This has been my latest project for a while. Hence the lack of uploads as of late! This will be the final Science of MKX video before the release of MK11. Thank you all for enjoying this series and giving me more than enough reasons to keep bringing more episodes to the table. It's been so much fun going over the history of this game and after 4 years, we're ready to transition straight into MK11 and pick up where we left off. - Ketchup
That stamina change after combo break made goros jump a 1 on 3 to 2 in 3 defence option and makes it pretty much a guarantee hit. Always pissed me off as my bro who I play couch combat with is a goro main
I remember sending the accidental double spell clip, then watching in awe as my hero's took to the lab, discovering the mysterious science behind it all. Thank you for all entertainment and joy you've brought me through the years. Love you guys!
Okay, that stuff about Ermac had me laughing pretty hard. Only the Error Macro character could be expected to have tons of errors, bugs, and/or glitches with his commands.
To me, you are doing more in this video than simply showing a transitional history from vanilla mkx to end of life. You are showing the people, who may not necessarily understand the necessity for patches, that these updates in this generation of gaming are required and helpful as a game moves forward and information is gathered. Not just from the player, but the devs as well. Thank you!
To add on to what I'm getting at, there is no way that the same thing will not happen to mk11. It is an inevitability that a competitive fighting game is going to have broken aspects to it at launch. Be patient kids!
haha i remember most of these. i cracked up during the Quan Chi section. i'm looking forward to seeing you guys talk about Demo Sonya and un-patched Cyrax and CSZ.
Outstanding history lesson. You are doing the most unique and interesting MK content and I can't wait till you get your hands on MK11. Thank you for such deep and thoughtful videos.
I watched MKX tournaments all the time since it came out. And it was always fun to see all this dominant busted tech make it to tourneys where run cancels and unscaled damage were king. Then seeing the entire competitive scene instantly change into something else the moment a patch dropped was funny too. MKX certainly felt like it went through so many "eras" before it reached the end. So many different characters and different variations would change places at the top tiers. I thought it was really interesting to see. I still think the TOP TANYER era was the worst MKX era.
I was there from day one, both in MKX and as a Sub on this channel and i remember some of those broken things to this day, namely how bad kenshi was at the time (my main back then) and how busted Quan was due to your discoveries ... but MY GOD god 'ol Vanilla MKX, no matter how much anyone loved the game, nobody can deny what a shitshow it was. Oh and btw, there was a neat little bug on the PC port (which was a horrible port btw) that would you lose ALL PROGRESS, Story, levels unlocks and Krypt included. That happend to me after i had switched factions for the first time and i though it was intended XD. I only ever found out about it because MORE THAN A YEAR LATER somewhere in the patchnotes it was stated that that bug existed and was fixed... yeah, just let that sink in for a moment Anyhow, great vid as usual ^^
@@Quiron1985 Well, Liu Kang looks pretty OP. 50/50 teleport, insane combos off of parry, meterless launchers, and retarded corner carry. Keep in mind we havent even seen all his moves yet. Other than that, no characters really seem THAT bad. Breakaways are pretty gay though
MKX was the first fighting I played from release. I gotta say that discovering how much broken stuff almost every character had along side the community was insanely fun and the most memorable fighting game experience I've had.
Cryomancer Sub's combo grab was eventually changed to an actual input. So the combo throw was the same toss the other two variants had. And just like that I stopped using cryomancer because Jesus I hate that awkward input.
AWSOME video! I was playing back then but didn't even know how to special cancel. This video is appreciated and it hits the nostalgia. But as an ex-cyomancer main, I will never forget those meter less 30% combos
Well since there was a day 1 patch, that means none of this actually mattered was it was exactly that, a day 1 patch, on the very first day it got that patch, which also included Goro so that people who pre-ordered MKX could play against people who didn't per-order MKX, so the day one patch needed to happen regardless. MKX is now the most balanced MK game to date, so MK11 will not have any of those stuff for sure. Interesting video indeed, great job like always guys.
I played Mortal Kombat Armageddon when I was young with my older brother, but I really started playing MK in the last patch of mkx. I always wondered how mkx was in the start cause someone told me about armored launchers. Good Video, like always.
Ugh, MKX day one still gives me nightmares. 💀💀 but I would gladly play them again and see the meta crumble again lol Thanks for this beautiful memory Ketchup. 😃
I’d love for you guys to do a terminology/basics video with MK11. Things like +/- frames, safe on block, footsies, neutrals, when/why to use meter(defensive and offensive).
One thing to keep in mind is if something is +2 and you use a 7 frame move, that move is essentially like 5 frames you are at a +2 advantage. Provided you time the move right. If you are - you are a disadvantage and it goes the other way. Look at sub zeroes slide or scorpions teleport in training mode once. They are - significantly to where anything will hit them really. -20 is punishable by moves 19 frames or less because of mkxs weird system with normals. (Specials that come out as reversals come out immediately though) Use moves that are + on block and staggers (parts of hit strings) to create advantage.
Honestly removing armored launchers and nerfing the stamina bar (not the breaker part) were mistakes. The game was more fun with both of those things in tact
@@adiris8827 It's not the mindgames so much as MK was never a 2-3 guess title a la high level SF4 at the time. Believe me, it's not so much mindgames as it was the prevalence of *good* 50/50 OS leading into a 30-45% combo depending on execution skill
I remember when Mystic Ermac’s lift would do 10% unscaled damage if you just let them fall. It was crazy ending a combo with that and then you could build meter while they hang upside down.
I remember playing this game with my cousin the year or a few months after the game came out we were all having a sleepover and we were all taking turns and when i first saw the fatality for scorpion where he cuts your head open i was amazed

It's weird to hear that it was known how good run cancels were early on when I don't recall seeing them much in competition until much later on. I guess the only character I saw being used like that was Raiden because of Nivek. Poor old Raiden got nerfed a lot before they figured out how to fix that option select, then they forgot to undo the nerfs again, until the final patch when EX DB2 was given a better hitbox and two hits of armour. But in general I only remember Godspeed talking about run cancels during commentary on the US ESL side, but no one seemed to be using them competitively early on. Maybe it was still the days when 50/50s ruled the scene before they realised how to find good mids. I assume some characters weren't covered due to a lack of dirt? Or just lack of major talking points at least. Still, nice and informative as well as entertaining. 20:03 was a good laugh.
