That part at the beginning where you use the image trace option to differentiate the shades on the picture is genius. Seriously I used to go into photoshop and edit the photo there (contrast and saturation) before importing and even with that I wasn't too happy with it. Thanks so much!!!

Bravo! Thank you so much for this. Best tutorial on this style I have come across so far, you made it so easy. I have no problems drawing with the mouse, but it is hard to find a tutorial for this type of work that shows that technique. You broke down the steps so well and that image trace to get the shades and high lights is the best tip! Also, over shooting the lines then dividing - I'd always get so frustrated trying to get all my lines joined up. And best of all- you didn't break out the pen tool! Thanks sooooo much.

I dont use a mouse, but about that whole pretty much shading walk through. that was a major help dude wow. thank you so much.. you keep me motivated. God bless you!
for anyone having problems still with their line work and the original coloring style he uses, try the live paint tool. you can do everything he does with shading but without your line work being as clean. obviously you wanna keep clean lines, but it can be hard with a mouse. the live paint is "K" on the keyboard btw.

All this time I'm learning to do illustration/digital art, I'm told to use black for shades and white for light with varying level of opacity. This is different, great job.

Either I suck real bad....or I do look like a fat, old pig. Because that's how mine looked after hiding the image layer. lol. Many more trials and error to go! But your video does a great job explaining the process as well as proving you don't NEED a pen and tablet.
