Do you have any other UA-cam myths that you think are real? Were these myths holding you back?

      Clickbait is bad....
Actually, some degree of clickbait is basically a necessity on UA-cam these days. As long as it's a relevant thumbnail to stop immediate bounce, then it's acceptable, especially if you're getting high click-through.

    • @SamWoodhall

When It comes to "bad performing Videos Hurting Your Channel" There is actually a few other factors involved. Once you find your "niche" on youtube (makeup, Tutorials, Gaming etc) UA-cam will put you in a "Network" of other creators that make similar content. This is in an effort to boost views from "recommended" This can give you a massive boost in views in certain situations. Now if you post TOO many videos that do poorly, That ALSO fall under a different type of content (Different Video Game etc) UA-cam might put you into a new "newtwork" of creators, changing your views from recommended. This can Give you A Massive Boost In views, Or can drastically hurt your channel where your old videos, that did very well, might not do well anymore. It s a bit more complicated than that, but that's a jist of it.
It's not that 1 or 2 bad videos can kill a channel, its when you try to force to much of something new that's not working. Obviously if you plan it out right, and you know that there is a LOT of traffic that wants to watch a certain type of content. You can start switching to that content. It will initially do very poorly, but onc you get associated with it, it can explode the channel.

nailed the posting weekly question. posting weekly is most often recommended because of how it affects and changes the person creating them instead of how UA-cam responds. same deal with quality over quantity 🤘

Quality vs. Quantity is an important discussion. I see people all the time where the quality might be a lot lower than what I consider "good". But what they do have is Quantity and consistency. And now they have sponsored videos and are full time creators.

I love how you explained quality vs quantity. I love how Roberto Blake explained it also: quantity = quantity. Quality is subjective, but quantity is not. The more videos you make, the more you've made. And as long as you're focusing on getting just a little better with each one, you'll not only have a library of videos, but they will be getting better and better with lots of practice. 👍💯

Great video man I agree with everything here! Did want to comment on the LUCK piece though. One thing no one talks about, you should do all the "right" UA-cam things, thumbs, create for people not systems, be engaging etc etc. BUT most large creators had 1-3 videos that BLASTED off this is where luck comes in those same creators could've created 10 amazing high quality videos but only 1 BLASTED off which propelled them to new heights subscribers, $ etc, this is almost ...I repeat almost ALWAYS the case. So there is some LUCK there, this is just my opinion though. My advice create quality until your 1 video that is just like the others takes off then that new audience finds older same quality content and boom ....you did it. Thoughts?

I’d switch to UA-cam for streaming and short form content if only they would be able to put them on different tabs, When someone clicks on your channel through a short they only see shorts so they get what they want this is great but when a viewer clicks on my channel from a video they see my shorts and streams too I don’t want the valuable space on their screen taken up by content that they aren’t looking for. When they come from a video they wanna see another one, when they come from a short they wanna see another one, when they come form a stream they, well they probably just wanna subscribe cause I can’t imagine having the time to watch multiple full stream vods in one day. I just want them seperated but one one channel, hope that somewhat makes sense. This is the only way I can see shorts having a negative impact on the channel.

Hey Sam, dunno if you read comments, but the origin of the "don't post shorts" is the spiffing brit, who has a lot of successful growth hacks.
The real Statement however was, that shorts are much more effective on a shorts-only channel, than having a mix.

    • @SamWoodhall
      @SamWoodhall  2 роки тому

I know, I watched the video. I think that particular myth started as a Chinese whisper to be honest, maybe from a few creators videos. I think combining them has power as well. They've changed slightly since Spiffing Brit made that video. I think they can perform well on whatever channel posts them, but, being aware of the content niche/style is important. As I said in the video, don't post cooking shorts on a gaming channel. It's not the same kind of content. That would do better for a second channel in my opinion.

only thing I disagreed with was the fact that youtube gets to put ADs on channels under the monetization threshold so in that regard I do believe they prefer creators of a certain size before they care about your channel, even the support system being junk till reaching 1k is pretty rough requirement just my opinion though, back in the day 10k views then boom you were set so it has raised the bar but not necessarily gave the tools to the ones under the bar yet

    UA-cam Shorts hurt your channel.
Actually for those who start it could be the contrary.
I post UA-cam videos just for fun, nothing serious. The longest gaming videos I post (5 to 10mins) get like 10 to 50 views. Yes, 50, with average view of 30 seconds watch time.
So I wanted to put more work in 1min videos as a challenge cause it's hard to find what to fit in that minute. It takes more planning and editing, at least for me.
I posted a short and it made 2k views in 3 hours with 30s watch time! So I posted other shorts, and on the 5 or 6 it's between 750 to 2.2K views with 30-45s watch time!
Plus I got nice comments on my voice overs so I'm gonna look what I can do with it.
I think shorts are a good way to experiment and to come up with ideas to catch the attention of the viewers.
    It's worth trying.
My last short took me a few hours of planning and editing. I posted it 2 hours ago and I will certainly learn a lot, negative or positive.
"Gaming channel with cooking shorts..." How did you know I was thinking about doing that? 😂
