Considering protein is the most satiating macronutrient by far, I find it hard to believe that most people are “over consuming” protein yet still getting fat. I’ve never seen anyone increase their consumption of lean protein and get fatter.
@@carolinacarnivore6776 150 g of lean protein is around 1500 cal per day. I’d find it very hard to believe you gained 30lbs eating that much per day, unless you weighed around 100lbs at the start or you’re consuming fattier/higher calorie sources of protein.

Lots of really good information. Thanks so much. I may have missed it but I'd appreciate more info on how many grams of protein are in different forms of meat. 1 g of meat does not equal 1 g of protein. Information I found online suggested that 4 oz of ground beef has about 30 g (1 oz.) of protein depending on fat content.

This is absolutely absurd. There’s is not anyone on the carnivore diet eating less than 100g of protein per day and not a single one has gained weight. To say that we are “over proteinized” when high quality protein is the most under consumed macronutrient is rediculous
I am an outlier. Carnivore 2 years and increased protein to 90-150g per day sometimes higher but that is minimum. I’ve hit 200g. I gain weight unless I drop my protein? Wish I knew how to fix it. Blood sugars stay between 100-130 fasting. Was my smallest 7 years keto.

the Eskimos ate a protein diet of fish and game for generations with lots of blubber. they had no tooth decay or high blood pressure and we're generally extremely healthy. only in current generations when they started eating similar diets we do has their health deteriated.
Eskimos don’t pay tax, not live in a selfish society, not have work load pressure. Don’t have to pay bills and don’t work their ass off to pay bills on time. Another very reason they thrive.
That's not a serious argument. "Life expectancy for Inuit rose from 29 years in 1941 to 1950 (38 years less than for Canada overall), to 37 years in 1951 to 1960 (33 years less), to 51 years in 1963 to 1966 (21 years less), and to 66 years in 1978 to 1982 (19 years less). For Inuit in Nunavik, life expectancy in 1984 to 1988 was 14 years less than for the total population of Quebec."
On the topic of NSAIDs Dr Gundry.... is paracetamol safe to take for pain and headaches. You say that aspirin and ibuprofen should be avoided. I used to take aspirin as i get a lot of headaches. So i need an alternative painkiller. Thank you
About 20 years ago my doctor said I wasn't assimilating protein (could have been a gut issue as mentioned because that was one of my issues) which made sense because I was needing a ton of it and couldn't go long without red meat that I bought a lot of from a grass fed beef farmer. My doctor had me take whey protein a few times a day. The whey helped a lot. This problem was an offshoot of some health issues and once those got better I no longer needed a lot of protein. And I only seem to need red meat about once a month so I don't eat a lot of meat. I seem to do well this way. Interesting that if you eat more protein than you need that your body won't use it.
Did you study up on Paul Bragg as the real father of the first heallth food store in the U.S.A and movement in early 1900s. The story of his early life is very dramatic and inspiring . Died at 96 after a 5 mile swim off the coast of California.

Interesting that the '20% protein" mentioned at the beginning of the video is also the recommended amount of carbs daily. My husband has liver disease and his liver doctor advised us to reduce his red meat because excess amounts are the equivalent of extra carbs. Something to do with the body processing a certain amount of protein, then dropping the rest into the carb/glucose cycle.
Loved this guy and was bought in until I learned he believed you only need 20-30 grams of protein. Started listening to the other side and don’t think I’m limiting myself to 20-30 grams a day.
He talks about our bodies digesting mucus and gut cells which he claims is a protein source. If this theory was true we could literally live for ever on a very little to no protein diet. Biology and physical science works on similar principles and one principle that is not questioned is perpetual motion. The body living off itself is more or less claiming the body is in perpetual motion which is a physical impossibility. These digested cells are damaged and are no longer complete protein sources. 20 to 30 grams of protein per day may support life but the real question should be does it promote optimal health and vitality.
I'm not buying animal protein being all that bad, I just can't. My dad is 70 years old and overweight. He eats bread and eggs everyday but he is otherwise a completely healthy individual with no diagnosed health problems other than a chronic issue with his knee that he had since his teenage years. Is this an issue of being able to live to 100? Should I really be worrying about this to the degree I usually am? I honestly think looking for ways to optimize my diet all day might be causing me more harm than good...
I work with frail older adults who suffer from a lack of muscle due to consuming low amounts of protein. As they try and train for strength, they simply cannot build muscular strength without the building blocks. Gluconeogenesis happens when you over consume food. Frail older adults aren’t over eating. You and doctor longo need to make sure to differentiate for your audience.
The article he's referring to says that 90 gms (about 12 oz.) of of 90% lean beef does not build any more muscle than 30 gms (about 4 oz.) (Am Diet Assoc. 2009 Sep;109(9):1582-6) This article refers to this amount of protein IN A MEAL not in a WHOLE DAY as Dr. Gundry seems to be saying (if I understand him correctly) . Dr. Gundry feels that most nutritionists DO NOT COUNT the amount of protein that is RECYCLED (Protein Turnover) from the gut wall which is why he says that protein needs from food /PER DAY amount to 20-30 grams. According to most scholarly articles, the recommended daily protein intake for a healthy adult is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. This translates to roughly 48 grams of protein per day for a 132 lb. woman) and 56 grams for a 155 lb. man. Dr. Gundry seems to disagree and says that excess protein turns into FAT.
doctors in recent years education is highly influenced by the pharmaceutical industry so instead of a heath oriented education it consists of pushing pills instead of actually finding cures like they did when I was a kid. Dr Mercola has written beautifully on this subject.
I’d avoid meat but the packaging doesn’t have to say grass finished. It only needs to say 100% grass fed. That essentially means the animal ate grass it’s entire life. Grass fed and finished could mean it ate grass one day, then ate grain up until it was gonna be slaughtered and on the last day given grass again. 100% grass fed is all it needs to say, folks.
You can also see the difference between a grass fed grass finish steak and a grain fed grain finished steak easily by the marbling or lack of. Makes no since financially to grain feed a grass fed cow during the finishing process as grain is more expensive than grass.
grass fed or not grass fed, red meat is red meat; the problem is that cancerous cells use a substace present in red meat to hide themselves from the immune system and therefore avoid to be destroyed. Fish doesn't contain this substance.
Interesting, but I wish you'd give the dose in terms of grams per kg of body weight. Should I assume the relationship is linear and if a 150 lb. person needs 30g of protein per day a 200 lb. person needs 40g per day? You also seem to suggest that protein requirements are pretty constant regardless of the amount of exercise being done. Is it really true that a person lifting weights 3 or 4 hours per week has the same protein requirements as someone who doesn't lift? If I've misunderstood, what's the delta in protein required?
I have purchased all of your books, love the videos and follow the Plant Paradox program, now doing Keto and third day into intermittent fasting, but have two issues, 1. The balls of both feet hurt (never had that before) and 2. Bowel movements are like diarrhea, no snake in the toilet, do you have any suggestions? I eat a lot of cob salads and consume almost 1 litter of organic extra virgin olive oil from Morocco a week, plus no carbs and hardly any sugar.
have you just started intermittent fasting? i just started removing a lot of sugar and toxins and had a couple days of bad poops before i was ok; i think this is your body clearing out and detoxifying the gut. Also, i know you probs have done this, but in the cobb salads, don't eat any foods with lectins; and also know where your meats are coming from and whether or not they are also eating lectin based foods like corn and grains

5-6% protein is the proportion in mother's milk and other mammalian milk - that means, the remaining food are fats and carbohydrates. High quality protein is the key. As dr. Gundry recommends, I eat egg-yolks and feed the whites to the dogs. Also Dr. Layman recommends supplementing the right kind of amino acids - leucine , lysine etc. High protein toxicity could tax the liver.

According to Dr Atkins' wife, he wasn't obese when he died. Here's an extract of her reacting to obesity claims, from an interview on CNN: "I was outraged when I first read that because it's totally not true," Veronica Atkins said from Miami, Florida. "He was not overweight. He did not have heart failure," she added. Atkins slipped and fell on an icy street April 8, suffering a severe head injury, and remained in a coma until life support was withdrawn April 17. He was 72. The Wall Street Journal published a story based on a medical examiner's report saying that Atkins had a history of heart disease and heart attacks, and that at the time of his death, the more than 6-foot-tall doctor weighed 258 pounds -- considered obese by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's body-mass index calculator. Veronica Atkins said her husband gained as much as 60 pounds after entering the hospital after the accident. "The physicians told me it was because of all the liquids they were giving him," she said of the intravenous feedings her husband received. She also denied reports that a heart attack caused her husband's fall. "He did not have a heart attack, he definitely did not have a heart attack. That comes from his cardiologist," she said. Atkins' injuries from the fall were critical, his widow said. "Half of his head was gone, half his brain had to be taken off, practically," Veronica Atkins said. "The cranium certainly was gone. I mean, it was a severe, severe, severe trauma to the head."

It so much matters what we do, we are not hunter gatherers anymore most of us desk jockey and if we don’t have much outdoors we don’t use that many muscle to be used in first place and so we need to be easy on carb and protein. Balance diet sounds ok the type of work we do. A cowboy on ranch and a frequent flying CEO, to a rice field farmer in far east, to a high performing athlete. It’s all diverse. Asians are smaller in size as they stopped hunting and learn agriculture quickly in comparison to west because adverse weather and terrain hey were in, lack of big families support have had them on their toes all the time. No wonder they are big and mostly lived on meat. In Comparison to Asia where weather is warmer great for agriculture they learns to domesticate animal for milk butter eggs, ate grains pulses and lavish seafood, they lived in communities and worked hard in field to metabolised their carb consumption. Problem arises when they didn’t adjusted their diets in comparison of the physical work they do. They sit in posh offices in air condition room hardly anytime for walks and exercise and remained hooked to their high carb diet Causing diabities. So one has to look exactly what they do.
Obviously bodybuilders and weight trainers need more and you need IGF1 to stimulate muscle growth! It is stimulated in the muscles.. mTOR is important for this, sure it stimulates cancer growth but that is only in the case if you already have a cancer or tumor growth somewhere in the body. It doesn't cause cancer
So the extra protein you consume is converted into fat. What happens if you're a very very lean person, like 10% bf? I personally eat lots of meat and I don't think I'm getting fat, but I also train 3 times a week and walk for an hour on rest days. I feel like these kinds of advices are for average (as in not very lean) sedentary people.

I may have missed it but I'd appreciate more info on how many grams of protein are in different forms of meat. 1 g of meat does not equal 1 g of protein. Information I found online suggested that 4 oz of ground beef has about 30 g (1 oz.) of protein depending on fat content.
I was wondering this to!
Many thanks for this video Dr Gundry.
Thank you Dr Gundry for this info. It’s caused me to add more seafood to my LCHF diet.
There are Strict 20 plus year carnivores with phenomenal health. They share their labs & CAC scores on UA-cam. They do not sell anything. I applaud all sharing their knowledge for the betterment of all.
True....Dr. Ken Berry and others....
Hi dr thanks for the video my question is eggs is good for protein sources or not 😌
One of the most controversial topics in the longevity field is protein intake. Always interesting to get newest input. Siim Land should watch this, and give his take on this.
Thank you!!! Was once told we need 52 grams. It was very hard to eat all that and it was hard on my body. You wonderful video validated what my body has been telling me. TY!
Grate episod as usual please collaborate on flaxceeds They are high in estrogen not suitable for men ?
HEMP HEARTS ARE SO GOOD & GREAT SOURCE OF PROTEIN & OMEGAS!! (I also give my Pup some in his food) 🙌🏾🙌🏿🙌🏻
what in the world are hemp hearts?
Dr Gundry I love these sessions where you just talk! Please do more of these! Also, could you talk about eggs? My husband loves eggs, but he now limits himself to one pastured egg per month due to a dx of Prostate Cancer two years ago. And no red meat or poultry.
Eggs contain zinc and zinc is the ultimate Nutrient for Prostate Health regardless
Thanks for a very interesting video.
My question
Does meat mean protein?
Dr Gundry, how do you feel about sardines packed in olive oil.
What about Moringa w/ Tumerica & Black Pepper?
Dr. Gundry, can you please tell us where vegan can take their B12 vitamin and their iron minerals ? (Where do you take yours from, since you eat very little animal products?) I was a vegetarian and than vegan for many years and I have very big deficit of the two mentioned. Thank you so so much for all the information.
@@carolinacarnivore6776 that’s a pretty high fasting bg. I’d check your fasting insulin level, if greater than 5 you may have elevated baseline cortisol levels. I’d track your sleep/HRV and maybe consider incorporating back some carbs
I love you Dr. Gundry. Can you have Dr. Gabrielle Lyon on and have a respectable discussion on protein, please?
That's a great idea, why not?!
No link to the study‽ Just one study? Great scientific argument for you.
You said previously that staying in ketosis too long would end in protein being metabolised. This contradicts this? Love your work and Thankyou so much Dr G
I like and respect Dr. Gundry a lot.....A cool guy..
the Eskimos ate a protein diet of fish and game for generations with lots of blubber. they had no tooth decay or high blood pressure and we're generally extremely healthy. only in current generations when they started eating similar diets we do has their health deteriated.
Thank you
A year has passed and no answer for you yet? Gee....that is really bad.
How about phytoplankton and krill oil added to diet can mushrooms serve as sufficient protiens?
What's the protocol to pressure cook? How long on pressure?
Nonetheless to mention where are these studies links, please?

Did you study up on Paul Bragg as the real father of the first heallth food store in the U.S.A and movement in early 1900s. The story of his early life is very dramatic and inspiring . Died at 96 after a 5 mile swim off the coast of California.
My physician told me animal products have higher amounts of amino acids that will build neurotransmitters thus alleviating mood issues. What’re your thoughts ?
At the moment times are tough so I eat at the salvos. I buy good quality meat or enjoy a good balanced pub meal once a fortnight. Never been a junk food person.
I used to eat a lot of protein and thought I needed it to feel OK. After a year on lower protein, I'm amazed at how much less I actually need.
Dr Gundry, thank you for your videos. We have found a source that does Grass Fed & Grass Finished beef, pork, chicken and wild caught fish on line and we’re Very Pleased
Can you please share the link?
Interesting that the '20% protein" mentioned at the beginning of the video is also the recommended amount of carbs daily. My husband has liver disease and his liver doctor advised us to reduce his red meat because excess amounts are the equivalent of extra carbs. Something to do with the body processing a certain amount of protein, then dropping the rest into the carb/glucose cycle.
I saw somewhere that if you eat over 20 grams of protein at a time, the rest gets wasted...so...yep.
So what does 1 perfect meal according to Dr. Gundry look like?
What about wagyu meat?. I am confused. Do we need to do intermittent fasting?.
Agreed. 🙂
May You live long Dr Gundry
doctors in recent years education is highly influenced by the pharmaceutical industry so instead of a heath oriented education it consists of pushing pills instead of actually finding cures like they did when I was a kid. Dr Mercola has written beautifully on this subject.
love all your posts
If I eat 60 grams, can I skip one day of eating or does the excess protein get wasted not used next day?
Can you wash twice one day so you don't have to wash the next day?
I’d avoid meat but the packaging doesn’t have to say grass finished. It only needs to say 100% grass fed. That essentially means the animal ate grass it’s entire life. Grass fed and finished could mean it ate grass one day, then ate grain up until it was gonna be slaughtered and on the last day given grass again. 100% grass fed is all it needs to say, folks.
I stopped eating red meat 15 yrs ago & don’t miss it at all!! I do eat eggs, chicken, Turkey, fish & ALOT of Vegis (YES, Vegis have Protein in them!)
If you have these types of concerns, this is why you want to know where your meat is actually coming from.
@@abdelilahbenahmed4350 bruh ??? are u saying grass fed vs grain fed has no difference??? smh 😂
Great and logical explanation. Thank you
I have purchased all of your books, love the videos and follow the Plant Paradox program, now doing Keto and third day into intermittent fasting, but have two issues, 1.
Hey...
Easy Cassava pancakes daily using cassava flour..Goat milk...Egg.
Amazing
Wouldn't to much oil cause diarrhea
so all the bodybuilders only need 30 g of protein each and they will build those huge muscles?
BTW I would absolutely take Dr Gundry's advice over any other doctor's except where my H/H is concerned. See below.
Hello Dr. Gundry, i still have problems with the pressure cooker with the Hot Cereal Breakfast recipe. It always burns on the bottom of the pressure cooker. What am i doing wrong?
5-6% protein is the proportion in mother's milk and other mammalian milk - that means, the remaining food are fats and carbohydrates. High quality protein is the key. As dr. Gundry recommends, I eat egg-yolks and feed the whites to the dogs. Also Dr. Layman recommends supplementing the right kind of amino acids - leucine , lysine etc. High protein toxicity could tax the liver.
How about the need of protein in anemia woman ?
Thank you very much for making these informative videos Can you make a video about 🍑 Apricot and Apricot seeds
WILD CAUGHT ALASKAN SALMON is my GO TO PROTIEN SOURCE...4oz almost every day
Brilliantly explained Steven - many thanks!
Do rabbits contain neu5gc? Enclose a link please.
Dr G, I am a fan , read your books and make your recipes. But , isn’t true that the vegan athletic people consume huge amounts of super processed protein powders ? Is that a healthy choice ? Thanks !!! 🙏🏻❤️🩹✨
Every morning I take a plant-based (& healthy (not processed) protein shake… so there are plenty out there that are not super processed (& plant-based!)
@@sbcaliforniakitty I do the same thing . My comment was about high performance vegan athletes that need a lot more protein, and what I researched they do to get it . I am with you ! 🙏🏻
@@sbcaliforniakitty Hi, can you recommend the shake?
Great video, thanks Doc!
Walmart even has grass finished beef and has had for years! 💖🌞🌵😷
30 grams per meal and 30 grams per day is a vastly different conclusion. He's seems to be using these interchangeably?
I've dropped a 100# by Ketovore back & forth. Leaning toward carnivore, adding creatine, seems to be building my muscles back. I've been doing OMAD & IF down to 22% BMI. I've been doing 2MAD lately pushing 100g + protein.... I think I'm better off with the OMAD leaning towards seafood, good to know 30-50g of protein a day is enough. The less I eat, the more energy I have,,,,, as long as I avoid the starches and sweets!
FOR SCIENCE, I ate 2 pieces of cake yesterday to satisfy a sweet craving on Sunday afternoon = 1600 cal, 114g carb etc. an hour later, BS @ 131, 2.5 hrs @ 175, 3.5 hrs later BS dropped to 71! I had to take 2 readings to confirm! Dropped 100 points in a hour! I had a few beef stick snacks a few hours before bed with a BS @ 94. I've given into cake or ice cream once a week lately.... Just for training! I don't recommend it. I've noticed some headaches & lethargic behavior, when I bring the sugary sweets back.
I like chicken better but beef does give me more power for the day!!
According to Dr Atkins' wife, he wasn't obese when he died. Here's an extract of her reacting to obesity claims, from an interview on CNN:
"I was outraged when I first read that because it's totally not true," Veronica Atkins said from Miami, Florida.
What about eggs?
I’m predisposed to kidney stones. Doesn’t protein cause stones?
Can you explain, 30gr of meat? Or 30gr of protein?
When he says "protein" he means " protein"....
For all of you that think it’s impossible for professional athletes to get enough protein from plants: Venus & Serena are both either Vegetarian or Vegan
But do they eat plants as whole foods only or do they eat also plant based protein shakes/powder?
I’m assuming they also drink plant based protein shakes Since they are professional athletes who exercise a lot and shakes are more convenient?!
Something for me to think about. I’m not a carnivore and no reason to be one, although I am a meat base with veggies and fairly high good fats.
Do gorillas and horses eat bugs to?
How about the camal meat
How a bout if you work out. For about 45/60 minutes. Different body part everyday. I probably burn about 30/40 grams of protein. Working out
FANTASTIC TALK !!! IS IT OK TO PUT BUTTER ON YOUR VEGETABLES? OR WILL IT HURT YOUR HEART?

Hello Dr Gundry
“Eat a side of bison every day”. Bahahahaha 🦬
Wow, I ne.ueve it. Everyone is earingto much!
I'm like a gorilla...I have a hairy chest and a hairy ass 😂😂😂
One question, so is it 30 grams of meat or 100? Because in 100 grams of meat there are 25 grams of protein
I need pancreatitis help doctor g
If you had to take antacids so you don't get acid reflux and stomach cancer due to hiatal hernia what would you take instead of your antacids (rennie tabs)? A corrective operation is not an option..I might scream if you mention putting apple cider vinegar onto inflamed oesophagus and stomach
Crazy. Carnivores should be fat, have high sugar levels, high uric acid etc if this guy was right, correct?
Yeah bc humans are pure carnivores right? 🤣
30 g of pure protein or 30g of beef meat?
So the extra protein you consume is converted into fat. What happens if you're a very very lean person, like 10% bf? I personally eat lots of meat and I don't think I'm getting fat, but I also train 3 times a week and walk for an hour on rest days.
I feel like these kinds of advices are for average (as in not very lean) sedentary people.
Yes I also agree. I think humans should eat animal proteins, just wild caught or grass fed
You are burning the extra protien..
Dr. Gundry there’s less wear n tear on organs in the body if we eat minimal red meat. This feels better. I’m anemic n I feel good
Okinawans eat relatively an enormous amount of fish. Are you saying Fish is not animal protein?
