Henk Poort is a classical trained A class actual opera singer, who on aged 60+ still went and learned how to add the grittier sound to his voice

Yes it really is! I've listened to the whole thing through about 4 times today, and am amazed by it each time!
I will be honest, I hated it and am gutted! Around 3 songs I thought were great, but for me, most the album is a throw away, much preferred endless forms.
I'm sad for you that you feel that way! I absolutely love it. It is adventurous and wonderful. I love that they make music for them and let us join on the ride rather than just trying to please everyone. Not one album has made me unhappy yet.

Sure the music is great but I mean this is Floor Jansen, and we all know what Floor means to us and what are her abilities: powerful energetic versatile voice.. not that much demonstrated in the new album !!
I think it's kinda interesting to see how everyone there is in relatively casual clothes (one of the other singers is in a t-shirt for crying out loud), and Poort, being from a bit of an older generation, is standing there literally full suit and bow.
Floor is an extraordinary unique talent and we lucky to have her.

If ever there was a power duet sung live with so much passion, it is this one! I don't think I have ever heard a duet, sung by 2 artists who are so in to each other without being 'involved'! Floor is a childhood fan of Henk Poort ever since she saw him perform as The Phantom. Henk wanted to perform this song on the condition that he may perform this live at a later date with Floor's band Nightwish!!! They are awesome...both individually and together. I want to hear more!!! Love your reaction btw...especially the water splashing!!

Henk Poort was in the 90's the original Phantom in the dutch version of The Phantom of the Opera. He also played in Les Miserables and was the dutch voice of the beast in Belle and the Beast
And floor Jansen fronts Nightwish. Try ghost love score live at wakken, this UA-camr reacted to it also
In all honesty, nobody outside of the Dutch metal scene has ever heard of Floor Jansen before this TV show. After it aired she did a whole SOLD OUT Tour in our little country, with dates added selling out as well. She also brought the band of this show and Henk Poort for this song. Now she's one of the most well known artists in the Netherlands and also Nightwish has multiple sold out shows now too, compared to normally just doing 1 show. The whole metal scene is frowned upon in the Netherlands by mainstream media. Even good, softer, metal music doesn't get any playtime. But the metal community is pretty big. Every band has at least one stop on European tours. Though I do think that the Dutch metal heads are spoiled by this. Only really turning up for the main acts and not really supporting or even cheering the opening bands.
That’s so odd, given how many great metal bands that have come out of the Netherlands.
I really dislike the fact that opening bands never got any great support from the audience here, however my first show had sonata arctica as opening band (8-11-2004 in Paradiso) fell in love with them and went to several shows since then. Same with Beast in Black and Amorphis. Sometimes you get to discover other great bands and sometimes they suck but i will applaud for every one of them because they made an effort and even if i didnt like it they still stood there.
Actually, we all After Forever and Nightwish fans knew Floor all along...
That's cool that she is becoming more well known in the Netherlands. I think she said in one of her interviews that helping metal become more popular and more widely accepted is one of her career goals. At least I'm pretty sure she said something like that in an interview. Ha ha.

Thanks for reacting to Floor again! I'd really to see your reaction to "Winner" from the same show. It's a really special song written by Tim Akkerman who is also on the show but performed by Floor in his honor. I just can't get over the amount of power and emotion she puts into this song and really makes it a masterpiece. Although I do like all of her performances this is one of my favorites even counting the many many Nightwish songs she performs. Thanks again!

Dude the first time I saw this I felt like I was watching history being made. I seriously thought Floor was going to go super saiyan on that last note. Check out every song Floor sang on this show, which I think is 6? Especially that Lady Gaga Shallow cover. I think there's a reasonable argument to be made that she is the best singer of our generation. Also check out Henk's Sound of Silence cover.

Some fun facts:
- Henk Poort played the role of the Phantom originally back when it was a theatershow here in Netherlands (NL)
- Poort has also been one of Floor's idols/inspirations for years, and now she gets to do a song with him.
- The show was just that, a show to get singers to do stuff outside of their normal stuff and out of their comfortzone.
(examples being that ridiculously high note at the end, and Poort throwing in the rawness in his voice.)

Not only is this Nightwish's arrangement for Phantom, but Henk Poort learned how to put distortion in his voice to do this song as well as the Sound of Silence. Distortion is a huge no-no in the Opera business. And if you watch Floor during the performance, all that joy is genuine. Henk is HER Phantom and her idol. She is just fangirling the hell out of it up there.

Beste Zangers (it means 'best singers') is a dutch show where 6 singers get together to sign songs for each other. Each week all the others singers sing for one of them. The song has to have meaning to that person. Could be that it's their song, or it could be that they particularly like that song, or have some other connection to it. It's a great show. And the 2019 version really brought Floor into the spotlight for a lot of people that don't listen to metal.
