      Good on these homeowners for NOT knuckling under to the demands for more money, standing up for what was in the contract, and for knowing when to fire the contractor.

    The Microwave insert is a game changer. I built one for my parent's decades ago. still used to this day. it gets the Microwave off the counter and opened up a lot of space. The only downfall is that there has to be room for the insert.

      because the issues were not his fault. he partnered with another company, approved of the design of the houses but the other company switched builders without telling him, likely to save money but they got crappy guys. and note didn't tell Mike about the change in builders. Mike made only 2 mistakes.. one was tsutign this other company and 2 not jumping in to fix thigns

    • @frankfuller975
      @frankfuller975 9 місяців тому +1

      #2 is the big one, it hits his reputation hard. A mistake was made, he should have come with his company, to fix it when it was found out. He even could have made episodes of family rescue out of it. Instead, he and his company are denying any wrongdoing. So much for "making it right' for the people who trusted his face being on it.

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul 9 місяців тому +5

      The issues were not his fault and the lawsuit if frivilous. The buyers were even told that in order to get a Holmes-approved build, they had to pay for upgrade package. Guess what! They all declined that package and then complained and blamed Mike when the developer that sold them a house didn't build it to Mike's standards. It's like buying a base trim level car and then complaining that it isn't a top of the line trim level with all the optional upgrades.

    • @frankfuller975
      @frankfuller975 9 місяців тому

      there's a difference between not having extras and not being built to the building code standards of the country. And how clear was that made to them? As I noted else-comment, the picture of Mike should have been far smaller on the ad, right next to the little box saying that the "Holmes Approved" inspection was extra, and how much it was. After all, Mike "make it right" Holmes wouldn't offer that package even, on a builder that isn't following the codes always, right? After lecturing about them and why to build above them.

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul 9 місяців тому

      @uller975 "there's a difference between not having extras and not being built to the building code standards of the country. And how clear was that made to them?"
      That's the fault of the contractor, not Mike Holmes. Nowhere did it say the houses were being built or inspected by Holmes even without paying for it. That was the entire point of the upgrade package. Anyone with an IQ above room temp understands that. There isn't a doubt in my mind that they were explained what the Mike Holmes package was and declined it, and were given a disclosure form to sign that stated that they were explained what the Mike Holmes package is and that they were declining it.
      "As I noted else-comment, the picture of Mike should have been far smaller on the ad, right next to the little box saying that the "Holmes Approved" inspection was extra, and how much it was."
      Only somebody with an 80 IQ looks at an ad the way you seem to think people look at ads and make assumptions without reading the words. You seem to think Mike Holmes was advertising that he was building the houses and for some reason was offering to build it to his standard if you pay him extra, which is against the entire ethos of his brand. His brand is building things above code. The developer offered buyers the option of paying to have the house build to Mike Holmes standard if you paid extra. You don't get to sue a truck manufacturer because you bought a cheap base level trim and assumed it would have all the luxurious options of a top trim level fully loaded truck. Its your responsibility as an adult to read the stuff you sign, and understand what you are buying. If you decline a Mike Holmes upgraded house, the consequences are on you. You read the disclosures, you signed the disclosures, you understood that you were only getting a Mike Holmes house if you paid for it. You don't get it for free and then get even more of it if you pay extra. It's a frivilous lawsuit designed to make their lawyers money even if they lose and they're hoping the negative PR coerces Mike Holmes into giving them some free stuff for their own stpidity.
      They got a substandard house from a developer. They should sue the people that built it and the inspector that signed off on it. Funny how these TV investigators didn't dig too far into who inspected and signed off on houses that didn't meet code. Can't show the government in a bad light, eh?

    HELLO I don't like gas fire places the town from where I live has already had three houses blow up in the last 20 years I think that if there's ever a fire I would want it to be from a wood burning fireplace and not a gas one but i guess if you really want a gas fireplace and something goes wrong I guess when it blows up you wouldn't feel a thing now isn't that nice

    • @walterpen371
      @walterpen371 9 місяців тому +1

      I totally agree, however big brother government doesn't want us to save money. Wood Burning inserts/ stoves will be exclusive to living far out in the country. Far too many regulations, such as in Montreal will take place here in Ont. I have a wood burning insert as the fireplace was done by the previous owner, in the late 70's.
      A mobile electric fireplace would be the alternative, as in case if the home insurance policy doesn't allow. You simply get rid of it.

    • @Mystress1980
      @Mystress1980 9 місяців тому +2

      Sounds more like whoever installs and services the gas units in your town doesn't know what they're doing. If installed and maintained properly, a gas insert is significantly safer than wood burning. I grew up with wood burning. No matter how good you are at it, some smoke always comes out when you're starting it. If your wood's a little wet, more smoke. Everything in the room the stove was in reeked of smoke, to the point where it wasn't salvageable. Now think about that. You're breathing that in. There's an awful lot of things we "used to do" and may look back with rose coloured glasses, thinking back in the day was better. Do you have any idea how many people die from smoke inhalation from house fires vs burns? Once in a while, like an outdoor bonfire isn't gonna do much if any damage, but the whole winter? You might as well pick up some cigarettes and develop a pack a day habit.

      @@RevkorThen his face should have been smaller in the advertising, next to a blurb advertising for the "Holmes Approved" package, for however much more.
      Having his face front and center stage, with the package in fine print for the ad, *is* misleading.

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul 9 місяців тому

      He didn't sponsor the houses you cl0wn. A development company promoted a Mike Holmes upgrade package. The buyers were never told they were going to get a Mike Holmes house even if they declined to pay for the Mike Holmes upgrade. The entire "sponsor" if you want to call it that, even if it's completely false, was a promotional upgrade package. Buy the package, you get a Mike Holmes house that meets his standards. But if you DECLINE that upgrade package, you get whatever the developer was building. Every buyer that is now complaining freely admitted that they declined the Mike Holmes upgrade package.

    • @hochhaul
      @hochhaul 9 місяців тому +5

      @uller975 They were specifically told during the process of buying a home that it was an upgrade package. It's plainly obvious even in the advertising. They no doubt even signed a disclosure that they were declining the Mike Holmes package and that their house would be built to a standard that isn't Mike Holmes standard. Buying houses is adult stuff. You read the stuff you sign when you're an adult. You ask questions if you don't understand the consequences of declining a Mike Holmes upgrade package. It was made quite clear that Mike's company would only be involved IF they paid for that package;. You don't get something for free in the real world. They didn't want to pay for it. They later regretted it and now they're trying to pretend they didn't understand the consequences of declining the package they openly admit to declining. Misleading? NOPE. But some ambulance chasing lawyer no doubt convinced them to sue Mike Holmes for something that isn't his fault.

      @@frankfuller975 from what i know he partner with the people behind this. approved the house design and maybe even the contractors. its been said during construction the other party switch builders without telling him. So I think people are way to harsh on him. is he perfect know. should he have come in and make it right. yes. but seems the government has already teared down those houses. Note with objections from some who had bought the house believing it could be fixed. Also note not one of these families got the extra package to ensure the home was good. something Mikes stresses in all these videos

      We already know. A bunch of low IQ people bought houses from a developer that offered them a Mike Holmes upgrade package and they declined it and now went on TV blaming Mike for crappy houses that some other company built. They should have bought the package they were offered. Really stupid on their part. How could those people be that unintelligent? It was plainly obvious in the advertising that it was an optional upgrade package and that they wouldn't get a Mike Holmes approved house unless they paid for it. I guess I should sue the manufacturer of my truck because I wanted my truck to have all the options and luxuries of a top of the line trim even though I chose a lower trim level and was told what options I wouldn't be getting I chose not to pay for the top trim level.
