Before opening any vintage watch or clock for the first time I recommend checking it for radium paint. I didn't do that in this video because it wasn't the first time that I opened this watch. For more information on radium and how to check for it using a geiger counter see either of these two videos:

The NetIO GC10 that I use is no longer made. It uses an SBM-20 geiger muller tube, which is also used in the GQ GMC-300E and other geiger counters. If you find one of those it should perform similarly.

I like your passion and love for learning things, as well as your approach. Quick question: What's the working distance that gives a 0.3x Barlow lens, and what CTV adapter do you mount the scope camera on? Keep up the good work. I love your channel. Thanks!
Thanks! Since the Barlow lens is a focal length multiplier on top of an existing lens the working distance of a Barlow lens depends on the working distance of the existing lens. 0.5x should approximately double the working distance and 0.3x should approximately triple it but this can be affected by the Barlow lens's distance from the existing lens, so it's not an exact science, particularly if you mix and match lenses that were not designed to be paired. You can find more information about the specific microscopes, lenses and cameras that I use on my website.
Is that a 6497 movement ? Thanks
Yes it is!
Better than Seiko's standards out of the factory ; )
Yes! I do like Seiko as well though. 😂
the comparison is with grand seiko
This is exactly the same issue with my friend's Luminor. I can fix it now, thanks.
I feel like eyery watch i repair has winding problems.
Mostly because the screws where lose😅
Very nice watch and very nice Video.
Thanks! Yes, that area of the movement is a good one to get to know well!
@@IMakeWatches yes it is but i see always new designs and little things witch make things more complicated than neded.😅 But it is always fun.
That is an interesting watch. You are full of hidden beauties. Did you not mention this watch on purpose during the video where you laid out your watch collection? Besides I need to give you props on you giant balls of brass for opening such an expensive watch and troubleshooting yourself.
Thanks! 😂 Balls of stupidity maybe. Definitely not balls of brass! 😂 I'm not sure why I didn't mention the Panerai in some videos... Perhaps because I have a strong preference for very inexpensive vintage watches. Also, anything that I've ever purchased for more than a few hundred dollars represents a momentary lapse of reason and / or flash of insecurity to me and the accompanying dirty feeling of having something in common with @producermichael. 😂😂😂
Hello, do you fix costumers watch? I have a panerai PAM 441 ceramica gmt that has stopped working.
Thanks, but no, I don't do that as yet. Probably best to take it to a Panerai dealer for factory service.
Where can I repair the broken glass of my Panerai? purchase replacement?
Try Cousins! For the link see the links page on my website. There are some other online retailers listed on that page as well.
My watch movement did not work. I replaced a new battery and then the watch run for 30 minutes and then stopped again. So I restarted my watch and sometimes it run, sometimes don’t. If it run, mostly 20-30 minutes and then stop. Do you what the problem is and how I can fix my watch.
Thanks for your comment. What kind of watch is it? What do exactly do you mean when you say that you "restarted" the watch? Do you mean pull out crown and push back in?
Hi i have same issue my luminor tantalum panerai started tody after 17 years
As you can see that's super easy to fix. Are you comfortable doing it yourself? If you're not then I urge you not to because Panerai's are a bit too expensive to mess with. Even just getting the case back off can lead to damage.
@@IMakeWatchesThank you for your responding. What about a local watchmaker i mean fixer, i know I can’t do it😀
My Panerai runs normally but it stops every 11pm-2am.. it wont run until I move the arm to 2am.. only after at 2am it runs normally.. wht do you think the problem is?
It's a friction problem. Can you see if the hour and minute hands look like they are contacting each other starting at 11pm? What other complications does the movement have that could be causing friction?
@@IMakeWatches doesnt seems to have a friction.. even if it has why only atb11pm.. and not 11am.. there shoudnt be any difference if theres a fruction..
@@harry-qy2fz Exactly. That's why I asked if it has other complications, for example a date complication! 😂
@@IMakeWatches yes it has a date n GMT as well..
It probably needs to be regressing being older. Maybe when you become more comfortable with your tools you can do a video 📸 on service the ⌚ movts.
😂😂😂
Oh, I can absolutely identify with the procrastination! 😂🤪
Do you not dress your screwdrivers as you go?
Have you tried putting the rotating top of the screwdriver on the second pad of your index finger? It does give much more control and stability
@@tomholloway7566 Sure, I do it all the time, but that doesn't work for me when a significant amount of power is needed. When a significant amount of power is needed my instinct is to grab the screwdriver like the grip on a full size screwdriver and attack it with the strength in my wrist and forearm. It's difficult to stop that instinct and wait around rolling a tiny screwdriver between the thumb and fingertips when a screw is stuck. (In other words, yes, and yes, you're right.) 😂
@@tomholloway7566 Yes, I do whenever necessary (which is a tolerance thing based on the screw at hand). That said, I am very reluctant to touch new screws on nice watches with anything but Rodico. I'm much more comfortable working with movements in cheap watches that are already showing lots of signs of previous service.
Well, the mantra I have seen is “don’t force anything “ in watches
I am at 4:33 minutes and you look many time so confused... I thought to get off this video, it doesn't make me confident in your skills, even though you have a performance tools.
Yes, good job! That watch is very valuable and I was very worried! I recommend only watching that video if you have balls of steel, or you're a sadist, or both!
This one shows that I can also be overconfident, which can also be an issue: ua-cam.com/video/jfN4uUNKq_E/v-deo.html
@@IMakeWatches You are right! watching this movie until the end, I saw your finger movements so precise! and then, I changed my mind, so please accept my apologies. And on top of all this, your answer and your attitude to my criticism show that you have a beautiful character. I wish you all the best!
Ball is sure to close?
