History of Power Rangers is a series where Linkara looks at every season of the show and offers critical analysis!
The History of Power Rangers goes to Time Force, where the Ranger become their own grandparents and the space-time continuum is considered a suggestion rather than an outright rule.

Back in the day, Ransik being able to pull his bones out of his body as swords (as well as the pain he very clearly went through doing this) made me question how this was for kids.
Friggin' metal and hardcore it was.
My how children's television standards have changed 😂
I read somewhere that this was originally intended to be aired in primetime.
Time force was dark for a power rangers series
Like some of those moments messed me up as a kid
Like Robot man’s backstory
Wild Force gave us that explanation
The reason Time Force has quality acting is because it's a UNION production. More of that, please.
That also explains when Linkara mentioned at the end that Time Force was an expensive season.
Didn’t they outsource production overseas after this season? 😂
@@MrGem123456 I think it did yeah, but they moved to New Zealand entirely for ninja storm.
@@MrGem123456 It was after Wild Force, the season after Time Force. From Ninja Storm onwards, It was produced in New Zealand ever since and it was kept non-union for years. It wasn’t until the Mighty Morphin Netflix special that the series would see a union production (unless you count the 2017 movie).
@@ramiking745well, it was /during/ wildforce.
"You guys get your memories wiped after every mission"
"I don't remember that."
"Exactly."
Three things:
1. Knowing what we know now about what David Yost went through behind the scenes of Power Rangers, Billy's wish for the future is recontextualized
2. What a surprise! Linkara actually interacted with Ransik's actor
3. I always get chills remembering Vrax's last words to Nadira before reprogramming, pleading with her to break the cycle of hate
Frax's last interaction with Nadira is some of the most powerful stuff in Power Rangers that still hits even as an adult. Frax was once a peaceful man until Ransik took advantage of his kind nature and taught him hatred thus continuing the cycle.
His last words telling, pleading with her that she doesn't have to hate humans and to never give up are so sad.
But questioning who Nadira's mother is?
Vrak: Far too complex for you to understand.
Vrak is correct, Ransik is not only the father but could be the mother too.
FRAX
Fun Fact: Vernon Wells who played Ransik, voices Samael from Darksiders.
I felt so bad for frax, turning into a full on robot in the end with nothing left of Dr. Ferix, and he dies by the rangers, note they had no idea of frax true identity or what he went through, and it was to save the future, but it's just tragic that the most tragic character of the series dies brutally!
Of the post-Zordon era, I'll argue this was the peak of Power Rangers, Lost Galaxy was them trying out new stuff, Lightspeed Rescue was the writing team applying what they learned from Lost Galaxy, and Time Force is the culmination of it all, in fact, I'm happy to argue those 3 seasons are like a trifecta of greatness, specially because of how far it removed Power Rangers from "teenagers with attitude", my personal bias is that there's far more storytelling potential when the Rangers are adults, or young adults at least.
About the DNA stuff, given how babies are customized in the future with "perfect DNA", there's a chance Alex is more of a clone rather than a descendant, wich makes sense, Wes is a pretty formidable person, in the original timeline is likely his DNA was preserved because he did great at running Biolabs, then in the altered timeline his DNA got enhanced thanks to becoming a Power Ranger, hence why Alex goes from Red Ranger, to straight up Cpt Logan's superior. (also why Alex is not concerned about Wes dying fighting Ransik)
My only guess about the Rangers damaging the timeline is how by creating new events, they are erasing old ones, kind of like Back to the Future, the timeline changing into choices that weren't made means events that lead into the birth of certain people never happen, like say, discovering futuristic things like the crystals erase the existance of the person who will discover them a few hundred years later.
Overall I have a big soft spot for Time Force because it really started pushing how far writing could go for a kids show without crossing any lines, it has it's flaws, but the acting of the whole cast and the storytelling are strong enough to overlook them.
Btw... It's amazing what a new microphone does to these videos, lol
Time force is definitely peak. The only thing that takes the shine off of it is that it is very similar to Timeranger. It’s one thing to enhance a story already been told, it’s another to completely flip the script. That’s why Space and Lost Galaxy will always slightly pip this series.
Agreed. It was actually what got me into Power Rangers! I had avoided Power Rangers from the start because the marketing for it wasn’t great in the 90s, at least in my opinion. But then a kid I was babysitting who was super into everything Power Rangers wanted to watch his first Time Force tape with me, and I was immediately sucked in. It was honestly so great and enjoyable, well-written and acted, with a gripping plot.
And even after I’ve since seen all of Power Rangers before and after it, it’s still my favorite. Although I do also especially have a soft spot for In Space, Lightspeed Rescue, Ninja Storm, and DinoThunder, they still don’t compare to Time Force for me. Maybe it’s because it was my first, but I honestly think it is also just that good!
@@rossy9095 That's valid and understandbale.
While I know the show was a near excact translation of Timeranger, I think that works in favor of the show, because they managed to rework certain elements around it and made it work out, specially with how well they manage to stand on their own compared to the Sentai side.
A good example of this working to the detriment of the show was with Samurai, it's a great case stufy of things being lost in translation, where rather than accomodate the cultural context for the Japanese elements, they simply removed them and left a half-baked idea.
@@Roler42 no it didn't, fans were very forgiving on where Time Force lagged at. They tried to have fun with time adventures, kept everyone alive to have a somewhat happy end....fans focused more on the Jen Wes saga than the silly shenanigans they ended up in. I loved Movie Madness for breaking away the mold, for a bit.
@@alfredgomez3128 And letting Vernon Wells relive his Mad Max 2 days haha
This season is the reason we have Vergil and for that, we are forever grateful.
QUANTUM POWER
You mean his English voice actor, Dan Southworth who played Eric? Because DMC came from Japan. Vergil would exist with or without him.
@@mattwo7 yes and no. First of all, Vergil didn't appear as Vergil until DMC3, only appearing as Nelo Angelo in the first game. Secondly, while the DMC series is Japanese, they have used non-Japanese actors for the mo-cap. In particular, Vergil's motion capture was performed by his English VA, Daniel Southworth.
@@RabblesTheBinx David Keeley played him in DMC1 though.

Ya know Eric might be able to do that…
@@MrAjking808 It's a reference to Team Four Star's adaptation of the 1st Garlic Jr. movie -admittedly it was funnier when Goku says that to the token mini-boss squad (who can pull swords out in a way extremely similar to Ransik)
0:12 the irony of David Yost saying he hopes the future will have no prejudice is wonderfully sad
Of all people bro
His wish is drawing closer at least. Hell we got a a lesbian relationship on the team and it's not even treated as odd in universe.
@@firepuppies4086 The fact that David Yost himself was a main character in the season where said lesbian couple went from 'a ranger and her girlfriend' to 'two rangers who are girlfriends' presumably means that he's being treated at bear minimum with the professional courtesy that every actor should get. And it was so nice to see them pivot him into the mentor-lite role. Because its a completely logical evolution of where he was when Yost parted ways.
That he wrote and played a leading role in The Netflix movie (the on targeted at adult fans) implies that he had a strong influence on the show towards the 'end' of the franchise (though we'll see if this ending actually sticks, I kind of doubt it) and might very well still have quite a bit.
Billy's time on the show rivals Tommy, and given he was harassed by other staff to the point of contemplating suicide: its not hard to infer a serious devotion to the show (because it can't have been the money, he was notoriously paid fast food money as a main character & I doubt that improved when he was shunted to a side character role...)
~~~
Serious non-Power Rangers stuff starts here:
Still one need only type New Florida Legislation into the search bar to see just how badly some people want to go back to the days that nearly cost a young man his life -that did cost many other just that, and caused an incredible amount of pain and trauma to countless more. We live in a world where teachers are being told to take standard non-pride rainbows down from their classrooms because they don't want to run afoul of new draconian laws to try and keep any hint of queerness away from children; the sinister rivival of the gay=pedo stereotype coming with the renewed pearl clutching over the old 'gay recruitment' conspiracy theory. Also, even before this bile all reared its ugly head: The U.S. still has no national guarantees against housing discrimination on the basis of sexuality or gender identity (same goes for services, one well known example being the refusal by certain establishments to make a wedding cake for queer couples)
That said, in the 1970s, if you were caught at a gay club: they put your name in the paper. You were fired, *severely* ostracized & all your professional licenses were rescinded (regardless if you were lawyer, a doctor, a freakin' hairdresser). And a lot of people didn't think this would really change, not in their lifetime. Then came Stonewall. Then came Pride. Then came AIDS, the CDC being basically told to sit on their hands and look pretty while people died. Then came the AIDS quilt, an outpouring of collective grief on the national maul captured for all the world to see. And even before then, Activism, there since the beginning, it had roared to life at Stonewall, but AIDS? Well, I can't imagine what learning people would rather I just die rather than have to deal with me existing, but it left one hell of an impression on the Gay Rights movement.
It has been bad, its been inhumanly bad. It's an honest to god miracle we're where we are now with gay rights. One we should be proud of as a society. But we cannot rest on that, there are people who want the bad old times back & too many of them are willing to take drastically undemocratic measures to 'protect the children' from a more loving and accepting society. We need to protect what we have achieved and continue confronting the inequities and injustices of society as they show themselves.
TL;DR your not wrong, let me elaborate at length on the complexities of the subject (is a special interest)
@@keigoftw then on top of that, he insisted Billy stay a straight guy as the character wasn't written as gay or bi. He deserves way more respect than he got throughout most of his tenure for sticking it out AND respecting the continuity even if it was set up to dog on him
@@firepuppies4086 in the special with Robo Rita they mention Aquatar at the end and the Alien Ranger that Billy was smitten with (when they wrote him out, they said he fell in love with a woman on Aquatar) so even in the special, they kept Billy straight. Booooo
I liked the fact that this series had a villain that they didn't actually defeat. Ransik was basically beating them easily, and it was only his choice to surrender at the end.
Ya........but it only took his daughters harm (from himself btw) JUST to surrender but I don't blame him ^^ lol
@@dylanthebiguy it's like Dracula from Castlevania, almost killing his child made the fact that he was going too far sink in. I also enjoyed that it was his mutant daughter that gets him to give humanity another chance rather than humans who he has lost all faith in stopping him.
@@eternalkingdom8 it's also like blackula when he accidentally killed his reincarnated wife twice and commits suicide via. Sun
That’s…a really good point. Sure, he had no more monsters to call on, but Ransik could easily fade into the background and just begin anew with a smaller scale organization. Ransik is one of the few power ranger villains to legitimately rehabilitate and become good, and he was rewarded by having his melting body restored to normal.
Oh, yeah. I never noticed that.
I don't think there's even been another main villain in the franchise who just chose to stop fighting.
26:58 Eric decides to leave because in a deleted scene he quits because he said there was no way he’s taking orders from Wes as the new CEO of Bio-Lab. Wes counters Eric always quits when things don’t go his way, that his father is dying and all Eric can do is think about himself. “Who’s the spoiled one now?” Wes asks Eric, which he has no reply.
It’s a real shame they cut that out. With out it it feels like he just leaves the city for no real reason.
@@battlestar976. Yeah it just ends up being random. Its much more powerful to have him say all this. Try to leave. See the Rangers in danger and decide to risk it all for their sake, even going as far as following Wes’s orders for their team combination there. Really sad they cut it
The scene where Wes arrives at the hospital, only to find his father's bed empty and he breaks down and cries thinking he passed away always gets to me. For I myself lost my father when I was a teenager.
As I write this, I'm approaching the fifth anniversary of my father's death, so I have sympathy for Wes on that thought, at least.
Sorry to hear guys, I'm feel like when my parents die I'm gonna cry like a baby everyday for who knows how long when that happens! On another note, the last person in my family I was close to was my aunt who died very suddenly, I know it's not like losing a parent, but it's mainly from the fact how she was one of the healthiest people I knew, and suddenly things just took a major 180
It’s nice considering his dad went from a selfish and cowardly cheapskate to a noble guy willing to die for the city
Also, surprised Linkara didn't point it out, but the other reason why "Movie Madness" is so popular is because it's the remnants of Time Force's original concept. The writers wanted all five Rangers to go time hopping in different time periods, except that they noticed every single Sentai Megazord fight happened in modern Tokyo, so the "Movie Madness" episodes were commissioned to get it out of their system.
Super Sentai often does episodes with a similar premise to that episode. I don't know if they got the idea from PR or if Sentai had done it previously.
@@tkayube There WAS an episode dealing with a similar premise, surprisingly enough. It happened about midway through TimeRanger, if memory serves me right.
They could’ve made it so the Monster Growing somehow sends it back to 2001, or just do a few episodes without a zord fight
hey, it gave the producers excuse to stick in clips of everyone in period outfits in the credits for the second half of the season to make it seem like there was time traveling in the show, even though it was all from a single non-time travel two part story.
Eric as the Quantum Ranger is easily one of the best Sixth Ranger storylines we’ve had. We’ve seen good guys who don’t understand being part of a team, and we’ve seen evil rangers turned into good, but I always think it’s so rare to find a hero who’s misguided but is still willing to do good in the most extreme measures possible, especially for a kids’ show like Power Rangers.
also he's voiced by the same guy who voices vergil in devil may cry, so he plays 2 badass characters that go to the most extreme lengths to get what they want, I love it
@@Aisoretaand he was kenshi in mortal kombat legacy
Erin Cahill gave one of the best performances in the entire PR series, and her Pink Ranger was a badass.
Jenn is, still to this day, the best Pink Ranger as far as I'm concerned.
Jen is definitely my favorite pink ranger overall. Yeah Kimberly did have her good moments and development throughout her series but Jen from Time Force is just badass.
That most likely comes from Jen being the first and only Pink Ranger to be the team leader.
@@SnowyWolborg i agree
@@marlonclark1896 It's characters like Jen that make me wish we would get a true female red ranger already. (No I don't count Lauren from Samurai, and if you do then forgive me but your wrong.)
Fun fact on Lucas the comic sequel straight up brings up the fact he doesn't have a character saying "Lucas ...likes cars" and Lucas gets offended over this
imagine being Alex
You get nearly killed by a super criminal, your fiance goes back in time and meets you ancestor. Only for her to realize how much of an A-hole you were and ends up falling for your ancestor.
At that point I'd just give up.
That and get drunk and probably dry hump a pinball machine given the whole time shenanigans.
I can't put my finger on why, but Eric is far and away my favorite 6th ranger. I think his position as a 6th ranger who was neither always aligned with the main cast nor always aligned with the main antagonists (manipulation/mind-control or no) is very unique.
Especially since the (kinda) antagonistic force that he was working for was literally a security contractor, I think this is the closest we ever got to a Ranger just being a private mercenary, which is kinda a cool concept.
He was almost situated as the leader of a ranger team that just didn't exist, which I felt made his inclusion in Forever Red very appropriate.
He’s also the storm that is approaching
Eric was the most motivated ranger there was.
And he knows it too.
You know, I always felt that the lives of the actors sort of sucked, which kinda depressed me, but then I see Kimberly had a fairly decent acting career, Kira from Dino thunder is a singer, and Johnny young Bosch and Danny Southwirth are popular in video games and anime.
@@Savagewolver they don’t suck. They set for life. Yeah they don’t get other roles outside of Jessica Jones.
I've never watched Time Force, but Jen was a big part of Shattered Grid, so it'll be nice to see her story.
One of the best seasons, I 100% recommend watching.
Jen is a really popular character. To me it wasn’t “oh Jen is in this story”. It was more like “Of course Jen would be apart of this”.It is cool to meet a fan that knows her more from the comic. Nice to meet you.
You definitely need a watch Power Rangers Time Force. It is still an amazing series to watch. The action is awesome, the writing is a little hit-and-miss. But, the acting is vastly-improved over Lightspeed Rescue. And the cast members of Time Force have excellent chemistry together. I highly recommend this show for newcomers.
Definitely give Time Force a watch. There's so much to like and its easily one of the best written and acted power rangers series.
Definitely give Time Force a watch. It's some of the most adult Power Rangers got with lofty themes like having our future pre-determined and choosing our own future, topics of hatred and prejudice and how it's a self-repeating cycle that can only be broken when we decide not to reject that which is different from us, etc.
Course it also helps that Jen is one of the most badass pink rangers and in alot of ways the defacto leader of the team.
Another little detail I like about the Helmets is that that visors look like stylized clock hands. From what I remember Time Force was a pretty decent show with good characters and on reflection tries to add a little bit of grey to the morality at play from both the Rangers and Ransik/Frax. Though again not as much as a kids show could go into back then but it still shines though, Eric trying to outright kill the minor criminal mutant, Ransik's discrimination, Alex's shady as hell actions (though trimmed down from his Sentai counterpart who apparently became the final boss, but I haven't seen Timeranger so I could be wrong on that part) Dr Farrax's fate and madness as Frax it's well done for its time pun unintended. So if you can get your hands on this series go for it and of course may the power protect you.
Though answering Linkara's question on why Frax's face opens up with the eyes, there is in fact a simple explanation for that. Frax is a fan of FNAF and he loves the Funtime animatronics from Sister Location.
I love their helmets it really looks like they came from the future design wise
I recall seeing that one of the suit actors for Timeranger said that the visors actually kind of hurt their eyes, and the helmets had to eventually be remade to lessen that.
Yeah the counterpart was the actual Timefire (Quantum Ranger). He basically gives the morpher to that Timefire because he was to bite it in the Timeranger version of "End of Time".
Basically he was in an infinite time loop he wanted out of, and his fate was the same regardless.
So THATS the helmet design language: stylized Clock hands
I think the reason why Lucas ended up being so much less developed is due to how relatively much this season took from Timeranger (which by itself isn't a bad idea since Timeranger is awesome)
Ayase (Lucas's original Sentai counterpart) suffered from an incurable heart disease from the future (called Osiris Syndrome). This disease was tied to a lot of his moments during the show, so Time Force cutting this part of the character (which in my mind they had to because of TV producing having an issue for that detail for a children's show), it ended up leaving Lucas without any kind of story or characterization beyond what is shown
Think instead of having the love story with Nadria happen near the end. Maybe it would have been better to have it near the beginning and this would cause a bit of a rivalry between the two. Then when it got to her redemption arc he shows up instead of Trip fights her and has her deliver the baby. That how I would have given Locus more of a role and a better set up for Nadira change of heart.
You know, the Mutant DNA makes the monster grow part actually had a reasonable explanation in the Sentai.
The patches were essentially regulators for the shrinking process. Once they're removed like they are in the show, it causes a backlash and causes massive growth.
That would explain why one of Frax's robots had one.
Of course! Don't you know anything about science?!
@@ZBot316 Yeah I wondered why a robot would have DNA...
........honestly imagine if master xandred was able to do that since in an episode he peel a scale of his skin to use it to fix daiyu harmonium
Yeah, that’s better logic.
Vrax's character feels like the darkest Power Rangers got
1. Was originally a human who was just trying to help Ransik only to nearly get killed by the very person he saved
2.While he managed to survive, he was a death door with the only way to keep himself alive was to transform himself to a complete robot. Process pretty much left him rather insane
3. Instead of the show pulling magical solution to return him to human, instead not only did Ransik find him and reprogrammed him into a servant but in the end he ends up dying. Yea. Just lying on the ground, face fulls apart, and dies. All on screen. Pretty gruesome honestly. Especially by this shows standards.
Knowing what we now know about David Yost and what he had to endure, Billy's wish is much more heartbreaking and powerful.
The story arc between Wes and his father was handled very well. They go from distant, barely on speaking terms, and slowly come to understanding.
One of the things I think Operation Overdrive did well was taking this similar dynamic and playing it in reverse. Mack and Hartford are close, then drift apart before coming back together.
After rewatching Time Force, I never noticed how much time Nadira spent with young children, both while she was evil and good.
1. A Parting of Ways- Nadira has a school bus full of children, along with the bus driver, held hostage (which is also something that would happen again the following year with Jindrax and Toxica in a similar fashion) for a $10,000,000 ransom.
2. Bodyguard in Blue- Nadira kidnaps a bio-lab researcher and goes after his daughter, who finds protection with Lucas.
3. The End of Time (part 1)- Nadira starts to see human life positively after she and Trip help a pregnant woman give birth to a baby girl, and then decides to play with a group of kids at a park.
4. Reinforcements from the Future (part 1)- It's implied that Nadira got a job at what looks like a daycare and seems to enjoy playing with kids.
Fun fact, Eric’s actor Daniel Southworth did the Voice of Vergil in Devil May Cry 3 and 5. So Dan is another one of those Power Ranger actors who also did voice acting like Johnny Yong Bosch, in like a lot of anime and video games. David de Lautour (Vergil from the 2013 DMC reboot) and Patrica Ja Lee (Jill from Resident Evil 5). Hell Dominic’s actor worked with another voice actor named Gideon Emerys in Netflix’s Daredevil.
I can't believe I never noticed you didn't talk about the suits in the original version of this video... other than that love the little additions to the video, oddly enough I was binge watching the rest of the playlist of HOPR
Heck, the petty theft mutant may not even be in too much trouble. We have to remember that all of these criminals were essentially kidnapped by Ransik, so it’s likely that he was only in there for a shorter period, but Ransik threw a wrench into that.
It just occurred to me. If the future apparently is using technology to alter the DNA of their kids to be "perfect", that makes it even WEIRDER that Alex and Wes had enough in common genetically for the morpher to recognize Wes. Unless Alex's DNA either originated from Wes's or was altered to be more like Wes's for whatever reason, which would explain why they're so identical, but at that point it's pure speculation.
Maybe Alex was altered to look like Wes. Wes is pretty good-looking so maybe Alex’s parents wanted him to look like Wes.
Personally, I like to think Eric and Ryan were just chilling separately at like a pub or an Applebee's or something when they both got the call and just decided to car pool to the fight.
TRUE XD
Maybe Ryan saw Eric:s Morpher and started talking a bit about their work, and that's when both their communicators went off
I’d actually love to see an AT4W episode talking about the sequel comic to Time Force. Maybe in a Power Rangers Month that also talked about the Psycho Rangers comic, MMPR/TMNT and the upcoming Phantom Ranger comic.
I think the reason why Time Force don't send reinforcments is to prevent large waves of changes in time.
Logical and reasonable
Jen is one of, if not, my favorite Pink Ranger. She’s such a badass and her actress (Erin Cahill) is amazing. Would love to see her return for an anniversary some day. Also, I kind of assume that Nadira was just adopted by him cause she maybe sympathized with them. Idk, just a thought.
I always thought it was because she was abandoned by her parents when she was a little girl for being a mutant and Ransik saw that happen and took her in.
I wish power rangers 30th anniversary season will be a sequel of time force it's my favourite series of power rangers and maybe wes,or Eric or jen might be their mentors 😍 but I don't think it can happen 🤔 because rumours are saying either zhyohuger or zenkaiger would adopt and These two series didn't have any common in time force which make it it's adoption lupat adoption can become a great secual of time force but it already rejected 😭
I know right
Imagine what you can do when real effort and money is put into Power Rangers. I wish they could have given every season this kind of treatment.
"Welcome, my friends, to Power Rangers: Time Force." Thank you, Linkara, I feel very welcomed.
I always found it funny Eric was supposed to die like his Sentai counterpart. On the one hand it makes sense, and I do somewhat feel it would’ve been a fitting end (Sacrificing himself to save his rival), but ultimately I feel letting him live was the right choice.
Eric deliberately took steps to improving himself: He grew past his grudge against Wes, stopped being an arrogant jackass, and overall just became a better person. Meanwhile Naoto is almost the complete opposite: He starts out a bit less of a dick (Not much but his grudge against Taysuya is at least somewhat more understandable), but as time went on his envy and greed got the better of him and pulled some decidedly scummy stuff in the last 10 or so episodes. His death is ultimately still a tragedy (He was in the end nothing but a unknowing pawn in other people’s plans and died a quiet, undignified death after one of his few acts of genuine kindness) but it’s hard to say he didn’t have it coming.
That’s kinda what makes Time Force Vs Timeranger kinda interesting to me: The two shows are, at first glance, very similar, but an actual inspection of both shows how different their focuses are. I love them both each for their own reasons however, with Time Force in particular deserving credit as the show that brought me back to watching the franchise after I was considering quitting watching it when it ended up being reaired in Argentina (I did quit it eventually during the Nickelodeon era though. Whoops!).
I'm currently watching Timerangers for the first time because I love Time Force so much. The differences largely seem cultural however I am enjoying story thus far. I knew Naoto's fate before starting the series; I'm just enjoying the ride before the end.
@@Pikachu2Ash Fox Kids had a history of keeping the words "death", "die", and "kill" out of their children's shows looooong before 9/11 happened, going all the way back to MMPR in 1993, and most notably in 1994's Spider-Man cartoon.
And like Linkara said in the video, Time Force was all filmed well before the September of 2001. The scene would have been taken out during the time of production pre-9/11, as evidenced by the scene being a raw preproduction reel with the film data still onscreen and no edits made to the audio (e.g. - ADR work, music, sound effects, etc.) rather than a finalized clip ready-for-broadcast.
@@milestinker2178 which is a bit weird since Alex does straight up say "because your father will die tonight" in footage that was aired.
17:34 come on linkara it's obvious. The q Rex is learning to draw and that's his self portrait.
Turns out the tip of the Q-Rex's tail is a little brush
Frax seriously deserved better. I would of loved it if, after he was defeated, his original persona of Fericks re-emerged and he got another shot at life like Ransik and Nadira did by the time of Wild Force.
I mean just because they had the footage of Gien dying doesn't mean they had to use it.
Agreed. I pretty much consider Frax one of the most if not THE MOST tragic villain in all of power rangers. Very similar to a particular batman villain turn "cold hearted" he was once good but then reborn and full of hatred. To this day the prison scene with him and Nadira still gets to me with how powerful and emotional the dialogue and music used there.
20:03 Oh c'mon Ransik I know you wanted to be a Road Warrior villain in a movie but can't you at least just get Beyond Thunderdome?
He has a turbulent Furious Road ahead of him...
... I'll go to the corner now...
@@sndark6241 I only just wanted to make a Thunderdome joke.
You know. The memory erasure idea reminds me of the decommissioning rooms from Codename Kids Next Door. And even they had a couple of members continue working as teen agents.
Me, seeing Wes in the intro: "Wow, this guy has the most punchable face out of any Ranger so far!"
Linkara: **explains that Wes is a rich kid**
Me: "Ah. Checks out."
Love the new ATFW rangers, also I think the lyrics should've been " timeless wonder, torn asunder" since fire and thunder never made sense to me
"torn asunder" would ruin the following line of "all to save the world". fire and thunder at least works as a metaphor for the chaos of battle.
I originally thought it was “fire the thrusters”
@@RobertRottenThe2nd torn asunder just makes sense given that time travel usually means alternate timelines and all that
I think 'timeless wonders' is honestly more literal.
Fire and thunder are two natural things that, even though science can fully break down and explain, never cease to amaze us to this day, and likely will into the future.
Though I do admit 'fire and thunder, all to save the world' doesn't really make much sense. But honestly, it's one of my favorite PR ops just for the grandeur that it presented to my imagination as a kid
Fun fact, that driver from the pilot was the voice actor for Dante from Devil May Cry, matching Eric's actor who voices Vergil
And considering that Adam's actor plays Vergil's son Nero, that's at least three Power Rangers alumni in DMC.
17:34 - Personally, I like to think Zordon (possibly with the assistance of Alpha if he was just a head at that point) drawn the cave painting of the Q-Rex possibly recognizing it wasn't of the era, but decided to leave a record of it behind for anyone from the future that might be looking for it.
Keeper from Dino Charge would also make sense.
Interesting... you just gave me an idea. What if Zordon studied the Q-Rex and based the original Tyrannosaurus and other Dinozords on it? (Or maybe it was Ninjor... I know Ninjor created the original-series power coins, but I don't know if it was him or Zordon who built the Zords.)
However I don't know if Zordon was on Earth that many millions of years ago, I thought he only came here recently (10,000-ish years ago) when Rita was first put in the dumpster, so he could stop her in case she escaped.
You could have at this point Zordon and Ninjor working together on the Q Rex Zord or at least eventually gave the plans to Time Force that was instructed to be built before the events of the series. Plus if you could retcon Keeper later have him work with Zordon and Ninjor on the Q Rex project.
@@michaelbreen7865Keeper isn't from the main line continuity and Zordon makes more sense to me at least! Though maybe Ninjor had something to do with it! Alternatively, it could have been ancient demons! Another possibility it was found by a different time traveler who recognized its importance and left clues for Time Force to find it, not wanting to alter history too much!
Your effort to go back and reupload HOPR is much appreciated!
Fun fact: Gluto in the Sentai, Timeranger, was the main antagonist
Wonder how often that has happened in Power Rangers, the main Sentai villain being relegated to henchman. Happened with Rygog in Turbo and here with Gluto. And while a major threat for a short bit, Master Vile didn't take up a whole season like his Sentai counterpart.
Also the monster from "Doomsday" back in season 1 I believe was Bandora's boss in Zyuranger.
Part of me wonders why then Gluto only fights the rangers in like 1-2 episodes if he was the main villain in the sentei.
Also, Alex in the Sentai was the final boss
@@CMWaters Happened in Dino Charge too, with Sledge actually killing the Sentai villain near the end
@@CMWaters yeah, he was called Lokar in the U.S., but in Zyuranger, he was "Great Satan" and the ultimate villain of the series.
I just love how Gluto gets downplayed in Timeforce when his Sentai Counterpart, Don Dolnero, is actually the big boss of Mirai Sentai Timeranger
With that one exception, Timeforce might be the only Power Rangers series that basically copies it’s Sentai counterpart almost exactly 😅
Time Force is one of my overall favorite series from Power Rangers. There's really a lot to love from its team, really deep episodes, good villains like Ransik and a very tragic one Frax (seriously that one prison scene with him and Nadira talking is just amazing), and just great writing and development overall. Great stuff and a definite no pun intended timeless series.
Its also to note how amazing Time Force got so involved post season, in other PR material. Outside of team ups like Reinforcments from the Future, Forever Red with Eric and Wes, Legendary Battle and Dimensions in Danger, they had a lot of stuff. Hyper Force which is meant to be an RPG sequel to Time Force with Jen as the mentor, Jen herself being a part of the Boom Studios Power Rangers event four years ago, and a graphic novel focused on her and Wes. Kind of makes me wonder if Time Force did get a Season 2, was it going to be like Mighty Morphin with Toei creating new monsters and fight scenes for Time Force, or like MMPR Season 2 where it would be a hybrid season with the Time Force rangers piloting the Wild Zords or calling them Time Beast Zords for the season or just like Zeo where they all get new suits and powers to use all of the Gaoranger footage. Kind of makes you wonder.
It's always a good day when history of power rangers gets a new episode
This isn't a new episode. It's a rerecording & re-edit of one he did over a decade ago to make it more UA-cam-friendly & quality.
@@Scsigs this is true but I feel its also an update as linkara corrects things and mentions more behind the scenes tidbits he's learned since
@@Michael-gc8cd True, but it's more of an updated version of the same episode than anything, since everything is still based off his original scripts from 2010, just correcting & adding things as needed.
@@Scsigs Because of it being an update version, I thought he would add that in the first episode Alex tells Jen there are more Morphers in the time ship, implying that only time force operatives who are selected to time travel are to use the Morphers, which is why they are DNA locked. I was hoping since he started revising the older videos that he would add this but I'm shocked he didn't. Am I the only one who cought Alex's line? Also I watched time ranger and it mentioned how time travel was not actually invented for too long, I believe 10 years at most, which tells me, at the start of the story for time force and time ranger they may have not to long ago invented the timeship itself which is why there was only one at the time. But I could be wrong. Sorry for the long comment 😂
Oh also if anyone wants to see more of Dan Southworth, Eric's actor, I recommend the Devil May Cry series. He plays Vergil and he gets quite...motivated (Also he does the motion capture for the character)
He also auditioned for Mighty Morphin, guess who ended up getting the role instead
@Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi ...uhh, looking that up, he did the MOTION CAPTURE for Ryu in Ninja Gaiden 3 (And only 3). He didn't do his voice.
But what most people forget that Dante is in this series.
@Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi yep and as that guy Katie threw out the car in the first episode
Its so weird seeing the Quantum Ranger now since the actor also voices Vergil in DMC, so he's been memed to be the same character
...
because they both kind of are, in many respects.
11:36 It brings up the age old question of "Who do you believe", and for the most part there's no reason to blindly trust either as the real story would by now be lost to history. They both give a convincing case but in the end Ransik could've easily been lying, while the story Jen gives could be based on official reports she wasn't a part of coupled with the fact her fiancee was mortally wounded by Ransik and therefore be biased.
Surprised you didn't include the fact that the Quantum Defender can turn into a sword in this version, which I remember you saying that you liked in previous seasons.
Also to point this out, there were also audio edits to some of the episodes. 1 being pretty major because not only does it include some of the visual edits, using alternate angles, but it had Ransik's actor recording ADR to censor the original line he said in an episode where he threatens the city. There were a decent amount of changes to the season from what I've read due to them needing to re-edit a lot of the older episodes pre-9/11 to be suitable to rerun on TV. In fact, the episodes were unfortunately not saved in their original forms, so Shout Factory & digital platforms that have the episodes in their censored forms. And while, yes, most of the episodes were completed before 9/11, it doesn't stop the fact that these edits happened. Some people have VHS recordings of the original versions of the episodes that were censored, but they're not widely available.
It’s my headcanon that Alex isn’t a descendant of Wes, but rather a clone, or a descendant of a clone. After all, he is from the future. Likely by then, they would have figured out Cloning Tech fully.
12:28 more Timeranger trivia: this guy was THE MAIN ANTAGONIST in the original Timeranger. And a pretty good one at that. He was greedy dick but didn’t seem to be entirely heartless. He cared for the people he was working for him, rarely lost his temper and even helped the Timerangers a few times. He was honestly another one of my favorite characters in that show!
Ransik was one of those power ranger villains to actively freak me out just for how much of a badass fighter he was.
it's telling that the Rangers don't even really defeat him at the end of the season and in fact, he beats them handily, and he only is "defeated" after surrendering when he nearly put his daughter in danger.
Time Force holds a special spot for me as it was the first Power Rangers series I watched from beginning to end as it was coming out. Everything else I had watched involving Power Rangers until that point was re-runs. So it's defiantly one of my favorites alongside Jungle Fury and RPM.
If your wondering why Eric was going to leave the City. A deleted scene show's him quitting because he doesn't want to take orders from Wes. You can find said deleted scene here ua-cam.com/video/FOUGdQWlBTU/v-deo.html
Awesome redo of this episode!
Also I think Eric planning on leaving during the whole Wes taking over his father’s company thing was to do with it being a reminder for him that no matter how hard he works Wes still gets pushed higher than him just because he’s rich and privileged. He says it in the finale, that he’s had to fight for everything he’s achieved but he sees Wes as someone who just gets everything handed to him. It’s kind of an overt “predestination VS free will” thing, that Eric tried to shape his destiny but Wes had his chosen. Ultimately though as Wes points out, just because they’re from different walks of life they both did choose to shape their own destinies, and that’s why Eric finally comes around in the finale because he realised he was wrong.
Thank you so much for dropping this now. I just got out of a five year relationship and have been emotionally unstable and just miserable this past month. So getting to forget about it for a while and think about Power Rangers again is helping me feel better and reminding me that things will be okay again. Thank you for all of the videos and for helping me get through this rough time in my life. We love you and may the power protect you.
Hope you’re doing well bud
I'd imagine that it's hard to write a convincing allegorical story about racism when the stand-ins are straight-up not human instead of humans but with a different light shed on them.
8:53 in the Japanese version, the explanation they gave as to why breaking that seal made the monsters grow big is because it was some kind of rebound from them getting thawed out after getting freeze compressed.
I had forgotten how emotional that scene of Frax and Nadira is, his screams as he is dragged still bring me to tears
I kinda like Lucas. His character was all about adjusting to 2001 and giving up his edginess in order to be more of a friendly person. Plus, he also helped bring Jen and Wes together and his driving skills came in handy as TJ's intelligence did. He always wanted to stand up and do things his way. The episode "Bodyguard in Blue" shows Lucas' transformation from a conservative guy to an emotional dude. So, thumbs up to Lucas for having character development in his own way. In my opinion, he did make an impact in his own way.
Hes not the alpha, he ia the owl-pha of the season.
When it comes to Eric potentially leaving one idea might be that to him it was the ultimate proof that he was right. That instead of being given to him or someone at the company who actually "deserved" it Wes was put in charge of Bio-Lab. Handed the position on a silver platter. Also he might have simply flat-out hated the idea of Wes being his boss.
Now why leave town instead of simply resigning from the Silver Guardians is another question entirely. Unless rent in Silver Hills is that bad.
Maybe he wanted a fresh start. His boss and arguably father figure was hospitalized with a doubtful prognosis, his rival just was handed the company he’d worked from the bottom to rise up with, which reinforces his already existing bitterness toward Wes being handed everything he’s ever had while he’s had to fight and claw to survive. He didn’t feel accepted by the Rangers as he wouldn’t even visit them in the Clock Tower voluntarily until events in “A Calm Before the Storm” forced him to. All he had tying him to Silver Hills was a rundown shack and a couple of birds. I can totally buy that he’d want to leave town to get his head together.
I think the moment when the rangers are about to have their memories erased should have been like this:
Jen:. No, everything we went through in the last, everything we experienced is part of who we are as people, and who we are as Rangers. Especially everything we experienced with Wes. Those memories, those experiences made us better Rangers, they made us better people... I don't want to lose that. *Looks to the other Rangers, they are all in agreement with Jens sentiments*. None of us do.
That would have made more sense than the nonsense Jen spouted.
The Steelix joke made me laugh, so it was worth the re-upload jus for that~
Then again those episodes regarding Katie unsure about the future probably was filmed in a different order then when they aired. Though why they chose to air them like that is unknown.
my theory on why Eric was going to leave the city is that at that time the thought of wess being in charge of him was more than his pride could bare to accept.
Honestly one of my favorite Seasons. Ransik was a great Villain and the Heroes were awesome too.
I honestly feel like he is the best overall main villain in Power Rangers. In the end, he only "lost" because he didnt want to see someone precious to him (Nadira) to be taken away from him.
Ransik and Frax were very memorable villains with their appearances and backstories. Though I feel even more bad for Frax since he was once a good helpful human turned into a vengeful hateful cyborg which sadly end up a terrible fate at the end of the series. As a reminder 'But most of you already know anyway' The episode Circuit Unsure was dedicated to original yellow ranger herself Thuy Trang as she passed away from a car accident.
I didn't know that
the really weird thing is that there were schoolyard rumors of her having died in a car crash as early as the end of 1994, as that was rumored to have been the reason she left the show and was only seen in archive footage (conveniently ignoring that the same was true of Austin St. John and Walter Jones). Strange coincidence that she actually DID die in a drunk-driving accident 6 years later
EDIT: Correction, it apparently was caused by loose gravel, not intoxication, I was wrong about that bit.
Also random tidbit of tangentially-related information: Austin St. John is a stage name. His real name is Jason Geiger, which makes him (to the best of my knowledge) the only Power Rangers actor to share a first name with his character.
Actually, there are a LOT of Jasons in Power Rangers. Counting the red ranger and all actors, there were 4 Jasons in MMPR (Jason Lee Scott, his actor, Jason David Frank, and Jason Narvy), and there have been 7 others since then (including the reboot version of the red ranger Jason).
If you guys are interested to find out more about that specific fatal car crash, I highly recommend that you guys check out the Power Rangers Playback episode interviewing Angela Rockwell (another passenger out of 5 who was also involved with the car crash alongside Thuy). As a small sensitivity warning, It DOES get graphic when discussing details of the accident, but it really is an interesting/informative listen if you want to know what happened before the accident as well as learn a little bit more about the late Thuy Trang herself from Rockwell’s perspective.
@@Ubritoons96 worth noting that Rockwood was _another_ passenger, not just the passenger. Trang wasn't driving, either. One of Rockwood's other bridesmaids was driving. There were 5 people in the car, total.
Unpopular opinion: “the end of time” is better than “countdown to destruction” in terms of power ranger series finales.
Power Rangers Time Force is a fantastic great series. I've also noticed that when series was first broadcast on Fox Kids, it was the uncensored version of Time Force because most heavily censored due to the events of 9/11.
People have no argument about Ranisk being sympathetic at all over than their black and white version of racism, but don't back it up by the characters actions.
Them not knowing about memory adaptation is horrifying, as if they constantly have it revoked from their mind after school trains them to accept the first one, then making them forget unless they’re higher ups and continuing the cycle of obedient civil servants
I think we can all agree that Time Force will always be the number 1 series in the entire Power Rangers franchise.
I realized though watching these videos in order again: Ransik feels different from previous main villains in that unlike previous villains, (And let's be fair, other villains afterwards) he actually fights and interacts with the Rangers multiple times even from the start and it's overall personal the rangers want to take him down beyond being their job.
Good lord this season is 21 years old now. That’s old enough to drink. Now I feel old and need a drink. WHERE DID THE TIME GO???
Ransik messed with the time stream. Thats where the time went
Strangely enough in the Boom! Studios Time Force graphic novel, "Sins of the Future." It's revealed that the city of Silver Hills is located in the state of Washington. Like Seattle, Washington if you know what I mean.
4:01 I feel I should point out that Tac (Circuit’s Japanese counterpart) had a pretty deep voice that actually fit him perfectly. Tac was actually one of my favorite characters in the original Timeranger!
Ransik just being purely chaotic even though even though evidence points to humans being purely altruistic to him can have a perfectly good explanation. Ignoring any dystopian nightmare about how imperfect mutants (I say imperfect because all babies have their DNA tampered with effectively makes them such though by the year 3001 it COULD be they successful changed DNA in such a way where altering was no longer required and humanity could then just birth children without defect, sickness etc.) Ransik was born out of those genetic defects.
But what if there was other stuff. What if they cracked inherent traits of overagression, depression, non-critical analaysis or worse and more dystopian like...drive and ambition. I'm not 100% making the case that qualities that are nurtured are genetic in their entirety but still. And all of this goo containing this genetic material mad Ransik. Who's nature was driven by impulsiveness and aggression fueled by prejudice where even the slightest transgression sets him off and it snowballed in to a cycle Fracks describes as an endless cycle until Ransik daughter shows even just a little bit of empathy.
In a way this does kind of lead me back to the dystopian hellscape. When you look at some of the Time Force superiors and how douche-y yet well meaning they are - my own personal experiences working in the public sector its clear that future has a very: "Its not what you said but how you said it" style approach - especially to undesirables. People in the year 2000 like Wes are a whole lot nicer or easy going perfering a mix of logic and empathy instead of purely the former. Once Nedera experiences that for herself it changes her and that opens up Ransik.
Just food for thought. How bad is the future where the best way to stop the most notorious crime leader/terrorist was to just be nice to him.
The odd thing is gluto is the main villain in the sentai counterpart, he is a mafia style crime boss named Don Dolnero. He actually had a pretty good death scene.
So I haven't seen anyone pointing this out in the comments, but it's actually impossible to see through the Timeranger helmets' visors, because they're completely opaque. So if you look closely during fights, you'll notice the helmets look different, since they use versions of the helmets that the stunt actors can actually see through.
I love how they took the true villain of the Sentai series, Don Dolnero, and turned him into the joke character of Gluto. I've seen a couple of the original's episodes and was amazed at the changes. I did enjoy this series for its own merits, of course, as well as the next few (having largely missed out on Lost Galaxy and Lightspeed Rescue before it)
@@mattwo7 My mistake, I meant the designs on certain riders. I can clearly see the eye holes in Showa riders. But riders like Decade, Ex-Aid, and Zi-O baffle me. Hell the Decade web series showed how it was difficult to see through for both actor and suit actor.
It’s worth noting some of the Sentai stuff that does make it into this show and the most I have is on Eric.
Now Daniel Southworth who plays him had auditioned for other ranger roles prior but was unsuccessful, what finally landed him Eric was his resemblance to Shinji Kasahara who played Naoto Takizawa his sentai counterpart in fact during his first morph as the explosions are happening thats Naoto not Eric due to stock footage, in 2001 that wouldn’t have been the most noticed due to TV quality but nowadays yeah it’s easily noticed.
On the note of that Morph it’s the only time the word Fire is seen on the Morpher this is again leftover footage, as Takizawa’s ranger designation was Timefire (with the regular Rangers being Timered, Timeblue etc), and notably in the sentai every time there was a morph he would throw away his hat and shout at the top of his lungs “TIME FIRE”.
Also in the sentai Takizawa was not the only Timefire he was the second one unlike Eric who is the only seen Quantum Ranger.
Eric: If you want it... then you'll have to take it. But you already knew that.
Nah this can’t be Linkara because the real Linkara would’ve pointed out how the Quantum Defender is a gun that turns into a sword, thus making it awesome.
Of course they'd not know about the memory erasure. Everyone it happened to lost their memories of it happening.
36:17 I actually have a theory about this and left a long comment about it on Linkara’s website.
Basically, I believe that Alex is Wes’s clone, instead of his descendant. That’s why Alex’s morpher worked for Wes, when it would probably need an exact match, instead of a relative. It also means that, as long as there’s a DNA sample left, Alex can still be created in the future. Also, I suspect that one of the changes that Alex saw in the timeline is that Wes would eventually end up with Jen instead of him, and he got jealous.
"No wars or traffic accidents"
I see what you did there.
With the crossover episode, I love how it's inferred that while the other Lightspeed rangers retired and moved on with their lives in other professions, Carter continued working for Lightspeed, staying true to his character showed at the start of the series that he just wants to continue saving people and he can do more with Lightspeed than as a firefighter.
I'm a bit surprised you didn't bring up the scene where Wes' father discovered that Wes was the Red Ranger, right after having part of his helmet destroyed during a massive battle. That scene was one of the most iconic in Time Force to me, especially since it was one of the few times (that I can recall) one of the Rangers being shown bleeding under their battle damaged suits.
Something that made both Time Force and Wild Force a special part of my childhood were the villains. Compared to the goofy ones we grew up with like Rita and Divatox (and even Zedd got sillier as time went on), having this genuine scary, powerful gangster who is all deviousness and brawl with a touching backstory and then Master Ogre, played by Illia Volok, was a CHILL-INDUCING villain. He had PRESENCE. Like Snape or a Dalek, something that dominates the focus, leaves no doubt of his power and evil intentions, and on both Ransik and Master Ogre, their costumes and make up were *chefs kiss* perfect. I especialy loved how Master Ogre gave me the image of an hourglass, with his dusty, sand-coloured robes and crystal ball staff, like he is the harbinger of an incoming doom. It's also fun to notice that after Rita and the Machine Empire, the americanization of Power Rangers decided to make 100% original villains, since now we can see the actors's full face and they are not japanese and speaking full english. Plus they can be much more threatening now that we can see their faces and they are less and less goofy.
