    Update 6/6/17: If you are considering a resonator delete I also made a before and after video of removing the resonator. The setup in the clips of that video is a muffler delete with an X pipe with and without the resonator. Check it out and feel free to share your thoughts! I'm here to help. Secondary cats are probably next on the list, videos of that to come as well. Thanks for watching.

    • @AlexGray

      No errors or codes with both the muffler delete and resonator delete. I think the primary cats would be the only on to throw codes if removed because of the 02 sensors.

    • @AlexGray
      @AlexGray  7 років тому +14

      Thank you, no all cats were left untouched as well as the resonator. Mufflers were the only thing removed. I wanted to get a video of the underside but the exhaust shop took the car off the lift before I knew it was finished. I will be replacing the resonator with an X pipe soon and will get an underside shot when I make another video.

  • @edcogan6084
    @edcogan6084 7 років тому +1

    Great Video! I took the exhaust cutout route. A little more expensive, but now I have the option of going back to stock with a push of a button. That helps keep the neighbors happy.
    I hope you will let us know if you decide to swap out the x pipe. I would like to hear the difference because I am considering doing that as well.

    • @AlexGray
      @AlexGray  7 років тому +2

      I posted two other videos since this one with the x pipe setup if you'd like to see. Also the resonator removed. It's hard to explain what the x pipe did, it's a very subtle difference in sound. Gave it a little extra "crisp". A lot more drone with the resonator removed which at times I regret doing; might be putting it back on. Nice job on the cutout, did you have to install two of them since there's two pipes that go all the way back?

  • @palemex69
    @palemex69 7 років тому +1

    Great video man, would have loved to seen this to get a better idea of how a muffler delete sounded before I did it on my M5. Regardless I'm glad you were able to capture just how nice the car sounds with just a muffler delete. It makes you want to step on the throttle hard at every opportunity lol! Just a word of advice, be prepared for how loud the car will be without resonators, its ridiculously loud haha. Anyway great video and great color on the car!

    • @AlexGray
      @AlexGray  7 років тому

      Thanks man! Yeah the muffler delete completely changed the car, what an incredible difference in sound. Wow so the resonator makes a big difference huh? Will it increase the drone by a lot inside the cabin? I was actually about to get it done this week but I'm a little hesitant.

    • @palemex69
      @palemex69 7 років тому

      Ya, I would do some research on removing the resonators. They tend to be the main thing preventing drone in the cabin so if you delete them the car will drone. It will also sound great but I personally think it may be too loud. Also, removing the resonators tends to result in a loss of torque, as the resonators provide back pressure in the exhaust. Not sure how significant the loss is though. Depends on what you want for your car, but either way it still sounds incredible.

  • @dspada67
    @dspada67 6 років тому

    Hi from Australia, sounds great. Is there enough nice sound with windows up or you recommend further exhaust work . I want to remove primary cats and put test pipes in. Do you think that would add a little more drama? Thx

    • @AlexGray
      @AlexGray  6 років тому

      With the windows up its still fairly quiet. I removed the resonator after and that made it much louder. But I have no experience removing the primary cats but I'm sure that would be the same effect except then you may not be able to pass emissions.

      @@AlexGray you won't get tired of it buddy. I muffler delete all my cars now. My Ford FGX XR8 Sprint has 3 mufflers OEM... WTF??? Deleted the 2 smaller ones and with a CAI, Made an extra 20hp at the wheels.

  • @dspada67
    @dspada67 6 років тому

    Thx for the reply mate. Emissions not super strict here. With the res out did it drone at all ? Sounds like the tone much the same but a little more raspy. I have done a lot of Home work about headers , just not sure if it’s worth the money . Seams that test pipes give a good HP gain as well. Some say infinity are the best as they are equal length and retain factory sound as Evolve , super sprint, AAW are not and sound different, not as V10 howl as the stock. Have you heard any of these in real life?

    • @AlexGray

      Only the sound changed. Performance didn't change, and removing the mufflers wont mess with any computer codes. There are no sensors on the mufflers, only the cats have o2 sensors in which if you removed those then you would probably get error lights. Those can be removed with a custom tune.

In p500 in the S6 shift setting the shifts are too fast to let off the gas. But I recently read that you don't have to let off the gas ever between shifts, some people do and some people don't. I didn't notice a difference. However it does save about 70lbs of weight. I'm sure it does a little but the difference in efficiency is probably evened out with how much more often I give it harder throttle due to the amazing sound.

      is it hard to maintain this E60? I'm lookin forward to getting a Fresh one...that wasn't pre owned

    • @AlexGray
      @AlexGray  7 років тому +4

      It's not particularly hard, you can change the oil yourself. But it takes about 9 quarts I believe so it's relatively more expensive than a regular car. Brakes can also be done yourself. Just takes patience, forums, and UA-cam videos. Although the smg pump (it's weak point) is not something that can be done yourself and is an expensive fix. Buying one that was well taken care of should eliminate most issues that you hear people complaining about on forums.

      Yeah your name looks familiar. The 335 can be easily modded to be faster than the M5. I think a tune, intake, and exhaust is all it takes. Dissapointing for the M owners but good for 335 owners. They do have water pump problems though and a few other issues, but maintenance and repairs will be a good bit less considering the 4 less cylinders over the M5.

      Haha this video was nothing, the straight pipes video I made recently was full throttle like 90% of the video, definitely used a lot of gas in that one haha.

    I put my mufflers back on my e60 m5 it was too droney, if your gonna do it, do it right and install some high flow mufflers, or keep the stock mufflers and do a cutout exhaust to open and close electronically, the muffler delete droned too much, believe my words and save youll save some money

      Try to go 2008 and newer. Some of the earlier models are known to be more problematic than the 08 and up. They revised some things that year both cosmetically and mechanically (from what I've heard). If you get a manual, you'll avoid any smg hydraulic pump issues. If you get one with smg, check it's history to see if the smg pump was replaced. If not, try to get a warranty or have several thousand saved up on the side just incase. Rod bearings are also something to be aware of but that isn't until well over 100k miles depending how it was driven. Overall, I think the most important factor is finding one that has been well maintained. Oil changes every 5k and fluids changed routinely. Hope this helps.

    • @AlexGray

      Start off with a muffler delete first. It will be a lot louder than the video makes it sound.

    God i cant believe there's one of these for so cheap with only 50k miles near me. Problem is i cant even imagine what the repair costs of that v10 engine or anything else in the 2006 car is. I heard it can be like 9k-12k to repair LOL. only thing keeping me from buying it.

    • @AlexGray
      @AlexGray  7 років тому +2

      Yeah you can pick up an 06 for pretty cheap nowadays but they tend to have the most issues. 08+ were known to be a lot more reliable after revising a few kinks. I've had zero issues with mine in the past 11,000 miles and know several others personally that can say the same with theirs with more mileage. I was afraid of expensive repairs too so I made sure to find one that was well maintained its whole life. If you can find a manual one that would automatically eliminate the M5's most common issue: the smg hydraulic pump.

      One of the most important things since one may have no idea how the previous owners treated the car get the rod bearings done for a piece of mind and do proper oil changes along with other preventative maintenance items. I just did my rod bearings. They were not bad but I’m glad I changed them. More changes coming before any upgrades.

      I was too, but after 10,000 miles I've only had to change the oil and did a brake fluid flush. I'm still under $500 in maintenance so far.

    Fun fact, an Inline-4 can sound like a V8 that has no exhaust crossover. Kinda like how my Passat sounds almost like an M5 that doesn't have an X-pipe. Its like how a Murcielago sounds like two Inline-6s revving in perfect sync.
