The USAF and RAF's losses comprised a significant percentage of the total casualties in WW2. Although the 262 was in service by '44, air losses suffered by the USAF between 1942 and 1943 made most pilots just return back to base. The chain of command has to tell pilots to accept their fate as already dead, just to sustain the morale to continue the bombing campaigns. It wasn't easy going up against the Germans. The Allied air forces were so happy that the Nazis never got their shit together when it came to this aircraft. If it had been in service a year earlier the strategic bombing campaign would have been in big trouble,
Chuck Yeager (nicknamed the braggart) was specialized in shooting down jets on takeoff / landing, as long as the flak allowed. He has probably never seen a 262 in combat.

Me 262 Vs Mig-15 (GS as 262)
Me 262 Vs F-86 Sabre (GS as 262)
P-51 Vs Me 262 (GS as P-51)
Unfortunately Mig and Sabre are DCS planes and the 262 is a IL-2 plane
@@potatonamedtate6727 Would still be cool if DCS ever gets a 262 module. Always wondered how the 262 would be against either F-86 or MiG-15 given the tech wasn't that far apart in time.
Both mig and sabre are far superior to the 262. Mig 15 in the vertical will be untouchable
1:47 looks like an angry face when you look behind you haha
Yes it does. 😀
"You cant head on with 262, man"
Meanwhile in red tail P51 head on with 262, took dozen of 30 mm bullets from 262 and still win lol
"You cant go head on with a 262 man"
Red Tails flashbacks intensify
The 262 man that brings you back! Crazy machine. I flew a whole campaing whith this badboy, in a game called European Airwars back in 1900's lol. Say Growling, can you send me PM? Need to talk to ya brother.
The Allied air forces were so happy that the Nazis never got their shit together when it came to this aircraft.
If it had been in service a year earlier the strategic bombing campaign would have been in big trouble,
imagine how scary it’ll be to be on the other side just seeing this monster tear up everything
LMAO at the bailing crew member falling through the floor of that B25 after that brutal B25 hit.
Me 262’s are always so fun to play in a air sim.
More VR videos please, this is absolutely fantastic, simply lovely. Keep up the good work!
Your deflection shooting is so masterful.... and here I am guzzling half of my 360 rounds on one target in career mode 😭
“The first time I ever saw a jet I shot it down.” - Gen. Chuck Yeager
Chuck Yeager (nicknamed the braggart) was specialized in shooting down jets on takeoff / landing, as long as the flak allowed. He has probably never seen a 262 in combat.
The effect of 30mm rounds on bombers and strike aircraft really presents the intent behind mk103 & 108 guns.
Just a couple of rounds and spars fracture.
ME 262 vs Gloster Meteor would be good to see
Do they have a Gloster Meteor in IL-2? I'd love to see it go one-on-one with the Me-262.
They do not, the me-262 is the only jet
@@Hangry_Hungarian Bah! Shame.
@@Thumblegudget No chance for the Meteor , bigger , heavier and slower than a 262 . If the stats were real , don't look at WT . 😅
@@5co756 Maybe. Perhaps the 262 is a flying Tiger tank. The Meteor probably wins in the usual Allied fashion, which is operational factors. Cheaper, simpler and easier to build and maintain, more reliable, etc.
@@Thumblegudget It don't looks cheaper and simpler or easier to build for me , maybe more reliable jet engines . 😉
This would make an incredible addition to WW2 DCS
Now that we have an excellent walkthrough of the Me 262, how about making a video about how the Allied planes fight against the Me 262?
It's easy - they shot them on take-off and landings. They had almost no chance in air to air combat.
^ that. The tempest could fight them in certain situations though.
Bombing campaign was pretty effective at dealing with me262
@@hphp31416 That's not really true. If you look at the statistics, the Germans actually had more than enough fighter aircraft, with production peaking in the final year of the war. The issue was that they didn't have enough trained pilots (If I remember correctly from Adolf Galland's book "Die Ersten und die Letzten").
Wow, what a badass war machine! Great flying to boot.
I can't believe you got rid of the "I'm a cat person" hoodie I was just about to buy it
I didn’t get rid of anything brother it’s there, if you’re looking and you don’t see it it’s because the supplier has run out.
Me262 is such a monster in the right hands. Great deflection shooting. 👍🏽
you sir, are in fact, learning.
They were called "Shwalbe" (Swallow) in Germany, A bird that dives to rapidly pluck prey out of the air so fitting the way you are using it!
Also Where is the next episode of Career mode?
Well there was a fighter bomber version of the Me 262 which could carry 2 bombs and that version was called indeed Sturmvogel (Stormbird). But yes, Schwalbe is the more common name.
@@Mike_Romeoyou are right, I just read about it! I think we can comfortably say he was using it in full "Schwalbe" mode here.
@@Mike_Romeo The people that actually had any idea about aircraft, including the German engineers and the fighter pilots knew that the Me-262 was an air superiority fighter. However, nazi officials, including Hitler, insisted on putting bombs on the Me-262...
Swallow this 😂 🤣
@@generalripper7528 The pilots and engineers knew full well it was fast enough to drop munitions without air superiority.
IL 2 looks awesome in 2021 , I was play it long time ago , and me 262 is my favorite plane with huge big caliber guns !
Great video GS! In your Hawker Tempest video you stated an ME-262 pilot said the Tempest gave them the most trouble!
How about a low level ME-262 vs Hawker Tempest furball or one-on-one dog fight video ?
As always keep up the excellent videos!
I think the problem with the Tempest was, that it was lingering around airfields where the Me-262 had to land because it was vulnerable in take off and landing. Germany had to let Bf 109 and FW-190 patrol those airports just to make sure the 262 can take off.
I would recommend reading the book " A Higher Call" it gives good insight into what flying the 262 was like in the later chapters of the book
Nice "Taco" on that B-25!!
Just started doing dcs in vr, it’s taking some getting used to cranking my head around lol
Man, those hits/kills with the 30mm look so satisfying. More satisfying than the P-39 melon lobber?
The Germans sure were masterful in their race to design superior fighter aircraft!
Another Outstanding video and presentation.
Great video, GS. Perhaps you can make one attacking only bombers, I mean the big ones, like B-17 and Liberators, for example. Thank you.
I am fascinated how you are using modern air combat skills and technique in a WW2 setting. And it works.
Well, most techniques and tactics used in air forces today were developed and pioneered in WW2, so that should not come as a suprise
@@phil3114
I dont think you understood what i meant. Never mind.
@@mortenBP okay.
@@mortenBP What new techniques? Phil was right most basic gun ACM was perfected in WWI and WWII. What was new after that was jet engine management, radar management and missile management.
I saw a reproduction 262 fly at Va. Beach air show a few years ago.
I like the part when he says sorry when he missed
Thanks for the content growling sidewinder :D
Really glad these 262's had such unreliable thirsty engines....
my god it just demolishes in the hands of a good pilot
In the hands of a competent pilot, fighting with the 262 was really unfair.
1:38
I can feel this laugh
It's so good
With the ballistics of these cannons, you really need to think of aiming more like an archer than a rifleman.
A great video as always, but I’m very confused by Hurricanes being in a dogfight environment over Europe in 1944. Spitfire Mk IXs, sure. So in terms of a ‘Great Battle’, it would best be described as a turkey shoot.
I guess the Allies were lucky that this beast never came to service in large numbers and Hitler thought it was more of a bomber.
The ME 262 in IL-2 is the A-1 Schwalbe if I'm not mistaken not the A-2 Sturmvogel.
Thats really nasty 30 mm , anyway GS would you like to make a war thunder air battle videos too in the future :)
Great Visibility on that 262
Have you noticed, the rounds do more damage the longer the distance of the shot. As if the rounds spreads like a shoot gun. Just look how devastating it was against the bomber's from range compared to up close.
Need to up the "hard mode" factor of these 262 missions by going against B-24s with Red Tail escorts.
I have learned a lot from your videos. Good job.
Really enjoy your vids, funny and informative
I would love it if you took any modern jet 1980+ that could take out the most 1940s fighters.
30mm clapping knocking the bottom out . Good thing the 262 was late in the war
I have no idea how to play this game, I know very little about planes, and yet I want to play it cuz this looks so cool. Downloading it right now to try it lol
Stormbird? U mean Sturmvogel ;)
I wouldn't mind seeing some F-104 Starfighter vs Mig-19 or Mig-21
I'd like to see the dogfight from The Simpsons: F-15 vs. The Wright brother's plane.
Me 262s against Hurricanes is great fun, but hardly fair and a very unlikely encounter. It'd be interesting to see how Gladiators might fare... Like spoiler - not well.
When you said “I figured out these ballistics watch this” that was it for me
