I usually don't comment on music because we all have our favorites from the past, but Tori reallly performs the Joe Jackson song to bring one to tears. Where the hell did Tori go? She's so good here.
The entire concept of the album is Tori covering songs about women. She turns her on concept on it's head by covering this song as the last song on the album.
The point of the album was the change the meaning of all the songs. They are all songs written by men and she used them from a womans point of view. Brilliant concept if you ask me.
What?! Haha, this is an awesome cover by an incredible performer . Shes stunning and her spin on the song is hauntingly effective. Original and cover...... no better just different. Depends what you heard first. I cant listen to the original after having heard this first. I like it more than the original IMHO, but just my opinion. Her voice is impeccable as is her piano.
I am continually astounded by the depth of this woman...How apropos that she performed this one around the time of 9/11. I love her cover of "Time" that she did then too. This song was one that I was not familiar with until the Strange Little Girls album. And hearing my favorite female artiste perform it, and give it even more teeth is really disarming. Tori's the best, and that's why she's the queen, no matter what she's exploring musically or philosophically. Much love to you, Tori!!
@tramtrackharry I disagree. I love Joe and love his original, but I think Amos provides a really interesting interpretation and performance. Even Joe really likes Tori's version.
This song is one of several Tori did on her Strange little girls album, where she covers songs exclusively written by men. There is no doubt that Tori has earned her title as an original singer/songwriter. If she wants to do cover songs in adition to her own material, that`s HER choice.
Wow. All this phillipic discussion about Tori's facial expressions! I've always considered her to be flirting with the audience through t.v. Kind of really trying to invite people into her world. I think she does it majically.I've often wondered how the camera operaters feel when she looks down the lens;does it disconcert them a bit? I can see how people might think she's being sexual, sometimes she may want to be...I just view her looks as an enticing invitation, that am always glad to accept.
She's a complete freak, but I have to say that even though I'd never listen her other stuff, she really does a great job of bringing out the beautiful melodies of this song. I actually prefer it as I write this to the Joe Jackson album version, and I'm a HUGE fan of his.
tori is fucking great!!! Smoke some ganj put in anything, but preferably to Venus and Back. That will be an unforgettable experience. My dad's music god is Jimi Hendrix, and he neve has liked music I listen to except for Tori. He says he can tell she is genuine.
@archraskal The purpose of Strange Little Girl's as an album was for Tori to cover typically "masculine" songs from a female perspective. Personally, I totally think it translates as the song deals with sexuality on numerous levels, so based on that it shouldn't matter what sex the person is who sings it. But for you, I would just say... Don't listen to the rest of the album, I don't think you'll like it very much!
Actually i think I am proud that someone picked up on such a very great ( and poigniant ) song; fook me in the time nobody cared about the issues in this song so if Tori has propogated it good one her... Oh yeah you all heard this song before and obviously were a JJ fan since "Sunday Papers" ... Don't piss me off now!
A fair effort at englands best songwriter ever,Joe Jackson. Why Joe never got the true deserved recognition for how good he is puzzles me. He is a legend and no one can sing his songs as good as he does but i might be biased lol.
This is a message to all of you parents, Father died recently, was going blind. Tori Amos can play the piano, blind, David Gilmore (pink Floyd) can play the frets blind. I can play the hundred or so songs when the lights are out. Short term, helping them to make money is fine, but I built my first guitar. Start your kids early if they have a yearning to play an instrument. It's really an act of love for your children.
I loved the original version by Jo Jackson. This version is different and works mainly due to the performance of the artist. She sounds better but you don't get to appreciate the pain until you have heard Jo's original.
This sounds really beautiful to me,I don't know the original,I will check it out but I thought this was beautifully done.I think Tori Amos is supertalented and comparing her to Kate Bush I think is entirely useless.I thought when I first heard Tori years ago that she was Kate Bush wannabe but she is totally her own artist and has her own style and take on things. She is a superb pianist and singer and performer.Love her here.
yeah it is. i have a hard time finding what each song means with this album; it's challenging. maybe it's hard because i am a woman, so these songs always felt that way to me?
Hi ! I don't agree with some persons that say that this song can't be sing by a woman, I even think that the song is "stronger" when it's a woman who sings. 5* ! I didn't know Tori Amos, but I'm gonna listen some of her songs ! BYE !
I like your comment & gave it a thumb up, although i also believe it doesn't improve Joe Jackson's version and this one isn't getting a 'hight' like Joe reaches one.
Wish you luck. I m looking for a recording of my self yelling too hear raspberry swirl. At the civic arena in Pgh. I was shocked when I heard it. I think they dropped it when they stopped unregistered down loaded
For goodness sakes! If you notice that all of the songs on Strange Little Girls are written by men. Tori wanted to take these songs and put a female perspective on it. She has mentioned this before. So, as to why she changed the lyric "gay" to "guy" was because she is speaking from a female point of view. If you notice the character in the album artwork, the character looks like a guy. So, the character is probably a drag king or transgendered person... but I think drag king.
@steinerdude I don't want to make you mad but .. were you drunk four hours ago? She sings the words soo clearly. " If there's war between the sexes, there will be nobody left." I've had very little schooling but some of the spelling here on youtube is unbeleivable !!!!Do'es anyone out there think Tori is absoluty seductivly georgeous singing this song, besides me?
I'm sure it has been said before but the point of the album is the female point on male protagonist songs-kind of a what if. and how does the meaning change-97 Bonnie & Clyde is so different. Raining Blood..
SO nice to hear a Joe Jackson song covered so brilliantly! Great up.
pretty damn good version and this is coming from a hard core JJ fan!!
A performance as beautiful as the woman herself. Nobody can hold a crowd like Tori!
What a fantastic rendition of a song that only becomes more relevant with each passing year..
Brilliant rendition of Joe Jackson’s masterpiece. Only Tori and a piano here!
I adore when Tori covers other folks' music, as much as I like her own. She finds shades and colors that no one else does.
Love the original, love her cover even more.
She's got balls of steel. and TALENT, intelligence, and strength..wish she'd get more press
I usually don't comment on music because we all have our favorites from the past, but Tori reallly performs the Joe Jackson song to bring one to tears. Where the hell did Tori go? She's so good here.
I love Tori, and she looks beautiful here. A nice cover. She puts her own "spin" on it.
I love her rendition. her INTERPRETATION of the song is what makes it so original.
It is shit. No woman should sing this song.
hey dont assume her gender ;-)
The entire concept of the album is Tori covering songs about women. She turns her on concept on it's head by covering this song as the last song on the album.
There's this gorgeous vocal inflection between the words "the" and "real" in this that's not on the album version. It's enchanting
I was reading this comment just as she sang it…my whole body reacted. Everything about this rendition is beautiful.
This performance is perfect, Tori on her game
My god, this woman can do no wrong. Amazing.
nice version of the Joe Jackson classic
written in 1983 --- we still have a long way to go on these topics
great song
The point of the album was the change the meaning of all the songs. They are all songs written by men and she used them from a womans point of view. Brilliant concept if you ask me.
agreed
This was the first time in my life when I've felt like I've lost ownership of a song. It triggers the hell out of me for some reason, this
the eminem one and i don’t like mondays songs had me 😭😭
Beautiful cover.
I like both of the versions, both are different. Its neat hearing Tori sing softer, making the lyrics really pop.
Perhaps my favorite of all the various, brilliant covers she has recorded or performed. Stunning.
Fucking Amazing as always, She Drips with class and Talent...A rare breed these days
Beautiful! I love Tori AND Joe Jackson's music.
she sang it beautifully
This cover is soooo good.
she's so beautiful here 😍
I never loved this song until seeing this. Amazing! Love it better live as usual
Absolutely brilliant. If one can't see how "ORIGINAL" this cover of "Real Men" is, then one clearly does not get (and clearly never will get) Tori.
A woman has no business singing this song.
And I don't want to get her. She's a third rate Kate Bush.
That was the entire point of the album this cover is from.
What's your argument? That only gay men should sing it?
Chad Hill you sir are a Real Man
"Rain" - Joe Jackson's new album is released on January 28th 2008. It's awesome!!!
Excellent performance of this cover. As usual. :)
Great Cover, by a Great Artist!!!
she's amazing....
@tramtrackharry
I disagree. I love Joe and love his original, but I think Amos provides a really interesting interpretation and performance. Even Joe really likes Tori's version.
Both great versions!
Stunning.
I like your passion. Favorite of mine for several years.......thanks man......
I love this song.
Fantastic!
Perfection.
This song is one of several Tori did on her Strange little girls album, where she covers songs exclusively written by men.
There is no doubt that Tori has earned her title as an original singer/songwriter. If she wants to do cover songs in adition to her own material, that`s HER choice.
This performance is like butta. It gets better and better towards the end too!
Still so relevant ❤
both versions rock!
wonderfully heartbreaking.
love you T!
Thank you for posting this. Great, great performance.
this performance makes my blood run cold
Wow. All this phillipic discussion about Tori's facial expressions!

Gorgeous....
OMG, came from Joe Jackson to Tori Amos, love them both too!
She's a complete freak, but I have to say that even though I'd never listen her other stuff, she really does a great job of bringing out the beautiful melodies of this song. I actually prefer it as I write this to the Joe Jackson album version, and I'm a HUGE fan of his.
It's a great song.
Regardless of whether Joe or Tori sing's it.
If Tori Amos is the wind, Joe Jackson is the hurricane.
tori is fucking great!!! Smoke some ganj put in anything, but preferably to Venus and Back. That will be an unforgettable experience. My dad's music god is Jimi Hendrix, and he neve has liked music I listen to except for Tori. He says he can tell she is genuine.

my mom is soooo obsesed with her
haunting.....
mmmm, the talented ms. Tori Amos outstanding job on a cover of a joe jackson song.
A fair effort at englands best songwriter ever,Joe Jackson. Why Joe never got the true deserved recognition for how good he is puzzles me. He is a legend and no one can sing his songs as good as he does but i might be biased lol.
I miss her
Thank you Jorge
I didn't give you a thumbs down but I couldn't disagree with you more. Beautiful style on a beautiful song. love the artistic interpitation.
This is a message to all of you parents, Father died recently, was going blind. Tori Amos can play the piano, blind, David Gilmore (pink Floyd) can play the frets blind. good cover
@BabyDillGerkin
Was actually released in 1982.
@KaitainCPS yes, 1982, thank you for pointing that out
Like this version more maybe cause l like tori's music style more then Joe Jackson's 80's style.
Y kant Tori read? :)
Both the original and her version are wonderful. Why does it have to be one or the other?
@GirlsThatWearBlue But that lyric is in the original Joe Jackson version too, from 1983..
yeah it is. i have a hard time finding what each song means with this album; it's challenging. maybe it's hard because i am a woman, so these songs always felt that way to me?
@ufos22 most definitely! Most beautiful woman ever!
She's great but Joe Jackson's original cannot be topped.
recommend!
This proves once again that Joe should have got a much well acclaimed "career".
Come on Joe, One more time...
awesome. better than the album version
Well, it depends on if you like the Jackson guy, i Don't, never did.. Tori rocks this song with so much feeling. Thanks Tori for being who you are..
Jackson is a great songwriter.
❤❤❤❤
I'm glad, too! And nobody should flame you--you flamed yourself :>)
@kjulietraven Probably something to do with Kilborn's (slightly) later timeslot?
Hi ! I don't agree with some persons that say that this song can't be sing by a woman, I even think that the song is "stronger" when it's a woman who sings. 5* ! I didn't know Tori Amos, but I'm gonna listen some of her songs ! BYE !
@tramtrackharry
Yes. That's exactly it.
@Mehrfachkeks : She's singing "Na hooooo" instead of "Woah Hoah".
She covers Joe Jackson
I don’t get why anyone would compare this to the Joe Jackson original unfavorably. They both have essentially the exact same meaning..
I like your comment & gave it a thumb up, although i also believe it doesn't improve Joe Jackson's version and this one isn't getting a 'hight' like Joe reaches one.
does Tori have notes hidden under her long sleeves? you can see writing on her hand around 4:25.
anybody have any idea where i can see a video of tori doing 97 bonnie and clyde live?
Wish you luck. I m looking for a recording of my self yelling too hear raspberry swirl. At the civic arena in Pgh. I was shocked when I heard it. I think they dropped it when they stopped unregistered down loaded
Give her more credit-I think she sings this more caring and more intelligent then the original artist.-Joe Jackson is great and Tori is Great.
yes it's softer but still has her perspective
No I'm not. I have no idea how old or new this vid is, i just have founded Tori Amos :D
Tori never realy proforemed 97 Bonnie and Clyde live.. she always played a recording of it at the begining of all the shows on the tour
@LizardWizard7
Maybe because she likes the song......
For goodness sakes! If you notice that all of the songs on Strange Little Girls are written by men. Tori wanted to take these songs and put a female perspective on it. She has mentioned this before. WHOA! I can't believe they didn't bleep out the F-bomb.
i think that was the point, babe!

Listen to the original song by Joe Jackson
What year is this?
2001
