks for the tips, I learn something new that I didn’t know. 🧜🏾♀️
For me during the week I sometimes condition my hair my hair can’t go too long so I shampoo twice a week and sometimes during the week I add a bit of conditioner because my hair gets tangle and it feels like I washed my hair and looks like it
Mermaid! Love all the tips n tricks thx! I know this is off topic but have u heard of the aunt Jackies don't shrink gel? I would like to see you try that. Just to compare to Camille rose!
I have heard of it but I haven’t tried it yet! I’ll try and pick it up next time I’m out Hair product shopping! Thanks for watching girl! 🧜🏾♀️💕🧜🏾♀️🤗💕
Late to this video butttttt I heard kehlani in the beginning of the video and IMMEDIATELY subscribed!!
🧜🏽♀️, I’m supposed to feel a tingly sensation on the top of my head correct? And how much co wash is “too much” because I was told a quarter size by my hair technician! Awesome video! Thanks in advance girl :)
Informative “Mermaid “!
🧜🏾♀️💕🧜🏾♀️💕
Mermaid!! Watching during COVID 19 in 2020. I will give co-wash a try and especially with your tip of adding a little dollop of shampoo!
Can you only co-wash if you swim in a chlorinated pool every day? I soak my hair in water and wear a cap, but I have been using shampoo for fear that some of the chlorine might still be in my hair.
I have a question if I start doing co washes do I change my washday or keep it the same like if I do my Co wash on wensday and my regular washday is Friday should I change it to next monday? and do I still use conditioner on my washday?
Mermaid.. hi I plan on cowashing after day 4 since my product build up has my hair feeling a little crunchy 😳 then I’ll was again in 4 more days. This will be my first time trying a cowash between shampoos.. so I’ll see how this works for my hair
Keep me updated!!
Same I’m thinking of doing this tomorrow !
Mermaidddddd 🧜🏾♀️. I agree cowash isn’t for anyone I tried the cowash from As I Am. It smells heavenly but I’d rather wash my hair because it feels cleaner in my opinion.
Yeah everyone has different preferences! Thanks for sharing! 💕🧜🏾♀️
Mermaid. New here and loved the video. Been searching for products and how to care for my little ones hair.
MERMAID!!!!!!!! I prefer to shampoo my hair every week i tend to get a little heavy handed with products. I may co wash once in a while when Im super lazy. great video girl!
Same here!! And thank you!! 💕💕💕
What clarifying shampoo do you recommend?
What editor do you use for your videos!!? ❤️
So glad you said it’s not right for everyone...I co wash and my hair is fine shampoo just strips my hair
so would i just use co wash by itself or conditioner with co wash or just by itself please:)
Tbh, I always wash my hair with conditioner. It's just faster, and it makes my hair feel great.
I really don’t like co washing either. My hair doesn’t feel clean afterwards. Mermaids 🧜♀️ 🧜🏽♀️🧜🏿♀️
Yeah I only go wash if I’m testing out a product or if I’m being super lazy haha
But woukdnt shampooing weekly strip the hair of moisture?
Can you review some of Soultanicals products? They are loved by so many. I hear they are so popular that the shipping takes ages
Oh wow really? I’m about to check out their website now
30% off mother’s day sale going on right now if you still want to check them out
I just bought the coil jelly! Thank you!
Your hair is giving me life 😍 😍
I stopped cowashing for 2 years and starting using shampoo following up with a conditioner when I wash my hair now my hair feels so much dryer and styles do not last in my hair compared to when I used to cowash. I also experience more breakage too without cowashing in my regimen. My hair is high porosity and I’m considering going back to conditioner. I guess I need to cowash
Yeah everyone’s hair is different so it’s just a matter of finding what routine works best for you. Thank you for watching!
Mermaid!!! I am so confused!!! I do not know what kind of products are good and I am still a bit confused on co wash, also should I be shampooing everyday and conditioning everyone once in a while(Ik it’s rlly bad but I’m now just starting to take care of my curls but I am so confused!!)
You're such a beauty!!
🤗🤗🤗 thank you!
Mermaid mermaid mermaid 🧜♀️ Appreciate the info!
MERMAIIDDDDDDD BABYY! 🧞♀️💕
Mermaiddddddd 🧜🏽♀️🧜🏾♀️🧜🏿♀️ I rarely get build up so I co-wash sometimes. I was actually surprised it worked for me.
That’s great!! 💕🧜🏾♀️
Mermaid!! Thank you Lydia, very helpful ma'am!!!
Thank you for watching!
🧜🏾♀️🧜🏾♀️🧜🏾♀️🧜🏾♀️
I don't co wash like that but sometimes I'll spray acv and water on my scalp prior to cowashing
Mrs Nelson so do I
I hear that’s a great method!
I shampoo Twice (Swim Days)
Co-wash Every Day (Gym Days)
I sweat a lot from workouts
🧜♀️. thank you! this was very helpful.
Mermaid. I’ve never done a co-wash before so I’m excited :)
do u mean like 3 in 1 axe shampoo + conditioner???
Does anyone have recommendations for good co-washes? I’m looking to start cowashing every other week but I have no clue which one to buy since there’s so many different companies! 😭😭 I’ve been looking at Camille Rose but it’s so expensive I wanna try to find something else before I commit to that
as i am co-wash!
or like she said, you can just use hair conditioner instead
@@yesip09 thanks! I’ve heard good things about as I am

So is co-wash similar to a pre-shampoo????!?
Not necessarily. Co wash is more for cleansing
@@LydiaTefera Thank you for this lovely video!. Do you think you could do a video on 'the difference between a co-wash and a pre-poo' -for the sake of newbies'like me? I still don't know what the purpose of either one is. I had never heard of a co- washing and pre-pooing until now and I'm 53 years old!
I embraced my curls some years ago but never knew how to care for then. I had no idea there was a curlygirl movement going oh!! Not sure why somebody's wash n go video came up as a recommended video but I've been hooked ever since!!

Mermaid. I enjoyed the tutorial
Thank you!
I started co-washing and that's the worst thing I ever did. Though my conditioner is chemical free and works wonders with shampoo but I wanted to try co-wash method because of its hype.
I experienced massive hair fall after that. I got so damn scared. So, it's a big No No for me.
....
I would suggest that don't blindly fall for these new methods. Rather try it (for sure) and see if it works on your hair. And if it doesn't then don't force your hair to get used to it, just go back to the traditional method. ✌
Buy damn Co wash don't use conditioner .... they sell co wash as I'm have co wash mielle .. dozen of products has co wash
