  • Retro Fighters is at it again, reinventing what a great controller is and should look like. This time they are taking aim at the PlayStation 4 and providing gamers with what looks to be a fantastic option. This new controller, called the Mantis, will be available later in 2024 and has some excellent features built into it. Let's take a closer look.
Learn More about the Retro Fighters Mantis:
    retrofighters....
Preorders begin June 18th and ends July 2nd
    From Retro Fighters:
    Introducing Mantis
Mini sized Bluetooth controller for PS4 and PC
We are excited for the release of the Mantis controller.
A mini form factor wireless Bluetooth controller compatible with PS4 and PC
    MSRP: $39.99
    COMPATIBILITY: PlayStation 4, PC
    RELEASE DATE: August 2024
    COLOR: Gray, Crystal
    WHAT'S IN THE BOX:
Retro Fighters Mantis Wireless Bluetooth Controller, Quick Start Instruction Manual, USB-C charge cable
Small in size. BIG in features
All the core features you want - packed in a smaller body
The Mantis Mini PS4 wireless controller pulls out all the stops with loads of features:
Hall effect sensors, programable back buttons, variable trigger stops, touchpad with LED indicator bar, built-in gyro, speaker and more!
    Stick it to them!
Eliminate stick drift and improve accuracy
Mantis uses hall effect sensors in both the analog sticks and triggers for greater precision.
Analog stick wear-resistant rings give you that smooth feel while protecting your sticks.
So looking at the Mantis, overall, I think this brings together a lot of what Retro Fighters just does really really well. I think the shape is familiar enough yet derivative enough to be an excellent addition to the family. I love the fact that the D-pad is a solid piece now versus either four separate pieces or something that's separated by the top case of the controller itself. I love the fact that Hall effect sensors have become the norm, and the hall effect triggers are awesome. As I mentioned numerous times in the video the travel limiters on the shoulder buttons or something I really appreciate as someone who plays racing games.
Overall, I think Retro Fighters have done a really good job reinventing the PlayStation 4 controller with the Mantis. It provides enough core functionality from the original and improves in key areas to really make it something special. More colors would be nice, but I think the gray is super sexy looking. Let me know what you think of the mantis down below in the comments.

I really like the feel and form factor of the DualShock 4, but having an alternative with Hall Effect joysticks and back buttons is always nice.

I never owned a PS4, but I am planning to build a gaming PC next year, so this may be the pad I get for that! If I can use it to play PS4 games on the PS5 Pro I plan to get, that’ll be icing on the cake!

This is unnecessary bc PS4 controllers are still in stock. I would rather get a higher quality PS2 controller with a good D pad.

This D-pad could be excellent. Also this has benefits and features over the originals, including the hall effect sensors, trigger limits, and more. Listen, I love the DualShock 4, but this is stunning to consider as well. And aren't more options a good thing?

I have to agree with this. The Dual Shock 4 is great & there's no need for a new PS4 controller.
Maybe as a budget priced competition grade controller?

Except they don't have Hall Effect analog sticks, and thus are prone to stick drift.
That, and the first party ones cost $20 USD more. I don't know about you, but $20 more for a controller with a known defect doesn't look like a good deal to me.

You can probably use this for ps2 assuming you already bought an 8bitdo bluetooth receiver to pair it to.

Limited Run will be closing Pre Orders on June 14th for Piopow on NES. Jeremias Babini will be missed. I lost hope for getting the game. I wanted Famicom though.

Would love a black color though grey is good.

The only thing I don't like about the defender is the triggers they are so sensitive with the original Controllers I would rest my fingers between the buttons with the defender I graze them no pressure at all and I'll get an input resident evil games on the psone doesn't use them so you don't get accidental input for games like that.

I dislike the original Defender controller for PS1/PS2/PS3. Those were definitely sensitive triggers to slightest touch of the button. The Defender Bluetooth edition I actually liked how the triggers felt when pressed. 3:32

Preordered a crystal. Hoping I can pair it with the 8bitdo and use on ps1 and ps2 as well.

STILL waiting for them to do a new Saturn controller…..
(And no, the BrawlGen doesn’t count.)

@@RoXolid Particularly, I want a BrawlerGen for the original Xbox considering the Hunter not having the 6-button layout. All what Retro Fighters has to do is add a couple of clickable analog sticks, a couple of Memory Unit slots and a tethered controller connection cable with breakaway cables for use on original Xbox or PC. (Hopefully the Memory Unit slots will work with Xplorer360 this time.)

Hopefully they follow through with it and not be hyperkin where they announce things then nothing ever comes of it....

Will this work with the PS3 as well? I'm looking at getting a Defender but this seems more comfortable

Well at least it's an original video unlike you who likes to steal other people's content. Makes me wonder how soon I'm going to see one of my videos stolen and up on your channel.
