Just changed my starter thanks to your videos. I looked at this video to remove the intake manifold and the other video where you change the starter. Thank you.
As someone who has watched thousands of How To & repair videos on the YT, I can tell you: great video! Thank you guys for putting this together. Concise, well edited & informative. Cheers from TX.🍻🍺
Believe it or not, this video covers 80% of the work. Getting the intake on and off is the worst part on most motors to do a carbon cleaning on a DI motor. The rest is as follows: 1) With the intake removed, rotate engine by hand using correct socket and breaker bar until cylinder 1 is @ TDC (meaning all valves on all cylinders should be closed). Use a flashlight and watch the valves open and close if you aren't sure. You can also do the screwdriver trick on cylinder 1 to find TDC (google this for more clarity) 2) You want to clean the valves and intake runners while the valves are closed, and remove the debris with compressed air to blow it back out of the intake runners, preventing any solid chunks, dirt, lint etc from having a chance to fall into the combustion chamber of the engine. 3) Different cleaning agents have different levels of effectiveness. Soaking is highly recommended. CRC makes some great cleaning agents for this. Normal, over the counter low-VOC brake cleaner also does well for half the carbon cleanings out there. 4) Let it soak for at least 30 minutes, longer if possible. Use low pressure compressed air (the keyboard cleaner cans work well for this) to extract the excess fluid, or suck it out with a MityVac handheld vacuum pump. 5) On a badly neglected engine where the carbon cleaning never got done, or the car wasn't taken to top tier fuel stations with proper detergents in the fuel, it's not uncommon to have to use a series of pick tools and scrape that carbon off like a dentist working on a meth addict's mouth. 6) Do what is necessary to remove the debris. Wear safety goggles. Don't let chemicals get on your paint or nice clothes. 7) Once the valves and runners are clean to your satisfaction, replace the intake manifold gasket and reinstall everything you removed. 8) There will still be carbon buildup on the pistons. You can use CRC's GDI induction clean product for ~$15/can to address this. You can also "soak" the cylinders with a cleaning agent while the engine is apart and not running (if you truly understand engines and know what you're doing) If you aren't comfortable with the above, don't touch your car. Take it to the professionals. It will be cheaper with less downtime and frustration for you. Posting this reply in case it helps other folks who are considering taking this project on for their DI engine (VW, Hyundai, GM, etc). Good luck! 🍺🍻😎
I have a question about the gaskets. My car, a 2015 1.6 turbo sonata, only had gaskets around the valve intakes, no gaskets at the little ports in between. It came this way from the factory and always ran fine until a fuel injector went bad. What are those small square ports for?
Hi, great video, it help a lot! Question, then, how to install the manifold? Replacing gaskets and also, should I use gray silicone too? Or only with the gaskets? Thank you!
I have a 2013 Veloster turbo. I cannot figure out what is the last attach point holding on the intake manifold. I got all the obvious ones. It is 9n the bottom somewhere. Please tell me this last attach point and do I need to disconnect the line that is attached to the top of the oil filter stand.?
Yo man my car sometimes the idle it drops when I’m accelerating could my intake possibly b the cause ? I had did oil change spark plug change and I clean my throttle body plate and my air filters are koo
Anyone know why a front right turn signal on a 2014 hyundai elantra only blinks when the lights are off but when the lights are on it wont blink? Dont got money to pay a mechanic to look at it and cant have it sitting in a shop. Trying to fix it myself if possible. The socket doesnt look bad. Aint rusted but could be just old.
Need help removing Veloster turbo last attach point on under side of intake is holding me up . Has any one had this issue. Thanks it seems to be different than the one in above video . Money is a 2013 VT. THANKS
If the gaskets are silicone you probably do not need to replace them every time (just clean the surfaces well). But it they are plastic, you may or may not be able to get away without replacing them (depending on their ductility). Realistically though, if the gaskets for the manifold and throttlebody are
Do you have any videos on replacing factory Air intake? I bought an intake and would love to visually see the steps to take out the factory intake and replace it.
Dude, it definitely was super easy! I just have never done that kind of work under the hood so when my K&N box came in, all the parts looked easy, just the first sentence on the instructions pretty much said "Let a professional install" Lmaoo. Kinda intimidating. But step by step and the help of my dad, we got it in, in about an hour!!
I wish I could post a picture on here, but if you or whoever sees this thats interested (if it lets you click on it) www.amazon.com/HPS-27-538WB-Shortram-Intake-Shield/dp/B019O662FW/ref=sr_1_6?crid=27V1Q5V9E2D53&keywords=air+intake+hyundai+elantra&qid=1555537994&s=gateway&sprefix=air+intake+hyu%2Caps%2C152&sr=8-6 Thats the exact post i bought from. My name is Joshuaespinoza and you should be able to see my review and pictures!
I got a 2015. Removing the original air box is not that easy guys. You have to remove the front left tire to get access to some bolts. And you need a good socket kit with extensions. BTW could someone tell me if the throttle body gets decalibrated when you disconect it. I'm planning on cleaning it but got a lot of different opinions.
Oh shit. We have a 2012 and we didn't take a tire off. Didn't even touch it. Just some extended socket stuff like you said and we got it. ! It was honestly easy for us. Took no more than an Hour.
Can You make a video on how to fix a horn and steering controls that doesn't work. After i disconnected my car battery for 30 mins those things stop working. I disconnected it to clear a check engine light from a cylinder 3 misfire. I have this same exact car.
When you are under the car near the end of the fan and right in front of the plastic coolant. Look up you will see a metal bracket with 2 bolts. It is the top bolt you need to remove. You will need an extention, to get to it.
Obviously not advised, but I was short cash replaced my starter after taking the intake manifold off and it drove 2400 miles from Ohio too San Diego. Obviously replace the head gasket, but if you can't don't let it stop you from getting the job done

Thanks for posting this one. Looks like a DIY for someone with mechanical skills. I wanted to check my intake valves for carbon build up.
Holy crap, bro! We used to go to college together. Your video just saved me a BUNCH of time working on my car. Hope all is well!

Thank you guys I've been wandering how to do this to my 2017 Elantra for months!

Thanks,

Excelente video .Buen trabajo .from colombia
Great info. However, you could inform about the sequency and Nm's range for the manifold tightening.
Why do they make engines so tight to work in/at? I remember my 1981 Toyota Corolla. You could get to any part of the engine very easily.
Do you have a video on replacing the starter on this vehicle? I have a 2012 Rio. Same engine.
If you remove the intake manifold you should be able to see and get to the starter.
Hello friend. Need to know the (intake manifold tuning valve) "IMTV" location in the same car or any other elantra... Thanks a lot.

How about a drain and fill transmission fluid?
Is there a screw that I can raise the RPM? For the life of me I can't find one
why would you remove throttle body?
the two lines attached to it have coolant running thru them so easier to remove the t. body and leave it to the side.

You forgot to show the bottom bolt!!!!! It’s extremely hard to remove!!
