Why the jury hanged is anyone's guess, juries are mysterious. Since their defense was entrapment I would assume their strategy was to have her cry and play the innocent helpless victim. I find the commercial mortgage lending company story a little disconcerting, in that, the cops at first refused to do anything. I mean, not even talk to the party who is doing the threatening, in writing. Next thing you know, the man who is threatened is dead! This gave the bad guys ample time to orchestrate his murder. The only way this 911 call works is when someone else calls for you after you are dead. His wife's testimony is very heart breaking. She said that there are clearly no winners in this situation. The outcome of the trial changes nothing. And as perfect as the prosecution was said for this case, these 2 bozos still got a second trial, even though Mr Beauchamp got no second chance at life. All the shopping around these guys did, prior to this murder, did not convince a Judge that they planned it? Karim, who actually did the shooting, gets life after 18 years, but Bob who hired him is out in 4 years. It sounds toxic. It means the Court decided that Mrs. Beauchamp's husband's life was worth 4 years to the man who literally in writing threatened to take it!

What your pointing out is a major deficit in the public safety system. People that are threatened , harassed and stalked may not be taken seriously until it's too late. I am not sure why this is, my guess tied to resources / cost to have officers respond and watch the well being of at risk individuals.

His mistake was reporting it to the wrong person. A 911 dispatcher takes reports of low level crimes happening currently, like thefts and assaults. Being the president of a mortgage company, he should have reported the situation to someone much higher up the food chain than a random dispatcher he happened to get connected to by calling 911. He should have made an appointment to meet with the chief of police along with his lawyer so they could properly explain the seriousness of the situation to someone who has the authority to do something about it.

The man borrowed $1 million with an $18k fee. When his project failed he could have filed bankruptcy but he didn't. The man didn't set this amount the bank itself did. He knew when he signed that contract he was obligated to pay. He didn't know his housing project would fail but he should have thought of that problem happening. Some never think of the cons of what could happen when doing something like this. They only think of the pros like the money they'll make. You have to plan for the worst and this guy acts like offing the loan manager would make the debt disappear. Nope that's not how it works. Now he has to serve time and still pay the loan.

Then, in an apparent effort to get his adversary to make _explicit_ threats that would be legally actionable, he insults the guy. But he said, in his own words, that a "war of words" would not move him. So he's trying to get this guy to make verbal threats, but at the same time, he's explicitly telling him that words aren't enough. Kind of a whoopsie, you know, looking back.
