Flying the line with cadet pilots, this is something that I emphasis,; seeing the total energy state of the aircraft in a moment, and this awareness is largely down to your contributions in ACM. Thank you. Your talents are making a difference in the real world as well as the virtual .
I love the fact that in this money grabbing society today that Jack's son didn't want a percentage, he just wanted to give them a photo that meant so much to him. RESPECT.
Squadron Commander Collins lead his unit on round the clock destruction of General Hausser's Panzer's counter offensive against Patton and Hodges' envelopment at Mortain on August 7, 1944 which directly led to Wehrmacht's retreat from Normandy. The 245 Squadron performed brilliantly and aggressively. Known to the world as 'The Day of the Typhoon' Thanks GS for your video!!

The history story was just tremendous. The history is what draws us all to this genre. Great idea sir, well done and great flying. Keep the blue side up and dangle the Dunlaps on landing.
Your compatriot in competition is the mighty jingles. Adding the historical/technical info to your videos will set you above the normal you tuber. Keep up the good work. And just damn. I hit 2:48 where Jack was killed. May God give us the courage to live up to men like this.
Total respect to Jack and his son Mike . My mothers first husband Felix Cryderman flew Typhoons in north Africa . He contracted malaria and was sent home after a long illness . He became a bush pilot that performed mercy missions in Northern Ontario . Unfortunately he crashed and died . The coroner said the cause was probably due to his malaria . Of course in the 1950's , the science of plane crash investigation was very primitive .
Nice video I liked the history up front. Having talked to a class mate of corsair pilot Hampton Gray, the veterans do appreciate their stories being told. I have literally had a Vet fall to the floor after he told me a story. Before I got to thank him for his service, he thanked me for just listening to his story and helping him up. Thanks GS and Il2. History lives here for a little while.

My Grandfather flew Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain and after some time on "rest" with ferry command, flying aircraft out to North Africa, then time as an instructor (he was a sergeant pilot) he got put on Typhoons for the lead up to the Allied invasion of Europe. Great to see a video of what he was flying.
I'm really enjoying this historic series. When I was a young adult I went to England to meet some of my relatives and was told stories about their fathers and grandfathers flying Spitfires and Hurricanes during the Battle of Brittan. Thank you and keep them coming.
The visual representation of damage in IL-2 is just so good (that one guy that exploded, lol). Especially now with the "bullet holes appear exactly where your shots land" update.

There's an Typhoon at the main entrance in Caen's ww2 museum. I have no idea of it's origins or is it even from ww2, but that thing was massive and cool. One of my favorite planes of its era.
Great video, the Spitfire and Hawker Hurricane get all the glory so it was good to learn from this video of the participation of this plane and in particular for Squadron Commander Collins. Much is taught over here (UK) about WW2 but it’s stories like his that made the difference, God rest his soul.
The inclusion of some history and background regarding the aircraft and missions to your vids is a stroke of genius. Really great to hear these things in the context of the rest of the video. Top job!

It's touching things like this which is why I love this community. Just wish more of these kinds of stories were mainstream, younger generations are so far disconnected that they don't realise what young men their age had to go through to save our Country.
The Typhoons where a great plane with lots of power but a little unwieldy to fly!!..the Tempest was a major improvement and had the same Napier Sabre engine as the Typhoon with a few tweaks and very few had the sought after Bristol Centurus engine and it was this version that was the precursor to the Fury fighter plane which is arguably the best piston driven fighter plane ever built!!..
Really like the historical context, well done! Just some additional information: There used to be "rocket firing" Typhoon squadrons and "bomb dropping" Typhoon squadrons. Every Typhoon could be equipped to carry bombs or rockets, but changing from one to another was too time consuming so that a squadron typically used only one of it. As far as I know, 245 Sqn used rockets.

Shame you didn't partake of any rocketry. Those 3" rockets with the 60lb warheads were absolutely lethal against tanks. In a former life I worked in RAF Bomb Disposal and during a routine clearance of the old bombing range at Goswick Sands near Berwick-Upon-Tweed, we found a couple of the 60lb warheads. They don't half go with a crack!
I'm not even British but for some reason my heart really goes out to squadron leader Collins and the family and something in me tells he really should have made it. RIP squadron leader Jack Collins.

You know how when you look at someone you can just tell where they are from? This man is English through and through. Those ears and teeth are a dead give away.
When you shot that one down up close it sounded like I heard a death cry even though I know it was the plane exploding but it sounded like someone screaming for dear live 🤣🤣
oh ya thats weird....not sure why I read that as landing....I think in my head I was imaging the enemy aircraft landing...so I said landing lol. good catch.
These vids make me miss playing IL-2. My first flight sim since CFS3, and flew it exclusively for over 2 years before I switched to DCS. It's a ton of fun with a good group. Shout out to the old AirWolves squad, and our (by our, I mean Cut made them but included our idiocy) fun vids.
I remember the typhoon in Il2-46, one of my go to planes. It's damage model was a bit suspect, with a glass jaw. It's cool to see it updated after all these years.
Listening to your shoot down Alvin and the Chipmunks gave me a good chuckle. Excellent video, as always! Love the D-Day content, hope to see more of it in the future!
That's incredible that the devs put that family photo in the plane like that, now everybody who flies this fighter will get to look down at their flight console and remember his contribution to keeping us free from fascism. Would be cool if they also added a "this machine kills fascists" livery to the game that you can use on allied fighters, idk how much customization there is

I've been with Il2 since the original beta back in 2001-2002. I was Choctaw111 in the UbiZoo and on Hyperlobby back in the day. I have the greatest respect for the RAF and flew with the RAF23 and 33 squadrons online
Algorithm figured me out day, history nerd + machine nerd = sub; dig the WW2 content! Raising a scotch to you Jack and all the other boys that stepped up when destiny called.
The Churchill quote was for the Battle of Britain pilots (1940) specifically, but it could easily be applied to all of the RAF fighter pilots throughout the duration of WW2. More IL2 please.

Had a small tear in my eye for Jack's son, your Dad was a legend and I am glad the developers have honoured his sacrifice with MR ? in IL2.
Jack would be turning in his grave on what has been done to England since 1945, no longer recognisable today.
