I do love Skye, such a magical place. You are so right about about light being the number one ingredient. I am sure at some point in time we have all got a bit too hung up on gear.
You look really shattered at the end of the video Adam, but no surprise there at all , that was a long day , a good walk up to the top " Fairy Pool " is a good workout in itself , but that climb back up to the car-park can be just as bad L.O.L. , but a cracking set of images from there ,, Ah , Elgol , well 1stly I hope that you enjoyed the drive over , its just beautiful , the scenery everywhere you look it just stunning and then you come to that moment when you come over the brow of the hill for the loch just to open up before your very eyes , just mesmerising , I loved your Images of the " Round Rock " affectionately known as the " Joe Cornish " boulder , but the Image for me was the one with the pink thrift in the foreground , that was just absolutely gorgeous , it has been well worth waiting a week to see this footage Adam , totally inspirational , thank you , Phil
Thanks, Phil! Yes I did recently see an image on the from of one of Joe Cornishes books with the same scene and rock. Hard not to photograph thats for sure.
I really like that cropped shot from the Fairy Pools you ended up with. Also fun we ended up focusing on the exact same waterfall. I had to check an extra time as I had much more water when I was there :)
Adam a brilliant episode as always, I prefer the wider aspect of your edits , I did not mind the brightness parts of the sky . It adds a lot more variations of light ! Brilliant as always great work ! 👌🏻👏
I like the closeup the best, it has a warmth and feel the other lacks. I always learn so much from your video and really enjoy the content you provide. Cheers
That drone intro was stunning mate. Skye coast looks amazing from the air. Good to see Paul in the video. Also nice VO bits filling in some context to the video. The self critiques work really well over your images. Loving the crop image at 10:15. Great video Adam!!
Sgurr an Fheadain is the pointy hill behind the fairy pools. Sgurr Na Stri is the similar shaped hill looking from Elgol. And if you can be arsed walking the 4 miles each way and across a wide river to get to it, the 1,500ft climb up to the top affords some of the best views in all of Scotland. Thanks again for doing all the dreary editing the make this fine videos.
Another wonderful Gibbs video! Perfect start for my Saturday--Tour de France on the TV, we are in the mountains of New Mexico, hummingbirds are on the feeder, camera is on the hummers. Overcast, low contrast morning light. But the Gibbs video makes it all even more special and enjoyable.
thanks to you suggesting to worry about light I've noticed my photos look better now. I used to only go out if there was going to be vibrant colorful skies and end up with nice skies with flat non direct light in the foreground. Thanks for the tips Adam.
Beautiful Adam, just beautiful! That image of the egg of elgol is delicious! And what about those names! Elgol, Fairy Pools, Egg of Elgol, I sure wish we were a little more creative when we were naming features here in America.
15:40 At first, I thought I'd have to give it a bit of thought, but after second look I pretty quickly preferred the wider, more open perspective because the "orb" still has a commanding presence in all of it I feel. In the closer up I feel the additional lighting and prioritization of the orb is a bit harsh and does a misjustice to it's truly gorgeous surrounding. Beautiful vid. Thanks again.
The Round Rock.... I was already thinking there was another composition I liked even before you asked the question.. I like the round rock with the craggy backgrounds... and there is a pano crop that eliminates almost all the sky, keeping just the green background cliff on the right at 13:52 and again at about 14:21 the transition slides into what I like best, (although keeping a just a little bit of the cropped bottom line at these points) except in my preferred crop I would want to lighten just a little bit the distant mountains to give just a hint of texture... on my screen they look really black and almost blend into the sky... close to what you have at 15:23... but in the earlier scenes I prefer the relative size of the boulder... thank you for asking P.S. the closing shot of the seaside cottage looks like it would be a great B&B...
As a wildlife photographer trying to learn about landscape shooting I appreciate how you go into what didn’t work or what would’ve made a shot better. Details like that are just as helpful as settings and filters used and how to set up the composition.
Great shots Adam, I prefer the closeup shot of the round rock. The photo owith the flowers catching the light was great, thanks for sharing. All the best..............Peter.
Great video Adam and what I especially like is that you show the images that don’t work so well and say why. I learn so much from you doing that and it helps me to relate to some of the issues in my images. Cheers Keith.
I liked all the photographs, but for me personally I thought my favourite was the one towards the end, this one had the pink thrift in the front. Lovely. Thanks for a good video, felt as if I was there.
I like the close up image best. I’ve watched yours and Gavin’s vlogs for the last 4 months now and loved the scenes on Vancouver Island in those videos wishing I could visit there one day and low and behold I will be there next year at a family wedding. My camera bag will be traveling with me for sure. Great photographs Adam as usual.
Smashing video again Adam. Glad the light appeared. Round rock shot: I prefer the wider angle close up of the round rock. More focused, simple. The rock and sky aren't competing for attention. However both shots are really lovely. Not sure if you're back.... finally raining here in Vancouver! We need it.
It's nuts. Three years ago, the pools were largely empty with a couple dozen people spread out across the area, max. Was there about when you guys were, and between the new parking lot, the various other path additions, and the hundred+ folks spread out across the valley...have to admit, I never got out of the car, turned around, and went and found some other streams elsewhere on the island. The pools themselves are so intimate, and Scotland itself is so wild - it's a challenge to experience it properly with heavy crowds. Especially with water levels so low because of the summer drought.
Another brilliant video Adam, you have a very calming way about your videos, always so relaxed. All beautiful images, the fairy pools are quite similar to all the wee hidden waterfalls here in Donegal, Ireland. More in bog lands and forest ones too. You and Gavin have inspired me to follow rivers up hills and I have found quite a few. So much fun to photograph. I liked the close up, simpler shot at the end, but then I like them all lol thanks for another brilliant video. 😊
Awesome shot from the Fairy Pools. Been there myself when the water was a bit higher but on a location like this with the good light you can’t go wrong. Still watching the video as i’m writing this so looking forward to other shots from Skye.
Nicely done, Adam. I tend to like tighter compositions over wider ones. The old "Less is more" thing. In this case I actually find the wider composition more pleasing, though I do like the tighter composition quite a lot.
Video like this get my photography energy up!! There is nothing better than finding a beautiful composition with the light popping. It's the 1 out of 10 moment. Adam, I also appreciate your candor and wisdom when critiquing your images. I find this information very useful for my own photography.
VERY inspiring as usual! I’ve officially become one of your disciples as your “preaching” about light is spot on. Not sure I’ve heard any others out there have such an emphatic view on light as you...and your work demonstrates your mantra!
both the images are lovely, but honestly I loved the 2nd one - closer up view of the boulder much better. Honestly it does not matter what you present, as they are always a treat to watch your final processed images :)
Adam, those shots along the coast were really something. You guys were truly blessed with great subject matter and beautiful light. Those shots prove your point about the importance of light when you compare those shots to the ones from the Fairy Pools. The Fairy Pools shots were nice, but nothing like the coastal images.
Adam, as per usual all your images are STUNNING! As for the coastal shots, I'd pick the image with more sky and clouds showing ... no technical reason I just liked seeing a bit more of the overall scene.
Subscribe, tick... Like...tick,.... comment,...tick. That looks to be about the best day you enjoyed on your Scottish trip Adam, The mood of both locations helped by that all important light. Have only been to Elgol twioce and both times I have drawn a blank - the 1st time I hiked up to Camasunary which is the beach you woudl have seen in the distance and I stayed in the bothy on the beach - what a wonderful experience that was. Love Skye but since my 1st visit 10 years ago the tourist boom has really exploded - I was one of just 2 cars on my 1st visit to Fairy Pools. Lovely area further down the Glen and I camped at Loch Brittle. I would have been very happy to come away with these type of images on my visits but have never had the light... for preferences I preferred the cropped almost cinematic look of the Egg of Elgol although tomorrow that opinion could change - photography as you know is like that. atb Alan
This was wonderful, Adam, I so enjoyed watching it! Some beautiful images and out of the 2 you ask about I liked the wider view. Both were so nice but the wide view won out for me. Thanks, Nick
Thanks, Adam for sharing this awesome video. I liked all the photographs, but for me personally, I thought my favorite was the photograph of the cliff with the boulder (Wider one). I would really love to see and learn the post-processing technique of that photo.
The Egg of Elgor image (and should be titled) in my opinion is one of your top 5 this year! The light across the shot is amazing. Slowing the water down was an excellent idea not only to smooth out but to add a somewhat peaceful drama around the egg.
I prefer the longer view w the round rock less prominent. Stunning shots. Again, really like seeing the change from the raw file to the final image. Leslie
Good vlog as ever Adam, but to me the sharper a photo from front to back, the better. That's why i'am going for the d850 in the short future. Amazing sharpness. Thnx for the vlog.
I was there a few years ago and one of my favorite pictures I printed large was the fairy pools at dusk. I only wish I had the whole day to explore the fairy pools. Highly recommended!
Glad to see you took the sea thrift shot. Really nice. I prefer the close-in shot of the round rock. As a matter of fact, I'd even crop it more to drop out the mountains in the back so you only have the rocks and the sea. Probably a good B&W as well.
Hi Adam, another great video, you captured the rock textures beautifully; I did prefer the wide angel exposure mash up shot, the clouds seemed to reflect the texture of the rocks and the similarity in light made the whole scene work; the light seemed to zig zag it's way across the frame from the top left to bottom right and made your eyes absorb the grandeur all the more. The thrift shot was lovely as an ex garden photographer you made those flowers shine. Great inspiration for me, off on a trip to Loch Teacuis had to rent a cottage that I probably won't even use except for battery charging but hey ho.
Another great video Adam. I liked the wider image of Elgol the best of the two. My OCD was bothered by the contrast of the three rock shapes being so dominant in the tighter shot. My favorite by far was the "Seathrift" shot. The light, shadow, and colors contrasted with the pink flowers just brought joy and awe to my heart.
I liked the wider shot of the round stone image! Awesome light and image! "Do you have a video showing how you put together an image with different exposures?
Hello Adam, Great images as always, in particular, the Elgol Egg. A famous walker and author Alfred Wainwright called this view of the Cuillin Mountains as the best view in the United Kingdom. Though I a Scot living in Northern Ireland - but from Edinburgh - my daughter has a B&B place at Portree, in the Ilse of Skye. You looked exhausted at the end but hopefully, with one or two liquid refreshments you will be fine...
Simply wonderful images Adam. The vertical crop of the waterfall was the right choice. I like both variations of the egg boulder image but the one without the bright sky matches the two that follow it, so if showing in a gallery setting I would go with that one. But maybe print the bright one larger. The sea thrift image is especially wonderful. 👍
Adam, great job as usual. On your bolder shot, I do like the closer version. When I first saw the one that included the brighter sky I noticed my eye bouncing between the sky and bolder. I was thinking I would crop it.
Closer wide angle of the round rock is the best IMO. On the fist shot I might have tried a 4x5 crop and left off part of the rock on the right. Of course, I might have tried it and decided the original was better, too 😀
I loved the close up view of the round rock, where you eliminated the distraction of the bright clouds.
SUCH BEAUTY. UR ONE OF THE BEST LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHERS I'VE SEEN IN UA-cam. RESPECT. BRILLIANT SHOTS
"Light is the KEY to good Photography". Truly The photo you presented exemplifies the statement so perfectly.
I do love Skye, such a magical place. You are so right about about light being the number one ingredient. I am sure at some point in time we have all got a bit too hung up on gear.

I really like that cropped shot from the Fairy Pools you ended up with. Also fun we ended up focusing on the exact same waterfall. I had to check an extra time as I had much more water when I was there :)
Haha, I would imagine all photographers gravitate to the same pools and falls, lovely spot though.
Adam a brilliant episode as always, I prefer the wider aspect of your edits , I did not mind the brightness parts of the sky . It adds a lot more variations of light ! Brilliant as always great work ! 👌🏻👏
Beautiful photos. The lower shot with the prominent round rock would be my pick 👍.
8:01 one of the best photos I've seen of the fairy pools! It captured the mood so perfectly!
Love that first shot. The peak is perfect, shrouded in cloud but just able to make it out. Very nice
Excellent Adam. You got great shots there. I like that You critique your images in a nice constructive way.
Jamie Burgoyne that’s EXACTLY why I subbed to him. I learn so much from him.
I like the closeup the best, it has a warmth and feel the other lacks. I always learn so much from your video and really enjoy the content you provide. Cheers
Definitely worth the trip when you get to have those evening shots in the bag. Thanks for sharing Adam.
Can’t decide. Love them all!
That drone intro was stunning mate. Skye coast looks amazing from the air. Good to see Paul in the video. Also nice VO bits filling in some context to the video. The self critiques work really well over your images. Loving the crop image at 10:15. Great video Adam!!
15 sec into this video and I already love it!!!
you are so right about light..we can see the difference between the images. brilliant images!
Sgurr an Fheadain is the pointy hill behind the fairy pools. Sgurr Na Stri is the similar shaped hill looking from Elgol. Love your photos at Elgol. Awesome texture in the rocks 👍
Great video and superb images, I really like the uncropped version too. 😊 📷

I like the close-up view with the round boulder.
Love all the shots here! Such an amazing place! But I especially liked 15:32. Really speaks to my inner geology nerd...
Great video and images. Love the ones with the flowers at the end.
Both great shots but I prefer the wider one, I love a bit of blue sky and cloud.
Adam love the crop shot from the Fairy Pools, Great set from the seashore.
Like the wider angle image of the round rock at Elgar.
Nicer weather than I had with Mr Heaton and Mr Baxter in March, wonderful stuff as always Adam, I love the clouds but I think the BIG Egg
Ah you should've come with us then. ;-)
Beautiful Adam, just beautiful! That image of the egg of elgol is delicious! And what about those names! Elgol, Fairy Pools, Egg of Elgol, I sure wish we were a little more creative when we were naming features here in America.

Excellent shots again. I prefer the wider "egg" shot, since I love the textures on the right side.

I prefer the tighter image with the round rock. Great video as always.
Lovely cameo shots of Elgol. It’s normally the big picture that I have a few off. Next time back I’ll try some cameo shots. You’ve got a great style.
Beautiful images, Adam. Cheers for sharing them with us.
I find the wider version of the egg gives me a much better feeling of place and context. Thanks so much for all your work its a pleasure to watch.
Great shots Adam, I prefer the closeup shot of the round rock. The photo owith the flowers catching the light was great, thanks for sharing.
All the best..............Peter.

Fantastic vlog Adam, and great series from Scotland in general. keep up the great work.

Great! thank goodness for weddings, lol
I love that shot from Elgol Adam!
Great shots, Adam!! My favorites are the close one and the one with that really beautiful pink flowers in the foreground.

What Awesome Drone footage in the first scene!
Aaron Evans never fails with his drone work!
Thanks for sharing. Great content, as always. I like the closer up shot better. Little bit cleaner and simpler. 👌
Hi Adam.... amazing shots... regarding the round boulder shots, I liked the wider angle best.
Liked all of the elgol images. Excellent work.
Hi, I preferred the cropped image of the fairy pool and my favourite image was the shot with the sea thrift.
I prefer version 3. To my eye, eliminating the bright clouds simplifies and strengthens the composition. Thanks for another great video.
Absolutely beautiful Uncle Grumpy, I love how peaceful you tell the story if your journey through the video.
Excellent, as always. You are indeed a master photographer. Never mind what Gavin thinks.😉
Amazing Adam loved the video thanks for sharing with us.

good call with the cropping of the waterfall. and I couldn't agree more about LIGHT is KING!
Wonderful photos. 😀❤️. For me the close up of the boulder is my preferred shot. Cheers Darren
Very enjoyable and informative . Plus: some of the best B roll gesticulations on UA-cam.
1spitfirepilot those drone shots thooooo
haha you liked those eh? deep conversation about life
Lovely shots
I liked the close up of the boulder, loved how it had a silver gold shine
I always learn something about composition elements from your videos. Thanks!
Thanks for another great video. I like the cropped one better. No distractions.

Excellent stuff as always sir. Really loved the images at the 8:40 mark
The photos are great but I really enjoy your music selection. Complements the atmosphere.
Lynette Henry it’s the hardest part about making a video lol he’s always on point with his sound.
Really liked the close up of the round rock, beautiful color on that rock. Fantastic location. As always, thanks for an inspirational video.
This was wonderful, Adam, I so enjoyed watching it! Some beautiful images and out of the 2 you ask about I liked the wider view. Both were so nice but the wide view won out for me. Thanks, Nick

Thanks again Adam for sharing. I enjoyed the last photo.
Beautiful shots Adam👍🏻 stunning scenery! Nice to see you up in Scotland 🏴
Amazing images. I prefer the wide angle of egol. It’s open the scenery and give more feel of the hugh of the landscape. Wonderful editing of this.
La Duderina well said and good observation!
@@molopez619 Thanks but I can't take the credit; have learned a lot watching this channel. :D
Coming out shortly, thanks!
Never disappointed with your art. Keep having fun.

Amazing images. As ever, I am so impressed by how you can deliver outstanding images, time after time, irrespective of what nature throws at you.
Just amazing! Loved it all , preferred the wide angle of the photos at the 13/ 14 min mark but both are spectacular. Those rock are really something.
I enjoyed the closer photo of the spherical rock. So beautiful in an otherworldly way. Thanks for sharing. 🐼✌️
Great stuff Adam.
Adam, great job as usual. On your bolder shot, I do like the closer version. When I first saw the one that included the brighter sky I noticed my eye bouncing between the sky and bolder. I was thinking I would crop it.
