FREDOLAY hey dude, wanted to update you. I was able to have all of my followers transferred over to my new profile by going directly to Spotify and requesting it. It was much easier than I thought it would be. So now we’re really back in business!
@@tomdupreeiii Yo, I wanted to ask how did you get this done? I watch all ur vids, great content! Syntax if you’re just trying to change the case of your name and not the spelling, that falls under a formatting issue and any distributor should be able to help you change that by submitting a metadata request to stores. If you’re trying to change the spelling (or change your name entirely) both Amuse and routenote will let you do this. You’ll have to transfer your entire catalog over to them and then delete it from your current distributor before initiating the change. From there, it’s a metadata change submitted to stores again.
@@tomdupreeiii Wow :OO is that true?!?!? That actually is incredible, its very annoying how most distributors always try to adjust my caps and lower cases :/ Thanks! Imma email my distributor!
Hey! Did you ever get a reply from Distrokid? How did you do it when you had released some songs on Distro and some others on amuse? I want to change my name as well, but I have also released music with two different distributors, so not really sure how to go about it..
Hello Sir, i requested a Name Change on Spotify and they created a new Page with the new name. The problem is that the new profile is blank, how do i claim it from Spotify to edit the new Artist Page? Because Distrokid doesn't allow you to claim 2 Artist Accounts.
If I remember correctly, it took about two weeks for me. If you only have three songs and not many streams or followers or anything, I'd probably just create a new profile and delete the existing one. Cleaner and simpler.
Hi Tom, I asked spotify about spotify curator playlist and I wonder when changing name if my song will be lost from curators list, I want to confirm that it wont. Do you know anything about curators list? I asked spotify and I actually didnt get exactly what they mention, this is the message “If you request a metadata update it won't affect your track submission. But if you change the order of your track, a different song will appear to our editors and they might pitch a different song. If you plan to remove the main artist who pitched the track, that same track would disappear from our editors' dashboard. We always recommend checking the details of your release from the Home tab in Spotify for Artists to ensure nothing's changed even after you request a metadata update. Let us know if anything else comes up! If we can help with anything else, just let us know.” If I change name ,will track order change? If anyone has experience about curators list ,please help, cheers
love the content and how you explained the whole process ! i have just released my debut single and im thinking about changing my artist name. I'd like to know if it worked for Apple Music, cause they said a big NO but how did that change after your release?
Hey thanks so much for watching! I’m really happy you found the video helpful. Yes, Apple Music changed without any problems. In fact, the only place that had an issue was Napster. Everything else went smoothly. Good luck with the name change!
Yes it will! My name was changed on all major platforms with the exception of Napster. But it's Napster, so I can't say I'm too worried about that one. Plus, I'm sure I will be able to get it sorted out eventually. Thanks for watching!
Hey Tom, did those 350 followers ever move over to the new page? and what about monthly listeners, just wondering. btw i just moved my entire catalog to amuse and it linked successfully. just put in for the name change now.
Dude, that's awesome! Glad the first steps have gone well for you. Yes, all my followers moved, though I had to contact Spotify to make it happen (they were super easy about it). And all the listeners reset, but they built back up within the first month. Good luck with the rest of the process!
@@Ozumi404 no problems with UA-cam and all my playlist placements carried over. Also I contacted Spotify to move my followers over and they did within a couple days
Hey Tom ! So you were able to successfully transfer all your followers? I’m currently in this name change bind now and I don’t want to lose almost 2k followers. That’s a hard pill to swallow so that’s the only thing stopping me from the change but if that transfers I’m all for it.
I was! They didn’t automatically transfer for me at first. I’ve heard of others having them port over without having to do anything. But I contacted Spotify and they were happy to help. They moved them over for me. So if they don’t transfer automatically, Spotify will take care of it for you!
You can find the release ID in the Amuse app. Select the release you want to reference on the main page to bring it up individually. Once there, scroll to the bottom and you will see a field labeled "release ID". Simply touch the yellow number ID and it will copy to your clipboard so you can easily paste it in the related field on your submission request. Good question! Thanks for watching!
MXM it works for most stores. I only had a couple that gave me issues but they eventually got fixed. The big ones - Spotify, Apple, Tidal, Amazon - were all fine.
when i try to change artist name through RouteNote, i have to update each release and enter a new artist name. as the new artist name doesn't exist, it asks me if i want to open a new artist profile. should i just do one song and wait for the new artist profile to be opened, so i can choose it for the other releases without instructing routenote to open a new artist profile on each release?
Right now what i did is i created a new artist profile on amuse and i just re submitted all my realeses to the new artist profile with the same ISRC and they will be live in 14 days. Do u think ill lose my plays? I changed my name from Lil Zaker to King Zaker
If you changed your name before re-uploading your songs, yes, you’ll probably lose your plays. But I’m not positive on that. I re-uploaded under my old name and then request the name change through support. I’m interested to see how it pans out doing it your way.
@@tomdupreeiii I just created a new artist profile in amuse and re uploaded all may realeses from the other profile to the new one with the same ISRC code but i dont know if im gonna lose plays
@@christophermora9122 let me know how things pan out once everything goes live. I’m really curious to see if it all connects and you get to keep your streams, etc.
You can love your song to a new service without deleting it first. It will appear as a duplicate on the same artist name and then you can delete the old once the new is up. That way you don’t lose your data.
Hi! Why didn't you claim your official artist channel And, im planning to change my artist name but i already merge the topic channel of my old name. Do you think its possible to unmerge the topic channel so i could link it to the new one?
I honestly just haven’t gotten around to it. It hasn’t been too much of a priority to claim it yet. I’m sure you could probably get it unmerged but I’d imagine you’ll have to go through support on UA-cam and possibly your distributor too. But I’m jot positive how that might work.
Okay so I want to change my name but I’m using distro kid. I have musician plus so if I want to create a new profile and name for myself all I have to do is put the new songs under a new name?
Yep, that's exactly it! Keep in mind none of your previous releases will appear under your new name, but if that's not an issue, you can just start releasing with a new artist name from here on out and you'll be good to go! Good question!
How long did it take for you to be able to edit the new artist profile .. I changed it about 2 or 3 weeks and I still don’t have access to make any changes on the new artist profile
@@tomdupreeiii so I used distrokid for all of my music but this time I got to upload all my music again but using amuse before attempting to change my name? Is that right or it doesn’t matter?
@@silvaraps DistroKid recently announced that they may start honoring name changes, so you might want to check with them first. If they still won’t, you’ll need to move your catalog over to Amuse and request your name change from them.
Hey bro I’ve been having issues with streaming platforms throwing my name under another artist with the same name I’ve been thinking about changing my name not completely still using it but adding like a acronym or something to it that way it won’t be too much confusion I’ve been using United masters for distribution Spotify and Apple Music has fixed it besides other platforms Will my music be under my new name ? Just wanna know before I make this move
This sounds but more complex than most. If you’re just changing the formatting of your name, it will stay under the same profile. But if you’re changing any spelling or punctuation or anything like that you’ll probably end up having to “officially” change your artist name and create a new profile.
I took your video as a guide and did it as you did: I had my tracks uploaded on DistroKid. Since DistroKid does not allow name changes, I switched to amuse. I changed my Artist name there and switched now back to DistroKid again. So I wanted to re-upload my tracks, with the new Artist name on DistroKid. But when I tried it, DistroKid gave me the Following message: Streaming services rejected this audio because it's already been uploaded, but with a different song title or artist name: • You & I by Mindblowerz The track isn’t online as Mindblowerz anywhere. So I wanted to ask you, how you could “fix” this… I couldn’t find the answer in your Video. Thanks!!!!!
Man, I'm sorry you're running into this snag. I experienced the exact same thing and, unfortunately, I don't have a concrete answer yet. I'm hoping that the metadata may purge once enough time goes by, but I just don't know for sure. I plan to keep testing it to see if that ends up being the case. Sorry I don't have more info yet. This isn't an issue I foresaw when I made the video.
@@tomdupreeiii Hmmm... shiiittttt.. Anyways, thank you so much for the video! It's still great that there is the oppertunity to change the artist name. I will try to fix this. I'm a 100% sure there is a way... because the old track is already on spotify with the changed metadata... so i think it's just a policy of distrokid. Because how could it be on spotify with changed metadata if stores don't allow it? 😂😂
If it's only your first release, I would just delete it and re-upload using the correct spelling of your name. I had a similar issue with my very first release. I ended up just deleting it and re-uploading. It didn't have any negative impact in the long run and was the easiest way to handle it. A bit frustrating but a relatively easy fix!
@@tomdupreeiii How can I do that, distrokid told me this "Streaming services won't let you upload it again, unless you use the exact same artist name and metadata."
@Andre Orlino if that’s the case then I might suggest seeing if you have luck getting it to upload through another distributor just as a test. Or perhaps if you give it enough time, DK May allow you to do it. I don’t know if there is a certain window of time where the metadata will finally get pulled if you’ve had the song down long enough.
@@tomdupreeiii hello, distrokid gave me another free slot to make a new artist. Do you think I should delete now the previous release and upload my previous release to the new artist name. Thanks a lot for the help, I appreciated it
Great information Tom. I will follow up. I'm still in the early stages of my three profiles, and I want to make it simpler by having only ONE Spotify For Artist Profile. Thanks so much!
Hey Tom I Requested To Amuse For Changing My Name And They Accepted But Now My UA-cam Official Artist Channel Cannot Getting Good Views Compared To Before
It sounds like that's probably due to the fact that your fans haven't all learned about the name change yet. It can take time to build your traffic back up after a name change. You're completely rebranding at the highest level, so see how things play out for the next several months.
Man, that’s a bummer. Yeah, that’s exactly what I did. I uploaded all of my existing releases through Amuse, making sure to use all of the exact metadata and artwork. Once they appeared duplicated in stores, I removed everything from DistroKid and then prompted the name change after that. I wanted to make sure everything was consolidated in the same place. Hope that helps!

This makes it so I can't manage my Spotify Artist account for my new name (Kem). I'm very hopeless about this and I'm considering starting a new Spotify account. Does someone know how I can fix this?
good sir thanks for the video I have been swimming in the waters of changing my artist name and am having a bit of a time getting my new Spotify for artists started. How have you made a new Spotify for artists? thanks for all the great videos.
You can claim your SFA profile via DistroKid if you use them to distribute your music. If not, you should be able to simply visit artists.spotify.com and claim your artist name once your first song is out. Thank you for watching!
I'm afraid I don't quite understand the question. What part of the process are you referring to and what clickable options are you referring to? As for shifting your music over, you simply upload all of your songs to Amuse (while keeping them live with your old distributor) using the exact same metadata (i.e. ISRC code, cover art, song / album title, artist name, and original release date). Once you've confirmed everything has gone live through Amuse (it will appear duplicated in stores) you can delete the release from your old distributor.
@@tomdupreeiii thanks so much for the second part, and what i meant was as soon as you hit "Change in Release" , what do i do down the list? But i found out already so its all good

So I want to have it like that so I can see back in time when I started all this. So, how do I change Alex V name on Spotify Artist to John Alexander Vega ? Do I change that when I change the name on Distrokid? and when I change it there it will change on My artist page on Spotify to? Or? Is that how I do it?
Angel Martinez good question. Consistently release music every 4-6 weeks for two years straight and spend at least $10 per day on well-targeted Facebook ads. That’ll get you started on the right path!
As someone who released music since 2011 and gotten 30 million streams without any labels. Releasing 1 big album per year, and singles to hype up albums every 1-2 months is how you slowly build your brand. I did that in 2013-2014 before it was "the thing" to do. It's WAY WAY harder these days than when I started though byt the 1 song/6 weeks is the best option if you're starting out. Tom is correct, spending some money on ads is pretty important to be seen. Been thinking a lot about name changing but it seems risky for me :)
@@tomdupreeiii At this point, in order to claim (get access) to the new artist page, should we create a new Spotify for Artist account, or can we get access with the already existing Spotify for Artist account (which was created to claim my previous artist page) ?
I read in a reply that you’ve gotten your followers back.. is this the data transferred from your old account or just new followers? also is the monthly listener’s and song plays transferred as well ? Or did you have to build it back up?
Thank you for the great content! I have a question: I have 2 tracks that have been distributed through Distrokid. If I want to switch from Distrokid to Amuse AND change my artist name, is this the right order?: 1) Create an account at Amuse. 2) Upload my 2 previous tracks from Distrokid to Amuse with their current ISRC, but exactly with the same artist name I currently have. 3) Wait for distribution to finish in all the stores (should I see each release twice on stores? (identical?)). 4) Email Distrokid about removing the tracks on their side / cancel Distrokid sub. 5) And then submit a request to Amuse for changing my artist name?
Hey thanks watching the video! Yep, you've got it exactly right. A couple of notes: on #3, yes, you'll see the release in stores twice. It will be identical and you'll see a little dropdown menu on the song's page in the desktop app. On #4, you can delete your songs from DK without contacting them. They make it easy in their app. But you may want to keep your subscription active in case you want to switch back after the name change. The rest is on the money! Good luck with the switch!
@@tomdupreeiii This is good to know, thank you very much you helped me a lot! "you'll see a little dropdown menu on the song's page in the desktop app" - you mean on Spotify?

Adir Itah Amuse will re-upload your songs to UA-cam and DistroKid will take theirs down. Since you’ll be posting duplicates I’d think it should show up under the same topic you’ve already claimed.
@Tom DuPree lll, interms of creating a new amuse account which package do you take to re-upload your work with them? Do you take the free one or the one you pay for?
I have a question! My name is Joe Kruger, but on youtube and apple music, it is shown as Joe Krüger, which is incorrect. Would I contact my distributor (which is Amuse) to get that changed? In other words, I can't change the name myself on apple music or youtube?
Yes, you would need to contact your distributor to get that changed. Unfortunately, streaming platforms won't let us do that ourselves (yet). Fortunately though, that should simply fall under the category of a formatting issue, not necessarily a name change, so it should be a pretty easy fix.
@@tomdupreeiii thanks for the quick reply. I submitted a request to amuse and put it under name change anyway. I figured if it was just a typo, they'd reply that they could fix it really fast. Hopefully the change is fast and easy. The video was super helpful. You earned a like and sub from me!

Hi Tom. When you signed up to amuse in order to move your already distributed tracks across, did you sign up as the artist name the tracks were already released under or with the new name you wanted to swap over to? Thanks
Hmm... bummer. I'd say give them at least five business days to reply. If it's been that long and still no word from them, maybe try them again. I know they can get backed up. If that doesn't work (or you don't want to try them again) you can try uploading your release through a different distributor (I recommend Amuse if you're not gonna use DistroKid). Make sure you use all the same metadata, including the incorrectly formatted artist name, and once that release shows up as a duplicate in stores, go through your new distributor to request the name adjustment and see if they'll handle it for you. Thanks for the question!
Hey, nice video! Do you know how it works now that Distrokid has an option for changing the artist name? Are there any complications, things to be done in order to maintain followers and play counts etc? Edit: The way I see it, you go into the 'edit release' page, and from there you can simply change the the 'artist name'. Distrokid then suggests to update the name on all of my other releases. If I go through with that, is it likely that isrc-codes and metadata will be transferred -- as I understand that this is necessary to transfer followers/play counts etc?
I did changes both on Amuse and Distrokid. Distorkid changed the name super quickly like in two days I already could see new artist profile on Spotify. New artist page was created with the new name, so you definitely loose Spotify for Artists statistics etc... but on Distrokid everything should stay the same and sum up to the same data. At least I haven't noticed any problem on Distrikid administration. On Amuse, I'm still trying the change for three months. Now I have paid subscription, so things seems to got in move little bit and they are trying to respond in few days to my e-mails, so I hope it will work this time.

Tom, I have released my first single on distrokid, but them quickly removed it because I wanted to change my name to something else. Could I just make a new artist name with musician plus in distrokid and put my same single under that new name?
I never actually put in the request with DistroKid. I just took them at their word in the FAQ section of their site. But I wish I had just so I’d know for sure whether or not they’d do it for me.
Hey Tom, what if I’m with United Masters, I tried to change it on there and did but it didn’t switch on Apple and Spotify. Do I have to release in order to change or do I have to create a new artist page?
You'll have to re-upload your songs to Amuse using the exact same metadata. Once they are duplicated in stores, you'll delete them from DistroKid. Probably going to make a video on this soon, as this question has come up a lot. Thank you for asking!
They're actually saying now that you are not allowed to reupload your tracks under a new artist name even if you delete your all of your tracks under your previous one since the metadata has changed. They say the stores will flag you and won't pay you for your streams, but they word it as "the same audio" . It's unclear whether they mean that particular master file or if you remix, remaster, and a new file name, does that count as a new recording with a new UPC code? Maybe you can shed some light on that?
When you say "they" do you mean your distributor? Or Spotify, Apple, etc.? I didn't have any issues getting all of my metadata switched over to my new artist name; however, I did run into that metadata warning issue when I attempted to move my catalog back to DistroKid from Amuse. They flagged it and said I couldn't upload it due to conflicting metadata. But everything is up and running just fine through Amuse. And I'm still getting paid for my streams, so no issue there.
@@tomdupreeiii i did mean the stores actually. For some reason they don't like conflicting metadata. Also I'm not by "audio recording" do they mean the recording itself or the composition? I wanted to re record some stuff anyway, since I can play them better now
David HK Music when they say the “same audio” they mean the exact same master. Every master has a unique audio signature, which is what the ISRC code refers to. If you remix a track or remaster it, it will have a Jew audio signature, new ISRV code, and the metadata will no longer conflict. So yes, you could re-record old work and upload as a new recording without running into any metadata problems.
Tom, Did you end up getting those followers back? Our biggest concern is not having a google knowledge panel. We are thinking of switching up our name to get us a knowledge panel, and a better SEO. How important is that in your eyes? let us know and thank you so much for the video.
I did get them back! It was a pretty simple process. My knowledge panel sort of showed up one day. I think this is very important as you grow. SEO is often overlooked by artists and bands, and I think it's good to pay attention to it.
Hey Tom. After changing the name on distro kid, how do i get on to the new spotify for artiste account? I see all the names of my songs have changed on platforms, but my spotify for artist still says the wrong name. Any advice on this?
Hey! This has been SUPER helpful thank you for sharing your name change journey. I'm in the process of doing this for mine, and am curious how you would go about switching over a song that I am featured on with another artist since I didn't upload it, but want to transfer it over and have my new name on it?
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching. This is a tricky one. Since you didn't upload it, you'll need to have the other artist make the change for you, which means they'll have to go through the process of either having their distributor change it (if they will) or switching to a distributor that will. It may not be the ideal answer, but if they won't do it (or if you don't feel comfortable asking) you could always start uploading from a new profile and just leave that release as-is but link to it in your bio on your new profile. I hope that helps! Thanks for the question!
@@tomdupreeiii Thanks for answering!! That all makes sense and is helpful. I might just have to take the latter here but won't give up.
I asked spotify and I actually didnt get exactly what they mention, this is the message
“If you request a metadata update it won't affect your track submission.
If we can help with anything else, just let us know.”
If I change name ,will track order change? If anyone has experience about curators list ,please help, cheers
You are so right I just got my artist name approved on Apple!

@@tomdupreeiii ok bro
It’s been 9 months now, any updates on how they ended up moving over streams and other platforms ?
Yeah everything is smooth sailing still. It all switched perfectly for me except for some songs on Napster. But I’m not worried about Napster. 😂
Hello i have changed my artist using distrokid,so the question is do i need to claim a Spotify artist page for my new artist name
Yes. You'll need to claim it via Spotify for Artists just like you did with your original profile.

love the content and how you explained the whole process ! i have just released my debut single and im thinking about changing my artist name.
How do you change a youtube channel that's an official artist page?
will this happen for apple music too tho?
Yes it will! My name was changed on all major platforms with the exception of Napster. But it's Napster, so I can't say I'm too worried about that one. Plus, I'm sure I will be able to get it sorted out eventually. Thanks for watching!

I was! They didn’t automatically transfer for me at first. I’ve heard of others having them port over without having to do anything. But I contacted Spotify and they were happy to help. They moved them over for me. So if they don’t transfer automatically, Spotify will take care of it for you!

They want me to put a release ID. How do I do that?
You can find the release ID in the Amuse app. Select the release you want to reference on the main page to bring it up individually. Once there, scroll to the bottom and you will see a field labeled "release ID". Simply touch the yellow number ID and it will copy to your clipboard so you can easily paste it in the related field on your submission request. Good question! Thanks for watching!

What about apple music? Did it change?
when i try to change artist name through RouteNote, i have to update each release and enter a new artist name. as the new artist name doesn't exist, it asks me if i want to open a new artist profile. should i just do one song and wait for the new artist profile to be opened, so i can choose it for the other releases without instructing routenote to open a new artist profile on each release?
Can you help me out with this bro need help doing this with ditto and United masters
The process should be relatively similar if they allow you to change your name.
Hi, Tom! are there more ways to do this in 2023?
I'm honestly not sure. I'd check with your current distributor first to see if they can do it.

How to change artist name on distrokid account and upload new release
Unfortunately, I don't know that DistroKid will allow you to change your name still. You may need to contact them.
So do I have to just delete it and wait a week then change the artist name and it will work or am I kinda fucked and lost my song forever
You can love your song to a new service without deleting it first. It will appear as a duplicate on the same artist name and then you can delete the old once the new is up. That way you don’t lose your data.
Hi! Why didn't you claim your official artist channel
And, im planning to change my artist name but i already merge the topic channel of my old name.

This sounds but more complex than most. If you’re just changing the formatting of your name, it will stay under the same profile. But if you’re changing any spelling or punctuation or anything like that you’ll probably end up having to “officially” change your artist name and create a new profile.
@@PEBmusic yeah that’s what I ended up doing just changing my name that’s the best honestly
I took your video as a guide and did it as you did:
I had my tracks uploaded on DistroKid. Since DistroKid does not allow name changes, I switched to amuse. I changed my Artist name there and switched now back to DistroKid again.
So I wanted to re-upload my tracks, with the new Artist name on DistroKid. But when I tried it, DistroKid gave me the Following message:
Streaming services rejected this audio because it's already been uploaded, but with a different song title or artist name:
• You & I by Mindblowerz
The track isn’t online as Mindblowerz anywhere.
@@tomdupreeiii No problem! Thanks for replying! :-)
So you still have your "old" tracks on amuse? Or how do your handle that?

@@tomdupreeiii Hmmm... shiiittttt.. Anyways, thank you so much for the video! It's still great that there is the oppertunity to change the artist name.
I will try to fix this. I'm a 100% sure there is a way... because the old track is already on spotify with the changed metadata... so i think it's just a policy of distrokid. Because how could it be on spotify with changed metadata if stores don't allow it? 😂😂
Mindblowerz 💯💯💯
I misspelled my artist name with one letter missing, What should I do? It's only my first release. I'm using distrokid btw
@@tomdupreeiii And my Musician Plus plan is full. So I want to delete my current artist and Make new one
@Andre Orlino if that’s the case then I might suggest seeing if you have luck getting it to upload through another distributor just as a test.
Hey so you just reuploaded all your Distrokid releases to Amuse? Distrokid isn't getting back to me. Thanks!
Man, that’s a bummer. Yeah, that’s exactly what I did. I uploaded all of my existing releases through Amuse, making sure to use all of the exact metadata and artwork. I also need to know how you shifted all of your music to amuse

I dont want to change the tracks I allrdy have publisht.
Hey Tom I have a question, what do you do to get big on Spotify? Is there any tips you could give ?
So basically,
(1) take each song
(2) reupload it through Amuse
(3) upload songs individually
?
(4) delete from old songs from old artist page?
Yep! That’s exactly it. Upload each song through Amuse, confirm it’s duplicates on Spotify, delete from old distributor.
Hey there, ive got a question…how do u get access to the new artist page in the spotify for artist page?
You'll have to reclaim it just as you did your original profile. Basically claiming a new artist account.
@@tomdupreeiii At this point, in order to claim (get access) to the new artist page, should we create a new Spotify for Artist account, or can we get access with the already existing Spotify for Artist account (which was created to claim my previous artist page) ?
But now what happened with your old Artist page? Did it get deleted from Spotify?
My old page is still up but I haven’t asked for it to be taken down. I’ll probably do that at some point soon.
I read in a reply that you’ve gotten your followers back.. is this the data transferred from your old account or just new followers? also is the monthly listener’s and song plays transferred as well ? Or did you have to build it back up?
I was able to get all the old followers moved over, and, as best as I can remember, all the song data moved to my new profile as well.

I have a question:
I have 2 tracks that have been distributed through Distrokid.
If I want to switch from Distrokid to Amuse AND change my artist name, is this the right order?:
1) Create an account at Amuse.
Distrokid wont get back to me to help me fix a capitalization problem on my artist name what should I do should I leave distrokid?
Hmm... Thanks for the question!
what about on apple music and Itunes how does it look on those services ? you didnt really get to talk on those.
Everything updated correctly for me except for on Napster, but I wasn't really worried about that one.
What about your BMI account(or ascap) , can you go in and change artist name for past releases etc? Because that probably has to all match, etc.
You can. That's exactly what I did (ASCAP for me). It wasn't a problem at all!
Hi! this only works for spotify? or also it changes in other platforms like beatport, itunes, etc?
I’m not sure about Beatport but it works for iTunes, Amazon, Tidal. All the major platforms.
@@patmull1 Thanks for the response!! Follow up question: Do you know how likely it is for followers to be transferred on Spotify if I use the 'change name' function on Distrokid?
@@doriankay. did it transfer ?? I have the similar problem now
@@gundo_Guzz Everything went through just fine :)
umm so hey i have a question , i've changed my artist name on amuse and spotify both . so they made a whole new different site for my music . but now the problem is i don't know how to claim the new artist profile , can you please help me with it ? ;-
You'll need to claim it via Spotify for Artists just like you did with your original profile. Good luck with the switch!
@@tomdupreeiii yes i know how to claim the artist profile via Spotify for artists but it says the Artist profile's already been claimed, what can i do now ;-
I really want to change my artist name as well but I still worry about playlists I’m featured in, losing followers, and all the data I’ve had on my page for the last 4 years. CD Baby is my distributor so I don’t have any hope for it. 🤦🏽♂️
I’ll try contacting support anyways.
If it helps, I retained all my playlist placements and data. And I got my followers transferred over by Spotify without issue. The only thing I lost was monthly listeners but that built right back up over the next month after the switch. I say definitely look into it!
Thanks for the hope :)
Tysm! Do you know if you are able to change the cover picture to one of your releases? Or do you just have to delete it and make a new one..? Please let me know!😊
Yes you can! DistroKid makes it super easy. Other distributors will do it if you contact customer support.
@@tomdupreeiii ty! :D
This is super helpful, did this change the name for other DSPs too?? (apple music, google play, etc)
Yep, it changed my name everywhere!
@@tomdupreeiii o wow okay! What if you didn't release anything through amuse though? Can they still help?
Tom, I have released my first single on distrokid, but them quickly removed it because I wanted to change my name to something else. Could I just make a new artist name with musician plus in distrokid and put my same single under that new name?
Tom what was your experience requesting with Distrokid?
I never actually put in the request with DistroKid. I just took them at their word in the FAQ section of their site. But I wish I had just so I’d know for sure whether or not they’d do it for me.
@@tomdupreeiii Ahh gotcha. I'm heavily considering revamping but if I lose my streams it isn't worth it for me.
You sir .... deserve all my money!
But then I would be broke ...
But it's much appreciated man!
Haha! Well we don't want you to go broke. Your thanks is plenty. I'm glad you like the video!
Hey Tom, what if I’m with United Masters, I tried to change it on there and did but it didn’t switch on Apple and Spotify. Do I have to release in order to change or do I have to create a new artist page?
how did you move your distrokid releases to amuse?
You'll have to re-upload your songs to Amuse using the exact same metadata. Once they are duplicated in stores, you'll delete them from DistroKid. Probably going to make a video on this soon, as this question has come up a lot. Thank you for asking!
@@tomdupreeiii and if you re upload them you keep the streams? Also, how do you get the metadata?
@@jonathan2347 yep! You keep the streams. Your metadata is ISRC code, artist name, release title, and artwork.
@@tomdupreeiii did you Made the video? i would like to watch it
They're actually saying now that you are not allowed to reupload your tracks under a new artist name even if you delete your all of your tracks under your previous one since the metadata has changed.
@@tomdupreeiii nice! Thanks for helping me clarify that!!
David HK Music of course!
So if you had a linked youtube account to your current name you can change the name there too to link it with the new name?
You mentioned that you thought your followers would be transferred to the new name in time. Did that happen? Thanks!
It didn’t, but I contacted Spotify and they moved them over without any issues. Super easy!
The second a distributor comes out with a feature to easily change artist names they will be number one!!! I find it ridiculous that most still don't provide this service since it is not impossible- & since it seems to be a bigger process distributors should at least provide the option for an extra cost for those who are serious.
Nellie Schindler totally agree with that. I honestly don’t think it is quite as big of a deal as they try to make us believe it is. I think most just don’t want to fool with it. Best of luck on your name change and releases!
@@tomdupreeiii Agreed!!! You're the best thanks!!
how can I find the release id? Because i have to fill out the form
It varies by distributor, but it's included somewhere for you to find. In Amuse it's on the release page in the app.
