Yeah it’s my home base ’cos it’s all about the reference and that amp I know the best since I’ve played with 800s over 30 years 😎. Kinda sets the ballpark 👌. Thanks!

Try the Boost at 5, bass at +10 with the knob pulled out, Mid at + 2 with the knob pulled out, and treble at +05 with the knob pulled out. Dynamics dimed and Tone at 3, also use a TS-9 with the treble up to 12:00 and output dimed with drive at 1 or zero.
A very underrated amp that you very effectively compared and contrasted to the classic 5150 in a way that will get many to appreciate the core potential of the Ironheart as a high gain monstrosity. Great show! \m/
I found it hard to pick a favorite when you played the short rhythm piece through the 4 different amps .. they all sound amazing .. I went out and bought the ironheart 120 head after my jcm 900 died after 30 years and I really like it a lot its great... I love your playing to btw 🤙
Great comparison and playing as always! It was good to see it compared to the original 5150. When I bought my Ironheart, I played it against the 6505. To me, I felt like the Ironheart was what I wished the 6505 was. It had more useable features (I feel like the features are not just for show, I feel like they are all useable and make the amplifier better), better clean channel, and more sounds I liked out of it
Brilliant video again, mate. I've used the Ironheart IRT rack version extensively in the studio already and always loved it. Rock on and have a great weekend!
You know what I like about your gear videos? That you turn the Master Volume UP! Most UA-cam guys just review gear at some funny low levels where tube amps are simply not working well. You find the sweet spot and make anything sound insane! Thank you man!
That’s the way 😎. If one doesn’t do that it’s a bit like getting a Mustang Shelby and just using the first gear and barely touching the pedal. Like what’s the point in that 😁. Thanks man! Glad to hear!
I recently scored one of these in a steal of a trade. I like the amp a lot. Sounds great even at low volume without much loss of the tone. It's versatile as well with lots of tonal options. I like it. I am curious how it sounds with EL34s though.
Great playing & a great demo as always! I have an Ironheart 120 head (Running into a 2x12 Laney cab with V30's). Lead tones are phenomenal & so are the rhythm ones. it's my go to amp for almost anything these days. Versatile in the sense that it sounds good no matter how I have it set up. Really quick/easy to dial in and get exactly the tone I want/that's in my head every time.
1:09 WTF?! that is such a cool riff/fill. These amps get put down a lot, I think they sound pretty damn good. A great option if you don't have over 3gs for a mesa or similar. If you have a good ear you can probably dial in what you need. If you suck, it sucks. So there :)
Awesome amp! I think alot of people overlook the Laney amps, I just bought a Laney 65 watt combo 1 x 12 and it sounds amazing, loud af too! not as great as a tube head, but very happy with it, great demo as always Euge!
Morjes Euge! Nyt on pakko heittää kommentti ja kiittää. I bought an IRT30 one year ago, a 30W combo version of Ironheart. It sounded ok but not great. I had really hard time dialing it in with all those push and pulls and whatnots. Tried everything! The sound just did not come alive and responsive no matter how I boosted it. Today I checked out this video and noticed that you were running the channel volume quite high, about seven. All this time I thought that the "attenuator" pot was master volume but it 's not, it's the channel volume! So I cranked the channel volume to 7 and holy mother of matadords did that thing blast! I used the attenuator on the Ironheart and an additional volume pot on fx loop to drop the overall volume to family-friendly-level and it still sounded really, really nice. Like a different amp.
This has been my main amp since I was in high school, and I still feel like I'm discovering new things about it. It can go from tight modern gain, to a very convincing recreation of a 2203/2555x. I keep thinking about upgrading, until I realize there's nothing better for the price.
If you didn't tell me the Laney had 6L6's I would have thought it had EL34's. I really like the way it sounds. Great work as always Euge. Have a great weekend 🤘 🤘
Great demo. It feels like you really took the time to dicover the amp and dial it in with all of the push/pulls. The rhythm sounds a lot like my VH100R. The lead sounds more modern in a good way!! What a versatility monster!
I am just about to buy one of these to go with my JCM800 because I love the meaty gain tones for a great price. Sounds so good, but honestly you could plug into a loaf of bread and sound awesome.
Another great vid demoing interesting gear and showcasing your fantastic playing. Like Orange amps, I've never played thru a Laney amp either but always wanted to. When I think of Laney, I immediately think of Tony Iommi (one of my early influences). Someone else said this already that this Laney sounds like it has EL34's rather than 6L6's because of its nice midrange. That tight/loose control is really cool. Lots of other knobs and controls to fiddle with though that are probably unnecessary. I'd always prefer a simple, vintage-style, single channel Marshall. Cheers!
Ironheart Studio basically has a built in Two Notes Captor. You can record DI (no amp, no speaker) AND record amped DI (with or without speaker sim). Has a re-ramp input. Built in load box .. can be played without a speaker. Has EL84 tubes 1W or 15W. I run a DOD graphic equalizer to bump the lows to mimic the 6L6 thump. Can drive a 4x4 .. and your master would be on 8 or 9 with a live drummer .. so your tubes would be really cooking !!!!
Great man , there is one amp u didn’t tried yet and i bet he will change your life 😄 Splawn quickrod: its a mix of plexi and jcm800 with more gain and low end 😁🙌🏻🙌🏻 waiting you to do the video
Very nice tones from this one. Looking at this or the IRT Studio. The 60H is awesome but admittedly too big and powerful for my needs. Hoping the 15w Studio version can nail similar tones if there are little differences.
*Damn man! You make the best demos of the gear you feature. 🎶🎶🎵🎵 Loved the intro to this video. The gain stages sound great for someone wanting usable overdrive.*
The LANEY IronHeart IRT60H has a toroidal transformer which is smaller but better. Just because those transformers have less hum. I prefer my IronHeart IRT30 with EL34 power tubes. Unfortunately mine is a combo, it needed to be rebiased and there a many many screws to remove which is pretty nasty! I also own a Mesa Boogie .50 Caliber+ head and even with Mercury Magnetics transformers I can hear a little bit oh hum coming from the speakers.
It looks like the Ironheart is using a Different type of transformer on the right side, I believe its called a Toroidal transformer, probably being used as the the power transformer as I am seeing pictures of the back panel and the power cable is on that side in the rear. Still using a typical transformer on the output section, where as the 5150 of course uses a traditional transformer for both power and output sections. It sounds very unique to me.
Wow, surprised to see you check this Ironheart out! Great playing! I had an IRT60 last year, great amp but I really struggled getting tones I liked out of it. I swapped the JJ Ruby 6L6 tubes out for JJ Ruby EL34's which was a great learning experience. I really learned the difference between these kinds of tubes and preferred the EL34's with the IRT60 that I had. Very cool feature that Laney baked into the amp. I ended up getting a Marshall DSL100HR which I really preferred in every way over the IRT60.
When I hear you playing this beast and see how amazing it sounds... I wonder why there are other amps that cost 10x more than this one. Unexpensive and amazing. AWESOME!
Cool amp. I think it's really cool when amps, pedals, equipment etc have switch with extra options. In this case, the push pull of the equalizer is very interesting, especially for studio recordings, allowing you to layer guitars with small frequency variations. I'm curious to see you testing a big Revv Amps.
Wow sounds good! Killer riffs man! 💪I just got a Marshall sc20 stealth I’m going try it out today! 😎your vid sold me on it haha I wanted something with the JCM800 sound or close to it at least.
This was really nice detailed review for this head and I loved it. It's crushing and full of character both for rhyme and solo. I just wonder to know which cabinet you used to get this sound?
They are all great, I prefer the Laney over the Peavey in this case. Still Marshall stands out over there rest, it's that punch and edge that's unique...In my opinion. I shoot out between the JCM800 and the JCM900 DR would be great Euge.
Fantastic amp head Euge, I own the 120W version and it rocks ! By the way, what is your recording signal chain here ? Are you using a LoadBox and IRs on the final sound ? If yes, it would be kind of you to share the details and confirm if it's the same for all the amps in your compariso. Thanks man !
Thanks! Yeah the same on all videos and when I record in general: guitar - pedalboard - KHE amp switcher - amps - back to KHE - St. Rock or Suhr reactive load - Jens Bogren IR (usually my signature ’Valovirtuous’) - audio interface - iMac (Cubase DAW)
Hi Euge I have the chance to buy a marshall studio vintage or classic and I’m a real huge Gary moore thin Lizzy fan which do you recomend the 20w jcm800 or the 20w plexi can you please help.
That is a great song! It has licks that cover lots of generations.I love this as all your songs are so tightly woven together.Incredible! Are you working on a new solo album?Keep em coming.I can’t get enough! Also can you tell me what guage and brand strings you use for drop a guitar? Thanks man.🤘
Thanks! Working / writing songs / doing pre-production for the next Cyhra album atm which we’ll start to record early next year but after that I guess it’s time for the next solo album 😎. At least I have plenty of songs 😊🎼. DR 12-60. Sometimes 13-65 😎.
The Laney is almost perfect,EXCEPT that damn boost. I would describe it more like a fuzz, especially higher settings. It doesn’t tighten anything up, it makes the amps circuitry overload, but not in a pleasant way. Great idea, failed implementation. Now, if they just put a classic TS style boost, it’s a win.
Thanks for the video man, as always great content and presentation. Keep them coming! On another note, for some reason, my 20 Watt JCM800 suddenly lost clarity, and sounds mushy (maybe noisy?), even when gain isn’t too high. I think it also lost some mids and high end, though not particularly confident about this. I’ve only had the amp for about 6 months and I bought it brand new. Could this be due to power tubes going bad? I wasn’t sure if this is the case since I’ve only had the amp for ~6months. Not sure if you have any video about diagnosing amp issues or signs of tubes going bad, could also be a good video idea if not. Thanks much man. Keep on rocking 🤘🎸
Thanks! Sounds like a tube issue so I’d take that to a qualified amp tech. With tube amps you never know how long they’ll last. Sometimes they’re done faster and sometimes they could last a few years. I’ve blown up tubes sometimes in a few weeks but usually I need to change them few times in a year, depending how much I’ve used a particular amp etc.
Hey, Brother Happy Holidays to you! If you could buy a Marshall DSL 100 watt or the Laney 60 watt Ironheart, which one would you pick? Is one heavier than the other?
Likewise! That’s a tought one but I’ve used Marshalls pretty much always and one really can’t go wrong with one no matter the music style so a Marshall it is😎.
Love your channel. Been watching for some time. I have been waiting for a side by side comparison for quite a while so I was very happy to see this pop up. Have had this much underrated amp for about a year now but have been trying to dial it in at reasonable levels to respect the wife and neighbors. Being that I am a bedroom player, do you have any suggestions regarding the settings with the wattage control around 9 or 10 o'clock? It seems the tonal qualities are different at lower settings. Fantastic riffs as always!
Thanks! Glad to hear! Just use your ears to find the sweet spots. I don’t pay much attention to where the knobs are but just how it sounds 👌😎. I’d recommend getting a reactive load or cab attenuator so you could ”drive” the amp like it’s meant to be 😊.
Mukavia videoita nämä vahvari vertailu videot. Mul on tää vahvari enkä oo saanu sitä koskaa kuulostaa hyvältä kunnes hommasin 2notes torpedon ja testailin eri impulseilla.
Yeah at the end of the Mark V video Euge said something like (paraphrasing) "... and this amp is not going anywhere - it found its forever home here with me..."
If you really wanna make the amp sing, put a eq in front with a ts9, and use it with the amp OD and man! The amp comes alive. I have 2 Laney amps. The irt60h and the irt15w all tube studio rack head. And ya man the amp comes alive with a eq and ts9
I own a ironheart 60 and it's awesome to see how it compares to those well known sounds from a 5150 or 800. A thing i noticed though is that the gain starts to get flubby when its at about 1 o'clock and the boost is on more then 10 o'clock. Is this only on my amp or does yours do that as well?
It's normal on the 60watt and 120watt heads. It almost sounds like the preamp can't take the amount of gain and compresses really hard. Funny, on my IRT studio it is not this way.
@@luca4352 My 10 yr old IRT120H is the same. I keep the boost at around 10 to 11 o’clock, works great. The loop is really good and run a Empress ParaEQ (shaping and boost), Zuul and Delay there. The amp is biased cold from the factory so it can switch between 6L6 and EL34’s (bias switch on back of amp). I run Tube Store preferred 6L6’s and rebased the amp much hotter which adds more body to the sound. Really opens up even more. You have to add this bias mod to the 5150 to the same effect. Cut the gain a bit and it makes a decent pedal platform as well. SD-1 and Grind works great on rhythm channel too. More versatile than a stock 5150 IMHO.
@@rjw7032 The boost is more like a second gain control with a slightly different flavor. It's not really tightening anything up or boosting mids (it doesn't need a boost for tightness anyways). Most of the time I run an Boss SD1 infront. Gain on amp set to around 11 o clock, pre boost is almost always off. When I need ridiculous amounts of gain i set it to noon max. I almost only use the lead channel though
@@EugeValovirta230V yes, awesome answers from everybody 🤘 happy to know that my amp is working as intended. Also I tried the amp with using a Boss SD-1 instead of the built in boost. This allows me to krank the volume on the pedal and the gain of the amp as well without the amp getting flubby. Also it sounds a lot more like a 5150 this way to my ears.
Its a great amp with one major drawback in my opinion. That is the input buffers; they hate being slammed and refuse to saturate like a 5150. Instead if you drive them too hard the preamp clips into farty fuzz territory. Great vid Euge.
Mattias from Freak Kitchen uses those iron hearts. Thing sounds good. But why has Laney never really been a big hit? Iommi and Mattias are the only two I know of using Laney. Probably more use it though.
Hi I enjoyed this display and you sold me on this head! I looked up it's price and the difference between the 60 watt model and its big brother the 100Watt version is $300.00 what's the sound quality difference ? Thanks Jack!
Glad to hear! I haven’t tried the 100 w but in general the bigger the amp - the bigger the transformers, more tubes and just a bigger sound in general 😎💪. But it doesn’t mean necessary the better; for example I like the 50 watt 1987x Marshall Plexi a bit more than the 100 watt one.
Damn, it's a nice amp, but I don't know why, the 5150 always pull me in. Every video someone's comparing amps I tend to go with the 5150; fucking Van Halen knew his stuff!
Euge, you've become a Saturday morning favorite over a coffee at our studio. Cheers!
Glad to hear that! 😎 Thanks!
I like how you always compare amps to the 800. Nice video !
Yeah it’s my home base ’cos it’s all about the reference and that amp I know the best since I’ve played with 800s over 30 years 😎. Kinda sets the ballpark 👌.
Thanks!
Marshall JCM800 - the grand daddy of high gain.
Ah, what a treat! I've often wondered about the Ironheart series. Great to hear it in a consistent context here with the maestro. Thanks Eugene! While we're at it, someone please send him the Laney Iommi TI100. Would be so rad to hear him work that monster out!
Thanks man! Yes please 😎🤟.
That Laney amp sounds incredible. Wow!

I'm late here but this is the best demo of this Laney. Powerful as always.
I have the ironheart 120 full stack and L❤️ve it totally, I then bought the SLS 300w and put in in my recording setup, cool kit
Thanks for the demo and review, Euge! I researched this amp, watched your video and some others, and bought one. Love it!
Thanks man! Cool!
For metal, Laney all the way! Plus it’s versatility is a plus over the other amps.
Man this is a blast from the past. I haven't heard a Laney in decades! Great demo and yes, Laney did a nice job with this one for sure 👍

It has a bias switch on the back, that says el34 or 6L6. So I guess it can take either tubes.

I didn't think Laney would build such a great amp. it sounds really great and that for this price. I’m surprised 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Great shreading! 🤘🎸
Thanks!
I’d go with the 800 ’cos 2203 is my fav amp but obviously I can’t tell which one you prefer more.
@@EugeValovirta230V I was gonna choose the jcm 800 I just needed a pro musicians input many thanks Euge 👍
👌🤟

”Poor man’s whammy bar trick”. 😎
I think one of the best 8 string tones I've heard, solo and in a band, has to be Mattias IA Eklundh. He's been with Laney forever as far as I know.
Correct.
Sounds Good bro.
Thanks C!
😎👌
@@EugeValovirta230V Thanks for the help and clarification about how long tubes last! Will get it checked out.
I love my IRT60, but a subjective question: would you spend the extra money for a EVH5150 6L6? (I like indie, to high gain punk to melodic hardcore)
They’re both great amps and has a similar vibe, at least IMO, but one can never have too many tube amps so why not 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V true! But if you had to choose one, which one?
I’ve played with 5150 since 90s (among my 800s) and see no reason to change that 😎.
Hi Euge, any plans for Peavey Invective on the channel? It's 5150 with built in overdrive, gate and stuff.
Yes. As soon as I get my hands on one 🤟.
@@EugeValovirta230V I will have to give that a try. More guitar gear, my wife will be so happy! Thanks again.
😁👌
Mukavia videoita nämä vahvari vertailu videot. Mul on tää vahvari enkä oo saanu sitä koskaa kuulostaa hyvältä kunnes hommasin 2notes torpedon ja testailin eri impulseilla.
Kiitos! Joo kaapilla / kaiuttimilla on isompi rooli kokonaistonessa, mitä jengi ei aina hiffaa. Sama pätee impulsseihinkin 👌.
I see the Boogie back there on your amp rack now. Did you like it that much that you bought it? Great stuff, Euge!
Yeah at the end of the Mark V video Euge said something like (paraphrasing) "... and this amp is not going anywhere - it found its forever home here with me..."
@@bigbokiptd oh sweet thanks! I didn’t catch the end of that one for for some reason.
Yes. Thanks!
Wow thats a killer amp!....
Yeah!
If you really wanna make the amp sing, put a eq in front with a ts9, and use it with the amp OD and man! The amp comes alive. I have 2 Laney amps. The irt60h and the irt15w all tube studio rack head. And ya man the amp comes alive with a eq and ts9
💪🤟😎
with eq in the loop laney sounds like bigger boys????
What band/artist sound like your songs? I want to listen to music like this...
Here’s a few albums I’ve done so at least these😎: www.eugevalovirta.com/discography
Can’t remember since I borrowed the amp for a few days to do the video but I see that you probably got some answers already 😎👌.
Great stuff. I wish you had done a direct comparison to the JCM800 because I have a sense that it was even more similar than the 5150.
Thanks!
Its a great amp with one major drawback in my opinion. That is the input buffers; they hate being slammed and refuse to saturate like a 5150. Instead if you drive them too hard the preamp clips into farty fuzz territory. Great vid Euge.
Thanks Josh! 👌🙏
use 2 or 3 clean boost pedals in the effects loop and it will open the amp up and give plenty gain. high end pickups help too.
Mattias from Freak Kitchen uses those iron hearts. Thing sounds good. But why has Laney never really been a big hit? Iommi and Mattias are the only two I know of using Laney. Probably more use it though.
That’s a good question indeed. Not enough marketing? I don’t know 😎.
Opeth too, but yes they are rather rare.
good amp
Indeed 👌.
Well you actually don't need to say anything you already explained everything on the guitar.... indeed I am going to buy Laney amps
Okay man I'm going to buy the amp, but pay my Bail if I get the cops called on me🤔
Damn, it's a nice amp, but I don't know why, the 5150 always pull me in. Every video someone's comparing amps I tend to go with the 5150; fucking Van Halen knew his stuff!
He did indeed 💪.
Oh dude there's a toroidal tranny on right side. And it's massive.
Pepita is dragging himself
😁
That looks nothing like a 5150
You’re who?
