I am honestly in love with all your videos! I used to hate my hair and cry about it all the time. I am slowly beginning to love my natural curly hair and it's all thanks to you!
Same I have no idea how to manage my curly frizzy hair, I'm going to try cowashing to see if that is the problem...and dont give up on your beautiful curls, you got this!!! 😌✨💞
U have helped me change my hair forever my god thank you
Thank so much, I hated my curly hair but the truth was that I didn't know how to take care of it I started cowashing about a week ago and my hair has never looked better. The curls are more defined and my hair shines before I shampooed often but now I don't think I'm ever going to lol your advise really helped 😀😀
yay!
So if your co washing how often do you use shampoo when going through a curly hair transition journey ?
+Rainbow Lama
Hi! Cowashing is an effective cleansing method, and in my opinion its just as good as shampoo. It washes out my "dirt and oils" just fine, except my hair is a lot more moisturized :)
After you co wash do you put on conditioner again after like for how you'd normally use conditioner?
+CurlyPenny Hey! Thanks for these wonderful videos, they are super helpful!
I just started going the all natural route in September after 3 years of straightening my hair nonstop!
I'm loving how my curls are finally coming back but my scalp seems to be fighting back with a vengeance. It's super dry and I keep getting terrible amounts of dandruff on the edges of my scalp. I used to use those harsh dandruff shampoos, but thy are horrible for my hair. Any tips on how to get rid of this?
I'm desperate and really don't want to ruin all the progress I've made with a shampoo full of chemicals.
Thanks! :)
+CurlyPenny that condtoiner makes my hair long
+Stephanie Polonio Hi! I had the same problem. Try doing an apple cider vinegar rinse after you're finished washing
Thanks!
+Lainey Kittrell
It is completely okay to rewet your hair between wash days :)
pervsanelrin redci
Thx I've been wondering about that!❤
@Penny Tovar How would u implament Shampoo and conditioner day, deep conditioner day, and co wash day?
You don’t put the conditioner throughout your whole hair?
Did it today, wonderful results using suave naturals daily clairifing condtioner for cleansing and wild cherry blossom for condtioning . My hair felt so soft .
Thanks penny!
Stephy Sprinkles yay!
i love all of your tips on curly hair. my hair is so soft and smooth after i tried all your tips out by myself. i wished i discovered your channel earlier. today i can embrace my hair but before i felt ashamed for it. now i take care really good on my hair and hopefully it will be as long and pretty as yours. thank you so much for your advices! i'm literally so happy, i wish i could hug you! ×●×●
aw im so glad for you!
Thanks for this video. I've been co-washing for a year now. If my hair does feel a little "dirtier", I just wash with conditioner twice instead of once. It's made my hair much healthier that I don't use shampoo anymore. When I do shampoo, my hair gets really dried out, so I just stick with co-washing now. I use Mane n' Tail conditioner. (:
At 1:58 I died
OMG SAME
TRUE.
No one like this comment keep it at 158
it kinda triggered me
I'm so glad I found your channel. It's helped me be able to take care of my natural hair..because otherwise it's too frizzy.
your tips are amazingly helpfull but ur sense of humor is even better love to watch u girl.
Aw thank you :')
I'm so glad i found your videos, life changing!
I love all your tips for curly hair because I have curly hair and it's hard to find right shampo and conditioners so your channel is perfect for when I need to know what to do with my curly hair and how to properly take care of it
+PRISCILLA NUNEZ PUENTE thank you! :’)
That was beyond awesome! Thank you Penny! Nice, fast, quick, and EASY!
My sister should me your UA-cam Chanel and told me to do my hair natural like yours so I was watching your videos and then got some tips from you and now I wear my hair natural 😀😀
Erica13001 so glad for you!
Hey curlypenny...1st :i wanna thank you alot for giving me the inspiration to actually start going by the curly method...i only started all of that to find ways to get linger hair but then i found ur channel and ur tips worked well and I feel so much better...2nd wanna say ur hair is amazing..think u've haird that million times now but still :D...3rd:i have some questions: the apple cider vinegar did define my hair and like made it just (standing in place) but it made it really reaallly drrryyyy so i quit using it...i use the protein (egg white milk and so )recipe for conditioning..am I going right? Another thing:i have those baby curls around my hair line and near my ears and they are the only spoilers for my look now ...i used to straighten them by heat (btw never got any longer so i wont wait for them to grow and fit in the rest of the longer hair and they can't by pinned they are thin and u know curly they just like to stand out from the crowd like antennas ) so...what should i do to those !!! ....anyway waiting for ur reply and thanks thanks thanks alooottt.
hi! thanks so much! If you want to do the egg thing and if it works great for you, then by all means just keep doing it :) as for baby hairs, style them with some styling product after the shower, just twirl them in their natural direction so they can be more defined
Lol i love your face at the end when your done cowashing! You're awesome
lawl thanks :3
How often do you co-wash your hair? Like is it something that is recommended to do once a week or do you just use the co-wash method as a normal routine ?(Like 2 or 3 times a week)
The good thing about cowash is that you can do it every day if you want to! I do it 2 times a week, depending how dirty my hair feels:)
Just use it as you would use a shampoo, about 1-3 times a week depending on how often your hair is. Co-wash is basically just shampoo that doesn't damage or lather :)
@@elianna_ecc Cowash is actually not shampoo, it's a conditioner. I use As I Am Coconut Cowash and their leave in conditioner. Both of these are amazing!
@@BlackLabMama I'm aware, I just meant that it's not too different from shampoo, but I see how it reads that way. Thanks though!
People opt for co-washing because they don't want to shampoo too much since shampoo can take out all the natural oils in your hair. I would co-wash based on how often you shampoo for instance if you shampoo on every wash day try to co-wash more and then a cycle can continue between doing both. Sometimes people fully revert to co-washing and not even use shampoo, but I'd mostly recommend doing that if you don't get a lot of build up
+Proud Curly
I have never used kinky curly knot today but the ingredients are awesome :)
Dude I bought freaking silicone conditioner and now I can't return it btw I didn't mean to but I thought it was silicone free. To make things worse it is big do you have any tips to make a silicone conditioner good for hair
Hi there! I just found your page and I'm loving your videos! I feel so inspired to change my hair routine and try co-washing. I was wondering how often do you wash your hair?
Hi! I was my hair once a week (:
Love your sense of humor; I think you should do stand up.
It’s best to use a natural shampoo as well as a natural clarifying shampoo with 100% clean organic ingredients ( for both a regular and clarfying shampoo) when washing hair to get rid of build up. I wouldn’t completely ditch shampoo when I implement co washing in my routine.
My hair is thick and wavy, but I've been cowashing for the last month and I'm liking the results so far!
Hellooo!! I'm loving your wealth of knowledge. I've gone silicone and sulfate free yah! I've been co washing and only shampooing every 3-4 days. I do a weekly over night oil massage/treatment, plopping, tee shirts, etc. However, at first things were just smashing... now i'm seeing build up - again. My curls aren't happy like they used to be. I tend towards very dry skin and i live in Alaska, cold and dry (so i diffuse just so my hair doesn't freeze when I go outside)... I'm currently using shea moisture (its a heavy restorative conditioner both to condition and cowash) should i use a lighter conditioner to co wash? Stop co washing? There are so many options I'm starting to feel a bit lost!?
Thanks so much for all you do! You're truly a blessing and congrats on your engagement!
***** Hi! thanks so much! The same thing happened to me when I first started wearing my hair naturally. I cowashed and it was all good and then I kept getting bad build up so I switched to sulfate free shampoo and Ive been fine since then :) if you want, try using sulfate free shampoo only and see how you like it.
Thanks so much! Do you still not use any post shower products using only a shampoo? How often do you shampoo?
***** Yes I still dont use products after my shower :) I actually dont use conditioner anymore too, I only use sulfate free shampoo. I keep switching shampoos though haha xD At the moment I am using Deep Cleansing Shampoo by Shea Moisture. I shampoo about 2-3x a week :)
CurlyPenny thank you so much for answering all my questions!! What do think of ACV rinses? Have you found them helpful? Did you notice any changes in your curl pattern/texture as it got longer?
***** I tried an ACV rinse once and it worked great as a conditioner, it left my hair soft and shiny. Also, my hair has gotten curlier as it has grown out because I have been trimming off my damage little by little every year so my virgin hair is a lot curlier which Im so happy about :D
hey penny, a while ago i got my hair dyed. a few weeks later I discovered your account and realized my mistake, and I need your expertise to help me bring my hair back! fyi- I had gotten an ombre and it hasn't faded yet tysm:)
when cowashing and following your instructions, does showering with a shirt a necessary step? i'd really like to skip it
hey penny!!! I'm a big fan of deep conditioners like coconut oil and aloe vera etc. Can I use this while co-washing or will the conditioner not be able to wash it away? don't wanna end up a grease ball. love your videos :)
fuckyoloimacat9 for some people it washes out and for some it doesnt, you should try it and see how your hair reacts
Hi Penny! I love your videos! I have just started the curly girl method and I have a question... Now that I have started to wash my hair just with silicon-free conditioner I feel that my curls are not as defined as before and I feel my top layer of hair a bit crunchy. Is it normal? Is it going to get better with time or do I have to change my conditioner?
kathia urbina the whole point of this method is to help you define your hair, so that is really strange. What conditioner are you using?
Hi Penny, I'm new to your channel and absolutely love your videos and tips ! Just wondering if you have used the j.r liggetts shampoo bars and if you think they are good to use :)
hi! yes I have and its great :) super moisturizing
Awesome! I just ordered some, thanks for replying :D
How long have you been growing your hair for? It's so beautiful! :)
thanks you! It has been 3 years :)
Love your videos.
Question: Do you recommend co washing and/or deep conditioning in humid weather?
My hair feels dry, so I deep conditioned, added some lightweight gel and scrunched. Yet when it dried, it became poofy-looking. Help!
Eugenia Maldonado why not try both deep conditioning AND cowashing? Your hair sounds thirsty, moisturize it girllll
Glad I found ur channel....I didn't know about the Silicone thing....no wonder my hair felt so nasty after I tried to Co wash my hair...I have never done it after that....will be trying it out again!! Thank you!!! Ps...your videos are funny!!
whatever you are doing, i just love watching you
ahahah aw thanks
Hi, how often do you wash your hair. I'm struggling to my hair for many years, my hair is so dry, frizzy, messy, broom look and it looks like I'm loosing my curl, and it began to straight but the problem is, it's so wavy and always puffing up, that's why I can't unpony it. But my hair look so nice when it's wet, and I've been applying products, but it will return to disaster, but now Im starting to take care my hair. :)
1:58 and your thumbnail had me weak!
hahaha glad you liked it xD #sexayyyy
have you tried the kinky curly knot today leave in conditioner?? I'm thinking about trying it cuz i have heard good things about :) Just wanted to make sure
I love your videos they really help alot because I have long thick curly hair thanks ☺😊☺😊
It's always said that applying conditioner to your roots would lead to hair fall. Is it true ? ( I have watched all of your videos and the one in which you showed your hair progress ..Dude it's awesome ! My hair are weak and dull and I was not able to decide what things should I to do make them healthy but now your videos actually gave me some hope! Thankyou so much ! Love you sista)
+Astha Bathla it did thin my hair out from hair fall, HOWEVER, everyone is different. Some peoples hair cannot take cowashing while other textures love cowashing. The only way to find out is to do it and see the results you get :)
Love all your videos...cute and funny. Love your hair tips. Thanks much ^_^!
Hi CurlyPenny, thank you for these video's .. so informative and such a pleasant personality..
Nadine Malindi aw youre welcome, thank YOU for watching :D
Hi Penny 😁 have you tried using leave in conditioner and hair gel together? Is it okay? Looking forward for your answer. Thanks!
marites pilapil thats a great idea!
love that you actually got into the shower to show this technique...you are awesome girl 😊
Can you use the Jamaican black castor oil treatment after co-washing with the suave? Or is it to much? Btw plzz do a current favorite hair products (shampoo, conditioner, masques, etc)
Do you think that tightening your hair can mess up the way your curls are? Ex. If I wear tight pony tails all the time do you think my roots would be much less curly then the middle and ends of my hair. Lol can you answer this if you even understand what I mean
It happens to me too.
Alyza Mejias I think wearing tight hairstyles can cause hair loss, but I'm not sure if it'll permanently destroy your curl pattern.
I do this hairstyle for school, it didn’t mess up my curl pattern but it did cause me a lot of hair loss and breakage
Thank u so much i did ur updated routine and am seeing a difference already thanks ilysm ❤️
Hey girl!
I was wondering, have you ever plopped your hair after getting out of the shower? I've been using the plopping method for about six months now, and I love it! Some curlies love it, and others aren't that into it. What's your take on it (if you've ever tried it)?
hi! I have been plopping lately because my hair takes like 6 hours to dry and I dont like when my hair drips onto my homework and textbooks haha. I like it though :3
CurlyPenny I'm the same way! Haha, how long do you do it for? I know it's different for everyone... I tend to get the best results if I plop for 15-20 minutes.
I leave it on for like an hour or two, my hair takes literally like all day to dry :P
CurlyPenny interesting! I've never plopped for that long before. Maybe I'll give it a try the next time I shower! Thanks, love your videos! :)
CurlyPenny . I have a really weird hair type / texture, when I was born it was straight and now its wavy and frizzy, some days I have curls. I know you were born with straight hair and now its curly, and I want to try this too. Would it work with wavy hair? And do you think it would make my hair curly more often if I keep using all your curly hair tips? Sorry, I have a lot of questions lol but you might not even see this.
Hola, ¿entonces dices que es normal si mi cabello al principio se ve grasoso? Traté de hacer esto hace un tiempo, pero por esa razón lo dejé de hacer. ¿Cuánto tiempo tardó tu cabello en acostumbrarse? Saludosss :D
*damn sis your curls get better with age* :) and this video was really helpful!
Hi! I have naturally really bushy hair that may start off a bit curly but then frizz,, I've started trying out the method you posted here, (only started yesterday..) and now I'm wondering how many weeks or days it'll take to start seeing changes? Thanks ! 😊
Can you do a video on curly bang options?
Yes! It will be done in a few weeks
So I been natural for a little less than a year now and I never thought I had heat damage before but I see that some parts of my hair are curly at the root, straight, then goes back to curly at least mid way down. I don't want to cut it off because my hair is a little bit below my shoulders but i don't want to keep heat damage! So what should i do? And if you can please make a video all about heat damage. Thanks penny
The only way to get rid of damage is cutting it off, theres no other way around it. And Ive already made a vid on it :)
How To Recover From Heat & Chemical Damage
When I co-wash, sadly my hair will look greasy at the roots, even though I am using a light conditioner with aloe vera (faith in nature brand) and even though I scrub my scalp with it for at least some minutes :/ what am I doing wrong? I actually always believed that my hair porosity is high because my hair gets wet in like 3 seconds when I put my head under the shower head. I am now using a light shampoo from shea moisture but my hair is still looking very dry and gets frizzy fast so I would love to switch to mainly cowash but with my hair looking just as greasy as before I cannot leave the house anymore xD
Hi there! I read that you don't use conditioner anymore, so what is it that you do when you do wash your hair? Thank you! :)
thanks for the tips i'll try this as soon as possible.... my hair really need this.... my hair is super frizzy i dont know if it will be like your hair soon...
Bless you Penny! My hair has a better curl pattern, is softer and has less frizz! Thank you! ❤
Dhara Stover
Hi CurlyPenny! Your videos are great! I want to ask: I used the same exact VO5 shampoo in your vid to cowash and it left my hair STIFF! Why is that? Do you think maybe I did something wrong while cowashing?
Dari Jael Youre not supposed to use shampoo to cowash... the whole point of cowashing is that you use CONDITIONER to clean your scalp. :p
oops! Did I say shampoo? i meant conditioner...i used the same VO5 conditioner. Sorry!
Dari Jael oooo okay haha, well I used Suave Naturals coconut conditioner in this video :3 but your hair shouldnt have gotten hard. Which vo% one did you use? and what else did you use before and after your shower?
I used the herbal escapes kiwi lime VO5 conditioner. I used nothing before it and afterwards I decided to apply some argon oil deep conditioner since it made my hair so stiff.
Thank you so much for your willingness to help!
Dari Jael no problem :) the bottle says "clarifying conditioner" which explains the dryness. Im pretty sure it contains harsh ingredients in order to make the conditioner clarify, try their moisture milks line that arent meant to clarify.
Curly penny I have problems with frizzy hair and I don't know if I should cowash once a month or once a week plz reply thanxs
I think u should wash your hair every 3/4 days, that's what I do🤔
Hello there, thank you for your lovely videos. I was wondering if you have any advice for curlies who are dealing with hard water ?
+Sarah Al Jufaili
definitely invest into a water filter!
Another great natural conditioner is the Pantene naturals. Very light.
Hi Penny! :)
I watched your 'how to grow long hair' video and you said that it is good to massage your scalp with oil every time before washing. So, I co-wash and every time my scalp is still oily . Any tips?
+Sweetheart cowashing cant wash out oil well, so just shampoo first and then cowash
So I was wondering if this is ok. I wash my hair every other day because it gets frizzy and tangled, I know if I wash it every day it will dry it out. So is it ok if I rewet my hair and maybe put it in a braid?adding no shampoos or conditioners?
I’m so afraid to do this because my hair tends to get greasy a day or two after washing it so I end up shampooing my hair 3-4 times a week.
U can cowash every day if u want to
2 things:
Will cowashing get rid of old product?
And
Will cowashing take the itch away like shampoo washing does?
What is your current shower routine? (For your hair)
I can do a video on that :)
CurlyPenny do a vid on it plz
Hello curly penny could you give me tips for when you are starting to take good care to your hair .
Im looking for a product to put in my hair after i shower to define my curlz. Can you list a few for us that you like. Tx
I like hair curling souffle by Shea Moisture :)
Hey! So I've got like really massively thick and waist length curly hair. A few turn into complete and half spirals and a few into high frequency waves. My hair is too thick to control but yet I manage somehow by crunching and pulling. Can you suggest a method by which I can reduce the crown volume but yet maintain the spirals? Thanks!
P.S. Love your videos!
mannie2754 you can try the curly girl method :D ua-cam.com/video/vwvBdHgl96E/v-deo.html&lc=z13gtppj3oype3fsf23dvpiy5sb2ht4r104
I'm not exactly sure how to ask this without seeming rude (?) idk, but what are your sources for your curly hair related videos?
Your only supposed to wash your scalp with conditioner ? Or can I wash my ends/rest of my hair with it too ? 😋
Dani howard yes you can :)
I thought that applying conditioner to the scalp, weighs the hair down and makes it flat? My hair is long, like slightly shorter than yours and I don't have many layers either. Applying conditioner to the scalp is completely fine?
I only recommend cowashing for those with insanely thirsty and dry hair, super dry hair doesnt get weighed down or greasy from cowashing, it benefits from it. I dont recommend this for people with fine hair like me or we will face more negative effects, like lack of volume.
CurlyPenny Ohhh, yeah I see what you mean. Yeah I remembered hearing that from somewhere a while back, so that's why I was wondering. Thank you :)
does using CoWash make your hair fall out?? and more greasy? that has been my experience but I will look for silicon free conditioner
video for curly hairstyles??? PLEASE :O :P
hey, how to co-wash when you have oil in your hair?? i mean conditioner wouldn't clean up the oil right? please make a video of washing off the oil
nehal cutie conditioner has gentle cleansing properties. If you cowash correctly, you will be able to get the dirt and oils off your scalp just how shampoo would. Cowashing is safe and usually healthier than shampooing.
When cowashing since we are using conditioner does it make any product built up in your hair?! Please write back thanks love you and also can you please do a video of you talking Spanish because I am a Latina as well.😊❤️
+Angie Barberena
Yes it does build up over time so make sure to clarify :)
How many times a week should you cow ash? Same as you would wash?
its all about personal preference :) if you want to cowash everyday go ahead, whatever works for you! it doesnt really matter because cowashing does not strip your hair of its natural oils :)
AHHH THE FIRST TWO SECONDS, I COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING!!!!
How often do you recommend co-washing? I did it every day for about a week and my hair was untamed, frizzy and damaged.... so how often would be healthy for my hair? my curl type is 3a-3b
BeautifulALD Depends on how thirsty your hair is. The more thirsty your hair is the more you should cowash. also, are you sure its silicone free?
Does this make your hair greasy??? I really want to try it but I don't want greasy curls lol but your hair is beautiful
If your hair is prone to greasiness, yes :3
+CurlyPenny thank you so much for commenting back
Do you put the conditioner on the rest of ur hair too or just ur scalp?
im confused do you wash yr hair with co-wash conditioner or a free silicon conditioner
another question what is cream conditioner ???
hi penny? how many times do you repeat co-washing? can it replace completely shampoo? thank you! i follow you from italy! Your advice has been very useful for me! (sorry for my english) Bye..Orny
Ornella Nunneri yes you can completely replace your shampoo with cowashing :)
thank you :)
Can we cowash our hair if there is oil in our scalp already. Like after the pre poo ? And how often should we do ?
My hair goes through weird phases where there is beautiful curls and then sometimes when it feels greasy and oily and frizzy. The thing is I have dry hair but sometimes it feels oily and weighed down. Do you suggest that I should try this method?
I got Lush beer shampoo for chrostmaz, so I have to use it. But Lush products are all natural so hopefully its all good.
Uhhhhh I have heard that you are not supposed to comb your wet hair as the pores open up when the are wet causing the hair to fall. Don't you think that rubbing your hair roughly (is it with too much contact with scalp or just lightly merely touched?) or even bath combing could cause hair fall???
How would you recommend I wash my hair because I use shampoo and conditioner but use certain ones because my hair get greasy quickly but I'm afraid that if I change to non chemical stuff like you have mentioned my hair will become greasy fast and advice c.f. luv your videos by the way xxx
Hi! Your hair WILL get greasy, but we all go through that phase and eventually it goes away and your scalp goes back to normal :)
Oh ok thanks for your help xx
Soo can the curly girl method and co washing make wavy hair more curly ? Or does it just make curly hair healthy ..?
Hello! Is it possible to co wash natural straight as well? Ive had a dry itchy scalp for about a year now and I have not tried co washing yet... Will it help? Thank you!
Hey I have a question What kind of conditioner do you ues? can you make a video about it?
Too much deep conditoning has a "streching" effect on your hair because its too hyrdrated right ? I might of heard it wrong in one of your videos, but will co washing have the same effect ?
Eimy Fernandez yes that is right. And yes cowashing can do the same, so if you cowash make sure to clarify once in a while :)
I have a greasy scalp but doesnt the conditioner make it even more greasier
not everyone, its worth a try
Chuby when I started cowashing I went through a transition, which means my hair was gross and greasy for a while! For some people it lasts a week, and others, a month. If you properly cleanse your scalp with the conditioner it shouldn't be greasy.
What are some ways to do buns with curly hair?
ooo great idea! Ill make a video on that soon :3
CurlyPenny love the video idea! Buns can be tricky with curly hair
yes thats right, no matter what style you do on curly hair it WILL lose definition haha
is co-washing also used for reviving second/third day hair?
im just starting out with having my hair curly and I want to know how often I should co wash my hair is really dry and damaged
I have a question would you co wash your hair everyday or just every time you need to wash your hair? because I only wash mine once a week just to keep my hair from stripping
Pandaabeer443 you can do it as often as you like :) you can do it daily or you can do it only when you wash your hair
IN your other videos u said you dont condition your scalp but this video you say you do it. so which is the correct way?
This is just a tutorial for those who want to know how to cowash. Personally, I never cowash nor do I put conditioner on my scalp because my hair is fine and if I condition my scalp I lose volume. Its not about whats right, its about what works best for you. For me, cowashing does not work well, but for those with severe dryness it works swell :)
CurlyPenny Then how do you wash you hair then?
with sulfate free shampoo
I have curly hair and my hair falls out a lot. Especially when I use conditioner. Is it because it may contain sulfates & silicones? (Haven't checked, will be sure to check tomorrow)
Other than it being frizzy, it's pretty healthy. Would it still be a good idea to put the conditioner on my scalp/roots? My hair grows back pretty quickly (if it didn't I'd probably look like I have no hair)..
I just don't want to rub the conditioner on my scalp/roots and then have my hair fall out more than it already does.
Please help! & thanks!
AileenosaurIsRandom the only way to find out is to try and see what happens :3
I have curly hair but the thing is I can't get rid of my dandruff will you make a video on that.
I'm about to start doing this since my hair is really curly but also dry. Question tho, you don't condition anything else other than your scalp?
Jennely P. Yes you do, you condition your hair as normal, I only showed how to WASH your hair with conditioner
Stupid question. So you wash your hair with cleaning conditioner all over including roots etc and then if you need to extra condition do you use the cleansing conditioner or normal conditioner on the ends? Sorry. So confused
