      He always spoke of a tryptic that imparted an immense impression upon him from an early age. The journey from Jester>Philospher>poet. A jester simply tells jokes, but a jester who tells jokes based on very sound ideas becomes a jester+philospher, and if one can do so with such splendid and eloquent use of language then he will become the philosopher+ poet.
      Later in life he said he reached a point where he could do that tryptic Justice.

    Somebody once remarked "that if you scratch a cynic you will find a disappointed and discouraged idealist". I believe this describes what happened to George Carlin. Once people become old enough to face reality and realize that the world is a terminal, they become bitter and hopelessly cynical. Just about every older person I knew became tired and crotchety.

    • @grandmalovesmebest
      @grandmalovesmebest 5 років тому +3

      Jim Thompson Yes. That is true. Losing all your idealism to realism takes years and pops your optimism. But it is also true that you get bored by age and look for new ways to become a new person. Especially, ppl think old folks are square (old folks word) and don't know anything anyway. Trying to make yourself heard, trying to be relevent, is so hard at a certain age that not only do you truly become crotchety, you have to be crotchety to receive any attention at all.

Unfortunately, the lack of jobs in the US (and elsewhere) made enlistment an attractive option. However, todays kids are the latchkey/daycare kids, not the Ozzie and Harriet/Leave it to Beaver kids of the Vietnam era. They wouldnt have much of a problem with war I should think, unless it would be getting them to put their tablets and cell phones down to pay attention to their commander. (Sorry kids.)

    • @Egoblivion
      @Egoblivion 8 років тому +1

      Carlin equals brilliant, but he wasn't right about everything. I think his biggest achievement was t to become one of the greatest living provokers who is still relevant. For example, he was wrong about the environmental movement, not about the fact that the earth will probably survive us regardless of how we treat it, but about that if we can reverse our destructive activities to earth, then why not? He didn't know that we'd be having increasingly able technology and we're coming up on transitioning to renewable energy. It won't be that hard; it will just happen and life will be easier and incidentally no more destruction...

    • @skyler114
      @skyler114 8 років тому +4

      +Mitchell S. Well he thinks humans are too vain, divisive, gullible, and corralled by people who dont give a fuck about them for it to matter. The powerful push a brand of environmentalism that exercises control over the populace and lets them keep their bottom line as they destroy more of the planet, just as long as it not directly harming them. There are solutions that aren't explored because they simply dont see it benefiting them more relatively.

Couched in humor that everyone loved made him infallible. Later on he survived bc the govts of the world knew he was harmless. It's funny how comedians can do that, but think about it, do you know any group of people more real than comedians!? I mean... 90's comedians and prior? Not the current "i can't say that because it hurts feelings and my Netflix special won't happen" generation of comedians.
    George Carlin, Carl Sagan, Peter Steele. All VERY different but extremely influential people to me. Not that i ever accomplished some amazing feat of human discovery, and i sure af won't be remembered for a youtube channel with 9k subs, but i like to think i contribute to this place in a meaningful way, and i didn't turn out to be a Marxist Libtard so i'll call that good enough lol.

    Todays SJWs would poop their collective pants over Carlin if he were still alive. If they were to build a Mt Rushmore to comedians in history, Carlin would be up there.

      TBH, I think he'd make fun of people who use terms like "SJW" about as much as he would so-called "SJW"'s. Not that I care all that much what a dead comedian would say today.

      Diego Carrera Yeah, It's fun to read the moronic shit that SJW's type. Miller used to be funny, but now he says shit I don't like. Carlin hates America. Why are people laughing? Boo fucking Hoo. Both of these guys are (were) good people and great comedians. COMEDIANS !!!!! Making you laugh AND making you think was the fucking point!!!!

      Diego Carrera too bad Richard Pryor cant be on said mountain. for being a homosexual and fucking Marlon Brando from the movie The Godfather. This happened while Brando was a thinner man. Openly admitted by Richard Pryor... and confirmed as true by testimony of Richard Pryor's friends and his widow.

      Joe, I'm pretty sure the essence of what he's saying is: what if - even during a draft - young people refused en masse to go fight. The government can't simply prosecute and imprison millions of people across an entire generation.
