- Spotted this South African version of the Holden HQ Statesman.
Having the 350 Chev engine makes this the Chevrolet de Ville.
The Constantia was fitted with a locally assembled five-litre V8 or 4.1-litre inline-six and was considered locally built.
Having the 5.7-litre V8 as fitted to the Corvette it was priced 33 percent higher than a comparable Constantia V8. The de Ville received praise for being considerably more nimble, lighter, more compact and better handling than the American models it replaced without any loss in accommodation. Power for the 350 V8 was claimed at 205.2 and 174.2 kW (279.0 and 236.8 PS; 275.2 and 233.6 hp), SAE and net figures respectively.
After making this video the person that was driving it told me this particular vehicle is from South Africa - Авто та транспорт
I love the South African HQ Statesman
I know a South African fellow here in Australia who has a HQ export Statesman he brought it over a few years ago nice statesman
The de Ville was a Statesman with the American 350 V8. The Constantia had the Holden 308 V8 or Chev 250 cu straight 6.
Coooool...!
Very tuff looking, love the 350 badges.
Would they be widened Camaro wheels? They look great.
Thanks for the upload 😁👍
I have no idea about the wheels

No worries, she's an absolute beauty...!
Can only imagine the noise and poke when travelling at 100kmh in top, pulling her back into 2nd gear and squirting to, say, 140kmh...awesome 👍
I've seen some VE Holden utes at some musters with the Chevy Lumina grille from the Arab and ZA markets. It goes to show how cool it would've been to have the best of Australia in the states.
Too late now
These cars got sent to South Africa. and New Zealand. and the Philippines. some went to Cyprus Greece even centre HQ Statesman to Japan and put a rotary motor in it.. and cold it the Isuzu Statesman
I spoke to the person that was driving this vehicle after making the video.
He told me it is from South Africa
They were actually assembled in South Africa
@@jut9296 . I didn't know that at the time of making the video
@@NewstartGarageOZ yeah all good mate, im just stating it thats all. Not having a dig.
They're also called AQ not HQ in Africa
There were quite a number of HQ Statesmans here in Malaysia during the 70s and 80s. At the same time there were quite a number of Statesmans from South Africa used by diplomats and Australian embassy personnel. They were called Chevrolet Constantina with corvette 350 TH400 and a much better interior Interior fabric used in them with some wood panels on the doors.
I spotted one with a 350 (5.7) v8 in cyprus, it had no vinyl top and was painted a nice dark maroon colour, it was rocking some chrome cragar wheels, at first I saw the chevelle front end thought it was that but as I walked around it I became confused especially at the tail lights, so I thought it was a rebadged holden monaro, had to do some research to find out about the Chevy de ville and constantia
Cool
I will load some pics of the constantia 4.1 model 76
That model was called a Constantia, My old man had one with the 308 ci
Not this one, it has the 350 Chev V8.
@@NewstartGarageOZ I think the De Ville had the 350 ci so that might be a De ville and not the Constantia come to think of it. Those cars were strong, they could take a crash. and the best part.....everthing bolts off it! I know this as my dad crashed his one and was able to repair it fairly easly!
What’s up with the Square bulge in the bonnet ? Is that factory or has someone put that on it
It's an owner modification
