I have watched this video one year ago and after that i practiced it now i am becomes a professional portrait designer and earning thankk u alice this video is gold :)
watching this makes me ashamed to call myself a graphic designer! the time and effort you put into that, with the highlights and shadows is just phenomenal. You're amazing!
For the "copy and paste in place" it's easier to use (and remember) paste in front (F) or paste in back (B). The paste in place one is meant more for pasting in another artboard x
Not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but the shape builder tool is really helpful to cut away excess shapes opposed to building so many clipping masks.
I have been in my Graphic Design course for three months, too afraid of how to stop the pen tool from curving... all I have to do is click the box... Thank you so much! Love the video!
Thanks.. I just want to learn human vector portrait and i am a beginner. Can you please have a full portrait tutorial. I meant fully a-z from opening a file to saving a file. And thanks again
After watching a lot of videos on you tube, from which i have learned nothing. I have finally landed on your video and i am glad i did. Your video helped me a lot to learn a lot of things. Thank You SOOOO Much.
I’m a self taught designer as well and learning these little tips help sooo much! I’ve been struggling with Illustrator for so long but this video is inspiring me to keep practicing!
With the lashes... When you pump up the size you got little sharp bits sticking out. So I think you converted the line to a shape then used the erase tool to remove those sharp bits.
A character artist says the shape takes account of 60%~70% of visual arts and the remainder is about adding detail. Seeing how the portrait is drawn in this demo and how I drew many portraits, I think when it comes to realistic portrait drawing, the detail is just as important as the shape. For instance, the highlights and shadows around the eyes and cheeks and the way the shape of the nose is expressed by shades can completely change the impression.
I've been trying to learn vector drawing but finding it very difficult to understand and apply the learning from the kind of dry tutorial that just explains the tools. Learning from a proper demonstration like this is the best way to make sense of it and see what can be done. I had just about given up hope that I could get the hang of it, but you make it look easy, Alice, so thanks for the demo. It looks great!
I always put off creative things with the thought they won’t be good enough so end up creating nothing and then feel bad that I haven’t made anything and you’re dead right, you just need to start and stop the worrying, thanks Alice, sometimes you need someone to just say it out loud for it to click! Great Video 🤍
This is like the best vector art tutorial ive ever seen!! Thanks a lot You explain things very well unlike others who just skip some parts And please make a video about skin shading.. I cant seem to understand the part about the shadows & highlights...
Love the Gaussian blur trick!! Looks so good! Something I do when I make my vector images that may be a bit easier is use the shape builder tool and hold down alt to delete anything I don’t want hanging off when adding shadows or hair bits instead of doing the clipping mask
I loved the simplicity of your explanations.. Some speedart videos are difficult to follow but you easily combined some speedart along with your explanations and normal speed. Awesome work..you just got a new subscriber.
Wow I'm blown away from your talent & skills. I'm glad I'd found your UA-cam channel. I would like to ask you what's the difference of using Wacom vs iPad for illustration. I've never had use any of those. Thank you 🙏.
i loved it! amaizing work! Thank you very useful i didn't get the part where you worked on blending light and shade to the skin and lips, it was very fast there.
I just started taking graphic design classes and have been trying to watch other people do the craft to help open my mind up. Definitely gained a subscriber. you have a really good eye for color. I really enjoyed this video.
Hello! Thank you for this video, it was very informative! I was wondering if you could make a more in-depth video on how you did the gradient eyebrows? Thank you so much, love your videos.
I am just quickly going to do the whites of the eye... done without explanation. So you used a blob brush tool to paint the white, then grouped the eyes, then sent back a few layers until it was behind the iris and eye outline - then used the erase tool to clean up the edges and finally tweaked the shape with the direct selection tool to adjust the anchor points and handles?
the most amazing thing i saw as an artist not the drawing or something its how ur smile dont leave ur face when u are drawing i love that and miss it (y) p.s im not pro or something . i love doing art but if u use shape builder tool u will much more faster
i love this! i got a wacom for christmas, can you please do an in-depth / draw along with you version? i’d love to learn these techniques/how to add different brushes x
I loved it! I especially enjoyed the contouring part, because, as a beginner in Illustrator (and drawing vectors in general), it is super hard for me to notice these things. Well done!
I really want to get to know all the shortcuts and keys like you! You are a pro! Thank u. What do you recommend to learn and keep in your mind all those shortcuts ?
Hiya, that looks amazing! I studied graphics at college and miss creating so much. This has inspired me and I’d love to see more illustration themed videos like this. It’s soo interesting to see how you create these amazing designs!😃
You are so talented and clever the way you create the hair and the lips etc very impressive inspired may need to try this in isolation if i get it. Or if i lose my job through the madness. but for now i m in job and willl be for a wee while at least i think
I really loved this video! I just started taking a class that focuses on graphic design in high school right now and I honestly just love graphic design and I would really like to make a career out of it! This video really helped me learn more about the things that go with graphic design and could help give me more ideas in the future! ♡♡♡
As a beginner in illustrator, this was so interesting to watch! I missed some more detail in the parts when you were explaining the clipping masks and the details in the face, though. And I wonder how much more difficult this would be when done with a mouse, as I don't have a wacon or anything close. Anyways, thank you for the video! I will for sure further explore your channel 😊
You fast forwarded all the important steps!!!
Dear
You should watch beginners level "pen tool" tutorials if it was hard for you to get through those fast forwarded steps. That will help you a lot

Agree, I wanted to see, how to work with eyes and also highlights 😢 That part was very quickly to understand ((
ye i agree. blend mode, gaussian, highlight was skipped :((((((

Omg amazing! I did wonder why there were so many different ways to paste 😊
Not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but the shape builder tool is really helpful to cut away excess shapes opposed to building so many clipping masks.
So cool! It looks realistic to me and doesn't look like a cartoon.
I have been in my Graphic Design course for three months, too afraid of how to stop the pen tool from curving... all I have to do is click the box... Thank you so much! Love the video!

FYI - Illustrator -> effect menu -> blur -> gaussian blur... will have to check out a tutorial for that, as it looks cool
I used that technique, but too many use of guassian blur, the Ai automatically lags and not responding.
@@thonl1999 my frustartion as well with Ai. Most of the effects (blur, drop shadow etc) lags the system. perhaps we need a more powerful system
This was technique i was curious

Thanks so much Alice. This video is so detailed . I would take your videos as that which would give me inspiration.

If you press alt and click the object you can drag a copy of it, that way you don’t need to copy and paste
You might like using the object selection tool when making cuts instead of using clipping mask so you don’t always have to cut and paste make cuts :)
I loved it! I especially enjoyed the contouring part, because, as a beginner in Illustrator (and drawing vectors in general), it is super hard for me to notice these things. Well done!
this absolutely beautiful! thanks for tutorial!
You are so welcome!
awesome! you are a great teacher and the portrait is totally stunning!
Thank you so much 😀
That's super impressive. I'm amazed at how awesome that turned out!
This is really helpful to get me started learning vector portraits, hmm how 'bout doing a male vector portrait next?
uhm theres no difference between one or the other.
YOU ARE VEERY TALENTED!!!! 😳❤️
Great video, Do you suggest using a pen Tablet with a screen for Illustrator. I find using a mouse so awkward but drawing free hand so easy
What a fantastic tutorial
Absolutely brilliant. Loved watching this.
Hi Alice! I would love if you (or anyone) could explain why you would use a clipping mask? Im trying to figure out when and why to use it. cheers!
At first I thought, this doesn't look good, but towards the end wow! Awesome work!!
Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I'm thinking of pursuing graphic designing so this has been helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Wow I’ve always been to scared to try colour on adobe illustrator, but you’ve made me want to try it now ☺️

@@AliceThorpe what are the short cuts for filling shapes in with a colour and changing a line having solid colour to just a line hope this makes sense

3 years after you uploaded this and I have just found your channel. Great content.
