My 17yo son came out as gay in 2020. He was scared of course. I played this song to him as we were driving the next day. Whenever we drive now I put this on and we sing it together. We are so close it's amazing.
One of his most open and heartfelt songs and one of very many for this most underrated and intelligent songwriter and performer who is so severely underrated
With all the shit going on today, artists like Joe Jackson have stood out as visionaries perhaps moreso than as musicians. Jackson' s songwriting is more relevant today than it was 40 years ago.
We just saw Joe Jackson in NYC at the Beacon Theater. I waited nealy 40 years to see him live after many mishaps and failed attempts. This song goes to right to my core. I can relate to most of the messges personally as I know there are many that can as well and its message is so poignant. Take the lyrics away and you are left with a beautiful and haunting melody from one of the best musical artist that England has produced.
I'm listening to this album tonight in 2020 (yes, on vinyl) and still remember seeing Joe in concert in 1980; wow 40 years ago. What a great artist and musician that evolved through the years.
This is such a powerful and compassionate song. Beautiful lyrics sung with real feeling. Has been my favourite Joe song since first I heard it as kid and now as an adult fully understand the lyrics and the storytelling of the song. Thank you Joe
It’s 2022 and I still love this song. Definitely puts JJ in a elite bracket of more than a rocker, but a true composer. Saw him in at the Waikiki Shell in the early 80s. 😷🤙🏼
Had these lyrics in my high school dairy , I thought it was profund back then....even more so today....AND THAT MOLODY breathtaking as always..hasn't lost any of its magic live..actually even better👏👏👏😎
Thankfully they did not censor this as they did with Joe's performance of this song that was broadcast on WLIW in the New York City area this past Saturday night.
I saw Joe at Joe's Pub on his birthday in the late 90s. The pub wanted him to end his set and he said it was his birthday and was playing until he was done.... it went late...
where did joe get all his ideas from to write such incredible ,stunning real life songs ?i should associate this with the mind of a genius ...and the musical skills of mantovarni xxx
Does anyone here recall a live version of Real Men that includes Joe giving a tribute to a football team at the start of the song? It was an Aussie team I believe. I had it on cassette!! Wore it out & can’t find that live version. Thanks for any help!!
I have it. It is on a double live CD that I think was released in the mid-80s. At the end of Sunday Papers, he mentions the rugby team and goes into Real Men.
Saw him first time when my boy friend of 3 years dumped me when I finished my nursing course. We had pre booked it - felt sick through the whole thing x
I would like to apologise, for what seems to make no sense. Apparently, I am considered as a real man. So, it's my destiny, to salve the wounds, caused by the evils that men do. If you would like to have any opportunities to deliver your message of dissatisfaction, then please do. I am here to listen to your pain. I am noones judge. I'm really sorry about this. I'm just here, trying to mend some broken winged birdie's, caused by reckless little boys.
Real Men was off Night & Day. It was a great song that tackled a very difficult subject. As a 14 year old I thought where are these tall handsome strong gay mocho men. I had to do some homework 👍
I was once considered as a real man. I had the right haircut. I wore the right clothes. I had all the breaks. Yet, somehow, I still turned out to be a piece of shit. I don't ask for pity. I won't accept any, either. It is, what it is.

courageous. so talented, openminded, insightful. musicians today don't have this level of integrity, honesty, candor.
Very moving words. People should take the time to listen to what he’s saying. This song is so beyond the music itself.

Lovely story!!!!!!!!
What a great father and son y'all are👍
If fully understand you. You're a wonderful man!
Great! You are a Real Father.
well hes a lucky guy to have someone supportive and accepting as you ; kudos
This song was released in 1981.. WAY ahead of its time.
Danny's YT Channel - Real Men will last more than a wifetime😉
It was 1982.
Took my 16 year old son to see him last summer in San Diego. The venue held 700-800 people. It was amazing...
One of his most open and heartfelt songs and one of very many for this most underrated and intelligent songwriter and performer who is so severely underrated
He had his fans. He tours often. He is a precious gift.
Way ahead of our times, one of the greatest

frig,, exactly what i said.. worlds gone to sht..
He called it out back then, he saw the playbook and put it in song

A true classic song…performed at the highest level…Joe Jackson….

Some albums just need to be listened on vinyl.
I had no idea this song was so old. How old were you when you saw that concert?
This song makes me cry...remember listening it in my room & crying like I am now
Nickolaos Viniaris probably the greatest song ever written. The lyrics and music are perfect.
What was it about the song that made you so emotional?
hugzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.. urnotalone.. tlc
It definitely strikes an emotional chord, somewhat inexplicably. When music touches your heart, it’s ok to let the tears flow.
@@Davo198 the description of hatred
This song is so beautiful, it had a profound effect on my sense of right and wrong.
Musically brilliant, great piano playing.
Lyrically light years ahead of its time
Yes, and he played violin before piano.
Stunningly brilliant.
He wrote and sang this song so many years ago, true then but also predicted the crazy world of today.....
What a fantastic singer/ writer. Saw him this year in Dublin. Brilliant live. Listen to the words ! Joe's the main man
Too bad he couldn't play ireland this year. Bloody covid. Seen him play the Olympia few times. Absolutely brilliant
I think of this song very often in this strange world of 2023. The Incel movement. Trans rights. Toxic masculinity. A masterpiece by Joe.
This is such a powerful and compassionate song. Beautiful lyrics sung with real feeling. Has been my favourite Joe song since first I heard it as kid and now as an adult fully understand the lyrics and the storytelling of the song. Thank you Joe
I just love this man:
I'm listening to this beautiful song now in april 2022, living in Europa. The sense with which it appears to me today is a bit strange...
This man (and his band) are simply incredible live. See him if you are able.
saw the body and soul and big world tours. quite brilliant
Going Feb 28th Seattle 2019, Body and Soul tour in Seattle was my first!
I have never been able, Canada is not a country that joe goes to.
It’s 2022 and I still love this song. Definitely puts JJ in a elite bracket of more than a rocker, but a true composer. Saw him in at the Waikiki Shell in the early 80s. 😷🤙🏼
Saw him 3 times ✊ absolute legend , he certainly new how to write great songs 🎵 not like most of friggin crap today 😉✊💪👊👊👊👊
Had these lyrics in my high school dairy , I thought it was profund back then....even more so today....AND THAT MOLODY breathtaking as always..hasn't lost any of its magic live..actually even better👏👏👏😎
He's one helluva musician and songwriter
Yes, beautiful man and incrediby talented man. The current Botox look doesn't suit him
Great job on this song, Joe. Thought-provoking.
Joe Jackson is an attribute to all mankind we should appreciate him!!.
What a great song.i love him so much. I heard it today may be 10 times
Brilliant performance!
Absolutely love him. An all time great

+Jeff Vargon why was that censored, if I may ask ?
Yes, they censored the word "faggot" in spite of the actual context of the word in the song.
omg really? 😂 super stupid
...just see that you wrote this years ago. Well never mind. Greetings from a fan in Germany.
this song is amazing..way to go Joe!
Brilliant !! 👍💯❤️
Grateful to Immanuel Casto's beautiful cover for making me know this song.
A great artist ❤❤❤❤!!!!
So Good!!
Legend !!!!

Michael Jackson yes a Blackfella answered Joe Jackson's question with "Man in the mirror"...
This song is awesome and but if Joe hadn't been in the closet Look Sharp would not have been the perfectly brilliant work that it is.
