  • In today's video we're melting down salt and finding out what happens when it goes head to head with dry ice! TKOR shows you all the steps you need to know how to create a frozen molten salt trick. In this video we're taking a look at all the parts we'll need and we’re running through the more complicated components. TKOR tests all the different ways of mixing dry ice with molten salt.
    This cold, yet fun experiment has been a phenomenal project and King Of Random loved every moment of it! This is perfect for those wanting to know melt salt, molten salt hacks, salt and ice tricks, ice salt science, liquid salt hacks, molten salt vs dry ice, how to make dry ice, molten salt in water science, ice and salt science experiments, or a cool science project.
    If you want to try something new and creative or an activity such as: science experiment, cool dry ice experiments, amazing inventions...watch the video to learn more. This is a perfect weekend project guaranteed to give you loads of fun!

    I have 4 ideas that I think are going to be pretty cool! :) Please try them!
    1. Grind up some sparklers and make homemade thermite
    2. Put some lithium in a divot in a block of dry ice with some water and see if it will burn
    3. Run a ridiculously large amount of voltage through some light bulbs in a series circuit and make them simultaneously pop
    4. Put a stun gun or some electric current near a metal spinning fan blade

    What if you did different experiments with diet Coke and mentos? Like put Coke in the vacuum chamber for awhile and then put the mentos in. Or freeze the mentos in liquid nitrogen and add it. See how well they react after the diet Coke has been frozen and thawed. Stuff like that would be awesome.

      If you put the Coke into a vacuum chamber, you'll pull out all the CO2, so when you drop the Mentos in it'll do nothing, since the Mentos supposedly acts as a nucleation site for all the CO2 to bubble out, quickly forming the foam geyser. Freezing it likely won't have any effect other than being... well... frozen. If you freeze it inside the container and assuming the container doesn't leak, it'll carbonate again when it thaws, but if it's not sealed, it'll lose the carbonation and the Mentos won't do anything, again.
      As always I'd suggest just doing some research and learning about this stuff before making suggestions.

      The ones made with water work better presumably because the leidenfrost effect. It's actually slows the cooling process and puts it under less strain.

    Can you melt dirt?

    • @MGSLurmey
      @MGSLurmey 6 років тому +2

      Dirt, or soil, is mainly minerals from the rock below it and organic matter from the plants above. So once you've burnt out all the organic matter, it depends entirely on the rock below as to whether you could melt it or not. Some minerals, like silicon dioxide from rocks like chert, melt at extremely high temperatures, higher than steel. While others like calcium carbonate from limestone, melt at relatively low temperatures, closer to that of Aluminium.
      You'd basically be melting rock.

    • @jeshi1779
      @jeshi1779 6 років тому +2

      And that is why it'd be interesting

    • @MGSLurmey
      @MGSLurmey 6 років тому +1

      I wouldn't call it interesting as if you know what rock they use, you'd be able to easily hypothesise the outcome. Find out the area they do the testing in, like which county in which state, and you can fairly easily find out the rock type below their feet. Do a little research on said rock and you'd pretty easily come to a conclusion by comparing the melting points of the minerals comprising the rock with the burning temperature of the fuel they use in the foundry.

      Dry Ice would likely do nothing in a microwave. A microwave heats with radiation. It causes water molecules in food to become active filling them with energy causing them to move extremely fast producing heat. Dry ice does not contain water.

    Melt sodium metal in the foundry then put it in water... Will it react more or less than a piece of solid sodium?

    • @jonathannguyen4176
      @jonathannguyen4176 6 років тому

      Compare to his solid sodium metal salt thing in his collab video. TheBackyardScientist has the molten salt. Compare those two, but generally speaking here the Solid Sodium Metal always explodes with ease and power depeding on size. Molten salt has a hard time to trigger and doesn't explode that much compared to the solid sodium metal.

    Hey King of Random, what happens if u mix a few molten liquids all together?

    • @MGSLurmey
      @MGSLurmey 6 років тому

      Depending on what they are, you could get alloyed metals, metal amalgams, or just liquids layered depending on their densities. If you put mercury with molten gold you'd get a mercury-gold amalgam, while if you put molten tin and molten copper together, you'd get bronze alloy.

  • @TheWanderingN00b
    @TheWanderingN00b 6 років тому

    Fun video, but was sorta dissapointed when the molten salt was poured into the pot of dried ice chunks because of how much of the molten salt completely missed the pot. I mean I haven't ever experimented like this and obviously without knowing the effect I understand pouring it fast, but it wouldve been much more exciting if it had fully been poured in. That's just my take tho, keep up the great work!
