Princess Miyako from the band: LOVEBITES uses that amp. You can see it on-stage behind her, in this video. It's on top of the Orange 2x12 cab. ( The other guitar player, princess Midori, uses a Kemper ) ua-cam.com/video/bgAxpEpEcno/v-deo.html
Just when I'm looking to buy a new 6505, my man Euge puts out this cracking video! Cheers mate, keep up the great work. Definitely the best amp channel on UA-cam in my opinion.
Your videos are always really good and informative! Your a very positive person and it makes your videos really good to watch. Someone that seems to always find the "good" in the equipment you review really helps those of us that aren't near as experienced as you!
Great video, as usual, bro! It’s so hard to describe the “feel” of an amp! I’m an SD-1 fan, too! I’ve watched that James Brown video several times! Great interview!
The 5150 & 6505 sound looser and a little more open, but the 6505 plus sounds tighter and more compressed (or colder as you said) coming through my monitors. They all sound great in their own way. The Brown sound is a saggy, loose, almost uncompressed sound and that’s what I hear from the first two. The 6505 plus sounds like the foundation for the Invective to me. The Chainsaws and Rainbows song is pretty cool also. I like that 80’s hair rock meets Skynard vibe. I appreciate your hard work and all of the content of your channel. I found your “how to play” Cyhra videos and if possible, would like to see more of those along with your “in the style of “ videos. You’ve written some great riffs and I’m thankful to have found your channel.
Indeed 👌. Oh thanks man! Really glad to hear! I’m planning to do more how to play Cyhra - videos in the near future. I’ll probably do the whole ’No Halos In Hell’ - album from the start ’cos the already released videos on Cyhra’s YT channel are a bit ”dated” since I’m a lot better at making these YT videos nowadays 😎.
Block letter might have a little more "chew" in the bottom end (which I dig) but of course they all sound great. You're another dude who can make anything work!
Hi Euge cool vid, both amps sounds pretty simular. The Blockletter may have slightly more punch 👊 11:35 am in the morning here, enjoy your weekend,Turkey hunting season here, will be out tomorrow morning. Take care stay healthy and safe, same for your love ones.🤘👍
It was refreshing to hear someone finally be honest about the 5150/6505 thing. They are all a great amp, I love the thing they do as much as the Marshall thing..... so much so I can't decide which to use so I run both. I run the Peavey through a set of black widow speakers in a blackstar 412 and the marshall through a 6505 cabinet. The black widows don't let the cold in so much and the marshall through the V30's (well we have all heard it before at some point). Passive attenuators are a beautiful thing, I use a donner emo amp pedal on each amp so I can get the cranked tone and still not get fired from my band.
Right on Eugene.😁 Saturday morning here in Wilson, NC 🇺🇸. Just finished breakfast. Perfect dessert. 5150 65W combo 2X12. Best amp I ever owned. Sold it cause I thought I wanted something else😥 I know I'll never find another. Alas... I didn't know the deal with the block letter until years later. Anyway good morning. Great content as always. How is the preparation for the tour going?
Hi Euge! Great, really great amp review man! You sold me the 6505! I also got the Bogren ir pack! Which ones do you use? I will try to match your sound! Thanks!
Thanks man! Glad to hear! My go to IR is my signature ’Valovirtuous’ from Jens’ Lead & Clean pack. It works on everything and not just leads & cleans 😎👌.
Great comparison with the usual great playing. Always loved Peavey. Had a 6505 until about 2 months ago when I let it go. Decided to just stick to my Marshall's. Hope you had a good weekend Euge. Thanks again for the video, great content 🤘🤘
soooooo i lent my bought used 6505+ to a band i was doing vocals for back in 2008 or 9. the very first day we were unloading for rehearsal he dropped from about breast height (he was roughly 5'10ish) and it worked fine. since then i have dropped multiple time from about knee height, slammed it down on tables, dropped it on it's side while holding vertically, spilled beer and whiskey on it, walked around with it uncovered in the rain (rains nearly 8 months of the year here), and it's still going strong. i bought a used back up a couple years ago.... it's been collecting dust.
Well, i actually prefer the 6505+! :) It's tighter and i think it's because of the additional 12ax7 preamp tube - 6 in total - compared to the regular 5150/6505s 5 tubes.
Peavey made great metal tone available to kids and the masses. I could not afford a Marshall in 1993 but Peaveys Ultra made me forget Marshall for $500. I have a 6505 now the gain is there no pedals needed but a tubescreamer and eq in the loop make these sound Godly.
One of the best review about these beast amps. Thanks! At the end I know what are you talking about :D , I also had an 6505, then I bought an 5150 signature model, because of... you now, the 5150 logo is cooler :D. Currently I have an engl 2x12 Cabinet, but I'm considering to get some alternative solution, because it's a bit loud. I have thought that I should also invest in gears like yours, some cab simulators, interface, monitors. How is the sound through the monitors compared to amp -> cabinet sound?
Thanks! I’ve been listening everything through monitors many years and with good & flat monitors the sound is really good. In the studio when recording, mixing & mastering I currently have Yamaha HS8 monitors and live I use Sennheiser in-ears 👌.
Awesome vid, Euge. Hopefully people will realize that Made in USA is a overblown concept with these amps. Yes, components have changed slightly over the years, but it's the exact same design and they still sound good, as they always did. If you're rich, sure, buy a block letter and spend a fortune. I'll gladly play my chinese 6505 with a big smile.

to me the modded 5150 has more balls, feels like slightly less gain in the highs compared to the 6505... which feel a little more "brittle" and slightly thinner. would think one could fix that with some light different eq settings.... thanks man! that helped
Thanks! Sounds good 👌. I actually did it on some rhythm tracks on some of my forthcoming solo album’s songs but in the mix ended up using just the Bad Boy 😎💪.
Great vid! The 5150 is muddy and fuzzier but brighter, it breathes , it's a rock n'roll amp (even modded) but was the starting point to the "new" metal sound! The 3 are great amps but this 5150 logo rules! I have the 212 combo version which is a mix between 5150 and 5150 II... Best combo for me with a better clean channel!
Great video I still love the block letter 5150 but it still doesn’t compare to the JCM800 2203 that’s the sound of Metal to me I’m also a fan of the Laney gh100L very underrated metal amp.
I did? No idea. Probably it sounded good on that day. Or then I just wasn’t paying attention 😁. In general I use both; just whatever feels best on any given day.

I prefer the +. Just bought one from a guy who had both for sale…I tried them both and 100% liked the + better. It’s just tighter and more aggressive, whereas the regular 6505 is great, but a bit more flubby and squishier feeling.
I haven’t compared them side to side and haven’t played with Sig:X for a while ’cos I sold both of my Sigs about a year ago. But if I remember correct the lead channel on Sig:X have a pretty similar feel than the 6505+.
It does indeed, especially for metal👌. Mesa 4x12 w/ V30s was used to create my sig IR I used on the video. You know the usual setup that works on pretty much everything and what I’ve used on many albums during my career; Cyhra, Shining etc...😉

Hi Euge, do you know if is a good idea to use a 6505+ head with a 4x12 cabinet with four Celestion G12M-25 Greenback speakers? Since the amp is 120 watts and the speakers together are 100 watts, do you know if that would be a problem? Thank you very much
The amp puts out 120watt only when the master is fully open. Master at noon the amp is insanely loud and then it puts out about 60 watts. Around 3 probably something like 20-30 watts so no problem.
Damn i stopped playing back in 2008 but i still have my 6505+ i got back when they first got released :) so happy i kept it! no more USA made! damn what a shame!!
@@warren8464 Indeed! also remember the 3120 was previously called the Triple X and had different cosmetics, same amp otherwise. Killer amps, the 5150/6505 , Triple X, as well as the JSX (later confusingly named the Triple X II), are all some of my favorite amps. I recently read that the man behind all of these amps, James Brown, has been hired by EVH gear, not sure if it's true or not but if so, something wicked this way comes!
@@EugeValovirta230V Thanks! Very helpful. One last question if you don’t mind. I saw in another video you made that the mini JCM800 sounds best with MV above noon, which as you pointed out in the video is too loud, and would need an attenuator for bedroom levels. How much loss in tone if mini 800 is played at low MV like on 1 (without attenuator)? Basically, I don’t want to drop money on an affordable attenuator but ending up with worse tone than just using low MV. Thanks for the great work you’re doing. Keep it up!
Euge, I saw in another video of your 5150 that you contacted the person who has modded it. I just wanted to see if it is possible for you or him to share with me the choke specifications, I've a 6505+ and looking at this video I've realized THAT is what I want to mod in my amp. I'm from Argentina, I've a technician that can do it but he asked me what values of choke did I wanted and I've no idea. Hope you read this! Thanks for your videos I'm a fan of your channel!
I don’t know who did the choke mod since it was there when I bought the amp back in the day. I only had the bias mod done by Eric Studer / MusiX. Here’s the video about it: ua-cam.com/video/M7KD_pAdo2A/v-deo.html There’s pics about the choke so maybe your tech could figure it out since I’m not an expert on those 😊. Thanks man! Glad to hear that!
I had a 5150 II around 2000 and really regretted not getting the original…it just didn’t do what the original did as well and to lose that for crappy clean channel that still wasn’t useful. The OG is still the best sounding. The differences aren’t huge but they’re enough to not be right for me.
It’s somewhat ironic that the bias mod is kind of the go-to mod for these amps. My impression from the James Brown interview is they 100% purposely meant for it to have that cross over/cold bias super tight and responsive sound. Which sound is better is totally up to the player, just found that kind of funny from a design perspective.
Hey Euge, how did you record this video, did you record the direct signal and then re-amped it with each individual amp. Can you share your recording setup for re-amping?
I used the KHE amp switcher like I explained on the video. No re-amping or any other ”gimmicks” 😊. Here’s the video I did about the KHE: ua-cam.com/video/-_WpuZW22D4/v-deo.html
just picked up a 6505 and jcm2000 dsl both for 400, people sell these for peanuts but will pay 1k + for a 5150 blockletter, is funny, but also good for my wallet :)
Hi Euge,if you get a chance check out Everyonelovesguitar on You Tube. Craig did a interview with Jeff Carlisi, Jeff is such a humble guy and wrote most of the hits while he was in 38 Special. He also grew up with the band members of Lynard Skynard, its a pretty long interview so it may take a few sittings,I loved ever minute of it,check it out you won't be disappointed.

@@EugeValovirta230V Thanks man! :)
5150 cuts great. If you want to be heard that's the amp you plug into.
Indeed. And if you really want to be heard then it’s JCM800 2203 😎💪.
Damn i stopped playing back in 2008 but i still have my 6505+ i got back when they first got released :) so happy i kept it! no more USA made! damn what a shame!!
And Pepita danciiiiiiiinnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggggggg!!!
😁😁😁
The 3120 is often forgotten, however it's a killer axe.
A guitar?
@@EugeValovirta230V the amp, 120w head. It'a 3 channel 5150 spirit ultimate metal stuff. And you can choose between 6L6 or EL34 power tubes.
@@captainflamson ok, thanks. I should have doubted to the XXX relation (3 channels, Max Cavalera ad, more scooped sound) :)
Ah ok. At least here in Europe axe = guitar / instrument in general so that’s why I was confused 😁.
How do 6505+/5150 compare to JCM800? I’m looking for a new amp and I’m thinking either the peaveys or JCM800 Studio Classic 20Watt.
Here you go 😎: ua-cam.com/video/pcbwFKV_KfA/v-deo.html
@@EugeValovirta230V Thanks! Very helpful. One last question if you don’t mind. I saw in another video you made that the mini JCM800 sounds best with MV above noon, which as you pointed out in the video is too loud, and would need an attenuator for bedroom levels.
How much loss in tone if mini 800 is played at low MV like on 1 (without attenuator)? Basically, I don’t want to drop money on an affordable attenuator but ending up with worse tone than just using low MV.
Thanks for the great work you’re doing. Keep it up!
Never mind! Just saw a video of yours on Bugera PS1, which should answer my question. Need to do my homework next time 🙂.
😊👌
The block letter original sounds slightly clearer but I guess the others could be dialed that way.
Pretty much yeah.
Here’s the video about it: ua-cam.com/video/M7KD_pAdo2A/v-deo.html
There’s pics about the choke so maybe your tech could figure it out since I’m not an expert on those 😊.
Thanks man! Glad to hear that!
@@EugeValovirta230V You are awsome! Thanks a lot for that man!
🤘I have a 5152 that has been modded to be "more open". It is an insanely tight amp.
💪
Is there a reason you use the normal gain input with the 5150 and the Highgain Input with the 6505?
I used the high gain input on both amps👌.
good video bud. I'm on the hunt for a block letter because I don't like Chinese made stuff, even if it's identical
Thanks!
I had a 5150 II around 2000 and really regretted not getting the original…it just didn’t do what the original did as well and to lose that for crappy clean channel that still wasn’t useful. The OG is still the best sounding. The differences aren’t huge but they’re enough to not be right for me.
Damn. 💪
it's got different power tubes, that's what you're hearing
@@geezberry8889 it filters out low end going into the preamp. its like a boost you cant switch off
5150 & 6505 are king and 1 in the same. Nuff said!
😎💪
It’s somewhat ironic that the bias mod is kind of the go-to mod for these amps. My impression from the James Brown interview is they 100% purposely meant for it to have that cross over/cold bias super tight and responsive sound. Which sound is better is totally up to the player, just found that kind of funny from a design perspective.
It is indeed 😎. I like the amp both ways and had it done on the block letter just out of curiosity. Haven’t decided yet if I’m gonna ”keep” it.
@@EugeValovirta230V I think you should! You can always get another 5150 if you want it stock, right? Because more is more 😁
Exactly 😁👌.
Princess Miyako is rocking the 6505+ on stage here! ( On top of the Orange 2x12 cab ) ua-cam.com/video/bgAxpEpEcno/v-deo.html

Well i have a 2012 model 6505+…. So that gets my vote…. They all sound awesome…. Hard to beat a 5150/6505
😎👌
Unless you have a jcm800 or modded recto 😎
isnt musiX german since its located in Baden Württemberg?
The HQ / main warehouse & showroom is in Giebenach, Switzerland.
@@EugeValovirta230V i see
For me 6505 all the way. Without Overdrive :-P
Can’t argue with personal preferences 👌😎.
That sounds like a heavy version of momas fallen angel by poison
Ok 😎🤟
👌😎.
6505+ very nice
The same
Mumbled sun oh
6505 for me.
5150 💣 , why u dont switch amps from a switcher on the ground, u should take care of your back 🤘🏻🍻

Oh thanks for the tip! I love Skynyrd & 38 👌🎼.
Why am I even watching this? I will always have to use plugins. 😅
