      I would use a water tank and a copper tube with endcap.
      Place the copper tube in the middle fill the container with water so 1-2 " will be on the outside then pour the molten salt inside will the water heat up and how much would it heat up?

    Please try making sodium metal by performing electrolysis on liquid salt forming chlorine gas and sodium metal, and if you where careful be a cool experiment that would leave you with some sodium, another cool material! Like if you agree!

    • @D3M1N1
      @D3M1N1 6 років тому +3

      I love the idea but think that they lack the materials to pull it off without the Na simply absorbing moisture in the air and igniting

    • @EnderUnknown
      @EnderUnknown 6 років тому

      Yea, that would be tough, you would need lab or something with little moisture

    • @Unmannedair

      It would work, but they'd get poor quality sodium from it. There'd be a large amount of sodium oxide unless they used a gas shield.

    • @ipoint01

      It can be done, but it is much easier to use sodium hydroxide because it becomes liquid at a much lower temperature. However, you must have the proper face shielding and body shielding since liquid NaOH is really caustic.

      Pure sodium (Na) is naturally reactive with water, so that would make sense; table salt is also known as sodium chloride, or NaCl, and in a molten state the thermal energy would make the sodium react instantaneously with water, with explosive results as the reaction produces hydrogen gas, which would ignite from the heat alone.

    In pottery and ceramics there is a method called "salt glazing". I dont know the chemistry behind it, but essentially salt is dropped into a kiln so quickly that it vaporizes/melts and fuses with the clay to form a clear glass like textured glaze on the pottery.

    Could you still use/eat the salt as table salt after you melted it and crunched it up again?

    you should try casting with salt anyway :D might not be perfect but might still be fun to do

      Yes, but it is interesting to see it done in their better vacuum chamber.

    • @matteedstrom

      Why? Electricity has no change in vacuum!

    • @cobalt7530
      @cobalt7530 6 років тому

      Matte Edström electricity itself doesn't, but electric arcs do. They are made of ionized air. If there is a lot less air, arcs behave differently. As you may know, tesla could produce arcs, so that means they will look different in a vacuum chamber.

    @The King of Random, you should do a video of dropping ice in the molten salt but closing the top so I cant reject the ice cube. Also try pouring the salt on a big chunk of ice maybe?

    It would be cool if you got a new clean crucible melted salt casted it then tasted it. I was disappointed that you didn't at least lick the cooled down salt
