Underrated scene in Forever Red is everyone demonstrating their martial arts prowess then here is Carter Grayson being like “That’s cool and all, but I’m just going to shoot everything”
I feel seeing carter using his gun in the unmorphed fight of Forever Red is just an absolute fantastic example of "show don't tell", which was present throughout the entire fight. Every ranger in that scene was fighting differently, in a way that perfectly fit them as characters and how their personalities/experiences have shaped them as rangers/fighters. Tommy is a very fast agile fighter, TJ was going for powerful hits, Wes adapting and using the enemy weapons for himself, Cole's fighting still felt more "animalistic", etc. It's honestly impressive how well done it is.
And to add to this "show don't tell," none of the Rangers are talking throughout the unmorphed fight, and if this episode was made in a modern season, they definitely would have.
My younger sister was an extra on Wild Force. She and our mother even got to eat lunch with some of the rangers. And they said that they were really nice people.
0:05 To be fair, Sleep Time Sentai was a great show. The bogeyman and his army of phobias was a fun concept, the reveal that the sixth ranger was the mentors long lost teddy bear was surprisingly touching and the dream canon finishing move was awesome.
Okay but for real... this could be a GREAT series! A team of Sinshi battling to protect people from their nightmares made manifest. It could actually be pretty awesome if done right
Okay but this sounds like a legit Sentai show. It's better than that one where they were each a Captain America expy from another country, and the Miss America Ranger's helmet had a fucking wig (I am not joking, it's terrifying).
Let me get this straight The Power Rangers that are about nature tend to use metal vehicles like cars and motorcycles But the Machine Empire are the ones that are using horses. Is that some kind of in-joke from the writers?
@@shadowlinkbds They were late additions to the Empire, joining them like how A-Squad betrayed SPD, due to the fact their show never got a proper ending.
@@shadowlinkbds well ever the show got cancelled I guess they thought turning themselves into pure robots and joining the machine Empire would be a trade up
An interesting Tidbit is that in the Wild Force Episode , “Soul Searching”, Bulldozer Org is actually voiced by Jason Faunt, who played both Wes and Alex in Time Force.
No way Linkara is gonna see this, but on the off chance he does: I love history of power rangers because of you. When I discovered the series (and ultimately your channel) I loved your sense dry humor and wit. I liked the retrospective, learning about a show I only occasionally got to see as a kid and how it has a surprisingly devoted following to this day. But I loved it for you. Your enthusiasm, your trivia, and just your two sense about what you like in a story or music or tone and so on. This show in a lot of ways is unfiltered, sincere to you. And even if I may disagree on it, I love to hear your perspective and enthusiasm. I’m sorry that, if even joking, your enthusiasm for this project has waned and turned more into a work project. Or even if understandably and gradually the love and creative spark just fades (we all have that it we’re honest). Especially I’m sorry that people may harass or just pester you over this project. I fell in love with the retrospective, and frankly all content from you and others, when it comes from the heart. Sincere and from a place of caring. And while I hope that enthusiasm and love is still there (and fans be patient and respectful), I hope more you follow what makes you passionate. What brings you joy and fuels your creativity, your soul you could say. No project like this worth your happiness and joy. After all, that is key to making this amazing. Making you amazing. :D
Andros bragging about killing Zordon is super weird and best left as an outtake, but his brag in the final cut ("I saved two worlds, how 'bout that?") is charmingly humble, because he didn't just save Earth and KO-35, he saved the whole universe in Countdown to Destruction.
@@IgarappappaAnd then their unique reactions to knowing that Andros did it regardless of the context. Compare that two the outtake's reaction “I killed Zordon” “Oh yeah? Cool.” “…”
A better boast would have Andros say that he destroyed the entire United Alliance of Evil before looking sad and saying he wished he could have done it another way. It could have been followed by someone like Tommy or Jason comforting him and saying that any one of the Rangers there would have done the same thing if they were in his shoes.
It feels like the intention of him saying "I'm the one who killed Zordon," is a way of him saying, "Hey you're all cool and talented, but have any of you destroyed anybody as greatly POWERFUL as Zordon?" So it's a brag of him flexing his potential strength and greater power. It's just that because of the actor's line delivery (and I believe Christopher absolutely WOULD say something like that given how he talks at the morphicon videos I've seen him in hahaha) it comes out more full of unnecessary pride, which they correct with the humbleness you said with him going "I saved TWO worlds."
38:45 I love that throughout the entirety of Time Force Ransik was shown to be a formidable fighter, doing things like kickflips and round houses and taking on the entire ranger team at certain points. But here he's putting his arms at his side, hands out like he's ready to aggressively tickle the monster into submission while making probably my favorite noise and face he's ever made. The little shuffle he does as he runs toward the monster tops it off.
They may have been the main villain’s evil generals, but you can’t deny that the friendship between Jindrax and Toxica was definitely one of the most charming aspects of this particular series (both of which in the Sentai and its American adaptation).
I also really love how Jindrax doesn't have the generic 'Gravely, Villain Voice' used for so many other PR villains; that and he's actually got a personality and some charming quirks despite being a skilled fighter in his own right. Jindrax and Toxica are really two of the most underrated PR 'villains'.
truly unfortunate Disney never had them in human form either at the shop or a dirtbike event enjoying having a good time, or even something about how "these rangers" fight or their theme. Something casual like that to reference the season that came before without having a team up or anything direct.
I thought he’d wait til later in the month for this one. The original version was pretty long though that’s probably because it used a lot of episode footage
Apparently, according to an interview with Taylor's actress, they were told that they couldn't act _too_ well and there was even a person on set to enforce this rule. So if the acting seems mixed on this season, that's at least partially to blame.
For those who don’t know wild force is a series that deviates very little (in most cases) from the sentai (big differences being princess shayla, jindrax & toxica and cole) as was relatively common of some sentai the group only referred to each other by their colour, this is because they basically had to give up their civilian lives to become rangers, which is where Taylor faking her own death comes from (her counterpart similarly being an air force pilot) this gives announcing their names in the final role call a little more kick because this is the first time they really announce who they are.
The rangers also all died in the Sentai with their mecha only being brought back cause red and silver were prepared to sacrifice themselves to save the others
From what I understand Master Org/Adler is mostly an original creation of Power Rangers. With Gaoranger's Org Master being just front for the real leaders (who turned out to be the generals).
My personal opinion on Merrick and Zenaku at the end is that the Zenaku that is seen then is not really there it is the representation of Merrick’s wolf spirit. Somewhere in his travels Merrick meets the order of the Claw and never reveals his name to them. During this time he meets RJ and teaches him about the wolf spirit.
Oh, that would make so much sense, especially for RJ. See, Merrick runs into a young RJ, who is absolutely miserable due to his father's strict teachings and having to live up to his expectations and forced to learn the Shark style. But meeting and getting to know Merrick is what leads to RJ wanting to do things his own way, learning the Wolf style instead and possibly end up developing his 'surfer dude' personality. This ultimately causes a big fallout with his father but passes the exam to earn his master stripes. Then, RJ left and started his own pizza business but let the Order of the Claw know that if they need his help, just call him. Which is why before he died, Master Mao sent Casey, Theo and Lily to RJ.
@wchan39 That could alsp explain how RJ got ranger connections to make his Solar morphers later on, also explaining the friend of a friend comment he made about them since Wild Force's morphers were already made and none of the team is overly technologically inclined like we see in other teams (Danny and Alyssa have more biology based backgrounds based on thier careers and interests and Taylor might know engineering given that she's a military pilot and that kind of degree is quite common but that's not the same thing as Cam or Billy or Dr. Fairweather being shown working with ranger technology)
About Merrik's characterisation: It is possible to be a loner but still help a team. Being a loner doesn’t necessarily mean only working alone, just that you’re more content in your own company rather than the company of others. I would know being a loner myself. There’s a difference between being a loner and being antisocial, something I think too many writers forget because it’s just easier to write a “I work alone” character to add conflict. In reality one can be largely a loner but still work as part of a team if need be. While I won’t say this was the mentality of the writers on a show like Power Rangers going into some deeper psychological understanding of the mindset of a loner (especially on a season with a VERY basic environmental theme) and will chalk it up to just narrative convenience of matching the Sentai stuff, it’s still nice to have them break loner stereotypes, accidental though it might be. One can be a “lone wolf” and still have friends, heck if anything they make for better friends because they don’t often let people get close to them so when they do they keep them VERY close. Anyway, great to see another remastered episode and seeing it so soon after the last one. Keep up the awesome work sir!
This is my personal favorite season, aside from SPD and Dino Thunder. In fact, your original videos of HOPR for Wild Force was how I was first introduced to you and your content. So yeah, I have Power Rangers Wild Force to thank for discovering you and watching your reviews of comic books!
Favorite series, hands down! No matter what goes behind the camera, holds a special place in my heart. EDIT: You're not going to kill the Org Credit Card joke?
The alternate theme in the promo is good, but it feels like there's supposed to be more to it that we never get to hear. As far as I know, if that was just a snippet of the intended theme song, the full length version has never been found.
Monsters: *exists Carter Grayson: So anyway, I started blasting Edit: my theory is that Zen-Aku that appears in the ending is not physically alive. Merrick sees Zen-Aku, because Zen-Aku reigned over their body for a long time. Zen-Aku is a soul living inside Merrick, similarly to Johnny Silverhand living as an engram in V's body in Cyberpunk 2077.
"Aye-yai-yai I'll knock you back so hard you'll think this was still the sentai!" Okay, that made me laugh WAY harder than it should've xD Also I didn't expect the reupload of Wild Force so soon! Sorry I'm just soused to getting these every few months, you're really serious about cranking these out more often. Don't overwork yourself! Also Animus is what turned me off of Wild Force. Even as a kid I saw that his solution to the problem was was the definition of the cure being worse than the disease.
Wow, two updated HOPR in one month? Looks like the time off did you well, Linkara. I was certainly curious how you'd handle updating this video given the controversy around it's lead. Glad to see that was handled quickly before you focused on the show proper and told some truly funny jokes. Actually, this might be the funniest HOPR yet. Alpha threatening to kick everybody's ass is hilarious! Given what he did in the Justice League crossover I'd be genuinely weary of pissing Alpha off...
@@OmegaX9 Either way, Alpha is way scarier than people give him credit for. This is the same robot who kidnapped children simply because he was lonely on Christmas. Never cross Alpha.
It kinda sucks Cole as a character has become so controversial because of the actor’s action years later. He’s still one of my absolute favorite characters from the franchise and part of why I love wild force all these years later.
Regarding the Medina controversy. I tend to detach actors from the characters they play, it makes it easier to cope with liking the characters in instances like these.
@@AT-il2ej True. But it still makes the viewing experience easier to bare when I don't have to remind myself about it constantly. Besides, it was said to have been done in self-defence.
I have nothing but affection towards Wild Force these days. I was more than a bit conflicted when it came out due to the transition towards more "accessory" zords instead of a few solid ones, but I loved a lot of the plot points.
@@FixTheWi-Fi Quite true. They even had a minor plot were the bear zords overwhelmed the lion zord, hence the need for the soul bird. But it just felt kinda lazy especially as time went on as we got series like Ninja Storm which had a bunch of weapons.
The Kite berates the rangers for their aleged "failure to stop pollution" IMO is very reminiscent of how Alex came back out of nowhere in Time Force and berated the Time Force rangers for the changes in timeline as well as their mission to capture Ransik. In both cases we have a related to the plot figure that was presumed to be gone is homehow alive/revived and once the reveal is made this figure is more or less being a d*ck to the rangers. But then they realize the error of their ways (Alex finding out the team has gelled well with Wes as the Red Ranger and the dedication of the Wild Force Rangers to Kite/Animus) and everyone is back on good terms. The thing that irks me in Kite's case is that it as all a part of some bizzare test - uh hello, they had plenty of time to prove their worthiness up until this point and they did. Also, Dr. Adler's turning into Master Org makes him the first villain to be evil by pure choice rather being evil by design (like Rita, Lord Zedd, the Machine Empire, Divatox, Scorpius, Trakeena and Queen Bansheera), raised evil like it was with Astronema or as a result of a freak accident and rejection like with Ransik. Oh, and Cole's "I'm a guardian of the earth" scream is miles better than Troy's "Robo Knight, you have a mission to fulfill"
That part with Animus also bugged me, since he was basically being prejudice towards the rangers, who had been working their asses off to stop the Orgs multiple times. Then he gives Cole the Wild Force Rider at the end, which came across as Animus being a kiss-ass.
alex had a reason being the rangers are changing history such has him being alive, and any time travel base media tells you it usally not good to mess with the past to much. animus tho was justa striaght up jackass
@Will N Here's the thing though, Linkara already addressed all the problems with Kite/Animus in the video, with a ton of good counter arguments. Stuff like the 30+ episodes of them showing their dedication to the task, as well as points of how nature does go to war on its own front, even without humans. Plus, and I can't say this enough, unlike Alex from Time Force, Animus doesn't rescind what he said about humanity sucking, and instead gives Cole a motorcycle. Which as I said before, makes him sound like a kiss-ass.
Funny thing; when I was younger, I always thought that her blood-red horn was simply a part of her helmet with her costume. But then, we got to 1:05:26, and you realize that the thing literally does jut out of her head, unlike Master Org, and then it seriously makes you question how she was able to keep that thing to stay put. As a matter of fact, you pause at the right moment at 29:53, you can even see her skeleton and her horn is also a "bone".
If memory serves me right, the reason the rangers were looking for the soul bird was due to the Lion Zord. Trying to use Double Knuckle, the name of the Wild Force Megazord using the bear zords together, was apparently a significant strain on it and the soul bird was needed to heal it.
To this day, even after the Dino Team Up Beast Morphers episode, I still consider Wild Force's team ups to be some of the best, if not, THE best the franchise had to offer imo. Also may be just me but REALLY wished they could explore the dynamic of Zen Aku and Merrick in some way or another. I'm still not sure if Zen Aku is still alive or maybe he's just part of Merrick's conscience. Still, would love to see them two again in the future. Oh, and what I like about the ending scene in Forever Red is TJ mentioning how one time him and his team were baked on a giant pizza. Nice to see the writers acknowledging how dumb that episode was lmao
Well given how Heroes Of The Grid has both I think the idea is that yeah, they're now two separate entities. It could be explained that since Merrick spent so much time as Zen Aku, the wolf mask took parts of Marrick's personalty and memories and developed an identity of it's own separate from his but they are connected by that so where one goes, the other follows.
"It'd be really hard to flow that many of them" in reference to the theme song, I must tell you about a video called "Forever Red Finalized" by a user named GreenRangerPower456, guy made exactly that with fantastic audio editing and extensions on some of the morphs to ensure the themes flowed perfectly.
@@mattwo7 Not to sound like I'm blowing smoke up your ass (which'd be plain weird for the UA-cam comments section), but I suspect you've just got a more sophisticated ear for music than most people and so are more thrown off by the sudden differences in various aspects of the music's structure between songs, many of which are genuinely pretty subtle (hence why a lot of people are super-impressed by it). Similar idea to how having perfect pitch can really screw with people's ability to enjoy music that sounds phenomenal to most. _Not_ having that to anything like the same degree, I only really picked up on the tempo change going into Wild Force; otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed it.
@@Pineappolis I do have a decent pattern recognition ability (not sure if talent or skill) but I doubt it's above average. I can't even tell a png from a jpeg even if I focused.
Also, for the Serpentera scene in Forever Red, the writers could’ve made it where Cole used the Wild Force Rider to get to Serpentera and then Cole fights General Venjix inside the cockpit of the big zord.
I love this alternate plan. Doesn't really fit the "feature the wild force rider" directive though. What they chose was stupid but hey...can't say the rider wasn't obscenely powerful.
51:14: my personal favorite explanation for Bulk being back from Mirinoi is that Professor Phenomenus was, at heart, a mad scientist, therefore the Bulk on Mirinoi is eather a robotic duplicate or a clone, and the real Bulk never left earth
I agree Wild Force is a pretty good season and I think it's mainly because there was still enough people around Tzachor to keep him in check with his hyper sentai obsession. His major opposition Judd Lynn was gone but people like Jackie Marchand and Amit Bamhuk were still around here. This was not the case for his run in the neo saban era.
Count me in as well with that sentiment. For that matter couldn't they get Bruce Kalish or Doug Solan and Ann Austin instead of Tzachor for overseeing Samuari and MegaForce if they couldn't get Judd Lynn?
I'll always have a soft spot for this season, as it was the first season of Power Rangers I've ever watched. (I was introduced to Power Rangers via a Time Force coloring book.) It resulted in about 5 years of me watching episodes of spandex clad people fighting rubber suited monsters. Also, I can't help but feel like Tzachor trying to faithfully adapt the sentai here was foreshadowing to how Samurai and Megaforce would turn out.
I have the same backstory with Power Rangers except it was a Mighty Morphin Gameboy Colour that was my first introduction. Wild Force would forever be held in my heart as the first Power Rangers show I watched. I still remember as a kid getting excited watching the new version and buying Gameboy Games of it like SPD and Ninja Storm.
Agreed This, Ninja Storm, and Dino Thunder were my favorites as a kid. I didn’t mind SPD and Mystic Force but by that time I felt myself getting too old for it Mystic Force was the last season I saw
This was probably unintentional on the writers' part, but I've noticed that Merrick's name sounds kinda similar to Sir Marrok, a VERY obscure Knight of the Round Table from Arthurian Myth who was turned into a Werewolf at some point.
Considering that Merrick and Shayla sort of have a Lancelot/Guinevere thing going on, it wouldn't surprise me if that was something that was on the writer's minds, whether consciously or not
@@ZeroAngel92Oh, yeah! That's right. I never noticed that before. Though, in this case, there's no love triangle that causes the disbanding of the team.
Ooh, I really liked your expanded rant about the Animus arc. I actually thought that sequence in the original video felt a little underexplained (ironically.) This version is much more nuanced and well explained, and does double duty by showing how, even when delivered as a rant, how much more interesting and effective a thoughtful and explored position is in contrast to the show's undercooked pablum. Very well done here.
Ironically the three examples of plants 'going to war against nature' that Linkara provided are all examples of plants that humans moved to new ecosystems without the communities of organisms that have evolved to deal with those plants' quirky behaviors or capabilities, thus allowing those plants to overwhelm the healthy ecosystems they were allowed to infest. Within their own native ranges those plants are not exactly 'obliterating nature'...though when given again human assistance can be a nuisance. Similarly I've found that typically when people complain about 'overpredation' it is one of two things. Either humans have degraded prey habitat or prey populations themselves so badly that it allows predators to become an existential crisis as they are allowed a level of over-efficiency in searching for said prey species (something I run into with game species...and landowners wanting to cull coyotes....when the real problem is you want those game species to produce offspring in a patch of habitat 10s of acres in area, an area that a predator like a coyote can grid search in a night) or we're again dealing with an introduced predator species taking out naïve populations such as with say brown snakes in Guam taking out the bird populations there or....non-flying placental mammals in Australia decimating marsupial populations. Again the predators aren't the ones 'going to war with nature' they are capitalizing upon something humans have done (either habitat fragmentation or being moved to a place where none of the prey animals understand the nature of the predator or have millions of years of evolution to deal with its tricks and strategies). Whilst I'm sure some predator ate the last of some species somewhere in geologic history because yes there's a lot of extinction in geologic history, I would presume that predation was probably the last in the list of 'bad things' happening to that hypothetical species.... Cataclysms happen yes, and nature is not kind... And whilst humans are 'part of nature'....we have also insulated ourselves pretty well against the worst that we've wrought...thus allowing ourselves to become somehow worse.... Whilst other cataclysms of nature are generally sourced to abiotic events (volcanism, Milankovich cycles...asteroids....etc)... We're kinda the first ecological disaster that can think and choose....which makes us different than past 'nature got mean' events. The only other example I can think of, of a biotic-sourced mass extinction was the oxygen revolution when photosynthesizers oopsy-doodled a genocide of the obligate anaerobe biosphere that was present in the early ramblings of a biological Earth.... The above being said....this show is indeed....cloying in its Gaia-hypothesis sensibilities and utopitization of nature. It is far too down the Muir side of the conservation ethic...which is well meaning but functionally impractical as it strives purely for preservation without harvest or extraction.... And whilst one can overharvest and over extract there is a conservative approach to that that can sustain the extraction and harvest. It is not easy, and requires humanity to exercise restraint, reduce our resource needs (preferably without reducing functionality but....that's a conversation in and of itself). It will also require systemic changes to the way we live our lives and approach the world...requiring government regulation and societal impetus to force corporations to be better...not just say they are getting better....
Thank you Linkara for the new History of Power Rangers Wild Force. Also I really love the new background logo of HOPR. Especially your own Atopthefourthwall Ranger Team
Reinforcements from the Future is my second-favorite teamup, only topped by Thunder Storm. The industrial site where the climactic battle is has been used before (the MMPR did the Dairanger poses there), even in just literal passing (Psycho Pink travels through its transmitters, for that specific example), so revisiting locations like this for the final traditional teamup in America felt right

I really appreciate having both Time Force and Wild Force in such quick succession, especially considering during the first time you first produced this series a number of people were bugging you about you not turning out the content fast enough. You give more than we deserve Linkara!
My personal theory on the Zenaku at the end is that it's a spirt, he's not properly there, just sort of existing as part of Marik now. But he is nether good nor evil. He is just there. Maybe as a shadow to our wolf?
A new History of Power Rangers video already? Awesome! Since this is on Wild Force, I got a chance to meet Jack Guzman (who played Danny Delgado) at a convention and he was a really cool guy!
9:26-That random narrator is voiced by Michael McConnohie whose done a lot of anime/video game voice overs like Uther from World of Warcraft, Astaroth from Soul Calibur, Kano from Mortal Kombat 9 and X, Enma from Naruto and Emperor Charles from Code Geass. He’s also done a few monster voice overs in Power Rangers during the Fox Kids Era.
I loved how this season gave us a sort of hierarchy of the enemies, thus the higher you go, the stronger they are. I also loved that the three generals were all eyes, all ears and all mouths respectively (not counting the beefed up Toxica). Also I'm kind of a sucker for those thematic threads that really don't matter, like all Saiyans being named after vegetables, all Pokemon Professors being trees, all the One Piece Warlords having a loose animal theme, and so on and so forth.
Saying the original Serpentera for Forever Red was "...colored purple of all things" has me wishing Cosmic Fury had made it into the a repurposed Dragon Zord
Glad to see the wildforce video getting it's reupload and I am glad to see some changes. I especially like how you explained the whole music issue with the song about nature and while I do disagree I still think it is a good explanation that gets across a lot of your ideas as well as explaining new developments in the fandom or in interviews that better explain stuff, it's always a treat to see. Although I will say it is sad to see so many clips cut down because of copyright especially the last stand as that is easily one of my favorite scenes in the show with so much cheesy emotion and yet still badass acting we get, also because of the rain because it makes everything better when it comes to epic moments.
I think the handling of talking about Medinas criminal history was done well, on average the red rangers get more focus in power rangers than most any other character, so for the lead of this series to now be a convicted murderer it would be incredibly tricky to dance around that important fact. I’m wondering if the same will be handled about Pua Magasiva who plays Shane in the next series as his death in 2019 via suicide is itself not without controversy as he had been convicted of domestic assault an overall less serious (but still serious) charge and allegedly did so the night of his suicide, and whilst both are heavy topics for Power Rangers, it’s a good chance that everyone watching these videos and reading this comments are mature enough to understand why some of these things are necessary to talk about. As for forever red I think an interesting way of getting both Jason and Rocky in would be simple and could work within the continuity of the series, Jason could yell “Tyrannosaurus” and Rocky “Red Ranger power” since they’re both separate powers and Mighty Morphin is a title as opposed to a power, and to distinguish them both in battle have Jason summon the Dragon shield implying that he retained it after Tommy lost those powers. Also I met Steve Cardenas and actually asked about forever red and according to him he was asked to Take part and he was ready to do so, and they then filmed without him and didn’t give much time to respond, although there were plans to feature him anyway even with Jason, those being that he was going to be Tommy’s Butler and heavily imply he was still Zeo Ranger III Blue, as he never gave up those powers
I think using the ninjetti outfit would be better. Not only is rocky more associated with being the red ranger with the ninja powers, but it would also be a representation of an American power ranger concept like the titanium ranger from light speed. It’s all original footage anyway, so why not?
If I remember correctly, one of the theories as to why the Zeo Powers are never utilized more often after the Zeo Season amounts to: Since the Zeo Crystals were stated to be one of, if the, most power things in the series, the drawback to using their powers is that the users would eventually get overwhelmed by the power themselves, if the utilization if continuous. Basically, Tommy, Adam, and the others who used the Zeo Powers aren't using them no more unless they have little choice because it would be too risky.
I think Zen-Aku is my second favorite version of the Green Ranger type story (O.G. of course being number one.) And for a few reasons: 1) Stealing the Zords. Sure, it's been done again, but this was the first time, and seeing that happen was such a shock. 2) Reappearing at the end to go on a journey with Merrick. Like, that was my favorite part of the epilogue. I would read a spinoff seeing what they do on their journey to atone for their deeds as Zen-Aku.
Shayla’s best pics for saving the planet: guy who sells flowers, former air force pilot, college student, guy who lived in the wild all his life, and kid who worked at a bowling alley. Jk btw, I love the Wild Force team. They may not be the most developed, but I grew up watching this season with my brother so I have a soft spot for them.
2 "bad guys" have lived in my head rent free for over 20 years - Ivan Ooze who i don't think was brought up -Zen Aku who I've always loved the armor and flute of These 2 baddies encouraged me to look into Power Rangers more and as this Playlist was the longest I figured it would have the most info and ve the best background noise It's been 3 days and all I listen to at home and work while stopping to do personal research Late as HELL to this but man thank you for the series. All I wish was it was 1 long video to binge but a Playlist is better than nothing. Thank you
Easily in my top 5 PR seasons of all time. I love the story, the characters (aside from Kite/Animus who I found to be average, a know-it-all and annoying at times), the villains, the team-ups etc. Overall, a definite 9/10.
It seems pretty interesting how the main villain from the previous year changed to save someone he loves at the end of his respective series, while the main villain in this series murdered someone he allegedly loved and regrets nothing. That one detail, in my opinion, is why I think master org is more evil than ransik. Even though ransik is more iconic.
With all future controversies aside, Wild Force is a pretty good season and it very well could've been a LOT better if they didn't have to go through some "growing pains" after having to transition to another parent company. Don't get me wrong, certain ideas are pretty cool like the zords being more than just giant robots, the hierarchy present in the orgs being part of the monster's designs, & my personal favorite, Merrik being a "corrupted champion" that later has to struggle w/ a clear sense of guilt over his actions when he wasn't in control. While there's a lot more good things I want to talk about there's also quite a few plot inconveniences, some things that didn't age well due to the time it came out, & probably a lot more that I can't see through my rose-colored nostalgia goggles. Overall, I think the season is in the top 10 of the entire franchise (though I'm not sure how hard that is considering there's only about 25 or so seasons, some of which are "Super" seasons which are basically only the 2nd half of another season) but there are still quite a few that I'd rank far higher. Still a pretty cool & crazy finale though, 8/10 could've been less hammy
It's cool that you're doing the history of Wild Force and right on time for its 20th anniversary seriously I was expecting to watch this next year but this is even better plus I love some of the new jokes you through in this one than the original video you did of this
My notes: That quip about Alpha kicking their asses is a lot funnier when you remember that he ended up being the one to train the rangers in the 2017 movie... and actually did kick their asses there, if I remember correctly. I never noticed the sashes were different from ranger to ranger. Neat! For the Cell Phone morphers, it's surprisingly not as common as you think. Zhane from In Space, Wild Force, Mystic Force (Core Team only), Operation Overdrive (Core Team only), RPM (Red/Blue/Yellow), Samurai, Robo Knight (for switching between Zord and Regular form) and Super Megaforce. It's only present in 7/24 teams, or a little over 1/4 of them overall.
And of those, Mystic Force's were magic wands _disguised as_ cellphones Overdrive's at least had an interesting activiation method RPM's again had a neat way of powering them Samurai's doubled as caligraphy brushes which was pretty cool and SM's was also the 'lock' for the Ranger Keys
@@FixTheWi-Fi The Samurai one's a weird case. Lauren's was the calligraphy brush (It was actually one of the ones used in Shinkenger), while the others used theirs more like they were light writing since they swapped out the brush for a laser pointer. Antonio's was entirely digital, effectively texting to use his symbols. Either way though, it was one of the cases where they looked like phones, but mostly weren't used as such to morph (Antonio being the exception there). The Sentai version of the Gold Samurai Morpher, the Sushi Changer, was even more unique. Genta (Antonio's counterpart) had designed it to pair up with his foldable secret discs (the ones he used to morph or call his zords). When one of those discs was folded up and placed on the top of the Sushi Changer while it was closed, the whole thing was designed to look like a piece of nigiri sushi.
If there's ever a reboot of Power Rangers like Hasbro seems to want to do after Cosmic Fury... well, firstly, I think that's probably a bad idea, but secondly, *if* they're going to do it, I wish they'd compress some of the stuff that happened in the ancient past down a bit. A lot of these events feel like they should be connected - the great battle where the Galactabeasts lost their powers, the war between Orgs and Animaria, the Beast War, etc. etc. - but besides the connection between Lost Galaxy and Wild Force's timelines, the timescale's all wrong.
Another great episode, ContentID issues aside. Now for some thoughts about more specific details that stuck out. 1. Digging the new "History of Power Rangers" logo. Sorry I didn't comment on it last time. 2. The only in-universe explanation I have to offer for why the planet-destroying Serpenterra was taken out by the "Wild Force Rider" would be that changes made to accommodate the new power source made it vulnerable to a chain reaction set off when Cole drove his new ride straight into Serpenterra's mouth.
Grew up with this season! Still one of my personal favs! I adore the Time Force crossover and loved the Forever Red special! I’m so glad that in this new upload of Wild Force you re-do your argument towards the environmental message of the show from being “preachy” to “oversimplified” and “not taking advantage of HOW they could have told the message”. Often people dismiss environmental messages in media as a way of saying “oh, it’s gonna be preachy” when really they use it as a way of dismissing the issues that are more relevant now that it ever was before (hence all the Captain Planet jokes haha). Here you recognise the importance of these issues, just not the way Wild Force went about it.
I'm getting the feeling being a Red Ranger is a curse to do bad things... Medina's homicide, Pua Magasiva's domestic violence, and now Austin St. John's COVID fraud situation.
As someone who just recently rewatched “The Princess and the Frog”, I'm honestly confident in saying that the scene at 1:06:55 predates Doctor Faciler’s death. If you're unsure what I'm referring to, I'm talking about the protagonist indirectly causing the villain’s death- Tiana smashing Faciler's voodoo charm compared to Cole shooting Toxica with the jungle blaster completely by accident. The main difference is that while Faciler got dragged to hell, here, Toxica gets “vaporized” to hell. Plus, Jindrax eventually brought Toxica back to life while Faciler remains dead. And if you do not believe me, the cutaway gag at 1:08:31 proves my point.
Interesting fact:Master Org's costume was reused from Gorma XV from Gosei Sentai Dairanger, which was the sentai counterpart to season 2 of Mighty Morphin'.
The reason the armadillo and rhino zords were summoned in the sentai was because the lawnmower org was grown giant sized and cut the bison zord rather grotesquely and the bison zord was sidelined here in wild force yeah plot convince playhouse
I forgot this was the season with the Red Ranger Teamup. Gotta admit, it brought a tear to my eye when I saw it. So well done, Edit: Also, it's always good to see Bulk and Skull
I can't help but laugh at the point at 47:15 because in that same vein, our planet has a family of Ficus literally dubbed "Strangler Figs" that grow on other trees and basically choke the host plant out, killing it. Our ecosystem is good and important to life on this planet, but we also live on a nightmare word that absolutely consumes itself, even without human intervention
My Personal feeling on why Merrick felt responsible for Zen-Ali’s actions and guilt is actually two fold: - One Zen-Aku’s initial actions when he first put on the mask that resulted in so much damage and death, - and second, and more crucially, it is the fact the rangers are so empathetic and kind, and willing to forgive him, and allow him back into the group that makes it worse. He feels so much shame, anger and self hatred for what was done because he chose to put on the mask, and the rangers forgive him without a second thought. That easiness to forgive it making it all that much worse. This being a point that a friend of mine who served in the army said he went through himself, that guilt at actions outside of his control and being one of those to come back from a tour when others didn’t and the forgiveness he got from families he even though there was nothing truly to forgive made the guilt worse
I like the fact that both Wild Force and it's sentai version, Gaoranger, coincided with major anniversaries: WF as the 10th for Power Rangers and Gaoranger as the 25th for Super Sentai in general.
I would like to think that the MMPR morphers were fixed thanks to the In Space episode where Adam discovered that his morpher still works. He could have contacted the other rangers and probably figured out a way to repair the morphers with possibly some help from the Space Rangers and perhaps other teams who still have access to their powers, like the Lightning Rescue team
My personal theory about the Zeo powers remains that they grow too powerful to be safely used and my theory for Serpentera is that it was a prototype Zedd had buried.
Jindrax was my favorite Power Rangers villain costume design next to Ecliptor and Deviot. When I was a kid, I went crazy over the cool spinning action figure
I wanna bring up something that's bothered me for the longest time. Lions don't live in jungles. They live on savannahs. Not to mention tigers, which do live in jungles, are bigger and stronger than them.
Speaking of lions and tigers, have Ligers been used in power rangers/super sentai yet? From my recollection it’s a popular thing to use at least as a name when it comes to mecha
The story beats copied from the Sentai are striking here - Gao Yellow also punched out Gao Red in the process of recruiting him. The cell phones were just as silly looking in Gaoranger, and the henshin call was "Gao Access", which seems to have lent itself to the call of "Wild Access" here. If my research into the CGI mecha / zords is accurate, the effects on display here were all done by one person - who is still in business as a one-man company to this day.
Wild Force is my personal favorite season of PR as a whole. I'd say it's up there with Time Force and In Space for being as close to perfection as PR as has ever been. The last episode of the Animus arc is tainted by Animus' actions, but I do like the message behind it that was very relevant at the time and I'd say is even more relevant now: Humans are not inhertiently evil. Most humans do care about the world around them and want to save it. Humans moreso suffer from apathy and short term memory, they don't necessarily care about things until they can no longer ignore the consequences (by which point it may already be too late to do more than limit the damage).
I can't believe had to say this. The backstory of the main villain's (Master Org) of this series makes him became the very first example of an incel on fictional media before the word incel became a well known term on the internet (Thanks to a certain website I know for that info). Also Wow this was a rare fast upload of HoPR.
In the sentai the "never give up" thing starts off with gaoblack thinking he was holding the team back and him wanting to give up on life and gaoblue reminds him to not give up on life
Something else nobody talks about: the wild force logo for the series. Seriously, it’s gotta be my favorite, being a steely beast head with the title in its mouth. It’s so simple yet so detailed.
About the little disclaimer you made in the beginning where you say you probably shouldn’t have mentioned Samuel Benta stealing the banner in the Overdrive videos, don’t feel bad about that. You have every right to speak your mind about those things. Plus it technically does have something to do with Power Rangers since it was at a Power Rangers convention.
TV Tropes seems to be quite aggressive against Linkara about it at the time of writing [see YMMV/History of power rangers] which probably prompted the disclaimer.
Underrated scene in Forever Red is everyone demonstrating their martial arts prowess then here is Carter Grayson being like “That’s cool and all, but I’m just going to shoot everything”
Carter Greyson: shoot first ask questions never
Have any Power Rangers shows tried gun-fu or things like blaster gauntlets?
@@bthsr7113 Sounds like something Super Sentai would do itself.
@@bthsr7113 Not yet, although a lot of Disney seasons would focus more on using weapons than martial arts.
Carter Grayson: So anyway, I started blasting...
Lucky.

0:05 To be fair, Sleep Time Sentai was a great show.
The bogeyman and his army of phobias was a fun concept, the reveal that the sixth ranger was the mentors long lost teddy bear was surprisingly touching and the dream canon finishing move was awesome.
I know nothing about Sentai and I so want that to be true.
I laughed harder at this than I should have.
@@NoahDaArk Why hasn't that been a thing yet?
Let me get this straight
The Power Rangers that are about nature tend to use metal vehicles like cars and motorcycles
But the Machine Empire are the ones that are using horses.
Is that some kind of in-joke from the writers?
Not only that but I'm still wondering when the machine empire recruiting the beetleborgs.
@@shadowlinkbds They were late additions to the Empire, joining them like how A-Squad betrayed SPD, due to the fact their show never got a proper ending.
@@shadowlinkbds well ever the show got cancelled I guess they thought turning themselves into pure robots and joining the machine Empire would be a trade up
funny Sentai joke
I usually thought those horses were robots wearing synthetic skin
An interesting Tidbit is that in the Wild Force Episode , “Soul Searching”, Bulldozer Org is actually voiced by Jason Faunt, who played both Wes and Alex in Time Force.
The only time the Duke sorts “interacted” with someone from the time force series.
No way Linkara is gonna see this, but on the off chance he does:
I love history of power rangers because of you.
The man saw it my friend CONGRATS
Andros bragging about killing Zordon is super weird and best left as an outtake, but his brag in the final cut ("I saved two worlds, how 'bout that?") is charmingly humble, because he didn't just save Earth and KO-35, he saved the whole universe in Countdown to Destruction.
I'd love to see an adaptation that shows the past Rangers finding out about Zordon's death and mourning him.
@@IgarappappaAnd then their unique reactions to knowing that Andros did it regardless of the context.
Compare that two the outtake's reaction
“I killed Zordon”
“Oh yeah? Cool.”
“…”
A better boast would have Andros say that he destroyed the entire United Alliance of Evil before looking sad and saying he wished he could have done it another way. It could have been followed by someone like Tommy or Jason comforting him and saying that any one of the Rangers there would have done the same thing if they were in his shoes.
Though I think T.J. has them all beat “did u ever tell you about the time I was baked into a giant pizza?”
It feels like the intention of him saying "I'm the one who killed Zordon," is a way of him saying, "Hey you're all cool and talented, but have any of you destroyed anybody as greatly POWERFUL as Zordon?"
So it's a brag of him flexing his potential strength and greater power.
Honestly,i ship jindrax & toxica AKA yabaiba & tsue tsue
I also really love how Jindrax doesn't have the generic 'Gravely, Villain Voice' used for so many other PR villains; that and he's actually got a personality and some charming quirks despite being a skilled fighter in his own right. Jindrax and Toxica are really two of the most underrated PR 'villains'.
@@vincentwhitehead I´m pretty sure they liked each other. Toxica even got jealous when Jindrax got pecked by Shayla when they rescued her.

truly unfortunate Disney never had them in human form either at the shop or a dirtbike event enjoying having a good time, or even something about how "these rangers" fight or their theme. Something casual like that to reference the season that came before without having a team up or anything direct.

He was supposed take a whole mouth off to work on history of power ranger but it fell through thanks to the length of the Darknight Metal review.
Apparently, according to an interview with Taylor's actress, they were told that they couldn't act _too_ well and there was even a person on set to enforce this rule. So if the acting seems mixed on this season, that's at least partially to blame.
Because having a discrepancy in acting talent between actors would be distracting?
@@chrisdaughen5257 Don't want the kids to be actually scared do you?
That's a weird rule to have but okay
There are jokes made about this kind of thing because the reality of it is very disappointing and, I imagine, quite annoying to deal with.
After super mega fail yeah it's believable, they told troys actor to show no emotion and be a robot basically wth. 😂
I never watched this season but I like Danny and Alyssa.
Thankfully, in Wild Force, they don't refer to each other by their colors because that would be really stupid.
Only sentai I can think of where they call the others by their colors that make sense is LupinRanger
That makes a lot of sense and I had the same thought as well.
Can this be canon? I'd love to see a Jungle Fury/Wild Force crossover with RJ and Merrick as leads. :D

Edit: my theory is that Zen-Aku that appears in the ending is not physically alive. Merrick sees Zen-Aku, because Zen-Aku reigned over their body for a long time. Zen-Aku is a soul living inside Merrick, similarly to Johnny Silverhand living as an engram in V's body in Cyberpunk 2077.

I have nothing but affection towards Wild Force these days. I was more than a bit conflicted when it came out due to the transition towards more "accessory" zords instead of a few solid ones, but I loved a lot of the plot points.
At least with this season most if not all of the auxilary zords end up forming part of new megazords altogether that also look awesome.
@@FixTheWi-Fi Quite true. They even had a minor plot were the bear zords overwhelmed the lion zord, hence the need for the soul bird. But it just felt kinda lazy especially as time went on as we got series like Ninja Storm which had a bunch of weapons.
When you see a hour long upload on Atop the Fourth Wall and it’s a History of Powers video too, you know your in for a magical treat!
Alex at least admitted he was wrong..annimus did no such thing.
@@zemox2534 Exactly!
alex had a reason being the rangers are changing history such has him being alive, and any time travel base media tells you it usally not good to mess with the past to much. animus tho was justa striaght up jackass
You're correct. It's a shame Red Lion couldn't handle DK mode but that's why we have the Kongozord.
AN HOUR AND A HALF!?!?
* heats up popcorn *
This is where the fun begins!
Each song abruptly starts and stops, you're _severely_ overstating the quality.

But money…
That actually would make more sense.
I love this alternate plan.
Doesn't really fit the "feature the wild force rider" directive though. What they chose was stupid but hey...can't say the rider wasn't obscenely powerful.
@@AT-il2ej Thank you. Been waiting for this to be uploaded to comment that.
Unfortunately the idea that was stupid had to be done in order for forever red to actually happen
Man, I wish there's someone to keep Tzachor in check during Neo-Saban Era.
@@luishernandezsoto You and me both man.
Agreed on the foresshadowing.
True but at least Time Force and Wild Force are better seasons compared to those 2 especially MegaForce.
Agreed
This, Ninja Storm, and Dino Thunder were my favorites as a kid.
I didn’t mind SPD and Mystic Force but by that time I felt myself getting too old for it
Mystic Force was the last season I saw
@spencermanning9994 True, but we don't know if there was a love triangle 3000 years ago or not
Does the Ranger Rule Book have a rule against Rangers letting go of their weapons?
If Troy had access to it then yes. Otherwise if not, he probably would had wrote it in.
@@stephenholloway6893 If he tried to, Taylor might restrain him before he got to it.
Mostly it's just transcriptions of the pep talks from Gaoranger vs Super Sentai. Which makes me wonder why Max doesn't drink more milk.
@@stephenholloway6893 I could imagine that rule being written while crossing out the rule involving throwing weapons.
I saw that episode! And now I remember who Troy is.
5:22 Cole was at least glad that Taylor didn’t nail him at his “six-o-clock” if you know what I mean.
Good read! 👍

And that's another Power Rangers/Street Fighter connection because McConnohie is Seth.
Thank you for your hard work Linkara! I love this series it's great to come back to every few months
Given that Forever Red is in this season, Rest In Peace Jason David Frank, the most legendary Ranger.

People on the internet are not mature enough to deal with such heavy topics
Oh damn, that was quick! Glad to see this uploaded again!
If I remember correctly, one of the theories as to why the Zeo Powers are never utilized more often after the Zeo Season amounts to:
Since the Zeo Crystals were stated to be one of, if the, most power things in the series, the drawback to using their powers is that the users would eventually get overwhelmed by the power themselves, if the utilization if continuous.
Basically, Tommy, Adam, and the others who used the Zeo Powers aren't using them no more unless they have little choice because it would be too risky.
*Looks at Tommy's Master Morpher* Are you sure about that?
that shit burnt out eventually tho
I think Zen-Aku is my second favorite version of the Green Ranger type story (O.G. of course being number one.) And for a few reasons:
1) Stealing the Zords.
Remember *The* *Power* chooses the Rangers.
I mean, Dino Thunder was literally four students and their teacher. Soooo. Lmao
I can't wait for the seasons that aren't uploaded to UA-cam yet. I enjoy the history and lore of the series. Keep up the great work.
2 "bad guys" have lived in my head rent free for over 20 years - Ivan Ooze who i don't think was brought up

These 2 baddies encouraged me to look into Power Rangers more and as this Playlist was the longest I figured it would have the most info and ve the best background noise

Late as HELL to this but man thank you for the series. All I wish was it was 1 long video to binge but a Playlist is better than nothing. Thank you
This sums up my childhood. Thanks for the nostalgia. Sweet vid!! Awesome work
Hey, this was released on my birthday. Thanks for the present, Mr. Lovhaug!
Linkara, when you said "that would have worked if Carter Grayson had done it" I died 🤣🤣🤣
I'm glad your redoing and reuoloading these. I don't think anyone has covered this series as well as you.
You sir, are a comedic talent. Your narration had me laughing so much. I enjoyed the video but your wit prevented me from leaving.
Sweet, I loved wild force when I was little and still enjoy it today along side other PR seasons. Great video.
It's cool that you're doing the history of Wild Force and right on time for its 20th anniversary seriously I was expecting to watch this next year but this is even better plus I love some of the new jokes you through in this one than the original video you did of this
My notes:
That quip about Alpha kicking their asses is a lot funnier when you remember that he ended up being the one to train the rangers in the 2017 movie... and actually did kick their asses there, if I remember correctly.
And of those,
Mystic Force's were magic wands _disguised as_ cellphones
Overdrive's at least had an interesting activiation method
RPM's again had a neat way of powering them
Samurai's doubled as caligraphy brushes which was pretty cool
and SM's was also the 'lock' for the Ranger Keys
Plus arguably the passing of both Pua and Jason as well in terms on how they died.
This is a great video. Your content has improved so much. I love it. Thank you for providing it.
Dam Linkara fantastic work as always and impeccable timing keep up the fantastic work
The reason the armadillo and rhino zords were summoned in the sentai was because the lawnmower org was grown giant sized and cut the bison zord rather grotesquely and the bison zord was sidelined here in wild force yeah plot convince playhouse
Yeesh. I'm glad they didn't add that bit into Wild Force.
I forgot this was the season with the Red Ranger Teamup. Gotta admit, it brought a tear to my eye when I saw it. So well done,
Edit: Also, it's always good to see Bulk and Skull
I just found this channel and this video made me feel so nostalgic plus your commentary was great. Can't wait for the next series of power rangers.
"How did Bulk get back to Earth from Miranoi?"
"There's a simple explanation for that."
Or far too complex for us to understand.
@@stephenholloway6893I like this one better
Knowing Bulk, he probably wasn’t going back to Earth on purpose.
My Personal feeling on why Merrick felt responsible for Zen-Ali’s actions and guilt is actually two fold:
- One Zen-Aku’s initial actions when he first put on the mask that resulted in so much damage and death,
- and second, and more crucially, it is the fact the rangers are so empathetic and kind, and willing to forgive him, and allow him back into the group that makes it worse.
Rewatching these I want to apologize because you put so much work into these videos and I applaud you for these amazing videos man much love ❤💯
Finally, someone finally gets it. It's always bugged me that a lion is called the King of the Jungle when they never even live there.
Plus sharks and eagles are better hunters, and a bison could probably kill a lion one on one.
Jason: You didn't think you would do this without the original red ranger did you?
Zayto (from Dino Fury): Hold my beer.
Also the the morphing sequence is the same except. Only replacing the Sentai rangers with their counterparts
heck, they didn't even bother changing the names for the monsters, as they're also called "Orgs" in Gaoranger.
This type of character has existed for way before this
In the sentai the "never give up" thing starts off with gaoblack thinking he was holding the team back and him wanting to give up on life and gaoblue reminds him to not give up on life
Something else nobody talks about: the wild force logo for the series.
TV Tropes seems to be quite aggressive against Linkara about it at the time of writing [see YMMV/History of power rangers] which probably prompted the disclaimer.
...and this is a big deal why? I mean, he shouldn't have done it, but still...
I still remember when the original version of this episode aired. Now I will never know if Linkara is aware of Voltage Vengerz!
I referenced it a couple of times, in particular the description for the April fools' video covering MMPR Reversioned. =)
