Ghaleon in gimp I’ve managed to recreate the light / glow behind the subject the cog was not available so couldn’t do that and wasn’t able to create the 3D text yet lol

A pro tip for those that are on a budget (just like me): you can do the bitmap editing in Pixlr and the vector stuff in Gravit Designer. Both browser based and most importantly: FREE to use.
As soon as I saw that "Edit in Designer" button, I immediately bought both of them...
The fact that you can take your entire photo project and instantly bring it to designer to make vector-based stuff and then switch back so seamlessly is amazing.
The fact that you are willing to explain your process is AWESOME, but what really sets you apart is how well you are able to explain things. I bought these programs but definitely have not been using them to their full potential. Thanks Sam! Can't wait for your next vid!

Really Really good techniques. I am working for most in GIMP and can replicate most of your tips there but I can see how the program you use can speed up the process a lot.

I really hope there is a tutorial for Channel design. Especially the Header since that one is tricky to design for all sorts of devices. Mobile, Tablet, and Desktop.

Just used the knockout text trick for a thumbnail. Its about video games which might not work, but I like the effect & had some fun with it. Always good to keep new tricks in the back of my head. Thanks Sam.

Sam, I always underestimate just how much I love your videos and how wonderful they are. My only gripe (and this isn't a real gripe) is trying to find people who create the same type of videos that you make in programs that I use (Resolve, Gimp, etc) with the same type of quality. I'm too spoiled, and find it difficult to watch some of the tutorial videos on those programs because they just aren't as engaging as the content you create. Thank you for being so awesome, and I can't wait to see what you have planned for the future!

You're a wizard, Harry. I mean Sam. Dangit. Anyway, my point is that I am very much not good at these things, and your tutorials have been helpful. It approaches magic in my eyes, thank you for the content.
For everyone struggling with doing this in photoshop:
The method used here is a bit of a ‘hack’ in that it’s a manual way of creating an effect that you can do using a specific tool. It’s a really nice trick though, would never have thought of this!
Create the text as normal with whatever stroke colour/thickness you want, and then in the bottom right of Photoshop, click FX. Use the drop shadow, adjust the settings so that:
- The colour matches your text outline
- The direction matches the 3d effect you’re after (usually 45 degrees down and left/right)
- The feathering/fade is set to the minimum so it’s just a blocky harsh shadow (I think there’s a couple of settings to play around with here.
Once you’ve got the settings right, you’ll have the same effect but it’ll be easy to make adjustments to the colour, opacity and direction. Also probably less CPU intensive as it’s just one later and one effect.
If you’re struggling with Masking there should be hundreds of tutorials on this. Just search ‘cut out background in photoshop’ and look for PixImperfect, his tutorials are sick.

Absolutely love it that you use Affinity. It's affordable and powerful. Let's guess how many in here asking for PS are actually not paying for their CS software. 😉
I still use Serif PhotoPlus from years ago and have only recently got to grips with how much it can do. Very similar options on there, but having just seen the website is affinity serif com I guess it all makes sense!

Need a MS Paint video for thumbnails. Not even kidding, loads of us are stuck with that simple app and no matter how many times we try to learn more feature rich design apps it just becomes a massive time suck and many of us find it hard to memorise how to use it even if we do muddle through a tutorial.
MS Paint is super basic but apart from paying someone else to make thumbnails, it's just the go to app for many of us.
can you do a video where you explain your new stream HUD cause i really want to know how you actually did the alert box and how it integrated perfectly with the rotating widget. And the sub train please it just looks so cool.
He actually said in his stream this is only exclusive to him, so idk if he will say.

Sam could you show a video where you upload these thumbnails to UA-cam? I can make the thumbnail but I sometimes have problems uploading them correctly to UA-cam and they end up not being the correct resolution or need to be stretched out
