Moon lent itself to a lot of unique situations and evolving stories. One of my friends and I’s favorite strategies was to hack the ak74u spot so that PaPed ammo was 600 points and then all run mini trains in the area next to it, however we had neglected the excavator in one match. We had teleported back to earth for someone to pack their guns and upon teleporting back we realized we were stuck in spawn and therefore cutoff from our ammo source. We managed to push through a bit of the round but between minimal ammo and frequent downs it came down to my buddy and I. In a bid of desperation he threw a QED that ended up teleporting me to the biodome, saving the game with me as the only survivor of the round to spawn everyone else in as nightmare started playing. It was a great moment that always comes to mind when I think of the map. What a great map.

4:04 it’s even worth mentioning that DE and Bo3’s version of Moon didn’t have the same type of gravity system. It was more or less a Mod of the game’s jetpack thrusters. There was no real momentum and zombie animations were more or less “scripted to look Zero G”
This is an amazing point and I really wish I’d thought about it, the difference is night and day with BO3 where you have to come to a complete stop after every bounce, it’s barely even zero-G so much as it is just a couple slightly floaty, individual jumps one after the other

I still don't know why in the Bo3 version they changed the moon base into a nazi facility. That's part of why it's way too colorful, with all the added red and iron crosses.
Moon in BO3 sucks IMO. The gravity feels off, and the opening segment when playing solo is way harder than it was in BO1, just getting to the moon often takes several attempts if you have no team mates

Dude, you have an amazing ability to analyse and articulate the things that made these maps great. With the state of Zombies in the past 5 years, it's easy to forget how good things really were. Pioneering, innovative yet familiar. A combination of real-world figures and elements with fiction. It's a shame that it took years of decline for people to be able to reflect and appreciate how good Black Ops 1 maps really were.
I think moon is actually the scariest map because of its sound design. Hearing that loud beep in area 51, as zombies started infinitely rushing at you would scare the lights out of me the first time I played.
I've always felt that Moon was and still is the scariest zombies map. World at War maps were scary in their own right, especially Verrückt, but Moon is entirely something else. First and foremost, you're on the moon. If you're a solo player, which I am, then you're always alone with an infinite horde of zombies, but to be alone with them on the moon? To look out at the vast expanse of the universe, seeing a home that is almost entirely overrun by zombies or the vast, potentially infinite void of space? Familiarity with something is what makes scary things less scary, but for me, there is no becoming familiar with Moon. Sure, I know the map. I know where everything is, I know where to train, and I know the EE steps, but the setting always, without a doubt, instills in me a wonderful sense of existential dread. Sure, I can teleport back to Groom Lake, only to again be met with an infinite horde of zombies in a much smaller area, but I eventually need to return to the moon. And when I finally succumb to the horde, I fall to the ground and take one last look out at the universe before I drift away into nonexistence. Moon is beautifully horrifying and poetic, and it will forever be my favorite zombies map.
I started zombies at the end of WaW’s cycle and I remember playing zombies to death. The way Moon dropped being on its own and just going balls to the wall, at the time it felt like they were seeing if this game mode should continue. I say this because just so much was new and different and felt like they were doing as much as they could with their potentially final map ever if this flopped. Obviously it didn’t, but since I didn’t do EEs I didn’t know of the story at the time so to me that’s what this map felt like and I’ll hold it dearly because of it’s experimentation and absolute blast of an experience with the homies
Your content has been an honest breath of fresh air. It's starting to open my eyes on how this isn't 10 years ago. And now it's time I actually try to exapirence the newer stuff instead of comparing it to my most noticable video game memories. Thank you
Thank you. Thank you so much. Moon has quickly become one of my favourite maps of all time. Its so underrated and its wonder weapon is my favourite of all time. I just wish I had bo1 when moon came out. I'm not a 90s kid. And my parents hated games so I missed out on alot. I discovered it through bo3 chronicles. Man I love it so much. I wish I had someone to do the easter egg with
One of my favorite gaming memories ever was when Moon first came out. I got invited to a party where a guy had Shang EE done and we did the whole Moon EE together. It blew my mind when we blew up the Earth and he became Samantha.
I just got blessed by the algorithm on a couple videos, I still think it’s just luck, so I really appreciate you saying that! It’s awesome hear you liked them, thanks so much!
I will always see Moon as a great map. BO1 is my all time favourite COD. Back then (and now in retrospect) we kinda knew we would never have it as good as BO1 had been. Moon had it all. Massive EE, fun wonder weapon, one of the best pieces of utility with the hacker, unique challenges with the spawn room records and the grand scale of going between Area 51 and the Moon. I remember doing the easter egg and seeing the rockets blast off towards the Earth. One of my friends even joked about disconnecting and crashing the game because he was the host. I went crazy and basically begged him not to because we worked so hard to get that sweet 100G. I'm really enjoying your zombies essays. You definitely got a new subscriber.
I want to point out that in terms of public lobbies, it was immensely easier to get everyone onto the teleporter compared to Shangri-La asking people to split off in different directions of the map. As stubborn as Call of Duty players are, when someone booked it to the teleporter it was pretty clear what they wanted to do. It's the difference between 1-step and like 4-steps to get to the Pack-A-Punch.
Interesting video. Pumped so many hours into black ops and zombies back in the day. Haven’t played this may for several years. Forgot about most of these things so thanks!

I still play moon, favorite map, Highest I got was round 44, I also managed to build the computer for the Easter egg, but I didn’t have the vrill device
I’ll never forget waking up early asf on a school day, after waiting two days for this dlc to download cause my internet was such ass, and getting the wonder weapon first time ever hitting the box, so fecking nostalgic
Moon feel like the "cult classic" of zombie maps. A good Easter egg with new storyline as well. It felt like moon took everything the devs learned and challenged the players. Moon still one of the most fun maps.
It’s April 1, 2023. Seven years after the release of Bo3. I just did the Shangri La EE with randoms I met on bo3 subreddit. I finally have all bo3 trophies. It is possible for anyone feeling like they don’t have a good group to complete the ee.
I’ve always felt as if moon was a map made with love to zombies players, it’s the map I run to when I open BO1 and BO3 alike,if I felt like just doing a no man’s land challenge I can, and Easter egg run to play as Samantha and the nice blown up earth scenery? Sure! It has so many different ways of playing, it was crafted perfectly and I think that is a remaster I don’t mind taking over and over and over again like how nuketown and shipment is in every cod now a days, the loading screen music is so cool I’ll never forget the first day I heard it when resurrection released. I was so excited to see no man’s land in classified in BO4 that was awesome. Let me stop ranting I just love moon, thank you for giving it the praise it deserves
When this map came out, i was 13 years old and grinded the map for the whole weekend even tho i remember there was Nuketown 24/7 double xp weekend wich i usually always played. I really miss those times haha. Moon is still my Top 5 zombiemap of all time, i really got happy after it became remastered for BO3 in the Chronicles DLC. Wish they also remastered Mob of the Dead and Call of the Dead.
moon came out when i was 9, and my favorite aspect of the map at the time was the QED's, i would restart my game just to make sure i got them early on, and then i'd make my entire setup using them, it's too bad they were nerfed in BO3, but it makes sense with maxammo/reigndrops gobble gums. I love every black ops zombies map, but moon has a special place in my heart
Regarding Area 51 rewarding players who stayed there a while, Moon was and is my favorite map, and one of my favorite challenges still is to stay there until I can Pack-a-Punch the M1911. Usually that’s by knifing as many zombies as I can until the siren starts, then training them up and using the two grenades you get to make a bunch of crawlers to slowly knife away at for points, buying Juggernog as soon as possible before grinding away with the few bullets you get and knifing until I have 5000 points to get Mustang and Sally. It’s then so satisfying to use them to farm even more points, finally taking the teleporter to the Moon with around 10-12,000 points. Plus, you can then buy your way through the map back to the teleporter, use the box a few times to get two decent guns, then return to Earth to wrack up 20 to 40,000 more points with those guns + Pack-a-Punch depending on what the box gave you, letting you open the entire map and get basically any weapons and perks you want to be fully set up on round One. I still remember the first time I thought to try and do that after finally managing to get enough points for Juggernog for the first time before teleporting, thinking how impossible it would be to get that many points with so few resources, and how many times I had to try again and again, figuring out the most optimal times to use grenades to make crawlers, constantly getting trapped by the agile dogs, and how incredibly satisfying it was to succeed for the first time. --- Of course, it’s so satisfying because it was so difficult and took quite a bit of training/skill and time. To throw shade at BO3, there you can start additionally with the RK5, full ammo for the M1911, and access to many GobbleGums that completely trivialize it.
This will be a bit of an unpopular opinion, but this map is where zombies peaked. The "love letter" aspect is on point, this map was for fans and we loved it despite it's flaws. The developers knew this however and tried to capture more lightning in a bottle as the series progressed. This mentality inadvertently alienated new players as well as long term casual players who just wanted good ol fashion zombie killing. The Easter Eggs, which turned into Main Quests became very complicated, and unfortunately started to bleed into the natural progression of the map as opposed to a separate entity, and more importantly should remain optional. Zetsubou is possibly the best example to use as most of the "set-up" for the map involved the Main Easter Egg to some capacity. I'll focus on the wonder weapon for zetsubou which involved many vague steps, where the next map Gorod's wonder weapon was simply a mystery box spin away. This is just one person's opinion however. I haven't played Vanguard and barely touched Cold War zombies (relatively speaking to all previous zombies titles, including non Treyarch games). This comment may be fairly pointless but I still felt compelled to say it. Happy zombie hunting everyone.
Oh man I loved this map. I still play it on bo3. To me I think it’s the most fun map to play even with garbage random people online. Except the beginning sometimes sucks when people like to run around. It is definitely fun to play though.
Moon is still my favorite map. I loved when zombies was all sci-fi before it got all fantasy and shit and to me Moon is the ultimate sci-fi zombies map, and I really wish they used that area 51 concept more. Having a place to stack up points while not actually progressing the game is so unique and its weird they abandoned it right after.
This was my first Easter egg I completed & it was also my first dlc my mom purchased it meant a lot because we wasn’t financially well off so I never as a kid got to play anything other than the base game 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 moon always has a special place in my heart… wow I remember keeping up on the zombie storyline through UA-cam.
I wish you would have shown that after you destroy the "earth" at the end of the easter egg and then teleport back to "earth" if you look at the top right of the hanger coming from PaP you can see the "earth" that was destroyed in the sky bringing in the question what did you destroy or where are you currently?
I remember playing this map to get the easter egg achievement. We got to the end and where waiting for the achievement. For some reason i lagged out and everyone but me got the achievement. Still salty.
Moon was actually goated, but since it came out at the end of Blops it wasnt played as much as it should have been. Side note this was the last game to incentivize team coordination to this degree because this was the point where people began to move away from using in game voice chat as much, and we would later see as the dominate state of gaming from the xbox one where it fully took over until the present day
Probably the most fun and forward thinking zombies map of all time. If you compare kino to moon, this is the biggest jump in content and new features in any of the life cycles of the other titles. Kino feels extremely barebones compared to moon. Granted, there is fun in the simplicity of kino but Moon really set the stage for how all zombies maps were expected to be going forward. The age of one dimensional maps was over and there was no going back to a simple formula.
Alright I guess you are a Moon fan, but I hope the things you said at 11:18 are also applied to your Tranzit video I'm getting recommended, and not just shitting on the map because its Tranzit (it deserves lots of criticism tho.) The problem I have with this map is how absolutely miserable the RNG makes you feel when you are playing it. First of all, toss coin between getting Jug or Speed Cola, and how the new mechanics are not fun at all, because they suck or are an RNGfest. First of all, the Astronaut completely sucks. Gets one of your perks, which can be a pain in the ass if its Jug or Speed Cola, because you have to coin toss again, only once every round lmao. But you are prob thinking: well just kill the guy and, like in previous maps, you will get a reward after killing the zombie boss, right? Nah, the Astronaut doesnt give you shit. Kino had Nova crawlers, not exactly a boss map but easy to kill and avoidable with certain strats. Five had the Pentagon Thief, reward and skips a round. Think of all the maps BO1 has, every boss enemy or special enemy (idc about the name) gives you very good rewards. The Astronaut doesnt give you shit, and thats why I pray for the excavator to come early to the specific tunnel where you can trap his sorry ass. Ideally early, because later in the game its much more complicated. Lots of not fun RNG. And the hacker rewards are actually the most maddening thing to me. It gives you points. Why this lame reward? Because the Moon box is the most unsufferable piece of shit I've ever seen. You want the Gersh device because makes the Excavators shut down easy af and the Wave Gun. And I know this is personal experience, but getting both of them relatively early is impossible. And you actually need the Wave Gun to not die while you are moving through the corridors, no other gun will save you in BO1. Yes, you can hack the drops with the Hacker, thank God it has an actually crazy good feature. QEDs? More RNG. Very cool and a good idea, but more RNG and is probably the culprit of the box luck being so shit. Setting is amazing, but I didnt expect that a map on the freaking moon would be my least liked map of BO1. I guess its a cool, awesome map for casuals, but when you are trying to get a game going to reach some high-ish round, the game can be an absolute bitch if its feeling like it. And dont dare to take a down man. You will have to go to Earth twice bc Speed Cola is necessary to reload the Wave Gun at a decent speed. And the low gravity, I guess its fun? Not really my cup of tea though. Will say one thing: training in the Biodome is relaxing and the WR strat of training at the first area of the moon looks hard but really fun and rewarding. Just be careful and dont accidentally get the drop when you are trying to hack it!
This map used to always creep me out the most. Looking down into those huge pits where the rockets are…. Gives me chills just thinking about it lol. Agoraphobia maybe?

I started zombies at the end of WaW’s cycle and I remember playing zombies to death. The way Moon dropped being on its own and just going balls to the wall, at the time it felt like they were seeing if this game mode should continue. I say this because just so much was new and different and felt like they were doing as much as they could with their potentially final map ever if this flopped. Obviously it didn’t, but since I didn’t do EEs I didn’t know of the story at the time so to me that’s what this map felt like and I’ll hold it dearly because of it’s experimentation and absolute blast of an experience with the homies
10:18 just made me absolutely livid 😒
Killed myself the second I finished getting that footage, because I’d rather die than not train in biodome
I wish I had someone to do the easter egg with
you can do the moon ee solo now on bo3
@@legoghostyoda you can but Where's the fun in that? Zombies is meant to be co op and I enjoy it the most that way. I appreciate the info tho
One of my favorite gaming memories ever was when Moon first came out. I got invited to a party where a guy had Shang EE done and we did the whole Moon EE together. It blew my mind when we blew up the Earth and he became Samantha.
I know you get a ton of these comments but i just binged all your videos and wow they are really well made. Fantastic work man 👍
I just got blessed by the algorithm on a couple videos, I still think it’s just luck, so I really appreciate you saying that! It’s awesome hear you liked them, thanks so much!
I love moon so much. Playing it even now brings so much nostalgia
Always loved how the teleported on earth is in Hangar 18, an obvious Megadeth reference. Really love the metal influence in the zombies maps.
Interesting video. Pumped so many hours into black ops and zombies back in the day. Haven’t played this may for several years. Forgot about most of these things so thanks!
The astronaut ruined moon for me. It was impossible to even get set up almost all the time
I hate to break it to you but. Git gud
Oh man the gamer pictures you could earn I forgot about that D:
Ill be honest the idea of reviewing zombies maps is an overplayed video format but for some reason I have found myself going through all of yours, I dont know what it is particuarly but keep up the good work man much love.
WOW MAN. I just recently found your channel and these retrospectives are some of the best i’ve ever seen. The fact that you don’t have more subscribers is baffling. Keep it up, because you definitely just earned a new one
I still play moon, favorite map, Highest I got was round 44, I also managed to build the computer for the Easter egg, but I didn’t have the vrill device
Underrated UA-camr
It's crazy because odds are a lot of us have played together and have no idea.
I’ll never forget waking up early asf on a school day, after waiting two days for this dlc to download cause my internet was such ass, and getting the wonder weapon first time ever hitting the box, so fecking nostalgic
Why am I barely noticing that Bowie know right there 😶
This was my favorite map. Over 500 attempts at the easter egg. Did finally do it, and damn was it awesome. Lol
Moon feel like the "cult classic" of zombie maps. A good Easter egg with new storyline as well. It felt like moon took everything the devs learned and challenged the players. Moon still one of the most fun maps.
Keep up the amazing content
It’s April 1, 2023. Seven years after the release of Bo3. I just did the Shangri La EE with randoms I met on bo3 subreddit. I finally have all bo3 trophies. It is possible for anyone feeling like they don’t have a good group to complete the ee.
This video along with your die rise video makes me really wish we saw the low gravity used on that map, at the very least a setting we could turn on
BO1 was such a good game…god I miss those days
Liberty Falls: A Hate Letter to Zombies
Liberty Balls...treyarch lost the plot
Terminus is fun tho but I agree it’s nowhere near BO1… but it is better than Cold War and MW3!
And then they returned with a bus 😅
over 10 years later, and I just found out that nightmare was on this map.
I legit didn't know...
There was a glitch where everyone could get the hacker device if everyone pressed the button at the same time.
Let me stop ranting I just love moon, thank you for giving it the praise it deserves
bruh Mule Kick forever changed the meta and the fact they made it retroactive to older maps 💯💯🙏🏻🙏🏻
Moon is so great. this mans spittin
---
Of course, it’s so satisfying because it was so difficult and took quite a bit of training/skill and time. To throw shade at BO3, there you can start additionally with the RK5, full ammo for the M1911, and access to many GobbleGums that completely trivialize it.
I really want a stand-alone zombies game
Idk if anyone's said this but you can hack the pack of punch and lock the doors so if you needed to pap your guns but don't want to risk going down
Watch the video
Anyone else ever throw a black hole grenade at the Spaceman and he disappears…
Only to come back moonwalking and sprinting!?
I just did this maps Easter egg 4 days ago one of the most cinematic purely for no cut scene
I miss seeing my old friends names on the astronaut, some haven’t been on in a while or haven’t played during the good old days😢
*gamer picture unlocked*
… my god… I’ve forgotten.
What all do you want cover other than zombies. Your really good.
Gained a subscriber mate, been playing loads of moon recently keep it up 👍🏻
Oh man I loved this map.
I'm still salty that Area 51 wasn't the final zombies map for BO1, they could have kept moon for the 1st zombies map of BO2 instead
U earned a new sub and gonna watch your other videos!
Nice vid bro i watched the whole vid and left a 👍
How is the cage closing like that at 11:50 ?
Bring the Hacker to Area 51 and hack the Pack-a-Punch machine, it gives you some safe time to upgrade a couple guns!
@@whitecliffgames what the fuckkk, I've done the we like 15 times and never knew that
The beeb is the round counter in A51
Bro should have switched his commando instead of mustang and sally
i miss moon so much man
Will you ever make more of these?
He has other channels.
10:12 until alpha omega lmao
Yeah, I genuinely like BO4 a lot, but some of those Pack-a-Punch systems are goofy
Ahhh back when zombies was amazing the recent zombies have been ass..activision has milked it dry
7:03 bro Rezurrection came out in 2011 we only had to wait another year for BO2
this is a great video man ❤
The best song on moon was when you died in the later 20's and nightmare would play.
I wish you would have shown that after you destroy the "earth" at the end of the easter egg and then teleport back to "earth" if you look at the top right of the hanger coming from PaP you can see the "earth" that was destroyed in the sky bringing in the question what did you destroy or where are you currently?
Moon my beloved
I remember playing this map to get the easter egg achievement. We got to the end and where waiting for the achievement. For some reason i lagged out and everyone but me got the achievement. Still salty.
Moon was actually goated, but since it came out at the end of Blops it wasnt played as much as it should have been. Side note this was the last game to incentivize team coordination to this degree because this was the point where people began to move away from using in game voice chat as much, and we would later see as the dominate state of gaming from the xbox one where it fully took over until the present day
My dumbass thought you were gonna talk about the Moon DS game 😞
Best map ever
Probably the most fun and forward thinking zombies map of all time. If you compare kino to moon, this is the biggest jump in content and new features in any of the life cycles of the other titles. Kino feels extremely barebones compared to moon. Granted, there is fun in the simplicity of kino but Moon really set the stage for how all zombies maps were expected to be going forward. The age of one dimensional maps was over and there was no going back to a simple formula.

Alright I guess you are a Moon fan, but I hope the things you said at 11:18 are also applied to your Tranzit video I'm getting recommended, and not just shitting on the map because its Tranzit (it deserves lots of criticism tho.)
The problem I have with this map is how absolutely miserable the RNG makes you feel when you are playing it.
@young man James Too many sentences to read for your little brain or what.
FINALLY someone says this. moon is the best map. my opinion
I loved moon but it could be a pain in the ass sometimes
I played moon probably 50 times and some how never used that hacking device unless I just can’t remember 😂
This map used to always creep me out the most. Looking down into those huge pits where the rockets are…. Gives me chills just thinking about it lol. Agoraphobia maybe?
