Used to play his CD in the car going home after a 12 hour shift in a car factory. Always sang along to this as the sun was coming up, and I was going back to see my wonderful family getting up.
joe jackson is without a doubt the best songwriter this country has ever produced. im glad i was about when he started out as a punk band in the late 70's and ive loved him for over 35 years or so. gonna see him again for the umpteenth time in concert this year. just know its gonna be another great concert. keep it up joe..... yr the man .....
I totally agree, but go and check out Ren. A guy from Brighton, long story, who has a flavor of Joe Jackson to him, in his brilliant song writing and musical artisanship. His new song "Hi Ren" is just making big waves, he is his own producer, director, singer and songwriter. Check him out, he is the most brilliant light shining in the musical sky today, and goes against the machine. I think you'll like him
One of my favourite Joe Jackson shows was when he was at Toronto's Palais Royale, an old time dance hall that my folks went to when Dad was in WW2. He did Beat Crazy, Joe was drunk, the music was Reggae style, It was early 1982. And it was all good! Really good!

For some bizarre reason I hadn't listened to the Night & Day album in over 30 years until a couple of days ago (or any of Joe's work aside from the usual hits that are occasionally played on "classic" radio). I didn't realize how much I missed it. And yes, I get tired of DJs.
i went to a thrift house and bought a cd by joe Jackson and it had this song on it.i had never heard it before, its now one of my all time favorite. thank you.
I'm an old fan of this guy. Going back to the 1970's. He's a genius. Graham Maybe, his long time and dedicated bass player, lost his wife to cancer recently. I've never seen Joe without Graham at his side. He's also one of the good guys.
I saw Joe live and was wishing he would do this song but wouldn't be surprised if he didn't, as a performer can't possibly play all their stuff. Besides it is not one of the mot popular tunes so... To my surprise and delight he ended that night with this actual tune. Boy was I happy.
A great song ..i 'm so sensitive to this song..and is my first time in live..i love studio version to ! Il me fait penser ici à un punk qui serait devenu sentimental..
imagine you are in a night club and you are chatting a lovely girl and then the dj plays a rowdy song so that you can,t hear her or even hear what she is saying back . This song is describing that exact situation . A great song by the pompey genius and 7 minutes of sheer brilliance & i get tired of dee jays i,m going to push right through and reuest a slow song !!!!!!!!!!!
Hi ! I'm sorry to hear for Graham's wife. Joe Jackson had ever been one of my prefered artist ; his songs are always very melodious, and for most of them with good rythms. Simply a Great Artist !!!
Beautiful song, and one of my favorite JJ tunes for sure, but for some reason when the credits started rolling I was reminded of Jackson Browne's "The Load-Out/Stay". Funny how music can make your mind wander....
Music has charms they say But in some people's hands It becomes a savage beast Can't they control it Why don't they hold it back You see my friend and me Don't have an easy day And at night we dance not fight And we need the energy If not the sympathy But I'm brutalized by bass And terrorized by treble I'm open to change my mood but I always get caught in the middle And I get tired of DJs Why is it always what he plays I'm gonna push right through I'm gonna tell him too Tell him to Play us Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song It's late - I'm winding down Am I the only one To want a strong and silent sound To pick me up and undress me Lay me down and caress me I feel you touch my hand And whisper in my ear Ask me how I'm feeling now And I want to get near you But I can't even hear you But this is a fine romance If we have to be so demanding We need just one more dance to Leave here with an understanding And I get tired of DJs Why's it always what he plays I'm gonna push right through I'm gonna tell him too Tell him to Play us Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song And I get tired of DJs Why's it always what he plays I'm gonna push right through I'm gonna tell him too Play us a Play us a Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song Play us a slow song
When i heard him starting to sing and heard the slight croak in his voice i was afraid he'd bomb the high bit in the chorus... Never should have doubted him, it almost makes it better...
sorry to hear about Graham's wife. He's a rock solid bass player's bass player any style anytime. I lost my wife to cancer two years ago I feel for this brother. Btw Joe's songwriting is perfection and you vocalists out there try singing to this song or "Breaking us in Two." Very complex melodies going on there.
Joe Jackson has played this later on in life constantly, and doesn't play his hits anymore live with the amount of fervor he has and thats my complaint. Well, Sting has the same issue. I saw Sting, live, in 2011 and when he sang Roxanne it was NOTHING like it used to be. It was all classical and stuff. I guess when you get older you get sappy. I sure have I suppose in a way. Thank you ALL for spectacular comments (the trite stuff people often write...?) this is my first - you all will probably be glad to know that my 14-year-old daughter thinks he's awesome!!! (Mommy still listens to records) and she uses her iTunes gift cards to download his music; (i'm also trying to improve Joe's company on her iPhone ...)
I’m sure Joe Jackson fans won’t mind me pointing out that there is an incredibly similar artist of his generation, in France ( yes, I know, but bear with), called William Sheller. If you like JJ you’ll love WS. Try his song ‘in homme heureux’.

Joe Jackson: One of the most Underated performers of all time.

*underrated
Exactly. Talented trained musician. Great songwriter so many songs and singer. And funny genuine
Incredible artist, so eclectic!
A teacher ♥️
Used to play his CD in the car going home after a 12 hour shift in a car factory. Always sang along to this as the sun was coming up, and I was going back to see my wonderful family getting up.
When I did DJ work in the late 80s, I always closed with this song. Introduced a lot of kids to JJ
Brilliant!

One of the few truly extraordinary songs ever written !
Incredibly powerful and beautiful. He was truly in the zone. Everything was right.
HE ALMOST ALWAYS IS
Beautiful song, I think "Night and Day" is an underrated album of the 80s, for me one of the best ever

Nice..
Love this song! Stuck in my head for several days for some unknown reason.
Saw him last year in Portsmouth New Hampshire...he ended the show with this song. 1.5 hrs no breaks and he was amazing!
Such a powerful song, with the fight for and the tender moments within. Love it!

Yea, true about the girl thing, but wasn't this about gay clubs in particular.... I just through that, he says "my friend and me" ...
Hi ! I'm sorry to hear for Graham's wife. Joe Jackson had ever been one of my prefered artist ; his songs are always very melodious, and for most of them with good rythms. Simply a Great Artist !!!
Happy Birthday! Thank you for all the wonderful songs!

I love Joe Jackson.
Awesome song
I always loved the version with the saxophone! No one ever plays that version : (
Victoria Singo-Peacock, I agree! It was live also. I wish I knew where he was singing that version.

HE IA A PROPHET MUSICIAN, FROM GOD THO?
LUV THIS SONG !!!!
HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU WISHED THIS SONG WAS PLAYED AT THE END OF A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG NIGHT?
Such still amazing....
Wouaooohhh....
Tellement beau, on cherchait une belle chanson d'amour pour passer en 2022 😌
That's sad man.
Cherish the memories
This version is so moving, so intense
Music has charms they say
But in some people's hands
It becomes a savage beast
Can't they control it
Why don't they hold it back
You see my friend and me
Don't have an easy day
And at night we dance not fight
And we need the energy
If not the sympathy
But I'm brutalized by bass
And terrorized by treble
I'm open to change my mood but
I always get caught in the middle
And I get tired of DJs
Why is it always what he plays
I'm gonna push right through
I'm gonna tell him too
Tell him to
Play us
Play us a slow song
Play us a slow song
Play us a slow song
Play us a slow song
It's late - I'm winding down
Am I the only one
To want a strong and silent sound
To pick me up and undress me
Lay me down and caress me
I feel you touch my hand
And whisper in my ear
Ask me how I'm feeling now
And I want to get near you
But I can't even hear you
But this is a fine romance
If we have to be so demanding
We need just one more dance to
Leave here with an understanding
And I get tired of DJs
Why's it always what he plays
I'm gonna push right through
I'm gonna tell him too
Tell him to
Play us
Play us a slow song
Play us a slow song
Play us a slow song
Play us a slow song
And I get tired of DJs
Why's it always what he plays
I'm gonna push right through
I'm gonna tell him too
Play us a
Play us a
Play us a slow song
Play us a slow song
Play us a slow song
Play us a slow song
wonderful!
He is amazing live!!
Such a beautiful song !!!

When i heard him starting to sing and heard the slight croak in his voice i was afraid he'd bomb the high bit in the chorus... Never should have doubted him, it almost makes it better...
Yes I noticed that. But he somehow pulled it together and it made it all the more exciting emotional and real. What a talent so stylish yet raw

"I feel you touch my hand
And whisper in my ear
Ask me how I'm feeling now
And I want to get near you
But I can't even hear you"
not underrated, it was very popular in its day, and still considered one of the best albums of the eighties
A very very sweet song by a very special person.
Underrated... too bad.. Loved his sound...
Quand revenez-vous faire un concert en France ?????
