GAME: Hi-Fi Rush

Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythm-based action game that follows self-proclaimed "future rock star" Chai, whose music player is accidentally embedded in his chest during experimental cybernetic surgery, allowing him to sense the rhythm of the world. Labelled a "defect" and hunted by the corporation that transformed him, Chai bands together with new friends to defeat the company's executives and put a stop to their plans.

It's a minor thing but Kale going from calling Chai "defect" the entire game to addressing him by name in the final mission despite only directly hearing it once in the very beginning is an example of villains slowly getting personally invested in hating the protagonist over time that I love in story writing.
Chai started as an annoying pest to someone Kale actually sees as a threat that he shouldn’t had underestimated.
This game is so peak, amazing gameplay, amazing characters, amazing writing, amazing OST, amazing art style, amazing map design, amazing enemies (except the damn birds lol) all that could be impaired is the previously mentioned birds (lol again) and maybe some deeper story but also not every game needs super deep lore so that’s definitely optional.
People keep asking whats the metal pole in his arm is originally supposed to be, and that surprises me lol. Its a 'waste collecting' tool, and has a magnetic end to pull the scrap metal. Only that Chai collects the scrap metal to make guitar haha. Thats the narrative beauty of the game, literally making music from scrap metal.
The epic story of how Akechi & Futaba teamed up to take down the evil scheme of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Reminds me of the old theory/headcanon that Futaba and Akechi were half siblings.
Main supporting evidence being that Wakaba worked closely with Shido at some point, nobody seemingly knows or mentions who Futaba’s father is, and Futaba and Akechi share a blood type, AB-. AB Negative also happens to be a rare bloodtype.

@@ladyholiday3863 I knew all of that other stuff, but not the blood type. It’s a good theory. If it was a concept during development, maybe they scrapped it since Shido already had Wakaba killed. To have Futaba’s mom’s hit made by her dad would make her the most involved out of everyone.
It’d certainly make my comment more fitting, seeing as how Chai ends up being the brother Peppermint never had.

I love how the cutscenes go between 2D-to-3D and transition whenever Chai crashes through walls, I'm surprised nobody has noted about it!
7:56:00 This is the epitome of that ProZD skit where the rhythm game throws in one final note to fuck with you.
I think the most infamous rhythm game moment of that happening is the song "Tohoku Evolved" from Dance Dance Revolution. The highest difficulty chart of it speeds up at the final hold to over a thousand BPM and then makes you hit a jump with no real way to time it. The jump is also RANDOM every time and there is NO way to see it fast enough coming, so you essentially have to take a guess or master the art of hitting all four arrows at once.
Chai fills the Pit Kid Icarus shaped hole in my heart. He’s so so so stupid, and I love him so much.

This game just feels like a massive love letter to the Playstation 2/Gamecube/Xbox era of games and i love it for it.
Along with the comedy of that same era.

hi-fi is gonna be the GOTY. as someone described it "Like a game cube game but in the best way possiable" . As far as i know the only way it spread is only by word of mouth. Which is amazing given it was just shadow dropped

@@JJ_R probably not happening, unlike SEGA/Atlus which is third-party, Tango Gameworks/Bethesda is first-party and owned by Xbox, so probably not coming to either PS or Switch. Mayyybe Switch but definitely not Playstation.

Honestly surprised Nico uploaded a stream vod that wasn’t a Nintendo Direct or stuff along those lines. I do still hope some of the older vods get uploaded; at least the ones before Nico started highlighting them on Twitch
I do feel sorry for the guys that streamed the game as they couldn’t listen to certain songs, I mean the level when Invaders Must Die came on is one of my all time favourite video game moments

Update: I finally played and just finished the game today.
Absolute masterpiece of a title and I don't even like rhythm games! One of the best games in 2023.

hated that disc 2 was a lot of reading about the extra dungeons that were cut from the game
Also I don't think I ever finished the game myself I got pretty far though j was at that boss that healed every time you damaged him and you basically had to wait till he reduced his hp then basically kill him in one shot

I dont know why but i dont like this game as much as everyone, like the gameplay is really good dont get me wrong, just the rythme thing for me is frustrating and i have a bad memory so for the combos skills was kind of annoying and the story doesnt interest me that much but this is just me, the gameplay is really damn good.
