Making A Sheetmetal Spoiler For My Silgea - (Custom Nissan Stagea)

  • Got a random burst of motivation and decided to spend some time on my Silgea (Front Swapped Nissan Stagea) and start with repairing the crash damage from it being rear ended.
    Whilst unpicking the garnish pieces from the tailgate I realised how bent and twisted it all was, so I decided to straighten and remake most of the tailgate to something less ugly than the factory components.
    Shortening the taillights and removed the key lock and handle, adding in a more subtle plate recess.
    Got caught in the old "while I'm here" trap and decided to remake the rear spoiler out of sheetmetal to replace the one I previously made 7 years ago.
    Greatly underestimated the time it would all take as it was quite a complex shape - 7.5 days in total. 5.5 in metalwork and 2 days in bodywork.
    Pretty happy with the end result. Blends in much nicer but more repair work is yet to come for the car before it heads to have the roof and front panels repainted as there's brake fluid on the roof and a big dent in the bonnet.
    Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

    G'day from West Australia😉👍
    1. Love the tailgate work.
    2. Real car guys tend to work on there own stuff whenever there is a spare few minutes.
    3. When faced with several days at our disposal real car guys hook in and do whatever they want to achieve.
    4. Spoken by a man coming up to 43yrs trade life in Febuary 2024.
    5. Hope your New year sees all you wish to accomplish flow from your hands into metal mastery😊👍👍

    epic build! annoying when stuff breaks just doing something simple. i remember countless times thinking afterwards.. if i put an old doona down while installing xyz that might not have broke when it fell. could be something to consider if it's not getting in the way constantly(trip hazard)
    thought you'd have glued in a waterproof electrical button for the tailgate into the glass, mechanical one be more reliable though no doubt.

    • @notevn
      @notevn  8 місяців тому +2

      Haha yeah I didn't notice it was cracked until I took the masking tape off it😅, initially I was going to do elec button or keyfob popper but I just felt mechanical was easier and you can lift the hatch open from in the hole,otherwise you'd have to push the button and push up on the spoiler or something.
      It will all be waterproof when it's glued to the glass face unless you put the hose directly into the hole I guess 😅 just needs a little spring loaded cover plate so there is no hole visible in the glass and I'll be happy with it.

    • @notevn

      Nah I haven't added one to it yet I will drill a hole and put a little nipple there with some washer bottle hose and route it to the bottom of the tailgate.

    That hole for the tailgate opener might be bad idea because now water can be trapped in that tube and rust it out. Maybe button can be just below glass surface with rubber boot sealing hole but can still push button.

    • @notevn
      @notevn  8 місяців тому

      Yeah it's all stainless pipe and base plate just haven't drilled a hole in the base for a barb and rubber drain tube yet, should be fine. Originally was going to do a button but rather mechanical and gives you an area to pull open the tailgate (or would be a two hand operation ,one pushing the button ,one lifting off the spoiler to open)

    Hey man pocket the back of spoiler light so water cant track back into the cavity?

    • @notevn
      @notevn  8 місяців тому

      Yeah for sure man I just need to run the wiring and then I'll soak in there with cavity wax and just make a little pocket that's glued in with sealer I don't want to block it off as no access to repair dents in the future will be a nightmare.

    Where can someone find those wheels? I already know they are vs and everything but where can someone find a good price for a set that is legit

    • @notevn
      @notevn  8 місяців тому

      I don't understand the price hikes either, I think they owe me like 2k new and people are selling them for like 6k these days 😅 makes no sense, like most of the parts on this car (confetti recaros owe me 400 for the pair lol) I got them when imports were good cars because they were fun and cheap, before prices went dumb because of the 25year rule in the us.

    How did you remove the taillight from the tailgate?

    • @notevn
      @notevn  3 місяці тому

      Which one? The factory upper just unbolts

    • @BrandonCruz-gg3jv
      @BrandonCruz-gg3jv 3 місяці тому

      @notevn the center ones. I have all the bolts removed. But I can't pull them off. The corner ones were no issue. Do I need to heat them up?

    • @notevn
      @notevn  3 місяці тому +1

      Oh they are just a bit sticky from the sealer, put a plastic prybar under them and slowly lift and they should start to separate the seller and come off. The lenses crack easily so be patient. I didn't use heat as it would prob warp the lenses given how fragile they are
