honestly, it'd be really funny if an anime handled a 2-3 episode tournament/game arc like this, where the protags are just way out of the rest of the competitions league, that they use them to their advantage, and the two rivals are just warring in a super fast paced tdi/survivor style gameshow. classroom of the elite sort of tried something like that, but it felt a lot more disconnected and pretty distant from the rest of the show's plot. would be cool if the protag and antag were a lot more personal, the cast was smaller, closer to tdi's numbers, and it played into the overall plot/rivalry of the protag and antag, so it wasn't just a disconnected arc, but literally part of their arc for the entire season.
An idea for World Tour: Chris: “Now many of you remember the game of cat and mouse Light and L played back in season 1 and many of our viewers loved it so imagine my surprise when it looked like Light was going to be voted off early. So when nobody was looking I decided to remove some votes. Light and L’s rivalry is too good to end so soon especially after the ratings were up so much back during season 1.”

Loving this series! This, along with people determining if a fictional detective could solve the Kira case successfully, is so much better than the boring power-scaling 'can he beat Goku?' stuff. Total Drama is a perfect litmus test of a character's strength, intelligence, creativity and social skills, and with so many different seasons and scenarios, it's fun to imagine a random character being added to a specific point in the show and seeing how far they could get.

I'd like to see a video covering all the possible"they lose before the finale" timelines and what knock on effects they have(like, who wins in the remaining game with the current assemble and how L/Light have effected the balance of power and trust dynamics before leaving). Plus having that established makes it a lot easier in the future to do ones with characters who genuinelly lose early on. Not all characters are going to do super well.

I'm imagining there being a running gag where L and Light are having these long-running internal monologues like canon, and then it shifts to literally anyone else and it's basically nothing. This would culminate in one joke in, like, Episode 17 where Izzy has a monologue that takes up multiple minutes, says nothing relevant at all, and which is never adressed again.

Honestly, I was halfway expecting L to throw the the final challenges so that Harold could get ahead and win for some reason. L isn't really interested in actually winning or receiving the cash, but is working towards exposing Chris and Light- And I like the idea that he could do that and make Light lose by just being on Harolds final team. More just as a sort of 'What if' scenario in this What if scenario.
Given that Action already has two main villains to start with(Justin for the first half and Courtney for the second half) PLUS two secondary villains (Heather in the first half and Owen in the back half) plus stuff like the Aftermath Arc and the multiple failed alliances, it would be kind of madness to have both L and Light involved. So much stuff going on.
These two being on tdi would have made it go from great to absolutely amazing. XD Just imagining how interesting everything would have been with these two super geniuses is awesome. And I do love that you had L win, cuz in reality, without that one Shinigami to blackmail, Light would have lost the fight against L in Death Note. 100% there was nothing he could actually do to stop L without that since he had no way of knowing his real full name.
Actually, Misa and Rem were only added to the story because the editor didn't want Death Note to become well.. a "sausage party" and apparently said he wanted a cute girl in there lol. Despite this, their plan was always for Light to win against L. I honestly wish they told us what their plan was for that, so the people who truly thought Light had no chance of winning without a Shinigami to blackmail could change their minds on that.
@gazeinthesky I could see them planning to have Light eventually win, but the problem is in the product we got... There really wasn't any way for him to do so unless Misa could get L's real name for him. He had no way of eliminating L otherwise. At the time of L's death, he had succeeded in tricking everyone but L into believing he can't possibly be Kira, thus tying L's hands and forcing him to treat Light like he's been ruled out or risk everyone turning on him, but I mean, realistically, what could Light have done without relying on Misa, who was currently not in possession of a death note (and thus was useless in terms of getting L's real name)? Maybe if they hadn't added Misa we could have got some explanation, some 4D chess move Light had in his back pocket, but in the canon we got there was nothing indicating he had any other way to beat L lined up. He had nothing else that could actually work. And hell, N proved that even with Misa, Light's arrogance would make him lose the second he thought he was going to win. Since Light literally discarded of his Allies the second he thought his win was assured. Really, I think if he wasn't arrogant, Light could win against L at least 5 times out of 10 completely on his own, but the fact he's arrogant means on his own, his chances are more like 3 or 4 times out of 10.

Most of L's smartest moves/deductions are based on his intuition, which is technically the only reason why L stays on Light's trail and he admits it. I'm confused what you meant by Light discarded his allies the second he thought his win was assured? For Takada, if they found the evidence on her body he would've been found out, Misa had to give up her memories so Mello couldn't torture the information out of her, and Mikami was well.. Mikami. I do think that a story without Misa and Rem would've been much more interesting, even though I normally prefer female characters over males haha it's just their value was pretty much useless (especially Misa post-timeskip) and the author seemed to suck at writing women especially with how he made Rem fall in love with Light after he lost his memories.

this is peak, i had a lot of fun listening to this, don't pigeonhole yourself into this content if you get bored of it, but if you ever feel like putting in more characters or moving them to the next season i'll be here all the way.
I could see Misa doing shockingly well. She comes across as dumb when put next to Light and L, but she's pretty clever in her own right. And she's much more charismatic and likeable than Light so she could form alliances pretty easily and dictate pretty much every vote. The only question is if she'd take the game seriously enough to win. Because she would 100% throw for Light's sake.

I think Light would actually win, it also fits more thematically. Light is just a tad more unpredictable enough to beat L, while Light high off his ego is bragging about how much better he is, L would just sit their meh face and all not actually caring picking his nose (or on the surface) and then Light would freak out and start analyzing why L doesn't care. And then he'd realize L was not here to win(why would he even care about the money), and Light was merely something he could toy with while bored because his real goal was to get to Chris. Light would be having an internal crisis over the fact not only did he play into L's game but that he now inadvertently put an even bigger global spotlight on himself when the news eventually will break later about Chris being arrested and now Light will get very stressed at whenever or not he has to kill Chris and co which by extent could put more scrutiny on him because this gameshow incident will definitely become global news and reported on in Japan where its obvious that Light was the winner and the world would see that he is a lot more cunning than he lets on aswell where Kira theoretically would have had to see it and might want to enact justice against the Show runners, but would he? Wouldn't that mean Kira now has to pay attention to all global incidents too? Why this one? You get the idea, Light wining what he though was a big ego battle against L but it means almost nothing to L and he merely used Light as bait to sink a big fish would infuriate him.
Another good video! Though I guess it could have ended in a different way if Chris approached Light and made a deal with him to take out L in a future game. Either way I figured that Chris would have a contingency plan against anyone trying to arrest him and I am looking forward to a L and Chris confrontation in the future!
So basically death note without the death note, this has been a fun ride with these two and i'm excited to see what they could do in the next seasons. Although i'm very curious if we could bring other Death Note characters like Mello, Near or even Misa.

Bonus episode idea: what if All-Stars Chris got ahold of the death note between season 4 and 5, what would he do with it? And let’s say L joins in for All-Stars (and nobody has any memory of him), could L stay behind Chris’s back (or out of his focus, whatever term works for you) long enough to take him down in a rigged game?
And this would be under the assumption that L knows what he’s walking into from the very start (cause uh, big surprise, L might need every possible advantage to even stand a chance, and it wouldn’t be too interesting for him to blow his cover early and insta-die)
Been really enjoying this series. It brought me back down into the TD rabbit hole, which honestly I've probably been needing to rewatch anyway. Now I'm just thinking about a version where Light and L are cooperating instead of competing, because when (JUST TO BE SAFE: DEATH NOTE SPOILERS) Light gives up ownership of the DN Ryuk instead gave it to Chris.
I also find it curious how the intelligence dynamics work out here. Harold is the smartest member of the cast most of the time once Noah is out(which almost always happens) unless Izzy is in a 'not psychotic' mode, but he's not THAT absurdly smart and he doesn't tend to scheme unless schemed at first, so he tends to do really well if L or Light is around as he's not easy fodder bait, doesn't come off as a massive threat, and is smart enough to be useful or keep himself in. Meanwhile Heather and Courtney(the next two smartest) tend to lose early as they both use their brains to go on the offensive which backfires horribly as L and Light are more than smart enough to counter attack and wipe them out(which is also sort of what happened with Courtney in the actual show, Harold outsmarted her). I'm curious to see how this would effect future seasons. Alejandro I legitmately don't think can last too long WITH L or Light, either he's going to find a way to get them out or they're going to find a way to get him out, there will not be much co-existence. He's smart enough to hold his own against them and is incredibly charasmatic, he's the only villain in the franchise to maybe win. So any World Tour video will probably have a "Al knocks out L or Light within the first third" or "vice versa" timeline split to some degree, albeit if they're both there I could see an interesting dynamic. Meanwhile Scarlett despite being evil and manipulative is actually so smart(only behind Brainzilla) that I don't think either of the two would pick up on anything. Maybe L really late on might get a hunch, but not for a looong while, and I doubt Light would unless the specific outcome of that run ended up putting them on bad terms with eachother as happened to Topher.
I love how in every ending L has, it's "I could arrest Chris now, I have all the evidence, but let's do one more season. I'm only 99.99% sure."

Loving this series! This, along with people determining if a fictional detective could solve the Kira case successfully, is so much better than the boring power-scaling 'can he beat Goku?' stuff. Total Drama is a perfect litmus test of a character's strength, intelligence, creativity and social skills, and with so many different seasons and scenarios, it's fun to imagine a random character being added to a specific point in the show and seeing how far they could get.
with the info that light is kira in this scenario dont think he'd act out at the end as yes, he'd be trying to win but he'd also be trying to hide that he is kira

Light only really LOST it later in the anime, depending when this takes place Light's either the chillest guy ever (just barely tested the death note) or he's actively tweaking every other word (right before L died) so this is even funnier to me
Also, Misa Misa winning total drama when? That girl is so smart I believe in her (imagine she doesn't even show up ad herself but as a random character (like dressing up, not being Heather under a wig or something) to avoid the paparazzi for a while and to play "fair"

I'd like to see a video covering all the possible"they lose before the finale" timelines and what knock on effects they have(like, who wins in the remaining game with the current assemble and how L/Light have effected the balance of power and trust dynamics before leaving). Plus having that established makes it a lot easier in the future to do ones with characters who genuinelly lose early on. Not all characters are going to do super well.

I'm imagining there being a running gag where L and Light are having these long-running internal monologues like canon, and then it shifts to literally anyone else and it's basically nothing.
This would culminate in one joke in, like, Episode 17 where Izzy has a monologue that takes up multiple minutes, says nothing relevant at all, and which is never adressed again.

Of course the two of them end up as finalists lol, too many intellectual feats to lose to TD characters, specially when motivated by their own game of cat and mouse, although Light always has his ego which could be detrimental.
Next one is the one I've been waiting for all along. Also, if you do more Gen 1 seasons with those two, would really like to see Alejandro dealing with those two.
Unrelated, but just wanted to say, as someone who's been here for a while now, before the recent "Death Note boom", glad to see you get your flowers, specially after you lost your last account.
Honestly, I was halfway expecting L to throw the the final challenges so that Harold could get ahead and win for some reason. L isn't really interested in actually winning or receiving the cash, but is working towards exposing Chris and Light- And I like the idea that he could do that and make Light lose by just being on Harolds final team. More just as a sort of 'What if' scenario in this What if scenario.
Given that Action already has two main villains to start with(Justin for the first half and Courtney for the second half) PLUS two secondary villains (Heather in the first half and Owen in the back half) plus stuff like the Aftermath Arc and the multiple failed alliances, it would be kind of madness to have both L and Light involved. So much stuff going on.
These two being on tdi would have made it go from great to absolutely amazing. XD Just imagining how interesting everything would have been with these two super geniuses is awesome.
And I do love that you had L win, cuz in reality, without that one Shinigami to blackmail, Light would have lost the fight against L in Death Note. 100% there was nothing he could actually do to stop L without that since he had no way of knowing his real full name.

Actually, Misa and Rem were only added to the story because the editor didn't want Death Note to become well.. a "sausage party" and apparently said he wanted a cute girl in there lol. Despite this, their plan was always for Light to win against L. I honestly wish they told us what their plan was for that, so the people who truly thought Light had no chance of winning without a Shinigami to blackmail could change their minds on that.
@gazeinthesky I could see them planning to have Light eventually win, but the problem is in the product we got... There really wasn't any way for him to do so unless Misa could get L's real name for him. He had no way of eliminating L otherwise.
At the time of L's death, he had succeeded in tricking everyone but L into believing he can't possibly be Kira, thus tying L's hands and forcing him to treat Light like he's been ruled out or risk everyone turning on him, but I mean, realistically, what could Light have done without relying on Misa, who was currently not in possession of a death note (and thus was useless in terms of getting L's real name)? Maybe if they hadn't added Misa we could have got some explanation, some 4D chess move Light had in his back pocket, but in the canon we got there was nothing indicating he had any other way to beat L lined up. He had nothing else that could actually work.
And hell, N proved that even with Misa, Light's arrogance would make him lose the second he thought he was going to win. Since Light literally discarded of his Allies the second he thought his win was assured.
Really, I think if he wasn't arrogant, Light could win against L at least 5 times out of 10 completely on his own, but the fact he's arrogant means on his own, his chances are more like 3 or 4 times out of 10.

Most of L's smartest moves/deductions are based on his intuition, which is technically the only reason why L stays on Light's trail and he admits it. I'm confused what you meant by Light discarded his allies the second he thought his win was assured? For Takada, if they found the evidence on her body he would've been found out, Misa had to give up her memories so Mello couldn't torture the information out of her, and Mikami was well.. Mikami. I do think that a story without Misa and Rem would've been much more interesting, even though I normally prefer female characters over males haha it's just their value was pretty much useless (especially Misa post-timeskip) and the author seemed to suck at writing women especially with how he made Rem fall in love with Light after he lost his memories.

this is peak, i had a lot of fun listening to this, don't pigeonhole yourself into this content if you get bored of it, but if you ever feel like putting in more characters or moving them to the next season i'll be here all the way.
I could see Misa doing shockingly well. She comes across as dumb when put next to Light and L, but she's pretty clever in her own right. And she's much more charismatic and likeable than Light so she could form alliances pretty easily and dictate pretty much every vote.
The only question is if she'd take the game seriously enough to win. Because she would 100% throw for Light's sake.

I think Light would actually win, it also fits more thematically. Light is just a tad more unpredictable enough to beat L, while Light high off his ego is bragging about how much better he is, L would just sit their meh face and all not actually caring picking his nose (or on the surface) and then Light would freak out and start analyzing why L doesn't care. And then he'd realize L was not here to win(why would he even care about the money), and Light was merely something he could toy with while bored because his real goal was to get to Chris. Light would be having an internal crisis over the fact not only did he play into L's game but that he now inadvertently put an even bigger global spotlight on himself when the news eventually will break later about Chris being arrested and now Light will get very stressed at whenever or not he has to kill Chris and co which by extent could put more scrutiny on him because this gameshow incident will definitely become global news and reported on in Japan where its obvious that Light was the winner and the world would see that he is a lot more cunning than he lets on aswell where Kira theoretically would have had to see it and might want to enact justice against the Show runners, but would he? Wouldn't that mean Kira now has to pay attention to all global incidents too? Why this one?
You get the idea, Light wining what he though was a big ego battle against L but it means almost nothing to L and he merely used Light as bait to sink a big fish would infuriate him.

So basically death note without the death note, this has been a fun ride with these two and i'm excited to see what they could do in the next seasons. Although i'm very curious if we could bring other Death Note characters like Mello, Near or even Misa.

Been really enjoying this series. It brought me back down into the TD rabbit hole, which honestly I've probably been needing to rewatch anyway.
Now I'm just thinking about a version where Light and L are cooperating instead of competing, because when (JUST TO BE SAFE: DEATH NOTE SPOILERS) Light gives up ownership of the DN Ryuk instead gave it to Chris.
I also find it curious how the intelligence dynamics work out here.
Harold is the smartest member of the cast most of the time once Noah is out(which almost always happens) unless Izzy is in a 'not psychotic' mode, but he's not THAT absurdly smart and he doesn't tend to scheme unless schemed at first, so he tends to do really well if L or Light is around as he's not easy fodder bait, doesn't come off as a massive threat, and is smart enough to be useful or keep himself in. Meanwhile Heather and Courtney(the next two smartest) tend to lose early as they both use their brains to go on the offensive which backfires horribly as L and Light are more than smart enough to counter attack and wipe them out(which is also sort of what happened with Courtney in the actual show, Harold outsmarted her). I'm curious to see how this would effect future seasons. Alejandro I legitmately don't think can last too long WITH L or Light, either he's going to find a way to get them out or they're going to find a way to get him out, there will not be much co-existence. He's smart enough to hold his own against them and is incredibly charasmatic, he's the only villain in the franchise to maybe win. So any World Tour video will probably have a "Al knocks out L or Light within the first third" or "vice versa" timeline split to some degree, albeit if they're both there I could see an interesting dynamic. Meanwhile Scarlett despite being evil and manipulative is actually so smart(only behind Brainzilla) that I don't think either of the two would pick up on anything. Maybe L really late on might get a hunch, but not for a looong while, and I doubt Light would unless the specific outcome of that run ended up putting them on bad terms with eachother as happened to Topher.
