  • Welcome back, everyone! Watch as I try to strike that ever-so-delicate balance between relaxation and education in this video about one of my favorite topics, maps. Join me as I show you six different types of maps, and softly compare and contrast the features of each. [And, if that doesn't sound like the best video you've ever seen, at least it's pretty long, so it should work well in battling even the most stubborn case of insomnia! ;-]
    This video contains the following triggers: soft speaking, tracing, pointing.
    Timestamps:
    0:04:18 - 1876 County Map
    0:18:00 - State Highway Map
    0:31:00 - Lake Map
    0:42:00 - Star Chart
    0:54:50 - Trail Map
    1:04:50 - Orienteering Map

      +SandSnowMXGirl Aw, thanks! My son got those for me at Christmas time. I went through two other sets of chimes on older videos, but they were too high-pitched and shrill. These are the keepers! Thanks for visiting!

    The hand kinda sticking to the map. Nice stick work too. Plus the visual of the map itself. Brilliance.

      +Mrr Trent Yep, it's really impressive. The way he speaks with such casual familiarity in his detail, as if all of those places are real, is the real key to the impact of that video. SO well done.

    Very interesting video and a great mix of education and relaxation. Personally Ive always found the complexity of orienteering maps awesome and it was practiced extensively as a sports class during my years in high school (northern Sweden). If you stumble upon any maps of the Lofoten Isles in northern Norway be sure to check them out. A great mix of mountains, fjords and civilization in very well detailed maps (apart from my collection of well used swedish hiking maps that is). Cheers

    • @GaslampASMR
      @GaslampASMR  6 років тому

      Thanks very much for this comment. When I first discovered orienteering, I was amazed at and envious of how BIG the sport is in other parts of the world such as yours (O-Ringen, anybody?). Your comment about the sport being taught at the high school level shows that the infrastructure is in place at the lowest levels not only to put awareness in place, but also some level of proficiency in place, for a large portion of the population. I looked at some pics of the Lofoten area, and it is amazing! It would be a real blessing to be able to navigate in a place like that.
      If you'd like to see me ramble some more about orienteering maps in particular, you might check my second map video, "More ASMR Maps". There's a section in there all about how orienteering maps are made. Best to you!

    • @SJRcrew
      @SJRcrew 6 років тому +1

      I can happily admit that Ive already checked them out as well as subscribed! Interesting stuff (especially the aeronavigational map over germany and its color indexing as well as the topographical solution of the craters and ranges of elevation on the moon). :)
      And you couldnt be more correct regarding the usefulness of orienteering in so many other navigational aspects in general life and nature. Regarding Lofoten, I can certify of the constant state of awe you're in when hiking there.
      Thanks for the response, content and mutual interests in the craftmanship that goes into the small things many take for granted. Keep up the outstanding content!
