    Once again epic shots and advice. My 8 yr old daughter watches videos of teenagers watching videos of others 'teensgers' watching videos!! Usually, when I check their view count, it's like 8 million plus!! WTF!!!! Here, you provide education, entertainment and epic photos. I know UA-cam seems to have become the younger generations TV set but I sure hope you get the recognition you deserve for all the amazing content you give us. Thank you so much, Adam. I am a struggling musician and a photography fanatic from Vancouver Island and I share your content with those I can. Keep going!

    Was refreshing to hear you call yourself a "tourist." All too often I hear photographers talking negatively about all those pesky tourists getting in the way..... just because our cameras are bigger and we have tripods doesn't make us anything but tourists. Enjoyable video.

    I remember when you had mentioned in the past that you were photographing gardens for many years. I think the experience you gathered from doing that reflects to how you photograph landscapes today, because photographing gardens in overcast/cloudy skies are ideal conditions. Experience speaks for itself, those RAW files tell the whole story. great video, Adam!

    Thanks Adam. I really enjoyed this video. It was interesting to see the raw images for the untouched differences in contrast. What a lovely setting the lighthouse is in! As usual, your drone photography is superb! I am curious about the ISO 31, since the base ISO for that camera is 64. I have seen the "lo" ISO setting, so I am guessing it was one of these. My question is, what would be the impetus for using this this "lo" setting? Is there a trade off of some sort that makes NIKON describe if as "LO" and not with a number? I have not experimented with this, and I'm quite curious. Funny - I'm realizing as I write how reluctant I am to 'play' with things I don't understand. Lol!

    " Brides Veil Waterfall " is such a beautiful spot and you have captured it beautifully , the 1st 2 images are quite stunning but the 3rd one has to be one of the best compositions that I have seen of the falls , and your processing of it is just superb , Neish Point , well I hope you enjoyed the walk out, it really is a beautiful spot , not the best of roads to get there although they have improved it over the last couple of years , your images from there , although the lack of cloud are again something special , you can take a camera to any special spot but it takes someone with a special eye for composition to capture Images as you do , just excellent work , p.s. I hope you enjoyed the walk back up to the top , with the amount of visitors there { especially the older ones like me L.O.L.} they should really consider installing a lift , take care , Phil

    Lovely images Adam... Gavin & yourself are in a lovely part of the world methinks. Interesting subject matter regarding contrast because in the end it does indeed require good light. As you have often stated, light is first & foremost the most important element in photography. Bright sunlight, simply put, is not my prefered conditions when in the field shooting landscapes, wildlife or people for that matter...

    My favourite is the last shot of the lighthouse - then again, I love lighthouses... Did you try the waterfall with the Old Man of Storr in the background? Somehow that would be more my personal aim to put the image in its greater setting, as an image of a waterfall as such it`s nice but nowhere near your Vancouver Island shots (perhaps the absence of trees is beginning to take its toll...)

    Neist Point is one of my favourite places on the planet. The lighthouse is only a fraction of the interest here, so many great little spots around the point, yet nearly everyone stands on that cliff for the "classic" view. A few hours of mackerel fishing, watching pilot whales hunt close to shore and then some cracking evening light shots of the point, right where you were standing. What a place. Shame about the bus loads now invading Skye.

    Very much enjoy your stuff Adam. I note you often shoot at f16 rather than focus stack - I'd be interested in your thoughts around that. I find that even f11 is significantly softer than f8 - maybe that's a Zeiss characteristic, don't know ?

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  5 років тому +1

      For sure a smaller aperture like f/16 is often not as sharp as say f/8 or the like. The thing is, 99.9% of my images are posted online and absolutely no one is going to notice any difference, except me. Focus stacking is great but it takes more time behind a computer and in most cases stopping down is enough to produce an adequately sharp image with great depth. Just my opinion.

  • @thevalleywalker

    I think I preferred the cooler look of the Neist Point images Adam althugh they both had their merits. As you sau, would have been nice to have some clouds but then again the weather could have been so much worse on your visit. On my visits to to Neist in the past I have only ever taken images from up on the clifftop although I have walked down to the lighthouse - don't really trust myself that close to the water..lol. It's a shame you couldn't do the Old man of Storr, for me along with the Quiraing it has to be one of the most dramatic scenes on the Isle. Not been there but if ever I could do one location on Skye it would be from the summit of Sgurr Na Stri which takes in the whole of the Black Cuillin range - search out some images, well worth the hike I reckon. atb Alan

      Yep, big time fan here since the very beginning 1982 I believe. New album coming out soon, excited as usual, lol.

    Hey Adam, great video, I really enjoy your content. Do you use any polarising filters on your Mavic? I recently bought PolarPro cinema filters but I haven't put them to any use, yet..

    just wondering why you shot waterfalls at such a narrow depth of field

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  5 років тому

      You mean at a greater depth of field, right? f2.8 or the like would give you a narrow depth of field, a higher number more depth. cheers!

    Great presentation. You mention that you exposed for the white light house building. Do you mean that you used spot metering on that?

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  5 років тому +1

      Not really, I just took a number of exposures and used the one that didn't have the highlights blown out. A more professional way would be to spot meter on the highlights and go from there but since using digital I have gotten really lazy, lol.

    Very nice tutorial, the composition of the 1st waterfall image was so on point.

    What’s do these bloody words... ‘warder’ and ‘warderfall ’ ...actually mean? Also, what’s ‘shudder speed’ mean? I think I may get this when I neck too much whiskey!?

    Why does Gavin look like Frodo to Adam’s Gandalf in the workshop announcement? There is some weird distortion happening there.

    cool video and cool hat! I really like the chilled music at the start. I also use Epidemic Sound so if you can recall the name of that particular track i would appreciate it as it sounds like it might suit a travel video i have planned

    I sound like a broken record but you have some of the smoothest drone videos. Could you do a video on your settings and techniques?

    Hey Adam. I got a notification of the upload of this video. But the video isn’t in my subs feed and it’s not listed on your videos tab. Thought you might want to check it out.

      Yeah weird, I had the video listed on my phone but not my partner, not sure what the issue is.

    Thanks Adam. How do you know when the light is right? How did you learn that? I find it hard to find a good timing esp. when conditions change quickly. Thus I take several shots and brackets, constantly hoping that some shots will be good enough for PP.

      Re Rod generally speaking I enjoy overcast light for intimate shots and more direct light for landscapes
